| WMA Quota Hunt Applications Being Distributed |
Applications for quota deer hunts on wildlife management areas have been printed and are being distributed, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency
(TWRA).
The applications will be mailed to license agents, TWRA regional offices, and sportsman license holders. The application will also be posted on TWRA's web page:
www.state.tn.us/twra.
All applicants are required to list their Social Security Number and TWRA I. D. number. The TWRA I. D. number is the nine-digit number printed on the hunting license. Those applicants who do not have a nine-digit number need to call 1-888-891-8972 to receive this number. Individuals who may legally hunt without a license (residents born before March 1, 1926, juveniles under 13, etc.) are not required to put the nine-digit TWRA I.D. number on their application.
Rules for applying are the same as last year for adults and youth. Youth ages 10-16 may apply for separate youth hunts on one application and in a party with adults on another application, the same as last year. Do not put youth hunts and adult hunt choices on the same application.
The young sportsman hunts included on the application this year include:
AEDC, Chuck Swan, Hiwassee Refuge, Tellico Lake (McGhee Carson Unit) and Yuchi Refuge at Smith Bend. These hunts are listed on the lower left corner of the application.
Wild turkey hunters should be aware that the fall turkey hunt on Chuck Swan is listed on this application.
Remember to read the application carefully, fill out all requested information, double check the application, and mail it as early as possible. Mailing early gives you the best chance to correct any mistakes before the application deadline.
Applications must be postmarked no later than midnight, July 18 or delivered in person to the Hunt Application Office of the TWRA in Nashville by 4:30 p.m. (CDT) July 18.
The Priority System remains in effect this year. Anyone who applied last year, but was unsuccessful in the drawing, has priority status. If you are on priority, be sure to apply alone on in a party where every member is on priority.
A common problem is adding someone who does not have priority status. If this happens, the party will be included in the regular drawing. Also, be sure to double check Social Security numbers. If the Social Security number does not match the one submitted the previous year, the applicant and all other party members will be dropped from priority.
Deer taken on many wildlife management areas do not count toward the statewide bag limit. Refer to the Tennessee Hunting and Trapping Guide for details.

| Boat Trailer Safety Tips |
With weekend boating activities in full swing and many Tennesseans planning to spend their vacations at the lake this year, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) offers these safety tips on traveling to and from the lake.
Before leaving home:
- Be sure the boat is properly secured to the trailer.
- Inspect all lines, tie downs, and the winch. Tighten as necessary and replace any that show signs of fraying or separation.
- Determine that all trailer lights are operating satisfactorily.
- Inspect wheel bearings.
- Test the braking system.
- Inspect the hitch and safety chains.
- Check tire pressure and lug nuts.
- Tilt and then secure the boat's motor to increase road clearance.
Remember these procedures when on the road:
- Drive carefully, allow for the extra length of the car and trailer when negotiating turns and when passing.
- Allow more time for shopping.
- Pull well off the road periodically and walk completely around the trailer. Examine the tires and wheel bearings for overheating, test the tie downs, and check any gear being carried in the
boat.
