Myra Lou McGehee
MCKENZIE: Services for Myra Lou McGehee, 79, will be
held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 27 at Brummitt Funeral
Home in McKenzie with Bro. Dennis Beal officiating. Burial
will be in the Hopewell Cemetery in Gleason.
Ms. McGehee, retired from Ivers and Ponds in Memphis, died
Sunday, June 24 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital
in Jackson of heart failure.
She was born June 12, 1922 in Gleason to the late Monia
Pool McGehee and William Henry McGehee.
Survivors include two sisters, Marie Snider of Gleason and
Neely Lemonds of Paris.
Visitation will begin after 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25
and conclude at 8:00 p.m. Visitation will also take place
from 8:00 a.m. until the service on Wednesday.
Thelma Via
NEWBERN: Services for Thelma Ophelia Via, 91, were at
3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 23 at Johnson Funeral Home.
Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Milan.
Mrs. Via, a homemaker, died Wednesday, June 20, in the
home of her daughter in Newbern of heart failure.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben David Via.
She is survived by two daughters and two sons, Betty
Crenshaw and David Via, both of Newbern, Martha Murray of
Dyersburg and John Via of Atwood; a sister and two
brothers, Lynn Walker of Paris, Paul Pitts of Louisville,
Kentucky and Gloice Pitts of Dyersburg.
Marjorie Wilson
BRUCETON: Services for Majorie Oxford Wilson, 79, were
at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 25 at Bruceton First United
Methodist Church. Burial followed in the Prospect Cemetery
in Hollow Rock.
Mrs. Wilson, a housewife, died of heart disease on
Saturday, June 23, at Life Care Center in Bruceton. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Wilson.
Survivors include a daughter, Rosemary Allen of
Huntingdon; a son, Clay Wilson of Birmingham, Alabama and
a brother, Harold Oxford of Tullahoma.
Bruceton Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Terri Scott
LAVINIA: Graveside services for Terri Lynn Scott, 40,
were at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 25 at Latham Chapel
Cemetery near Medina.
Mrs. Scott, a former Murray, Inc. employee, died Saturday,
June 23, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital of
injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
Survivors include a daughter, Lacy Rainey of Lavinia; her
parents, Lonnie Scott of Adelle and Haynes Scott of
Lavinia and a brother, Kelly Scott of Lavinia.
Bodkin Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Ruthie M. Sykes
HENRY: Graveside services for Ruthie Mae Sykes of
Henry were at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 21 at Carter's
Chapel Cemetery in McLemoresville. Ridgeway Funeral Home
was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Sykes, 83, was dead on arrival, Monday, June 18 at
Henry County Medical Center.
Born December 20, 1917 in Huntingdon, she was the daughter
of the late Monroe and Minnie Helms Lundy. She was married
to William Roy Sykes, who died June 9, 1976.
Mrs. Sykes was a homemaker and member of the Church of
Christ. She was a former employee of Brown Shoe Company in
McKenzie.
Survivors include a sister, Cora Galloway of McKenzie; two
grandsons and two granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Billy Gene Sykes;
a daughter, Patsy Sykes and a brother, Arthur Lundy.
Ivy Emma Coleman
HOLLOW ROCK: Mrs. Ivy Emma Coleman, 92, died Thursday,
June 21 at Life Care Center in Bruceton where she had
resided for the past four years. Funeral services were
conducted on Saturdy, June 23 at Barren Springs Cumberland
Presbyterian Church with Brothers Larry Pinson and Lee
Scott officiating. Interment followed in Barren Springs
Cemetery.
Mrs. Coleman was born to the late William E. and Leah
Phillips Crutchfield on August 4, 1908 in Carroll County.
She was a homemaker and a member of Barren Springs
Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Martin Coleman, who died in 1987; three
sisters, Essie Turner, Thelma Evans and Sybil Hamlin; four
brothers, Buford Crutchfield, J. P. Crutchfield, Lloyd
Crutchfield and Alfred Crutchfield; a grandson, Jamie
Conger and a stepson Joe Ted Coleman.
She is survived by one daughter, Agnes Conger of Hollow
Rock; one son Jack Coleman of Huntingdon;' one stepson,
Martin Melar Coleman of Nashville; four grandchildren;
four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and eight
step-great-grandchildren.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Opal G. McCarty
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Opal G. McCarty, 54, died Thursday,
June 21 at her home. Funeral services were conducted on
Saturday, June 23 at Twin Oaks Church of Christ with
Brothers Grant Caldwell and Steve Wilkerson officiating.
Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. McCarty was born March 15, 1947 in Carroll County.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Goodrum. She
was a self employed insurance agent, a member of Twin Oaks
Church of Christ and a charter member of the Carroll
County Human Society.
She is survived by her husband, Edwin McCarty; her mother,
Martha Rigsby Goodrum and one brother, Bobby Joe Goodrum
of Peoria, Illinois.

Ronald Earl Hampton
CLARKSBURG: Mr. Ronald Earl Hampton, 61, died
Thursday, June 21 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral
services were conducted on Saturday, June 23 at Clarksburg
Missionary Baptist Church with Brothers Philip Halters and
Jeff Bryant officiating. Interment followed in the
Clarksburg Cemetery.
Mr. Hampton was born September 25, 1939 to the late Ervin
and Fannie Reed Hampton in Westport. He was a retired
drill presser for Leroy Somer. He was preceded in death by
a brother, Richard Hampton.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Frances Hampton;
one son, Ronald Hampton of Clarksburg; one sister, Julia
Umstead of Huntingdon; one brother, Tyler Hampton of Yuma
and one grandson.

Irene Thorne
HUNTINGON: Mrs. Irene Thorne, 91, died Tuesday, June
19 at the Henry County Medical Center. Funeral services
were conducted on Thursday, June 21 in the Dilday Funeral
Home Chapel with Brother Philip Halter officiating.
Interment followed in the Carroll Memoril Gardens.
Mrs. Thorne was born September 26, 1909 to the late Eddie
and Lillie McCormick Woodard, in Huntingdon. She was a
homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Willie Thorne; one son,
Virgil Fann; a sister, Lucille Kelly and a brother,
Clarence Woodard.
She is survived by one son, William Fann of Huntingdon; a
sister, Gertrude Crossno of Greenville; seven
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Carl Walden Pendergrass
TREZEVANT: Services for Carl Walden Pendergrass, 72,
were held on Sunday, June 24 at 3:00 p.m. at the Brummitt
Funeral Home in Trezevant with Brother Philip Halter
officiating. Interment followed in New Liberty Cemetery in
Cedar Grove.
Mr. Pendergrass, a retired salesman, died Thursday, June
21 at Henry County Medical Center in Paris of cancer.
He was born May 14, 1929 in Carroll County to the late
Lella Gurley and John William Pendergrass. He was a Korean
Conflict United States Air Force veteran.
Survivors include two daughters, Doris Keen of Medina and
Delores Boyd of Trezevant; three sons, Danny Pendergrass
of Vancouver, Washington, Dennis Pendergrass of Dover,
Deleware and Dean Pendergrass of Milan; a sister, Virginia
Roberts of Atwood; 11 grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
Ruben Huffman
HENRY: Services for Ruben Huffman, 86, were held on
Monday, June 25 at Trinity Funeral Home with Bishop Walter
McBride officiating. Interment followed in Greenwood
Cemetery.
Mr. Huffman, a retired laborer for L & N Railroad, died on
Friday, June 22 at Methodist Health Care Center in
McKenzie.
He was born on March 19, 1915 in Henry to the late William
Huffman and Helen Gardner Huffman. He was also preceded in
death by a stepdaughter, three sisters and five brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Lennie Huffman; a
son, Willie Huffman of McKenzie; a stepson, Robert
Alexander of Paris; three stepdaughters, Elena Rowe of
Paris and Lina Gary and Annie (A. J.) Coates of Toledo,
Ohio; two brothers, Sherman Huffman and Lester Huffman,
both of Temple, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 15
great-grandchildren.
Atlas Lindsey, Jr.
PARIS: Atlas Archie Lindsey, Jr., 76, was dead on
arrival Thursday, June 21 at Henry County Medical Center.
Services were at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 23 at Ridgeway
Funeral Home with Parker French officiating. Burial
followed in Van Dyke Cemetery.
Born September 20, 1924, in Vale, he was the son of the
late Atlas Archie Lindsey, Sr. and Lottierene Carter
Lindsey. He was a member of East Wood Church of Christ; a
World War II navy veteran and served on the destroyer USS
Lee Fox.
He worked in law enforcement for the Davidson County
Sheriff's Patrol and in security at Vanderbilt University
in Nashville.
He leaves one daughter, SherryWilliams of Joelton; one
son, Jackie Lindsey of Boston; six sisters, Betty Conger
and Jane Donnelly, both of Paris, Jeanette Williams of
Watkinsville, Georgia, Myra Hurst of Manchester, Janice
Clapper of Springfield and Judy Simmons of Singer Island,
Florida; four brothers, David Carter Lindsey of Mansfield,
James Thomas Lindsey of Murfreesboro, Bobby Joe Lindsey of
Joelton and Roy Earl Lindsey of Gallatin and two
grandchildren.
Weldon Willis
HUNTINGDON: Weldon Willis, 77, died Tuesday, June 19
at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. Services were
at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 23 at Smyrna Missionary
Baptist Church in Huntingdon with the Rev. Carvene Jamison
officiating. Burial followed in Humble Cemetery near
Huntingdon.
Born in Carroll County on June 23, 1923, he was the son of
Pete Willis and Riddie Pearson, both deceased. He was
married in 1951 to the former Dorothy Jamison, who
survives.
He also leaves five sons, Robert Earl Willis of Paris,
David Willis, Darnell Willis, and Jonte Thomas Willis, all
of Huntingdon and Johnnie Lee Willis of Ripley; four
daughters, Vonnie Lou Bell, Stella Williams and Betty Sue
Jamison, all of Huntingdon and Kathy Pearson Graham of
Atlanta, GA; one sister, Daisy Weathers of Huntingdon; 17
grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven
step-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other
relatives.
