Marilyn J. "Susie" Gibbs
PERRY, MICHIGAN: With her family at her side, Marilyn
J. "Susie" Gibbs, passed away on January 16 at Hospice
House of Mid Michigan in Lansing at the age of 62,
following a valiant struggle with cancer.
Susie was born on October 10, 1939 in Owosso, the eldest
daughter of Mary Ellen and Dale DeFrenn. On October 28,
1972, she married Kenneth Gibbs. They lived in Perry until
1987 when they moved to McKenzie. They returned to make
their home in Perry in October 1999.
Susie is survived by her husband, Kenneth; daughter, Carla
(Bud) Grossnickle of McKenzie; daughter Kathy (special
friend Bruce Braid) of Durand; son, Claytie (Christi)
Nethaway of McKenzie, daughter Kelly (fiancée John Delong)
of Perry; son Craig (Lisa) Gibbs of Perry; grandchildren,
Bobby Haddix, Alicia Haddix, Nicole Grennell, Mary
Nethaway, Joshua Doxtrader, Morgan Gibbs, and Annie Gibbs;
sisters, Doris (Robert) Harper of Perry, Jackie (John)
Hurd of Owosso, Jerry (Jerry) McDevitt of Owosso, Judy
(Robert) Beach of Owosso; brother Mike (fiancée Joanie
Caswell) DeFrenn of Laingsburg; several nieces, nephews,
aunts, uncles and a host of good friends.
Her parents and an infant son, Cary Dale, predeceased her
in death.
Susie was a graduate of Perry High School, with the class
of 1957. Prior to her move to Tennessee, she had been
employed as a bus driver with Perry Public Schools, a
teller at First of America Bank of Perry and First Federal
Bank of Perry. Susie was an avid golfer and was active in
the "Rambler Rays" Relay for Life team and other American
Cancer Society Volunteer activities.
While living in Tennessee she worked for the Carroll Lake
Golf Club and she and her team represented the State of
Tennessee at three American Cancer Society national Golf
Championships.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 19 at
11:00 a.m. at the Watkins Brothers Funeral Home (LaRowe
Chapel) in Perry with the Rev. George Harris and the Rev.
Timothy Harmon officiating. Burial was in Roselawn
Cemetery in Perry.
Those wishing to make donations in Susie's memory may make
them to Relay for Life, Hospice House of Mid Michigan or

Bryant
ATWOOD: Services for Lucy Mildred Bryant, 74, were at
1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 29 at Mt. Olivet Baptist
Church in Atwood. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Bryant died Saturday, January 26 at Jackson-Madison
County General Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Luther B. Bryant, Sr.; four
daughters, Edna Duke and Barbara Christmas, both of Cedar
Rapids, Iowa, Frances S. Brown of Glenwood, Illinois and
Betty J. Taylor of Atwood; three brothers, Bobby J.
Bryant, Luther B. Bryant, Jr. and Terry L. Bryant, all of
Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and two sisters, Jossie L. Pearson and
Jessie L. Bryant, both of Atwood.
Rawls Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Patricia Ann Wilson
HUNTINGDON: Miss Patricia Ann Wilson, 13, died Friday,
January 25 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, January 27 in
the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Kevin Holland
officiating. Interment followed in the Bethel Cemetery.
Miss Wilson was born June 10, 1988 in Davidson County.
She is survived by her parents, Ronnie and Brenda Wilson
of Huntingdon. Della Verlene Rumley
HUNTINGDON: Ms. Della Verlene Rumley, 81, died
Thursday, January 24 at the Life Care Center in Bruceton.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday, January 25 in
the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Lynn Stapleton
and Bro. Wayne Holmes officiating. Interment followed in
Long Rock Cemetery.
Ms. Rumley was born May 23, 1920 in Carroll County. She
was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband,
Barney Rumley, who died in 1970;one son, Allen Rumley and
one brother, William Story.
Survivors include one daughter, Maxine Chandler of
Huntingdon; four sons, Dwayne Rumley of Bruceton, Ira
Rumley of McMinnville, and Miles Rumley and Terry Rumley,
both of Huntingdon; two brothers, Verdell Story of
McKenzie and Damon Story of Paris; two sisters, Dorothy
Kennon of Paris and Evelyene VanCleave of Michigan; nine
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Louise Young
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Louise Young, 72, died Saturday,
January 26 of injuries she sustained in an automobile
accident. Funeral services were conducted on Monday,
January 28 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Elder
Lynn Stapleton and Brother Fred Ward officiating.
Interment followed in Jamison Cemetery.
Mrs. Young was born November 26, 1929 in Carroll County to
the late Marshall C. and Zona Thurman Spellings. She was
retired from Bill Sills Sportswear and a member of the
Westport Baptist Church. Her husband, Willis Clay Young,
who died December 8, 1952, preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Cindi Baxter of
Huntingdon; one son, Mark A. Young of Franklin; two
sisters, Jane Kirby of Huntingdon and Frances Scates of
Bruceton; one brother, Jerry Spellings of Huntingdon and
two grandchildren. Edward G. Ward
MCKENZIE: Services for Edward G. "Whale" Ward, 51,
were at 3:00 p.m., Friday, January 25 at Brummitt Funeral
Home in McKenzie with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Mr.
Ward a retired security guard, was DOA at Methodist
Hospital on Wednesday, January 23.
He was born June 6, 1950 in Milan. He was a member of the
Cumberland Presbyterian Church in McKenzie.
Survivors include his wife, Zoelanda S. Ward and his
mother, Mary G. Ward. His father, Harlon E. Ward and a
brother, Richard E. Ward, preceded him in death.
Robert Edward Clement
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Robert Edward Clement, 66, died
Sunday, January 27 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. A
memorial service will be conducted at a later time.
He was born January 27, 1936 in McKenzie to the late Fred
Harrison and Linnie Dinkins Clement. He was a retired
plumber and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Nadine Clement; one daughter,
Donna Eubank of McKenzie; two sisters, Gloria Lott of
Bartlett and Betty Elinor of Florida and four
grandchildren.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Buddy Gray
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Buddy Gray, 60, died Sunday, January
27 at the Methodist LeBonheur Hospital in Jackson.
Graveside services were conducted on Tuesday, January 29
at 2:00 p.m. at the Pucket Methodist Church Cemetery in
Pucket, Mississippi.
Mr. Gray was born November 5, 1941 in Mississippi to the
late Walter Miles and Verda Louise (Grady) Gray. He was a
project superintendent for Clark Construction Company and
a United States Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife Melissa Robinson Gray; one
stepdaughter, Jade Robinson and two stepsons, Field
Robinson and Preston Robinson, all of Huntingdon.
Chase Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Robert Waylon Segraves
WILDERSVILLE: Services for Robert Waylon Segraves, 22,
were at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 27 at Reeds Chapel
Funeral Home in Lexington. Burial was in Jones Cemetery in
Wildersville.
Mr. Segraves died Thursday, January 24 at Methodist
Hospital in Lexington.
Survivors include his mother and father, Robbie and Sammy
Segraves of Wildersville; a brother, Wade Segraves of
Yuma; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Peterson
and Mrs. Mildred Segraves, all of Yuma.
Talvin E. Bevill
PARIS: Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday,
January 28, at McEvoy Funeral Home for Talvin Edward
Bevill. Jerry Drye of Henry Baptist Church, where he
attended, officiated the service. Burial was in Hillcrest
Cemetery.
Bevill, 59, died on Friday, January 25, at his residence
of an apparent heart attack.
He was born in Henry County on March 30, 1942 to the late
Clarence Odell Beville and Ruth Taylor Bevill. He was
married April 1, 1961 to the former Nelda Faye Marrs, who
died October 16, 1998.
He was a retired self-employed tool and die maker.
Survivors include three daughters, Donna Bush and Brenda
Crouch, both of Paris and Tina Harris of Mansfield; four
sisters, Martha Shrader and Patricia Bowers, both of
Henry, Sherry Bevill of Paris and Rebecca Mackie of
Connecticut; two brothers, Jessie Bevill of Buchanan and
Clarence Bevill of Paris; and eight grandchildren.
Three brothers also preceded him in death, James Bevill in
1994, Danny Bevill in 1995 and Bobby Bevill in childhood. |
