Lillian Rutledge
MCKENZIE: Services for Lillian Rutledge, 89, were
Saturday, April 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Brummitt Funeral Home
with Rev. Bill Oakley and Bro. Jerry Gallimore
officiating. Graveside services were at 3:00 p.m. at
Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg.
Mrs. Rutledge, a retired school cafeteria worker at Jennie
Bell elementary School in Dyersburg, died Tuesday, April 9
at McKenzie.
She was born August 23, 1912 in McNairy County to the late
Cora Crumm Dempsey and W.T. Dempsey. She was a member of
Bethlehem Baptist Church in Henry.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Gaskins of McKenzie
and four grandchildren, Russ Miller of Alisoviejo,
California, Walter Miller of Charleston, South Carolina,
Bill Miller of Los Angeles, California and Ann Miller of
Conway, Arkansas.
Her husband, Alvie Rutledge and a daughter, Connie
Rutledge, also preceded her in death.
Paul Howard Fitzgerald
MCKENZIE: Paul Howard Fitzgerald, 57, died Saturday,
April 13 at Methodist Hospital in McKenzie. Services were
conducted on Monday, April 15, at 2:00 p.m. at Brummitt
Funeral Home with Dr. John Carlock officiating. Burial
followed at Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Fitzgerald, the son of the late Clyde and Virginia
Fitzgerald, was born July 16, 1944 in Benton County. He
was a retired owner of Fitzgerald Lumber Co. A niece,
Karen Hickman also preceded him in death.
Survivors include three sisters, Willie Mae Anderson of
McKenzie, Lois Coleman of Martin, and Carolyn Hickman of
Camden; one brother, Jimmie Joe Fitzgerald of McKenzie; a
special friend and caretaker, Faye Harris of McKenzie;
nieces and nephews Cyndi Kee, Larry Anderson, Kenneth
Coleman, Lisa Coleman, Mark Anderson and Joey Fitzgerald
and a wife, Barbara Mayo Fitzgerald of McKenzie.
Winlow Forrest
BRUCETON: Services for Winlow Forrest, 77, were held
at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, April 14 at Marlboro Church of
Christ with burial in the church cemetery. Mr. Forrest a
retired carman for CSX Railroad died Friday, April 12 at
Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was born September 24, 1924 in Vale to the late John B.
and Mable Alberta Owen Forrest. He was a member of
Marlboro Church of Christ and a World War II army veteran.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews. His wife,
Francis Owenby Forrest preceded him in death.
Bruceton Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Gertrude Prater
CEDAR GROVE: Services for Gertrude Prater, 91, were
held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 11 at Pafford Funeral
Home Chapel with burial in Spain Cemetery in Cedar Grove.
Mrs. Prater, a homemaker, died Tuesday, April 9 at
Huntingdon Rehabilitation.
Her husband, Lonzo Prater; one son, Everett Prater, and
one granddaughter preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Ruth Stanford Gateley
of Cedar Grove; two sons, James A. Prater of Cedar Grove
and Paul L. Prater of Nashville; nine grandchildren;
fifteen great-grandchildren and seven
great-great-grandchildren.
Annie Mae Buck
MCLEMORESVILLE: Graveside services for Annie Mae Buck,
86, were Sunday, April 14 at 2:00 p.m. at McLemoresville
Cemetery with Bro. Buddy Chandler officiating.
Mrs. Buck, a retired factory worker, died Wednesday, April
10 at Life Care Center in Bruceton.
She was born January 13, 1916 in McLemoresville to the
late Ada Chandler Traywick and Grover C. Traywick. She was
a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in
McLemoresville.
There are no immediate survivors.
Brummitt Funeral Home in Trezevant was in charge of the
arrangements.
Wilma Frances Rogers Wilson
BRUCETON: Services for Wilma Frances Rogers Wilson,
79, were at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, April 14 at Bruceton
Funeral Home Chapel with John Kelsay, Sr. officiating.
Burial was in Prospect Cemetery.
Mrs. Wilson, a retired waitress, died Friday, April 12 at
Overton Park Health Care Center in Memphis.
She was born August 28, 1922 in Charleston, Missouri to
the late John Harrison Rogers and Lula Faye Bridges
Rogers. She was a Methodist.
Survivors include two daughters, Janet Hall of Southaven,
Mississippi and Ruby Brown of Camden; a sister, Sue Pardue
of Hollow Rock; six grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.
Her husband, H.R. Wilson and a son, Larry Watts, preceded
her in death.
Velma Boothe Tucker
MCKENZIE: Graveside services for Velma Boothe Tucker,
83, were Sunday, April 14 in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in
Paducah, Kentucky with Rev. Harrell Nations officiating.
Mrs. Tucker, head cashier for Commonwealth Life Insurance
Company for 44 years, died Friday, April 12 at Methodist
Hospital in McKenzie.
She was born November 19, 1918 in Gleason to the late
Bryan and Laura Bandy Boothe. She was the widow of Richard
Tucker.
She leaves a brother, Willis "Bill" Boothe of McKenzie.
Gallimore Funeral Home in Gleason was in charge of the
arrangements.
Alice Vowell Spicer
DRESDEN: Services for Alice Vowell Spicer, 93, were
held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 13 at Gallimore
Funeral Home with burial in Olive Branch Cemetery. Mrs.
Spicer, a homemaker, died Wednesday, April 10 at Hillview
Nursing Home.
She was born September 27, 1908 in Martin to the late Fred
and Nancy Jane Doster Spicer. She was the widow of Marion
Vowell and Haskell Spicer.
Survivors include a daughter, Doris Jackson of Lincoln
Park, Michigan; a son, Darrell Vowell of Hickman,
Kentucky; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and
nine great-great-grandchildren.
Gallimore Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Ray Gilkey Bryant
TREZEVANT: Services for Mr. Ray Gilkey Bryant, 79,
were at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 12 at Brummitt Funeral
Home in Trezevant with Rev. Malcolm Norton officiating.
Burial was in Shiloh Arsenal Cemetery in Lavinia.
Mr. Bryant, retiree from Milan Arsenal Railroad, died
Wednesday, April 10 at McKenzie Methodist Hospital.
He was born September 10, 1922 in Carroll County to the
late Hattie Gilkey Bryant and Giles Bryant.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Courtney Bryant; a
daughter, Barbara Bryant Schmeichel of Boca Raton,
Florida; a son, Giles Bryant of Trezevant; a brother, Jim
Bryant of Trezevant and two grandchildren, Jeffrey Bryant
and Laura Bryant of Trezevant.
John Grey Pugh
MCKENZIE: Services for John Grey Pugh, 44, were at
4:00 p.m., Saturday, April 14 at Brummitt Funeral Home
with Bro. Harrell Nation officiating. Burial was in
Caledonia Cemetery.
Mr. Pugh, a lumber inspector, died Thursday night, April
11 at Methodist Hospital in McKenzie.
He was born October 25, 1957 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He
attended McKenzie High School where he was a member of the
McKenzie Rebel Band.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Pugh; his mother,
Louise Moore of Camden; his father, Curtis Pugh, Sr. of
McKenzie; two daughters, Brianna and Lacey Pugh, both of
McKenzie; and a brother Curtis Pugh, Jr. of McKenzie.
Rosemary W. Reynolds
MILAN: Services for Rosemary W. Reynolds, 53, were
held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, April 14 at Oakwood Baptist
Church with burial in Oakwood Cemetery on South First
Street in Milan.
Mrs. Reynolds died Wednesday, April 10 at Jackson-Madison
County General Hospital.
Mrs. Reynolds was a special education teacher with
Huntingdon Special School District. She was a member of
the Oakwood Baptist Church.
She was born July 11, 1948 in McKenzie.
Survivors include her husband, Bro. Jim Reynolds; three
daughters, Elizabeth Anne Reynolds, Sarah Katherine
Reynolds, and Meredith Nicole Reynolds, all of Milan; her
parents, Robert W. and Mary Katherine Webb of McKenzie and
a brother, Jeff Webb of Spring Hill, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be
directed to the Arkansas Cancer Research Center for
Multiple Myeloma, Gideon's International or Oakwood
Baptist Church.

Clifford Maurice "Red" Grooms
BRUCETON: Mr. Clifford Maurice "Red" Brooms, 60, died
Sunday April 14 at his home. Funeral services were
conducted on Monday, April 15 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chase
Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Roger Ellis and Bro. Lloyd
Ray Rich officiating. Interment followed in the New
Prospect Cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Mr. Grooms was born December 7, 1941 in Carroll County. He
was a well driller for 45 years for Melton Well Drilling
Company and was an avid gardener. His father, Clifford Z.
Grooms, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Nancy Hutchens
Grooms; two sons, Marty Grooms of Hollow Rock and Richard
Grooms of Bruceton; two stepdaughters, Mary Mitchell of
Buena Vista and Sherry Tanaka of McKenzie; four stepsons,
Robert Riggs of Dyer, David Riggs of Hollow Rock, and
Hershell Riggs and Billy Riggs, both of Bruceton; two
granddaughters; fourteen step-grandchildren and seven
step-great-grandchildren.
Mayne Mildred Mullins
LEXINGTON: Mrs. Mayne Mildred Mullins, 76, died
Tuesday, April 9 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in
Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday,
April 11 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel. With Rev. Hoyt
Wilson and Rev. Ken Coleman officiating. Interment
followed in the Lexington Cemetery.
Mrs. Mullins was born February 16, 1926 in Carroll County
to the late Joe F. Bishop and Alice Renfroe Bishop of
Huntingdon, who survives. Two brothers, Clyde Bishop and
Howley Bishop and a sister, Nellie Jewel Bishop also
preceded her in death.
Additional survivors include her husband of 51 years, J.C.
"Jack" Mullins; a daughter, Rhonda Gail Gagnon of Jackson;
two sisters, Annie Ruth Volner of Huntingdon and Gracie
Stanford of Cedar Grove and two grandchildren.
Mary Keziah Williams
JONESBORO, ARKANSAS: Mrs. Mary Keziah Williams, 98,
formerly of Carroll County, died Thursday, April 11 at the
home of her daughter in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Funeral
services were conducted on Saturday, April 13 in the
Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Johnny Boyd and
Brother David Leslie officiating. Interment followed at
Jamison Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams was born November 27, 1903 in Carroll County
to the late C.G. and Mary Elizabeth Sanders Blount. She
was a member of the Westport Baptist Church and a
homemaker. Her husband, Clarence Williams and a daughter,
Mary Jean Pinkley also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Sarah Etta Johnson of
Jonesboro, Arkansas and Helen Pafford Thweatt of
Cleveland, Mississippi; three grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Opal L. Thompson
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Opal L. Thompson, 94, died Monday,
April 8 at the Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation
Center. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, April
11 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bill
Goodpasture and Brother Martin Klamm officiating.
Interment followed at McAuley Cemetery.
Ms. Thompson was born July 11, 1907 in Paris to the late
Lee and Lula Parish Taylor. She was a homemaker and a
member of the Church of Christ. Her husband, Ernest F.
Thompson, who died in August 1983 and an infant daughter,
Mary Louise Thompson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Robert L. Thompson and
Raymond E. Thompson, both of Huntingdon and Ernest F.
Thompson, Jr. of Essex, Missouri; two daughters, Opal L.
Moore of Coal City, Illinois and Alice Fay Collier of
Plano, Texas and 18 grandchildren.
Lessie E. Duncan
HUNTINGDON: Ms. Lessie E. Duncan, 88, died Tuesday,
April 9 at the Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation
Center. Funeral services were conducted on Friday, April
12 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Lynn
Stapleton officiating. Interment followed at Hickory Flat
Cemetery.
Ms. Duncan was born March 28, 1914 to the late Mancy
Warren and Martha E. Lindsay Blankenship. She was a
retired employee for Thomas Bradford.
Survivors include one son, Harold Rowe of Huntingdon and
several nieces and nephews.
Lucretia Marie Merrick
HUNTINGDON: Ms. Jucretia Marie Merrick, 77, died
Sunday, April 14 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in
Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday,
April 16 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother
Lynn Stapleton officiating. Interment followed at New Hope
Cemetery near Yuma.
Mrs. Merrick was born April 21, 1924 in Carroll County to
the late Buford and Lillie Mae Segraves Horn. She was a
member of the New Hope Baptist Church and a retired
employee of Henry I. Siegel. Her husband, Leslie Merrick,
who died in 1984 and two brothers, J.T. Horn and Max L.
Horn also preceded her in death.
Survivors include four sisters, Dorothy Ellis of
Clarksburg, Maxine Cary and Lillie Kirby, both of
Huntingdon and Christine Jennings of Dallas, Georgia and
one brother, Tom Horn of Huntingdon.
Paul Burlison
MCKENZIE: Mr. Paul Burlison died Monday night, April
15 at Methodist Hospital in McKenzie. Services were
incomplete at press-time.
