County Football Teams Among Top Ten in Pre-Season Performance Ratings
By Pat Cole

Carroll County's football teams fared well in Earl Nall's Performance Ratings for the 2001 Pre-Season. In Class AA, Huntingdon and McKenzie made the top ten, with the Mustangs rated third and the Rebels rated ninth. In Class A, the Hollow Rock-Bruceton Tigers were rated third while West Carroll's War Eagles were just out of the top ten at thirteenth.

In Class AA 49 teams were rated while in Class A there were 58 teams rated. Also found in Class AA were area teams Milan (first), Union City (second) and Martin Westview (sixth), all Region 7 teams that McKenzie and Huntingdon have faced over the past decade while the Mustangs will retain these teams on their 2001 schedule.

In Class A, both the Tigers and War Eagles have faced University School of Jackson (rated second) for the past few years. Remaining top ten teams in both classifications are from other areas of Tennessee, including Moore County, Christ Presbyterian (2000 champion and one of three Region 5 teams to make the top ten), DCA (Region 5) and Franklin Road Academy (Region 5).

As July begins, football coaches will be looking at their teams and the potential talent they possess for this season's run for a title. The players are already lifting weights as they prepare for those hot August days which precede the beginning of the 2001 season. This year, the jamboree (which includes all four of the Carroll County squads) will be played on Friday, August 17 while the first game of the season will be on August 24.

McKenzie and Huntingdon will be competing in Region 6 of Class AA, against Parsons Riverside (ranked twelfth), Camden (ranked 28th) and Chester County (ranked 40th).

Hollow Rock-Bruceton and West Carroll will be part of Region 8 in Class A, against South Fulton (ranked 23rd), Lake County (ranked 29th), Greenfield (ranked 41st), Halls (ranked 47th) and Gleason (ranked 49th).
