Lake Permit Might Be Issued Soon |
 |
| |
The long-awaited U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 404
permit to allow the construction of a 977-acre watershed
lake in Carroll County may come this week. Kevin Young of
the engineering firm, J.R. Wauford of Jackson, said the
Corps of Engineers has indicated a "desire to issue a
permit...The Corps is now an advocate for the lake."
Two agencies - the Environmental Protection Agency and the
U.S. Fish and Wildlife - have until October 30 to contest
the issuance of a 404 permit. If either agency contests
the permit, a hearing will be held in Washington to
determine if the permit should be issued. If neither
agency objects, the permit will be issued within weeks by
the Memphis District of the U.S. Corps of Engineers.
The proposed recreational lake is planned for the Leach
Community along State Route 70 five miles south of
Huntingdon. In the year 2000, taxpayers approved a $10
increase in the county wheel tax to pay the local share of
the lake's construction costs. That rate increase will
become effective upon the issuance of the 404 permit by
the Corps. Similar to the watershed lake in Lexington, the
proposed lake will allow for skiing, boating, swimming,
and fishing. Residential development along the shores is
also expected. |

Profile Metal Forming Purchases Manufacturing Facility |
 |
| |
Profile Metal Forming (formerly Del-Met) has furthered its
commitment to McKenzie by purchasing their manufacturing
facility at 370 Republic Drive. The building was purchased
from the McKenzie Industrial Development Corporation. This
agreement between the IDC and Profile also includes a
three-year option to purchase the adjoining 8.6 acres of
land for expansion. The management of Profile applauds the
IDC for the pro-business environment that they encourage
for the McKenzie region, according to Norman French,
VP/Controller of Profile.
Gary Weirs, the general manager of the McKenzie facility,
and his team have successfully transformed the plant from
a wheel trim facility to a world-class metal stamping
facility. The McKenzie plant recently became a TS
16949-1999 certified facility and this certification will
soon be required of all automotive suppliers.
Profile currently employs 35 persons with an annual
payroll in excess of $1,500,000. While Profile has been
affected over the last few years by the downturn in the
economy, it has been awarded new business for 2003 and
forecasts employment to increase by 25 to 30 percent by
the end of 2003.
Profile Metal Forming is a privately owned company under
common ownership with three other operating divisions in
Tullahoma, Tennessee and Raymond and Newmarket New
Hampshire. |
