Mary S. Shook (Maxine Hopper McDaniel)
1933-2002
FLORENCE, ALABAMA: Mary S. Shook (Maxine Hopper
McDaniel), 69, died on Saturday, December 7 at ECM
Hospital after a sudden illness. She was a native of
Henry County and had lived in Forence for the past 47
years.
She was a member of the Florence First Free Will Baptist
Church.
The funeral services were on Tuesday, December 8 at 2:00
p.m. in the Greenview Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ralton
McCarley officiating. Burial in the Greenview Memorial
Park.
Her parents, James and Lula Mae Hollowell Hopper and one
brother Charlie Hopper preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Wallace R. Shook, Sr.;
daughters, Shirley Blevins and husband Floyd, Robbie
Gipson and husband, Reggie, Debbie Gandy and husband Tim
and Brenda Tidmore and husband Thomas; sons Wallace R.
Shook, Jr. and wife Cathy and Mark Shook and wife,
Traci, all of Florence; sisters, Ruby Lowe of McKenzie,
Madelline Mitchell of Henry, Myrtle Gilmore of Woodburn,
Kentucky and Mary Lou Seaton of McKenzie; 13
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and a number of
nieces and nephews.
Greenview Funeral Home of Florence was in charge of the
arrangements.
Eleanor Adkisson
1917-2002
TREZEVANT: Services for Eleanor Adkisson, 85, were
at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 15 at Mt. Ararat Baptist
Church in Trezevant. Burial was in the Mt. Ararat Church
Cemetery.
She died on Thursday, December 12 at Methodist
Healthcare in McKenzie.
She was born August 25, 1917 to the late Andrew and
Lilly Adkisson in Trezevant. She was a member of the Mt.
Ararat Baptist Church.
Survivors include four children, Betty Lou Howard of
Trezevant, Johnny Lee Adkisson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin
and Bobby and Jerry Adkisson, both of Nashville; two
sisters, Martha Taylor and Elizabeth Adkisson, both of
Trezevant; two brothers, Bobby Joe Adkisson of McKenzie
and Larry Joe Rutherford of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; five
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Lee Arnold
1926-2002
MCKENZIE: Lee Arnold, 76, died on Monday, December 9
at his residence in McKenzie. Funeral services were
conducted on Thursday, December 12 at 2:00 p.m. at
Brummitt Funeral Home. Burial was in the Mt. Olivet
Cemetery.
Mr. Arnold, the son of the late Ora Lee Arnold and Lula
Frances Hayes Arnold, was born July 31, 1926 in
Henderson County. A grandson, Scotty Carter and a
son-in-law Jerrell Dunning, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Verlene Scott
Arnold, three daughters, Judy Dunning of McKenzie, Nancy
(Terry) Sollis of Lexington and Peggy (Tim) Hart of
Henry; two sons, Jimmy (Annette) Arnold of Routin and
Billy Arnold of McKenzie; three sisters, Alta Scott and
Zula (Royce) Reynolds of McKenzie and Ruth Saydak of
Jackson; five grandchildren, Janet Scott, Brandy Carter,
Kim Moody, Carolyn Cunningham and Peggy Joe Brown Zdeb;
seven great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild.
J.C. Fuller
1919-2002
HUNTINGDON: Mr. J.C. Fuller, 83, died on Wednesday,
December 11 at his home. Funeral services were conducted
on Friday, December 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the Liberty All
Methodist Church with Bro. Joe Walker and Bro. Bob
Lowrance officiating. Interment followed in the church
cemetery.
Mr. Fuller was born August 28, 1919 in Carroll County to
the late John B. and Maggie Vinson Fuller. He was a
member of the Liberty All Methodist Church, a World War
II army veteran, and a retired carpenter with Barger
Construction Company and farmed most of his life. His
wife, Florence Beatrice Fuller; two brothers, Oveldon
Fuller and Clyde McCormick and one sister, Mary Kate
Crews, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Patty (Jerry) Nolen; one
son, Jerry (Linda) Fuller; four grandchildren, Sherry
Crossett, Stephanie Mathis, Christy Brandon, Steven
Nolen, and seven great-grandchildren, LaTasha Crossett,
Lauren Crossett, Cory Mathis, Chelsea Mathis, Kristen
Brandon, Brittany Baker, and Rachel Brandon, with all
residing in Huntingdon.
Pallbearers who served were Randy Crossett, Keith
Mathis, Steven Nolen, Danny Brandon, Terry Ross, Rusy
Ross, Marshall Newbill and Kenneth Oxford. Honorary
pallbearers who served were Roy Fuller and Cory Mathis.
Chase Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Richard Delmar Golden
1911-2002
MCKENZIE: Services for Richard Delmar Golden, 91,
were at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 14 at Brummitt
Funeral Home with Bro. Keith Pence and Bro. Dennis Beal
officiating. Burial was in the Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Golden, a retired carpenter and farmer, died
Wednesday, December 11 at Methodist Hospital in
McKenzie.
He was born January 17, 1911 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas to
the late Betty Whitsett Golden and Charlie Golden. He
was a member of the Community Grove Methodist Church in
McKenzie.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Mildred Wheat of
McKenzie; a brother, James D. Golden of Brentwood; a
sister, Jane Golden Essary of Louisville, Kentucky; two
grandchildren, Judy Tate of Berwyn, Illinois and Faye
Stacknik of Dallas, Georgia; three great-grandchildren,
Candy Saulsberry and Stacy Moran, both of Berwyn,
Illinois and Jessica Stacknik of Dallas, Georgia; and
two-great-great-grandchildren, Carson Moran and Alaina
Saulsberry, both of Berwyn, Illinois.
His wife, Annie Mae Looney Golden, preceded him in
death.
Dr. Addie Elizabeth Suggs Hilliard
1906-2002
HUNTINGDON: Dr. Addie Elizabeth Suggs Hilliard, 95,
died on Friday, December 13. Born in Henderson on
December 24, 1906 to Enoch Jordan and Sarah Elizabeth
Hearn Suggs, she was the youngest of seven children. She
held degrees from Freed-Hardeman College, Memphis State
University, George Peabody College and University of
Tennessee. During her 35-year teaching career she taught
at Saltillo, Deanburg, Greenfield, Huntingdon and
Western Kentucky University. A long-time member of the
Huntingdon First Baptist Church, Dr. Hilliard started
the church library and was a teacher of the Gleaners
Sunday School class. She served as president of both the
Women’s Club and the Booklover’s Club.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday,
December 16 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel. Interment
followed in Clark Cemetery.
Dr. Hilliard is survived by three children, Nancy H.
Fullerton of Nashville, Richard J. Hilliard of Miramar,
Florida and Joe H. Hilliard of Oakville, Ontario,
Canada; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren
and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was the widow of Joe H. Hilliard, Huntingdon seed
merchant.
Brenda Mai Hollingsworth
1914-2002
BRUCETON: Services for Brenda Mai Hollingsworth, 88,
widow of Lebern Hollingsworth were on Monday, December
16 at 11:00 a.m. at the Stockdale-Malin Chapel in
Camden, with Bro. Chester Harrison Officiating. Burial
was in the Camden City Cemetery.
Mrs. Hollingsworth, a retired salesperson for the
National Store and a member of the First Baptist Church
and the Eastern Star, died on Saturday, December 14 at
Lifecare Center in Bruceton. She was born, July 18, 1914
in Benton County.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Butler of
Birmingham, Alabama; a son, Dwayne Hollingsworh of
Camden; a sister, Robbie Johnson of Dickson; five
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Arlie S. Ward
1913-2002
GLEASON: Services for Arlie S. Ward, 89, were at
2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 15 at Gallimore Funeral Home
with Revs. Bob Copeland and Roy Auvenshine officiating.
Burial was in the Hopewell Cemetery.
Mr. Ward died on Friday, December 13 at his home. He was
a member of the Gleason First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mattie Ruth Taylor Ward;
daughters, Mary Ruth Roberts of Greenfield, Dorothy Sue
Auvenshine of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, and Betty Jean
Brawner of Gleason, a son, James Thomas Ward of Cloves,
South Carolina; eight grandchildren, 11
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Lillian James
1922-2002
CEDAR GROVE: Services for Lillian James, 80, were
held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 12 at Reed’s
Chapel. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. James died on Monday, December 9 at Jackson-Madison
County General Hospital.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara James Bobo of
Millports, Alabama and Carolyn James Driver of Atlanta,
Georgia; two sons, Larry D. James of Spring Creek and
Robert L. James of Jackson; one brother, James C. “Bill”
Jordan of Jacks Creek; four grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Connie “Pete” James, preceded her in death.
Mable E. McMackins
1919-2002
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Mable E. McMackins, 83, died on
Thursday, December 12 at the Huntingdon Health and
Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were conducted
on Saturday, December 14 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chase
Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Hugo Sellers and
Brother Doug Sellers officiating. Interment followed in
the Palmer Shelter Cemetery.
Mrs. McMackins was born November 18, 1919 in Carroll
County to the late Homer and Lydia Hardy Mann. She
retired from Publix Shirt Corporation and was a member
of the Holladays Chapel Church of Christ. Her first
husband, Jim Lacy and her second husband, Russell
McMackins, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two stepdaughters, Betty Webb of
Huntingdon and Ann McClintock of Little Rock, Arkansas;
one stepson, Donald McMackins of Huntingdon; two
sisters, Verda Wooters of Huntingdon and Alene Daniels
of Murfreesboro; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers who served were David Sellers, Junior
Reeves, Wayne Eskew, Billy Parham, Lane Dill and Jack
McCaslin.
Carrie Barger Rainey
1911-2002
ATWOOD: Services for Carrie Barger Rainey, 91, were
at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 16 at Bodkin Funeral
Home with burial in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Rainey, a retired employee of the Milan Ammunition
Plant, died on Thursday, December 12 at her home. She
was the widow of Allen “Jack” Rainey.
Survivors include two sons, Rev. Allen Eugene Rainey of
Osceola, Arkansas and Robert “Bo” Rainey of Milan; a
daughter, Frances Dean Wilson of Jackson; two brothers,
Floyd Barger and Farris Barger; seven grandchildren, six
great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Eulas Roark
1924-2002
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Eulas Roark, 78, died on Saturday,
December 14 at the Jackson-Madison County General
Hospital. Funeral services were conducted on Monday,
December 16 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chase Funeral Home
Chapel with Bro. Bill Goodpasture officiating. Interment
followed in the Hampton Cemetery.
Mr. Roark was born August 31, 1924 in Carroll County to
the late Dudley and Florence Anderson Roark. He was a
retired custodian for Publix Shirt Corporation and a
member of the Huntingdon Church of Christ. His
stepmother, Ola Roark; two stepsons, Larry Woods and
Danny Woods; three brothers, Homer Roark, Raymond Roark
and Horace Roark and two sisters, Jewel Adcox and
Roberta Bates preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Estelle Roark; one daughter,
Sue Ellen Baucom of Huntingdon; two stepdaughters, Linda
Brinkley of Huntingdon and Debbie Baumgardner of Cedar
Grove; three stepsons, Randy Woods of Camden, Stanley
Woods and Michael Woods, both of Huntingdon; one sister,
Polly Hall of Huntingdon; twelve step-grandchildren;
seven step-great-grandchildren and fifteen nieces and
nephews.
Pallbearers who served were Randall Roark, Gary Hall,
Kenny Rush, Ricky Miller, Arvin Morris and Dr. Camron
Hall.
Carolyn Gardner Wiser
1927-2002
HOLLOW ROCK: Services for Clayton Gardner Wiser, 75,
were at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 13 at Bruceton
Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Donny Gateley officiating.
Burial was in the Twin Oaks Cemetery near Huntingdon.
Mr. Wiser, a retired brick mason, died on Wednesday,
December 11 at Lifecare Center in Bruceton.
He was born May 30, 1927 in Lewisburg to the late Boston
and Martha Elizabeth Townsend Wiser. He was a member of
the Twin Oaks Church of Christ and a World War II
veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Sue King Wiser; a daughter,
Kim Mitchum of McKenzie; a son, Chris Wiser of Jackson,
Mississippi; a sister, Hazel Thompson of Lewisburg; a
brother, Eugene Wiser of Lewisburg; four grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.
