Grace Christian Academy Announces Staff for 2001-2002
School Year |
Grace Christian Academy in McKenzie announces the
staff for the school year to begin August 6. This is a
special year for the academy because it is the
beginning of their tenth year. The academy continues
to hold high a standard of academic excellence while
integrating the Bible into the academia. They teach
strong Christian values and morality that instill a
sense of respect and responsibility in each child for
family, school and church.
Members of the staff include: Brother Scotty Davis,
principal, will begin his second year at GCA. Along
with his administrative duties, he will teach Bible
and physical education. Bro. Davis graduated from the
University of Tennessee at Martin in 1992 and is
presently seeking his Masters of Administration at
Bethel College. Bro. Davis grew up in Carroll County
and is excited to be a part of offering parents an
opportunity to give their children a Christian
education. Bro. Davis is the Associate Pastor of Grace
Baptist Church. he surrendered to preach in 1999
during the Grace Baptist Church Pastor's Conference. A
year later they called him to be their associate
pastor. He resides in McKenzie with his wife of eight
years, Trisha, their daughter Emily and son, Jordan.
Emily is in the second grade and Jordan will be
entering kindergarten. Both children attend Grace
Christian Academy.
Mrs. Pam Hurt, kindergarten and first grade teacher,
will begin her third year at GCA. Mrs. Hurt began
working at GCA in 1999 and has been a valued asset
ever since. She began college when she was 35 years
old and graduated summa cum laude from the University
of Tennessee at Martin in 1995 with a bachelor's
degree in early childhood education. She taught one
year at Martin Primary School. She lives in Martin
with her husband of 20 years, Ted and son, Matthew.
Matthew is a sophomore at Martin Westview High School.
Mrs. Hurt's daughter, Tiffany, is a freshman at the
University of Tennessee at Martin. She is an active
member of Bible Union Missionary Baptist Church in
Martin. Mrs. Hurt has what some feel is the most
challenging job at the academy, teaching kindergarten
and first grade, but she loves the little ones and
does an excellent job with them. Each year, Mrs.
Hurt's classes score top marks on the national
standardized achievement tests.
Mrs. Lisa Whitworth, second and third grade teacher,
has been with the academy for nine years. She has held
many positions at Grace Christian Academy. She has
worked with the preschool as a teacher and then the
director. She has worked in the school facilitating
Bob Jones Linc classes and as the curriculum
coordinator for the last four years. She was the
pre-kindergarten teacher during the 2000-2001 school
year. Mrs. Whitworth has worked hard for the past five
years at Bethel College to earn her teaching
certificate and will begin this year on the teaching
staff. Mrs. Whitworth lives in Gleason with her
husband Jamie and daughters, Brittney and Leah Mebane.
Brittney is a sophomore at Gleason High School while
Leah is in the sixth grade at Grace Christian Academy.
Mrs. Whitworth is an active member of Grace Baptist
Church. She is looking forward to teaching the second
and third grades at Grace.
Mrs. Janet McNamara, fourth through sixth grade
teacher, will begin her second year with the staff.
Mrs. McNamara was a new addition to GCA last year and
proved to be a valuable asset to the school. She
graduated magna cum laude from Worcester State College
in Worcester, Maine in 1990 with a bachelor's degree
in early elementary education. She lives in Paris with
her husband of 26 years, John. Her son, Daniel,
recently graduated from Murray State University in
Kentucky. Her daughter, Holly Fetterman, was married
this past December and graduated from the University
of Tennessee at Martin in May of this year. Mrs.
McNamara is an active member of the Trinity United
Methodist Church in Paris. She has several years of
teaching experience in Christian and secular schools
and believes that this experience helps her meet the
challenges of the junior high grades.
