Gleason traveled to Huntingdon Monday, December 17 for
non-district games with the Fillies and Mustangs. In the
opening game, both the Lady Dawgs and Fillies played hard
and although neither scored particularly well, the score
remained close as Gleason held the lead. In the night's
second game, the Mustangs and Bulldogs also played a very
close game with the Stangs taking control in the final
half for the victory.
In the opening contest Lakeah Lockhart scored the first
point of the game, hitting one of two at the line, but
Gleason's Brittany Griffin quickly popped a three-pointer
to give the Lady Dawgs a lead they would not relinquish.
First period scoring found Danielle Beasley leading all
scorers with six for Gleason, followed by Griffin and Amy
Suddath, each with a three-pointer, and Kristi Todd with
two. Lockhart and Crystal Fuller scored four each for the
Fillies as Gleason led 14-8 after one. The second quarter,
the Fillies managed to narrow the margin by one point as
Fuller led all scorers with four for the Fillies, followed
by Brandi Melton, Waneca Melton and Kodia Tharpe with two
each. Todd hit a three-pointer for the Lady Dawgs while
Beasley, Haley Hudson and Katie Spain each scored two. At
intermission, Gleason led 23-18.
The second half, although the Fillies continued to
threaten, with approximately two minutes remaining and
trailing by five, they attempted to overcome a stall by
fouling the Lady Bulldogs. The Fillies hoped to be able to
regain possession and score enough to take the lead.
However, the Lady Bulldogs hit 12 of 18 in the final
period and won by a 15-point margin. The third quarter,
Hudson hit a three-pointer and led Gleason with seven
points, followed by Beasley, Bridgett Hill and Tara Newsom
with two each. W. Melton and Lockhart led the Fillies with
three each followed by Tharpe with two and Brooke
Pritchard with one. After three, Gleason led 36-27. As the
final quarter got underway both teams continued to play a
physical contest and fouls were called against both sides
with Huntingdon's Fuller fouling out at the 1:54 mark and
Gleason's Beasley fouling out at the 56.9 mark and Griffin
fouling out seconds later at the 46.3 mark. Still the Lady
Dawgs took care of business; hitting 67 percent at the
line. The final period, B. Melton led all scorers with
seven for the Fillies, followed by Lockhart, Fuller and
Tharpe with two each. Beasley led the Lady Bulldogs with
