Rosetta Smith
WESTPORT: Ms. Rosetta Smith, 89, died Friday, January
18 at the Life Care Center in Bruceton. Funeral services
were conducted on Sunday, January 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the
Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mitchell Rayburn
officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was born December 18, 1912 in Holladay to the
late Joe and Viola (Crews) Inman. She was a member of the
Oak Grove Baptist Church and a homemaker. A daughter,
Ramona Hensley, who died in 1977; one sister, Bertha
Ledbetter; two brothers, Roy Inman and Troy Inman and one
granddaughter preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters, Laura Glover of Westport
and Bonnie Sanders of Lexington; one sister, Lilly Kelly
of Camden; eight grandchildren, fourteen
great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Mary Sue Blankenship
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Mary Sue Blankenship, 80, died
Monday, January 14 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital of
Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday,
January 16 at 3:00 p.m. at the Corinth Baptist Church with
Bro. Don Franks and Bro. John Columbus officiating.
Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Blankenship was born December 15, 1921 in Darden to
the late Samuel A. and Beulah (Kolwyck) Biggs. She was
retired from the Milan Arsenal and was a member of the
Huntingdon First Pentecostal Church. Her husband, William
H. Blankenship, who died in 1985, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sisters, Lula McConnell of Darden
and Thelma Tate of White House.
Chase Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Danny Eugene Humfress
GULFPORT, MISSISSIPPI: Services for Mr. Danny Eugene
Humfress, 48, were at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 20 at
Gallimore Funeral Home with burial in Sunset Cemetery. Mr.
Humfress, a self-employed construction worker, died
Wednesday, January 16, at his home of a heart attack.
He was born May 29, 1953 in Lake County.
Survivors include three daughters, Tonya Humfress of
Gleason, Tabita Humfress of Dresden and Tatrina Smith of
Greenfield; his parents, Dallas and Christine Humfress of
Tiptonville; two brothers, Roy Humfress of Tiptonville and
Ricky Humfress of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi; a sister,
Gloria Hester of Gulfport, Mississippi and six
grandchildren. Douglas M. Edwards
MCKENZIE: The Rev. Douglas MacArther Edwards, 60, died
Sunday morning, January 13 at his residence. Edwards was a
former pastor at several area churches including Allen
Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Paris.
Services were at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 19 at the
Webb High School building in McKenzie with James G. Dowell
officiating.
Born April 5, 1941 in Dresden, he was a son of the late
Aaron and Millie Irvin Edwards. Edwards graduated from
Weakley County Training School in Martin and the
vocational school in McKenzie. He was a member of Johnson
Temple CME Church in McKenzie. He retired from the
National Guard after 22 years of service and served in the
Viet Nam Conflict and Operation Desert Storm.
Survivors include his wife, Mary K. Edwards (married
December 18, 1976), a daughter, Tia Rooks of Martin; two
sons, Darrell Marshall of Stone Mountain Georgia and Bruce
Marshall of Decatur, Georgia; five sisters, Jo Jean
Gardner of Warner Robins, Georgia, Shirley Ware of
Evansville, Indiana, Peggy Willoughby of East St. Louis,
Illinois, Jacqueline Edwards of Dresden and Gail Edwards
of Martin; four grandchildren and several nieces, nephews
and cousins.
A sister, Hazel Edwards and five brothers, Johnie,
Charles, James, Otis, and Odell Edwards preceded him in

MILAN: Funeral services for Zular Elizabeth Lange, 67,
were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 21 at the Brummitt
Funeral Home in McKenzie with Bro. Tony Latham
officiating. Burial was in Pisgah Cemetery in Atwood.
Ms. Lange, a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church
in McKenzie, died Friday night, January 18 at the
Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
She was born December 18, 1934 in Cades to the late
Cordelia Milton Lynch and LeRoy Lynch.
Survivors include two sons, Danny Stanton of Milan and
Mike Stanton of Atwood; one brother, Melvin Lynch of
McKenzie; three grandchildren and one step-grandchild.
Opal Mae Bradberry
DRESDEN: Services for Opal Mae Bradberry, 71, were at
3:30 p.m. Thursday, January 17 at LeDon Chapel Ridgeway
Funeral Home. Burial was in Bevil Cemetery.
Mrs. Bradberry died Tuesday, January 15 at Methodist
Hospital in McKenzie.
She was born August 31, 1930 in Milan to the late Henry N.
Taylor and Florence P. Williams Taylor. She was a member
of Hodges Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Stella Yelueton of McKenzie
and Virginia Sneed of Memphis.
Her husband, R. D. Bradberry; two brothers, Marvin H.
Taylor and Billy Taylor and a sister, Maggie Moberry
preceded her in death. Michael Leon
Lewis
HENRY: Michael Leon Lewis, 48, died of heart failure
early Tuesday morning, January 15, at Jackson-Madison
County General Hospital. The body was cremated.
A memorial service was held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday,
January 17 at Henry United Methodist Church where he
attended with the Rev. Alan Trull, pastor, officiating.
Born April 20, 1953 in Milan, he was a son of L. M. and
Mildred Jarrett Lewis of Henry.
He was married to the former Rita Williams, who survives,
on May 27, 1973. He was a truck driver for Replogle
Enterprises.
In addition to his wife and parents, he leaves two
daughters, Misty Lewis Vermillion and Miranda Lewis, both
of Paris; two brothers, Lloyd Lewis of Henry and Dan Lewis
of St. Louis and one grandchild.
Memorials may be made in Lewis' name to Henry United
Methodist Church, P.O. Box 185, Henry, TN 38231.
Kathleen Hillsman Taylor
HUNTINGDON: Ms. Kathleen Taylor, 94, died Tuesday,
January 15 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral
services were conducted on Thursday, January 17 in the
Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Parker officiating.
Interment followed at Hawkins Cemetery.
Ms. Taylor was born March 21, 1907 in Carroll County. She
was a homemaker. Her husband, Carnell Hillsman, who died
April 30, 1981; a brother, Willie Johnson and a sister,
Exie Clark, preceded her in death.
Survivors include five stepdaughters, Lenora Greer of
McLemoresville, Ethel Nash of Huntingdon, Augusta Hunt of
Kingsford Heights, Indiana, Willa Limpkins of Benton
Harbor, Michigan and Maggie Thomas of Orange County,
California and 21 grandchildren.
Mary Lee Jordan
BRUCETON: Mrs. Mary Lee Jordan, 73, died Wednesday,
January 16 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral
services were conducted on Friday, January 18 in the
Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Larry DePriest
officiating. Interment followed in Hebron Cemetery.
Mrs. Jordan was born November 23, 1928 to the late Tom and
Emma Lee Baker Traywick in Carroll County. She was a
retired employee of Henry I. Siegel.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, W. C. Jordan;
two sons, Guy Jordan of Lexington and Paul Jordan of
Bruceton; a stepson, David Jordan of Holladay; one
brother, Iley Traywick of Florida; one sister, Ora Smith
of Huntingdon and three grandchildren.
Edna Mae Goodrum
HUNTINGDON: Ms. Edna Mae Goodrum, 101, died Wednesday,
January 16 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral
services were conducted on Friday, January 18 in the
Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Robert White
officiating. Interment followed at Palmer Shelter
Cemetery.
Ms. Goodrum was born May 4, 1900 to the late Dave L. and
Mattie Burt Stewart Wooters. She was a homemaker, a member
of the Huntingdon First Methodist Church, the American
Legion, DAV, and the Home Demonstration Club. Her husband,
Joseph Hersie Goodrum, who died May 18,1986, and a
daughter, Hazel DeWhitt.
She is survived by one son, Roy Goodrum of Huntingdon; two
daughters, Frances Eskew and Doris McMackin, both of
Huntingdon; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren;
and three great-great-grandchildren.
Edwin Thomas "Ed" Ellis
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Edwin Thomas "Ed" Ellis, 70, died
Sunday, January 20 at his home. Funeral services were
conducted on Tuesday, January 22 at the Huntingdon
Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Lynn Stapleton
officiating. Interment followed in the New Hope Cemetery
near Yuma.
Mr. Ellis, the son of the late Edmond Thomas and Ola
Robinson Ellis, was born July 27, 1931 in Carroll County.
He was a World War II army veteran, a member of the
Huntingdon Missionary Baptist Church and a retired
mechanic.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mrs. Hattie Louise
Ellis; two daughter, Judy Ellis White and Kathy Ellis
Kelley, both of Huntingdon; one brother, Billy Joe Ellis
of McKenzie; and five grandchildren.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
George E. Griggs
HOLLOW ROCK: Services for George E. Griggs, 79, were
at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 19 at Stockdale-Malin
Chapel with Danny Jordan officiating. Burial was in Benton
Memorial Garden in Camden.
A retired electrician, he died Wednesday, January 16 at
his residence.
He was born October 15, 1922 in Benton County to the late
Eugene Earl Griggs and Mary Rebecca Jordan Griggs. He was
a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include two daughters, Sally Reese and Georgette
Rocha; two sisters, Dorothy Higdon and Betty Bell; a
brother, James Griggs and four grandchildren.
James Ross
MCKENZIE: Services for Mr. James Ross, 79, were at
1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 22 at Brummitt Funeral Home
with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McKenzie. Mr. Ross,
a retired carpenter, died Sunday, January 20,at Oak Manor
Nursing Home in McKenzie.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Webb Ross;
sons, Charles Ross, Roy Ross, Darrell Ross and Robert
Ross, all of McKenzie and Tony Ross of Union City;
daughters, Betty Ridley and Deborah Wilkes, both of
McKenzie, Ann Hill of Union City and Shelia Bynum of
Dresden; sister Marie Galbraith of Detroit, Michigan; 30
grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Dale Ross and Jerry Ross, three brothers,
Clarence Edward Ross, John Ross and Harry Junior
Robertson; and three sisters, Ida Burlison, Dora Graves
and Lucille Robertson preceded him in death.
Anna M. Flanagan
FLOUR BLUFF, TEXAS: Anna M. Flanagan, 83, passed away
on Friday, January 11 at her home. She was born on May 13,
1918 in Blue Rapids, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by her husband, Jack G. Flanagan,
one son, David Dale Flanagan; one grandson and one
granddaughter.
She is survived by four daughters, Merri Ann Kalba and
Barbara Ann Flanagan, both of York, Nebraska, Shirley J.
Dotson and Jacquelyn R. Flanagan, both of Flour Bluff,
Texas; nine grandchildren (one grandson, Michael Reid of
McKenzie); 24 great-grandchildren and eleven great great
grandchildren.
Services will be in Nebraska at a later date. Arrangements
will be made by Flour Bluff-Padre Isle Funeral Home in

Hopper
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Murphy Gene Hopper, 62, died Sunday,
January 20 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, January 22 at
2:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry
Hollingsworth officiating. Interment followed in the
Prospect Cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Mr. Hopper, a retired logger, was born February 2, 1939 in
Carroll County to the late Roy and Ruth (Tubbs) Hopper. A
son, Roy Lee Hopper, who died in 1966 and a bother, Leslie
Hopper, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Hopper; two sister,
Wilma Lowery of Bruceton and Verna Mae Jackson of Hollow
Rock; four brothers, Wess Hopper of Vale, Robert Hopper
and Norman Hopper, both of Hollow Rock and Jack Hopper of
Bruceton; and two half-brothers, R. G. Hopper of Camden
and Vernon Hopper of Parsons.
Magnolia Allen
WESTPORT: Mrs. Magnolia Allen, 81, died Thursday,
January 17 at her home. Funeral services were conducted on
Saturday, January 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mt. Comfort
Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Verdell Allen and Bro.
Jeff Bryant officiating. Interment followed in the church
cemetery.
Mrs. Allen was born July 91, 1920 in Benton County to the
late John Henry and Minnie Lee (Jones) Simmons. She was a
homemakers and a member of Mt. Comfort Missionary Baptist
Church. Her husband, Carlie G. Allen, who died April 15,
1993 and five brothers, Bartlett Simmons, Carlos Simmons,
Calvin Simmons, Loyd Simmons and John Henry Simmons,
preceded her in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Minnie Sue House of
Raleigh, North Carolina, Velda Tegethoff of Christmasville
and Linda Abbott of Huntingdon; three sons, Milbern Allen
of Hollow Rock, Malcolm Allen of Westport, and Melvin
Allen of Jackson; two brothers, Herald Simmons and Ray
Simmons, both of Newark, Ohio; twelve grandchildren and
eight great-grandchildren.

Virgie Mae Johnson
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Virgie Mae Johnson, 93, died Monday,
January 14, at the McKenzie Health Care Center in
McKenzie. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday,
January 16, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel
with Bro. Chad Ramsey and Bro. Bill Goodpasture
officiating. Interment followed in the Carroll Memorial
Gardens.
Mrs. Johnson was born October 24, 1908 in the Roans Creek
Community of Carroll County to the late Fernando Addison
and Ada Mae (Brandon) Wall. She was a member of the
Huntingdon Church of Christ and Huntingdon Education
Association and did volunteer work for Baptist Hospital
and the American Red Cross. Her husband, James Henry
Johnson, Sr.; two sisters, Arnell Wall and Irene (Wall)
Pritchard and four brothers, F. A. Wall Jr., Thomas
Clayton Wall, Johnnie Young Wall and James Edward Wall Sr.
preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, James Henry (Jimmy) Johnson of
McKenzie; one sister, Dorothy Jean Gooch of Memphis; two
granddaughters, and two great-grandsons. |
