Bethel Golf Scramble Still Has Openings For Teams |
The inaugural Bethel College Hall of Fame and
Wildcat Golf Team four-person scramble is just a few
weeks away. The scramble is July 20 at the Carroll
Lake Golf Club in McKenzie. The scramble includes a
pre-event luncheon that begins at 11:30 a.m. at the
golf club and the four-person team scramble that
begins at 1:00 p.m. with a shotgun start.
The entry fee for the scramble is $200 per team. The
deadline for entry is July 12. There will be several
prizes awarded for the top team and for the closest to
the pin on one or more of the par three holes. All net
proceeds go to the Bethel College Sports Hall of Fame
and to the Wildcat Golf Team.
The Bethel College Athletic Hall of Fame was
established in 1980 to honor the athletes, coaches,
administrators, and contributors who have given so
much to Bethel College athletics. Currently, there are
32 members in the Bethel College Athletic Hall of
Fame. The Wildcat Golf Team is a perennial NAIA golf
power in the Mid South. Under the direction of Dr.
Jerry Wilcoxson, the team has won countless
invitationals and tournaments, and made many
appearances in NAIA regional and national tournaments.
To receive an entry form, or to find out more
information about the scramble, please contact
Virginia Claire Edwards, Bethel College Alumni
Director, at 731-352-4045.

McKenzie High School Basketball at the Beach |
The McKenzie Lady Rebels just completed their second
annual trip to "Basketball on the Beach." Fifteen Lady
Rebels journeyed to Fort Walton Beach, Florida June
16-22 to compete against some of the top teams in the
country. Over 60 teams made up the two-week long, all
girls camp. Teams from across the Southeastern United
States made up the exclusive field. State Champions
from Florida, Georgia and Alabama were among the teams
in competition.
The Lady Rebels chose to play up on the large school
division, which consisted of schools whose enrollments
were from 1000-3500 students. The Lady Rebels played
.500 basketball, defeating three teams whose
enrollments were 2500 plus students. Their final game
was a win over Choctaw High School out of Fort Walton
Beach. Choctaw's enrollment of 3100 students
classified them as a 6-A team in the state of Florida.
The Lady Rebels also had two players selected for the
All-Camp team. Junior Becky Toombs and Senior Lendzi
Jones were selected to the elite All-Camp team. This
was Jones' second award at the camp in as many years.
These awards are especially meaningful, given the very
high level of talent at the camp. Coach Dan Ridley was
exceptionally pleased with the play of these two, but
also noted that several other Lady Rebels played key
roles in the team's success.
Coach Ridley and the Lady Rebels would like to extend
special appreciation to the McKenzie Rebounder's Club
and the supporters of the program. Without their
support, the highly successful trip would not have
been possible. Ridley noted that the team will take
two weeks off for the TSSAA's dead period before
finishing out their summer program with camps in Wayne
County and Martin Westview in July.
