James Mattox
Services for James Mattox, 80, were Saturday, March 30 at
2:00 p.m. at Brummitt Funeral Home with the Reverend Ron
Harber officiating. Burial was in Hopewell Cemetery in
Medina.
Mr. Mattox, a retired farmer and merchant marine, died
Thursday, March 28 at Methodist Hospital in McKenzie.
He was born October 31, 1921 in Chester County to the late
Irene Mattox Hesseltine and Dave Mattox. He was a member
of the Woodmen of the World and a World War II coast guard
veteran.
Survivors include his wife Beula Mattox; two daughters,
Sandra Johnson of Lexington and Barbara Hayes of McKenzie;
three sons, Mike Mattox of McKenzie, Warren Welch of
Florida and Jimmy Mattox of California; one sister, Dora
Patrick of Arkansas; and four brothers, J. D. Mattox of
Memphis, Hiluard Mattox of Missouri, Franklin Mattox of
Florida, and David Mattox of Texas; nine grandchildren and
one great-grandchild.
Also preceding him in death were a sister, Ruth Mattox and
a brother, Claude Mattox.William R. Brooks
MEMPHIS: Services for William (Bill) R. Brooks, 78,
were at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 5 at Memphis Funeral Home
Poplar Chapel. Burial was in Memorial Park Southwoods
Cemetery.
Mr. Brooks, a retired teacher and coach at Bellevue Junior
High School from 1953-1985, died Wednesday, April 3 at
Primary Health Care.
He attended Bethel College and received his masters'
degree from Vanderbilt University.
He was a retired major with the Tennessee National Guard
and was a U. S. Army World War II veteran and a member of
the Colonial Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he was
an ordained elder.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Sunshine C.
Brooks; a daughter, Leslie Bobbitt of Memphis; a son, Cole
Brooks of Memphis; a sister, Juanita Finley of McKenzie; a
brother, Bobby Brooks of Nashville and seven
grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Bethel College or Colonial
Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Stella Mae Williams
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Stella Mae Williams, 80, died
Wednesday, April 3 at her home. Funeral services were
conducted on Saturday, April 6 at 2:30 p.m. in the Chase
Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bill Goodpasture
officiating. Interment followed in the Christian Chapel
Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams was born October 17, 1921 in Missouri to the
late Fred and Vera Prater Pritchard. She was a member of
the Huntingdon Church of Christ and a retired cook for the
Carroll County Hospital. Her husband, Fred Williams, who
died November 17, 1993 and one brother, James Pritchard,
preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Moore and Mildred
Stacy; one son, Dean Williams, all of Huntingdon; four
sisters, Patricia Blankenship of Cedar Grove, Grace Redden
of Milan, Wilma Newsome of Brownsville, and Gladys Hill of
Medon; two brothers, Gordon Pritchard of Jackson and
Charles Pritchard of Murfreesboro; five grandchildren and
four great-grandchildren.
David Bruce Robinson
HOLLOW ROCK: Mr. David Bruce Robinson, 77, died
Sunday, April 7 at the Jackson-Madison County General
Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday,
April 10 at 1:00 p.m. in the Huntingdon First Baptist
Church with Bro. Fred Ward and Bro. Jimmy Allison
officiating. Interment will follow in the Prospect
Cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Mr. Robinson was born January 22, 1925 in Carroll County
to the late Clarence and Ruby Russell Robinson. He was a
retired railroad worker of 42 years for L & N Railroad
Company and was a member of the Huntingdon First Baptist
Church. A brother, Wade Robinson, also preceded him in
death.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Ruth Robinson; one
daughter, Patricia Latham of Jackson; one son, Gary
Robinson of New Johnsonville; two grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
Chase Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Katherine Renee Gentry
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Katherine Renee Gentry, 23, died
Sunday, April 7 at the Jackson-Madison County General
Hospital Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, April
9 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro.
Michael Pickford officiating. Interment followed in the
Twin Oaks Cemetery.
Mrs. Gentry was born February 17, 1979 in Madison. She was
a member of the Chickasaw Drive Church of Christ and a
teacher for the Huntingdon Head Start. Her paternal
grandfather, R. H. Driver and maternal grandfather, Othel
Gateley, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Jason Gentry, whom she
married on July 10, 1999; her parents, George and Teresa
Gateley Driver of Madison; paternal grandmother, Dorothy
Driver of Lafayette; maternal grandmother, Audrey Gateley
of Huntingdon and one sister, Tracy Driver of Madison.
Helen Grey Lawrence
TRENTON: Services for Helen Grey Lawrence, 72, were at
11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 3 at Gallimore Funeral Home
in Gleason with Bro. Phillip Norris officiating. Burial
was in Hopewell Cemetery.
Mrs. Lawrence, formerly of Gleason, died Monday, April 1
at Gibson County General Hospital.
She was born April 10, 1929 in Gleason to the late Overton
and Valda Terrell Duke. She was a member of the Trenton
First United Pentecostal Church. She was the widow of
Thomas R. Lawrence.
There were no immediate survivors.
Paul Emile Leger
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Paul Emile Leger, 90, died Friday,
April 5 at the Huntingdon Health & Rehabilitation Center.
A memorial service was conducted on Monday, April 8 at the
Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Ed Fisher
officiating.
Mr. Leger was born December 23, 1911 in Montreal Quebec,
Canada to the late Napoleon and Florestine Cyr Leger. One
daughter, Elizabeth Leger, preceded him in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Florine Collins of
Ogden, Utah, Patricia Cunningham and Antoinette Stokes,
both of Huntingdon; one son, Ned Leger of Salt Lake City,
Utah; one sister, Des Niege Lafortune of Montreal Quebec;
12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one
great-grandchild.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Irene Phelps Taylor
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Irene Phelps Taylor, 78, died
Saturday, April 6 at her home. Funeral services were
conducted on Monday, April 8 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mixie
Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Joe Abbott
officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Taylor was born September 30, 1923 in Wildersville to
the late Joseph Bomar and Issa Earah Todd Phelps. She was
a member of the Mixie Missionary Baptist Church and was a
retired factory worker for Henry I. Siegel Company. Her
husband of 49 years, F. A. Taylor, who died in 1996, also
preceded her in death.
Survivors include eight children, Ruth Ann Kee of
McKenzie, Barbara Wilson of Mayfield, Kentucky, Linda Joy
Taylor of Huntingdon, Barry A. Taylor of Hollow Rock,
Kathy Newman Reynolds of McKenzie, Wanda McMackins of
Bruceton, Lynn Milam and Tony Taylor, both of Huntingdon;
two sisters, Vonell Bolen of Wildersville and Ruth Essary
of Jackson; nineteen grandchildren and seventeen
great-grandchildren.
Chase Funeral Home was in charge of the services.
Herman Cash, Jr.
ATWOOD: Funeral services for Herman Cash, Jr., 72,
were at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, April 7 in the Lawrence
Sorensen Funeral Home Chapel in Jackson and were
officiated by Rev. John Ross. Interment followed in
Antioch Cemetery in Madison County with Replogle-Lawrence
Funeral Home of Medina in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Cash died Friday, April 5 at his home in Atwood.
He was born in Gibson County, the son of the late Herman
Luther and Mary Ellen Goodrich Cash, Sr. Mr. Cash retired
in 1992 from Consolidated Aluminum Corporation but
continued to work for Murray Guard and was assigned to the
DeVilbiss Corporation in Jackson until illness forced him
to stop. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in
Jackson.
Survivors include his wife, Eulene Woodard Cash of Atwood;
two sons, Gerry Cash of Jackson and Ronnie Cash of
McLemoresville; a sister, Rita Coody of Threeway; a
brother, Bobby Cash of Milan; four grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
James Lester Pryor
MCKENZIE: Services for James Lester Pryor were at 2:00
p.m. Thursday, April 4 at Brummitt Funeral Home with Bro.
Bobby Mann officiating. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery in
McKenzie.
Mr. Pryor died April 2 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in
Huntingdon.
He was born February 23, 1923 in McKenzie to the late Lucy
Webb Pryor and Guy D. Pryor. He was a member of the
Concord Baptist Church and served in the U. S. Army Air
Corp during World War II.
A sister, Betty Barker and a brother, G. W. Pryor, also
preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Grace "Brownie" Pryor; two
sons, Phillip Pryor and Jerry Pryor, both of McKenzie;
four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and two
step-great-grandchildren.
Lester Winfield Flowers
YUMA: Services for Lester Winfield Flowers, 92, were
at 4:00 p.m. in the Pafford Funeral Home Chapel with
burial in Duke Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Flowers; a son, Charles
Flowers of Wildersville; four daughters, Dean Mullins,
Evelyn McPeake and Shirley Singleton, all of Lexington and
Brenda Throgmorton of Clarksburg; two sisters, Nola
Wallace and Mavine Hayes, both of Lexington; two brothers,
Howell Flowers of Flint, Michigan and Paul Flowers of
Lexington; ten grandchildren and eight
