Oma Nell Blackburn
DRESDEN: Services for Ona Nell Blackburn, 87, were at
2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 13 at Gallimore Funeral Home
Chapel with Bro. Thomas Tolley officiating. Burial was in
Hornbeak Cemetery in Greenfield.
Mrs. Blackburn, widow of Horace Blackburn, died Monday,
February 11 at Methodist Volunteer Hospital in Martin.
She was born July 10, 1914 in Dresden to the late John
Bell and Clercy Fowler. She was a member of McKenzie
Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Billy Blackburn of Dresden; a
daughter Etta Fields of Florence, Kentucky and eight
grandchildren.
A son, Bobby Blackburn, preceded her in death.
Faulton L. Connell
SOUTH FULTON: Services for Faulton L. Connell, 51,
were at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 16 at Hornbeak
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ron Cox and David
Sticklin officiating. Burial was in Obion County Memorial
Gardens in Union City.
Mr. Connell died Thursday, February 14 at Western Baptist
Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky.
He was born September 19, 1950 in Weakley County to the
late Hershell and Hazel Gant Connell. He retired two years
ago from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Union City.
He was an Air Force veteran who served in Viet Nam. He was
a member of Prospect Baptist Church in Greenfield and a
member of the Ken-Tenn Beagle Club in association with the
United Beagle Gun Dog Federation.
Survivors include his wife Jennifer Haddad Connell and a
sister, Beverly Ellis of McKenzie.
Leo E. Prince
CLARKSBURG: Mr. Leo Prince died Thursday afternoon,
February 15, at the Huntingdon Health & Rehabilitation
Center after a long illness. He had been a patient there
for some time. He was born in Benton County near Holladay.
He moved to Clarksburg as a young boy and spent most of
his life there. He attended Clarksburg School and was a
member of the Roans Creek Church of Christ.
Sergeant Leo Prince served his country with over 20 years
of service in the army. During World War II he was in the
Pacific area serving active duty. He also served duty in
the Viet Nam Conflict for two years. He retired shortly
after discharge.
He leaves two sisters, Hazel Smith of Clarksburg where he
made his home and Jean Hester of Huntingdon; two brothers,
Guy Prince of Clarksburg and Lyle Prince of Vermilian,
Ohio and six nieces.
Full military funeral services were conducted at Roans
Creek Church of Christ on Saturday, February 16 with
Brother Josh Ketchum and Brother Charles Thompson
officiating. Interment followed at Blair Cemetery in
Clarksburg.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Gilbert A. Hampton
BUENA VISTA: Mr. Gilbert A. Hampton, 67, died Tuesday,
February 12 at his home. Funeral services were conducted
on Wednesday, February 13 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mt. Comfort
Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Jeff Bryant and Bro.
Jeff Simmons officiating. Interment followed in the church
cemetery.
Mr. Hampton was born June 27, 1934 in Carroll County to
the late Roland Andrew and Birdie (Harris) Hampton. He was
a retired employee of the Carroll County Highway
Department and believed in the Baptist faith. Two
brothers, Delbert Hampton and William Hampton, also
preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Hicks Hampton; one
daughter, Belinda Lee of Wildersville; one son, Chris
Hampton of Huntingdon; five sisters, Dorothy Ellis and
Barbara Williams, both of Buena Vista, Stella Cary of
Bruceton, Alice Lowe of Kentucky, and Judy Showalter of
Ohio; two brothers, Jimmy Hampton of Camden and Roland
Andrew Hampton, Jr. of North Carolina; one granddaughter
and four great-grandchildren.
Chase Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mable Lou French
MCKENZIE: Services for Mable Lou French, 69, were at
2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 19 at Brummitt Funeral Home
with the Rev. Dennis Beal officiating. Burial was in Mt.
Olivet Cemetery in McKenzie.
Mrs. French, Clerk at Carroll County Health Department in
Huntingdon, died Saturday, February 16 at The Med in
Memphis of heart failure.
She was born June 17, 1932 in McKenzie to the late Etter
Robinson French and Thomas M. "Red" French.
Survivors include a son, Bobby French of McKenzie; three
stepsisters, Jessie Rae Willstead of Bruceton, Mella
Searett of Nashville, and Deeann McAlexander of Cedar
Grove; and three stepbrothers, Samuel Gateley of Bruceton,
Ervin Anderson of McKenzie and Ray Anderson of Paris.
Ruth Bobo Freeman
MCKENZIE: Services for Mrs. Ruth Bobo Freeman, 93,
were at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 14 at Brummitt
Funeral Home with the Rev. Harrell Nation and Bro. J. E.
Pugh officiating. Burial was in Mr. Olivet Cemetery in
McKenzie. Mrs. Freeman died Tuesday, February 12 at
McKenzie Methodist Hospital.
She was born November 19, 1908 in McKenzie to the late
Gertrude Young Bobo and Foster Bobo. She was a member of
the First United Methodist Church in McKenzie.
Her husband, Howard Freeman, preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Eddie Freeman of McKenzie,
Jimmy Freeman of Orange Beach, Alabama and Ben Freeman of
Tucson, Arizona; seven grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
Wanda Faye Coleman
HUNTINGDON: Services for Wanda Faye Coleman, 59, were
held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 19 at LeDon Chapel of
Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris with the Revs. George Hill,
Steve Atwood and James Humphreys officiating. Burial was
in Chapel Hill Methodist Cemetery in Huntingdon.
Mrs. Coleman, employee of New Generations in McKenzie,
died Saturday, February 16 at her home.
She was born October 5, 1942 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She
was a member of Eastview Baptist Church in Huntingdon.
Survivors include her husband, William P. Coleman; two
sons, Standley Coleman of Camden and John Coleman of Dyer;
her mother and stepfather, Hallie Adams Quattrooch and
Monty Quattrooch of Indianapolis, Indiana; four sisters
Sandy Slagle of Martinsville, Indiana, Nancy Morris of
Avon, Indiana, Sonya Wright and Margaret Deaton, both of
Indianapolis, Indiana; a brother, John Vinard of
Greenfield and two grandchildren.
Her father, John Vinard; a sister, Martha Phelps and a
brother, Billy Vinard preceded her in death.
Clay B. Hurley
Memorial services were held on Thursday, February 14 for
Clay Hurley of Murfreesboro. He passed away on Saturday,
February 9 at the Veteran's Hospital in Murfreesboro.
Mr. Hurley served as the first administrator of the United
Hospitals Corp. of McKenzie, which is now Methodist/LeBonheur
Hospital of McKenzie.
Survivors include his wife, Marion and two children, Hanna
and Kellett.
