Samuel Kenneth Carrell
1967-2002
MCKENZIE: Services for Samuel Kenneth (Ken) Carrell,
35, were at 4:00 p.m., Friday, August 16 at First
Baptist Church with Bro. Dennis Trull and Bro. Vance
Rushing officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Carrell died Wednesday, August 21 at Methodist
Hospital in McKenzie.
He was born June 20, 1967 in Paris. He was employed as a
greeter for Wal-Mart for approximately 10 years, working
both in McKenzie and Huntingdon. He was a member of the
First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his parents, Kenny and Jane Carrell;
two sisters, Van Carrell Sadler of Henderson and Lisa
Ellis of McKenzie; nieces and nephews, Cory and Brittany
Ellis of McKenzie and Courtney and Jacob Sadler, both of
Henderson.
Willard Barksdale
1925-2002
MCKENZIE: Services for Willard Barksdale, 77, were
at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 16 at Brummitt Funeral Home
with Bro. Dennis Trull and Bro. Clayton Owen
officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Barksdale, retired superintendent of McKenzie Parks,
Street, and Sanitation Department, died Tuesday, August
13 at McKenzie Healthcare Center.
Mr. Barksdale was born July 6, 1925 in McKenzie to the
late Pauline Sexton Barksdale and George Barksdale. He
was an army air force veteran of the World War II South
Pacific Theatre and a member of the American Legion Post
#37 and a member of the VFW Post 4939. He was also a
member of First Baptist Church, was a Bethel College
alumni; a Mason, and a former member of the Carroll ASCS
Board.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Miller Barksdale;
two daughters, Jennifer Waldrup and Penny Knott, both of
McKenzie; two sons, Billy Barksdale and Mark Barksdale,
both of McKenzie; two brothers, Warren Barksdale of
McKenzie and Kenneth Barksdale of Doe Valley, Kentucky;
six grandchildren, David Barksdale, Brad Barksdale,
Marty Morris, Shane Barksdale, Shay Barksdale and Shelby
Barksdale; two step-grandchildren, Kelli Jones and Kasi
Darby; one great-grandchild, Beau Barksdale and one
step-great-grandchild, Tess Darby.
A brother, Wendell Barksdale and a sister, Mary Frances
Bannister preceded him in death.
Martha Nell Bush
1919-2002
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Martha Nell Bush, 83, died Sunday,
August 18 at her home. Funeral services were conducted
on Tuesday, August 20 at 1:00 p.m. at the Eastview
Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Atwood officiating.
Interment followed in the Wheeler Cemetery near McEwen.
Mrs. Bush was born March 15, 1919 to the late Robert
Ernest and Pearl Elizabeth Trotter Harris. She was a
homemaker and a member of Eastview Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby Ray Bush; one
brother, Hershel Harris of Clarksville and one sister,
Sara H. Batson of Clarksville.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Dora Lorane Clement
1931-2002
MCKENZIE: Services for Dora Lorane Clement, 71, were
at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 20 at Brummitt Funeral
Home with Bro. Dennis Beal officiating. Burial was in
Shiloh Cemetery.
Mrs. Clement died Sunday, August 18 at Methodist
Hospital in McKenzie.
She was born September 22, 1931 in McKenzie to the late
Nora Robbins Stone and Ebbin Brinkley Stone. She was a
member of Calvary Tabernacle Church in McKenzie.
Survivors include her husband, Buford Clement; four
daughters, Betty Watson, Mary Lou Crocker, Barbara Reed,
all of McKenzie and Margie Bush, of Santee, California;
four sons, Billy Clement of McKenzie, James and Elvis
Clement, both of Gleason and Johnny Clement of
Huntingdon; a brother, J.D. Stone of Chicago, Illinois;
23 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Ollie P. Cozart
1902-2002
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Ollie P. Cozart, 100, died
Wednesday, August 14, at the Huntingdon Health and
Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were conducted
on Monday, August 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Parkers Chapel
Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Clark
officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Cozart was born May 24, 1902 in Clarksburg to the
late John and Martha Howard Parker. She was a member of
the Parkers Chapel Church and a homemaker. Her husband,
Emit Cozart, Sr., who died in February, 1980, one
daughter, Brooksie Nell Weathers, who died in February,
1994 and five sons, Parker Cozart who died on August 1,
1998, Hershel Cozart, who died in October, 1994, Ray
Cozart, who died in August, 1999, David Cozart, who died
in March 2000 and Emit Cozart, Jr., who died December
21, 2001 also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Catherine C. Wilson of
Huntingdon and Daisy Mae Johnson of Clarksburg; two
sons, Walter Cozart of Huntingdon and Leon Cozart of
Riverside, California; two sisters, Vesti Anderson of
Jackson and Lera Buckley of Lexington; several
grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
great-great-grandchildren and
great-great-great-grandchildren.
Chase Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Katherine Davidson Davis
1933-2002
MARTIN: Services for Katherine Davidson Davis, 68,
were at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 16 at Murphy Funeral
Home in Martin. Burial was in Locus Grove Cemetery in
Bradford.
Mrs. Davis, widow of William Horace Davis, Sr., died
Tuesday, August 13 at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, KY.
She was born November 30, 1933 to the late Charlie
Newton Davidson and Veiola Powell Davidson. She was a
retired employee of Martin Manufacturing Co. and
Damron's Barbecue.
Survivors include a son, William Horace "Bubba" Davis,
Jr. of McKenzie; a daughter, Shirley Ann Wright of
Ledbetter, KY; two brothers, William Davidson of
Highland, Illinois and Carl Davidson of Martin; two
sister, Mary Helen Scarbrough of Yorkville and Louise
Summers, also of Yorkville; six grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.
Kathy Jean Giles
1950-2002
CEDAR GROVE: Mrs. Kathy Jean Giles, 51, died
Wednesday, August 14 at the Camden General Hospital in
Camden. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday,
August 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel
with Bro. Wayne Holmes officiating. Interment followed
in Palmer Shelter Cemetery.
Mrs. Giles was born September 9, 1950 in Memphis to
Ludell Smith Walker and the late Gene Walker. After
graduating at Hume Fogg High School in 1969 in
Nashville, she worked at the Telephone Company and John
Hancock Insurance Company in Nashville. She moved to
Huntingdon in 1980 and was a clerk for her mother and
father at Walkers Groceries until 2001.
Her husband, John Giles, who died in 1996, also preceded
her in death.
Survivors include her mother, Ludell Walker of
Huntingdon; one son, John Jason Giles of Cedar Grove;
one daughter, LaDawn McLemore of Henderson; one sister,
Lisa Tucker and one granddaughter.
Martha Goodrum
1912-2002
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Martha Goodrum, 89, died Monday,
August 12 at Life Care Center in Bruceton. Funeral
services were conducted on Wednesday, August 14 at 9:00
a.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel. Interment
followed at New Liberty Cemetery.
Mrs. Goodrum was born October 29, 1912 in Carroll County
to the late Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Rigsby. She was a
homemaker. Her husband, Joe Goodrum and one daughter,
Opal McCarty, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Bobby Joe Goodrum of Peoria,
Illinois and one grandchild.
Kathleen Harder
1919-2002
MCKENZIE: Services for Kathleen Harder, 82, were at
2:00 p.m., Monday, August 19 at Brummitt Funeral Home
with burial in Shiloh Cemetery.
Mrs. Harder, a retired factory worker and healthcare
worker, died Thursday, August 15 at Methodist Hospital
in McKenzie.
She was born December 7, 1919 in Henry County to the
late Stella Rye Edwards and Thomas Edwards. She was a
member of the McKenzie Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Arlene Giaimo and a son,
Kenneth Harder, both of McKenzie; a sister, Frances
Fitzgerald of Paris, 11 grandchildren and 13
great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Arvin B. Harder, one son, Tommy Harder, and
one sister, Jessie Blythe preceded her in death.
Gay Nelle Holladay
1919-2002
BRUCETON: Services for Gay Nelle Holladay, 82, were
at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 18 at Bruceton Funeral Home
with Rev. Terry Bradshaw officiating. The eulogy was by
Charles W. Moore. Burial was in Prospect Cemetery.
Mrs. Holladay, a retired surgical nurse, died Friday,
August 16.
She was born November 22, 1919 in Hollow Rock to the
late Robert E. and Zora Hester Cobb Webb. Her husband,
George W. Holladay and a son, Johnny Holladay preceded
her in death.
Survivors include a son, Jim Holladay of Nashville; two
sisters, Betty Martcore of Chattanooga and Mildred LeRoy
of Jasper; a brother, Charles Webb of Crawford, Florida;
three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.
Barbara Lee Mann
1942-2002
HOLLOW ROCK: Services for Barbara Lee Mann, 59, will
at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 23 at Bethel Missionary
Baptist Church in McKenzie with Bros. Wayne Price and
Vance Rushing officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel
Hill Cemetery in Huntingdon. Mrs. Mann was pronounced
dead on Sunday, August 18 at Henry County Medical
Center.
She was born December 24, 1942 in McKenzie. Her
stepfather Fain Irby, a sister, Diane Irby and two
brothers, Larry Irby and Gary Irby preceded her in
death.
Survivors inclued her husband, Bobby Joe Mann; her
mother, Dorothy Faye Irby, her father, Robert Lee
Flowers of Missouri; two daughters, Sandra Kay Moore of
Charlotte, North Carolina and Melonie Ann Jones of
Pinehurst, North Carolina; a son, Joseph Lee Mann of
Clearwater, Florida and three grandchildren.
Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris is in charge of the
arrangements.
Leo D. Miller
1922-2002
HOLLADAY: Funeral services for Mr. Leo D. Miller,
80, were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 16 in the
Decatur County Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Donald
Baine officiating. Interment followed in Jeanette
Cemetery.
Mr. Miller, a retired employee of Caterpillar, retired
volunteer fireman, veteran, Mason, and VFW member,
passed away Wednesday, August 14 at Decatur County
General Hospital in Parsons after a long illness. Mr.
Miller served his country in World War II, serving in
the U.S. Army and receiving the Purple Heart.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Wood Miller; three
daughters, Shirley Miller Majors of Illinois, Carolyn
Goff of Henderson and Sylvia Heard of Kentucky; three
sons, Donald Miller of Illinois, Dr. Wood Deming of
Jackson and Ron Deming of McKenzie; one sister, Avie
Allen of Holladay; seventeen grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren.
A brother, Clarence Miller, preceded him in death.
Noviacine Moore
1913-2002
HENRY: Services for Willie Noviacine Moore were held
at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 16 at McEvoy Funeral Home
with Johnny Wall, pastor of New Bethel Baptist Church
officiating. Burial was in the Old Union Cemetery at
Como.
Mrs. Moore, 89, died Tuesday, August 13 at Henry County
Medical Center.
She was born in Henry County on June 20, 1913 to the
late Jimmy and Elizabeth Rebecca Summers McPeak. She was
married April 4, 1931 to J.U. Moore, who died July 28,
1978.
Mrs. Moore was a homemaker and a lifetime member of New
Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Eulene Hopper of Paris;
one sister, Doy Paschall of Paris; one brother, R.L.
McPeak of Colorado; two grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.
A brother, Odell McPeak, also preceded her in death,
dying in childhood.
Robert Patton, Jr.
1938-2002
MCKENZIE: Services for Robert Patton, Jr., 64, were
at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 15 at the Church of the
Living God on Porter Street in Paris with James Travis
officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Patton died on Monday, August 12 at his residence.
He was born April 21, 1938 in Hickman, Kentucky to the
late Robert Patton, Sr. and Nettie Patton.
He was married to the former Paulette Olive, who
survives. He was a member of the Sparks Street Church of
Christ in Paris.
Survivors also include four daughters, Gloria Ann and
Ethel Lucille Patton, both of Paris and Ashley Renee and
Sholanda Renee Olive, both of Louisville, Kentucky;
eleven sons, Charles Dewayne, Bobby Joe, Mickey Glenn,
Jerry T., Isreal and Steve Patton, all of Paris; Michael
D., Chris J., and Robert Isreal Patton, all of
Louisville, Kentucky and Paul Dewayne and Marcus Lee
Patton, both of McKenzie; one stepson, Robert L. Patton
III of Paris; one sister, Cora Lee Nolen of Flint,
Michigan; 23 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
One son, Charles David Patton and one sister, Mary
Elizabeth Nolen, preceded him in death.
Henry Glen Pewitt
1927-2002
MCKENZIE: Services for Henry Glen Pewitt, 74, will
be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 21 at Brummitt
Funeral Home in McKenzie with Bros. Bobby Hollingsworth,
Jerry Hollingsworth and Sammy Douglas officiating.
Burial will be at Camp Beauregard Cemetery in Water
Valley, Kentucky.
Mr. Pewitt, retired from Teco Barge Line, where he
served as first mate, died on Sunday, August 18 at
Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Mr. Pewitt was born November 30, 1927 in Water Valley,
Kentucky to the late Vivian Barnes Pewitt and Robert Lee
Pewitt. He was a member of the West Side Baptist Church
in Camden and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
A brother, William Pewitt preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Baker Pewitt of
McKenzie; two sons, Jackie Lynn Pewitt of McKenzie and
Dennis Glenn Pewitt of Cottage Grove, five grandchildren
and six great-grandchildren.
Effie Lou Phillips
1923-2002
HUNTINGDON: Services for Effie Lou Phillips were at
10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 20 at Halls Funeral Home
with burial in the Friendship Cemetery.
Mrs. Phillips, widow of J.N. Phillips died Saturday,
August 17 at Baptist Hospital in Huntingdon.
Survivors include two daughters, Gwen Collins and Kay
Sullivan, both of Huntingdon; a sister, Sue Limuska of
Jackson; two brothers, Eugene and Elmer Bivens, both of
Friendship, three grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.
Leon "Sunny" Williams
1927-2002
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Leon "Sunny" Williams, 75, died on
Wednesday, August 14 at the Huntingdon Health and
Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were conducted
on Friday, August 16 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chase Funeral
Home Chapel with Bro. Larry DePriest officiating.
Interment followed in the Palmer Shelter Cemetery.
Mr. Williams was born May 10, 1927 in Huffman, Arkansas
to the late Ernie and Bessie Mae Mathis Williams. He was
a World War II air force veteran and attended Tate's
Holiness Church. Two brothers, Ernest Williams and
Charlie Williams and two sisters, Annie Mae Phillips and
Helen Malin preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sisters, Kathy Mann of Huntingdon
and Paulette Williams of Buena Vista; three brothers,
Jimmy Williams of Huntingdon, and Will Dee Williams and
Bill Williams of Essex, Missouri.
