McKenzie's Lady Rebels hosted the Gleason Lady Bulldogs
last Saturday night in non- district games at McKenzie
High School gymnasium. In the exciting game between the
two teams, the Lady Dawgs managed to gain a 10-point
victory. In the night's second game, the Rebels hit well
from the field for three quarters and connected on 12 of
15 shots at the line in the final quarter to gain a
sizeable victory. In the night's first game, the Lady
Bulldogs gained an eight-point victory in the first
quarter and maintained an edge throughout. However, in the
third quarter, a 10-3 shooting spree by the Lady Rebels
narrowed the margin to only four. The Lady Bulldogs
regained a larger lead by hitting seven of eight at the
line in the final period.
The first quarter, Haley Hudson hit a three-pointer and
led Gleason with five points, followed by Danielle Beasley
with four, Brittany Griffin with a three-pointer and
Bridgett Hill with two. Meagan Bowlin led McKenzie with
four while Lindsey Jones scored two. After one, Gleason
led 14-4. The second quarter, the Lady Dawgs continued to
outscore the Lady Rebels as Beasley led with five points,
followed by Griffin with a three-pointer, Amy Suddath with
two and Haley Hudson and Whitney Lampkins with one each.
Kristin Wiggins hit six at the line while Jones added
three for the Lady Rebels. At intermission, Gleason led
26-15.
The second half the Lady Rebels came out hitting well
from the field and managed to narrow the margin to only
four points by the end of three points. However the fourth
quarter, the Lady Dawgs scored 15 to McKenzie's nine to
regain a larger cushion for victory. The third quarter,
Becky Toombs led McKenzie with four points, while Bowlin,
Barnes, and Jones scored two each. Tara Newsom hit a
three-pointer for the Lady Dawgs. After three, Gleason led
29-25. The final period, Suddath and Hudson each scored
five to lead Gleason while Beasley scored three and Kristi
Todd scored two. Bowlin hit a three-pointer for the Lady
Rebels and scored seven points while Barnes added two.
Gleason won the game, 44-34. The Lady Rebels are now 0-2
for the season.

maintained throughout their game. The first quarter, Rory
Lacey hit a three-pointer and led McKenzie with seven
points, followed by Johnathon Adkisson with four, Bryan
Huffman with a three-pointer and David Duncan with two.
Dusty Frazier led Gleason with four, followed by Michael
McPeak and Adam Mathis with a three-pointer each and Ryan
Bennett with two at the line. After one, McKenzie led
16-12. The second quarter, Ryan Drewry led McKenzie with
four, followed by Huffman with a three-pointer and Lacey
with two. Mathis hit a three-pointer and led Gleason with
five while Frazier scored two. At intermission, McKenzie
led 25-19.
The second half, the Rebels continued to score well from
the field in the third quarter and then at the charity
stripe the final period. The third quarter, Brandon Trull
led the Rebels with six points, followed by Lacey with a
three-pointer and five, Duncan with two and Huffman with
one. Mathis hit a three-pointer and Frazier scored three
for Gleason. After three, McKenzie led 39-25. The final
period, Trull led McKenzie with seven, followed by Lacey
with five, John French with two and Robert Jones and
Duncan with one each. Frazier led Gleason with four,
followed by Lucas Carey with a three-pointer and Blaine
Owen, Mathis and Michael Bell with two each. McKenzie won
the game, 55-38. The Rebels are 2-0 for the season.

Kelli Rich (a former Huntingdon standout) poured in 20
points and Bethany Flowers added 13 points as the Bethel
College Lady Wildcats picked up a big road victory over
previously undefeated Blue Mountain College. The Lady Cats
won the game, 71-66, and improves to 4-4 for the season
while dropping the Toppers to 6-1 for the year. The Lady
Cats overcame a poor first half shooting effort and a
28-27 Blue Mountain lead at intermission. Bethel outscored
the Toppers 44-38 in the second half, which was aided by a
43 percent shooting effort during that period. The Lady
Cats hit eight of 24 from three-point range, led by Rich
who netted five of her nine attempts. Also contributing
to the Lady Wildcat victory were Kayla McSweeney with 10
points, followed by Jennifer Oxley and Becky Hanks with
eight each, Jaquilla Pigue and Wendi Davis with four each,
Bridget McClarin with two and Tracie Coltharp and Elisha
Wasniowski with one each. Bethel faced Martin Methodist
on Saturday night at Bethel Fieldhouse. |
