Mary Grace Martin
MCKENZIE: Services for Mary Grace Martin, 90, were
Friday, October 5 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in
McKenzie with Drs. John Adams and Dennis Trull
officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mrs. Martin, widow of Caywood Hopewell Martin, died
Tuesday, October 2 at Oak Manor Health Center in McKenzie.
She was born April 3, 1911 in McKenzie to the late Grace
Baker Everett and Clint Everett. She was a member of the
First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann Adams of McKenzie and
Kay Parker of Milan; one sisters, Fay Rosenfelder of
Humboldt; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Duane Tharp
TREZEVANT: Graveside services for Mr. Duane Tharp, 68,
were at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 14 at the Oakwood
Cemetery in Milan. Mr. Tharp, retired owner and operator
of Sardis Motors in Sardis, Mississippi, died Friday,
October 12 at the NHC Healthcare in Milan.
He was a member of Northside Baptist Church where he
served as a deacon, past master of the Milan Masonic Lodge
#191 and former owner of the 45 Auto Salvage in Milan.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Ann Tharp; three
daughters, Kathleen Holder of Paris, Colleen Dunn of
Memphis and Gloria Knott of Milan; four sons, Danny tharp
of Dresden, Dale Tharp of Salem, Illinois, Keith Fesmire
of Milan and Lee Fesmire of Marion, Arkansas; a sister
Doris Allmendinger of North Carolina; a brother, Billy
Mack tharp of Milan; eleven grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
Bodkin Funeral Home in Milan was in charge of the
arrangements.
Earlie Mae Strayhorn Pate
MCKENZIE: Funeral services for Earlie Mae Strayhorn
Pate, 76, were held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 14 at
the Mt. Enon Baptist Church in McKenzie with the Rev.
James Stewart officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Olivet
Cemetery in McKenzie.
Born on March 21, 1925 in Milan, she was the daughter of
the late Goldie and Nina Strayhorn. She married James
Odell Pate on November 3, 1946.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, James Odell
Pate; two sons, James Elwood Pate and Russell Earl Pate,
both of Nashville; a sister, Victoria Pullom of Jackson;
two stepsisters Juanita Johnson of McKenzie and Mattie D.
Walker of Florida; a brother Milton Strayhorn of McKenzie.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nina Kay Pate.
Trinity Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Bobby Joe Berryhill
MCKENZIE: Graveside services for Bobby Joe Berryhill,
71, were held at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, October 11 at Beech
Springs Cemetery in Gleason with the Rev. Gene Price
officiating. Mr. Berryhill died Monday, October 8 at Henry
County Medical Center in Paris.
Mr. Berryhill was born June 23, 1930 in Gleason to the
late Lora McGee Berryhill and Dewey Otis Berryhill.
Survivors include two sisters, Emma Oliver of Lansing,
Michigan and Mable Taylor of Gleason.
Brummitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Barbara Ann Crocker
MCKENZIE: Funeral services for Barbara Ann Crocker,
58, were at 2:00 p.m., October 11 at Enon Baptist Church
with Bro. Dennis Trull officiating. Burial was in Enon
Cemetery in McKenzie.
Ms. Crocker died Tuesday night, October 9 at the Methodist
Hospital.
She was born September 7, 1943 in McKenzie to the late
Lester Newbill Sydnor and Robert Clarence Sydnor. She was
a member of Enon Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Demetrius Van Crocker and
Bobby Bernard Swaffor of McKenzie and Zachary Todd Crocker
of Huntingdon; one brother, Gaylon Sydnor of McKenzie and
two grandchildren.
Gertrude Hazelle Wilson
MCLEMORESVILLE: Funeral services for Gertrude Hazelle
Wilson, 83, were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 15 at
the New Reedy Creek Baptist Church in McLemoresville.
Burial was in Cedar Memorial Cemetery in Cedar Rapids,
Iowa.
Ms. Wilson, a retired sales clerk, died Thursday, October
11 at the Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center of
heart failure.
She was born November 27, 1917 in Carroll County to the
late A. G. and Agnes Luter Greer. She graduated from Webb
high School in McKenzie and was a member of New Reedy
Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Besides her parents, she
was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Wilson and a
brother, James A. Greer.
Survivors include two sons, Ray E. Wilson of Cedar Rapids,
Iowa and Bobbie Joe Wilson of Florissant, Missouri; a
daughter, Melba J. Atkinson of Atlanta, Georgia; two
stepsisters, Mary Slacks and Etta Mac Williams; a
stepbrother, Lemola Williams; eight grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
Lynn Wilkins
BRUCETON: Services for Lynn Wilkins, 86, were at 1:00
p.m., Friday, October 12 at Bruceton Funeral Home Chapel
with Bro. Steve Whitworth officiating. Burial was in
Prospect Cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Mr. Wilkins, a pipe fitter for TVA, died Thursday, October
11 at Horizon Hospital in Dickson.
He was born October 17, 1914 in Paducah, Kentucky to the
late Santa and Olive Randle Wilkins. He was a member of
D.T. Andrews Episcopal Church in New Johnsonville; a
member of Bruceton Masonic Lodge #731 and Memphis Scottish
Rite. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Rhoda
Wilkins and a son, Larry Wilkins.
Survivors include a sister, Virginia Holmes of Dickson;
two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mary Ellen Woodard
BUENA VISTA: Funeral services for Mary Ellen Woodward,
77, were at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 10 at Bruceton
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Daniel officiating.
Burial was in Prospect Cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Ms. Woodard, a retired bookkeeper for the Bank of
Huntingdon, died Monday, October 8 at Baptist Memorial
Hospital in Huntingdon of heart disease.
She was born October 23, 1923 near Buena Vista to the late
John D. and Minnie Wyatt Woodard. She was a member of
Prospect Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by
a sister, Margaret Blount.
She is survived by several cousins.
Lester F. Pate
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Lester F. Pate, 90, died Sunday,
October 14 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital of
injuries he received in an automobile accident. Funeral
services were conducted on Tuesday, October 16 at the
Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Rufus Chandler
officiating. Interment followed in Hampton Cemetery.
Mr. Pate was born September 14, 1911 in Kentucky. He was a
retired janitor, a Baptist, a member of the Masons and
Eastern Star. He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis
Wayne Pate.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Pate and one son,
Raymond Leo Pate of Huntingdon.
Kimberly Dawn Hayes Autrey
CEDAR GROVE: Services for Mrs. Kimberly Dawn Hayes
Autrey, 34, were at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 11 at
Bodkin Funeral Home in Milan. Burial was in the Pratt
Cemetery near Milan.
Mrs. Autrey died Monday, October 8 at her residence.
She was a graduate of Milan High School and a member of
Trinity Christian Center near Gibson.
Survivors include her husband Joe Autrey; two sons, Nick
Allen and Derrick Allen, both of Milan; two stepsons, Mark
Autrey and James Autrey, both of Jackson; her parents,
Eddie and Cheryl Western Hayes of Bradford; a brother, Tim
Hayes of Milan; two sisters, Tammy Ayers of Trimble and
Jamie Blackburn of Phoenix, Arizona; two grandmothers,
Madge Beal of Gibson and Jewell Hayes of Milan and three
stepchildren.
Jewel W. McAdams
MEDART: Services for Jewel W. McAdams who died
Tuesday, October 9 at the Dilday Funeral Home in her
hometown of Huntingdon. Burial was in Chapel Hill
Methodist Church near Huntingdon. In lieu of flowers,
contributions to the Alzheimer's Program through the
Wakulla County Senior Center in Crawfordville, Florida.
Mrs. McAdams was born in Huntingdon on November 3, 1907.
She was the oldest of five children of Otha B. and Estelle
Conyers Wilcox. She attended Bethel College and became a
school teacher. For many years, she lived in Memphis.
After her husband, Johnnie D. McAdams, died, she returned
to Huntingdon to continue teaching and retired in 1973.
She was a long-term member of Chapel Hill Methodist Church
in Huntingdon. For the last twelve years she lived in
Florida, coming to Wakulla County from Orlando in 1995.
She is survived by a daugher, Pat Ashley of Panacea,
Florida; a brother, James Wilcox of Hollow Rock; a sister,
Nelle Presson of Trezevant; two grandchildren and several
nephews and nieces.
Maudie Thelma Smith
CEDAR GROVE: Mrs. Maudie Thelma Smith, 88, died
Thursday, October 11 at the Life Care Center in Bruceton.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, October 13 at
Pleasant Hill Methodist Church with Brother John Holcomb
officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was born December 10, 1912 to the late Robert
Andrew and Lula Virginia Gaskins McAlexander in Carroll
County. She was a homemaker and member of the Pleasant
Hill Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her
husband, William Romie Smith, who died in 1982; two
brothers, Thurman Andrew McAlexander and Howard M.
McAlexander.
She is survived by two daughters, Jennie Sue Simpson of
Parsons and Ruth Ann Scott of Bruceton; two sisters, Mary
Sowell and Murline Westover; one brother, Frank
McAlexander, all of Lavinia; eight grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Cleo P. Noles
BRUCETON: Mr. Cleo P. Noles, 84, died Saturday,
October 13 at Life Care Center in Bruceton. Funeral
services were conducted on Tuesday, October 16 in the
Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Hillman Walker
officiating. Interment followed in the McAuley Cemetery.
Mr. Noles, the son of the late William Arthur and Minnie
Lee Selph Noles, was born August 29, 1917 in Benton
County. He was a World War II army veteran and a member of
the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was a carpenter and
millwright. He was also preceded in death by his wife,
Lela Mae Noles, who died in 1994.
He is survived by two daughters, Jennie L. Mauldin of
Cantonment, Florida and Pamela J. Hamilton of Cumberland
City; one sister, Rachel Douglas of Camden and three
grandchildren.
Yolanda Pittman Campbell
TRENTON: Mrs. Yolanda Pittman Campbell, 30, formerly
of Huntingdon, died Saturday, October 13 at the Gibson
County Hospital. Funeral services were conducted on
Monday, October 15 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with
the Reverend Andy Williams officiating. Interment followed
in the Humbles Cemetery.
Mrs. Campbell was born August 11, 1971 in Mississippi. She
was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Campbell; one
daughter, Noel Williams and two sons, Bryan Jackson and
Kyle Jackson, all of Trenton; her mother, Bonnie
Brotherton, all of Huntingdon; her father, Roger Morrow of
Chicago, Illinois; two sisters, Crystal Orr of Huntingdon
and Lisa Taylor of Jackson; one brother, Jason Orr of
Huntingdon; two grandmothers, Louise Pittman of
Batesville, Mississippi and Deliah Halford of Trenton.
Edith Turner Martin
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Edith Turner Martin, 88, died
Thursday, October 11 at Huntingdon Health and
Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were conducted on
Saturday, October 13 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel
with Brother Dennis Abernathy officiating. Interment
followed in Bethlehem Cemetery.
Mrs. Martin was born April 14, 1913 to the late Walter
David and Ruth Pruitt Turner in Carroll County. She was
the retired owner of the Princess Garden Nursery in Fort
Lauderdale, Florida and a member of the First United
Methodist Church.
She is survived by two cousins.
Dorothy Sue Harris Sullivan
MCKENZIE: Mrs. Dorothy Sue Harris Sullivan, 54, died
Monday, October 8 at the Jackson-Madison County General
Hospital. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday,
October 11 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.
Wayne Burton officiating. Interment followed in Shiloh
Cemetery.
Mrs. Sullivan was born September 30, 1947 to the late O.
T. and Johnetta Abbott Harris in Carroll County. She was a
homemaker. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel
Ray Sullivan.
She is survived by her husband, Earl Sullivan; two
daughters, Barbara Edwards of Cedar Grove and Shannon
Clendennin of McKenzie; one son, Terry Sullivan of
McKenzie; one sister, Jo Watson of Huntingdon; three
brothers, Bobby Harris of McKenzie and Ricky Harris and
Jimmy Harris, both of Huntingdon; three grandchildren and
two step-grandchildren.
Sammy Robinson
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Sammy Robinson, 91, died Thursday,
October 11 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, October 13 in
the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Wayne Burton
officiating. Interment followed in Hopewell Cemetery near
Lavinia.
Mrs. Robinson was born December 26, 1909 to the late
Stonewall Jackson and Carrie Lee Roland Coleman in Carroll
County. She was a retired employee of Henry I. Siegel. She
was preceded in death by her husband, William Earl
Robinson, who died in July, 1986; a brother, Lewis
Coleman; two sisters, Sara Barker and Lorene Hudgins and a
grandson, Raymond Boyd.
She is survived by four daughters, Carolyn Fletcher, Betty
Biggart, Annie Bradfield, all of Huntingdon and Peggy
McIver of Camden; ten grandchildren; twenty-nine
great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.
