Velma Snead
MCKENZIE: Mrs. Velma Snead, 94, passed away on Sunday,
June 2 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 5 at
2:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Paul
Merwin, Bro. Russ Carlock and Bro. Vance Rushing
officiating. Interment will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery
in Mansfield.
Mrs. Snead was born October 19, 1907 in Carroll County to
the late Robert Lee Hastings and Anna Beulah Wilcox. She
was a graduate of Henry High School and attended Bethel
College in McKenzie. She retired from the Department of
Human Services, serving as Carroll County Director in 1972
and was a member of the Long Rock Methodist Church. Her
husband, Mace Snead, who died in 1977 and two sisters,
Ruth McCadams and Gladys Davis preceded her in death.
Survivors include a niece, Bessie Ruth Ashby of Mansfield,
two nephews, Charles Davis of Hollow Rock and Carl Davis
of Mansfield; a foster brother, Vernon Walker of Orange
Blossom, Florida; and three great-nieces and six
great-nephews.
The family will receive friends in the Cherry Wood room of
Chase Funeral Home from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Paul Thomas Carroll
MCKENZIE: Paul Thomas Carroll, 77, died Friday, May 31
at Oak Manor Health Care Center in McKenzie. Services were
held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 2 at Brummitt Funeral Home
with Bro. Don Capperton officiating. Burial followed in Mt
Olivet Cemetery. Pallbearers were James Adams, Joe Hearn,
John Baumgardner, Phillip Morrissett, Bailey Wrinkle and
Robert Highfil. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Vawter,
J.B. Johnsonius and Max Manley.
Mr. Carroll, the son of the late Harry Carroll and Lucille
Lankford Carroll, was born February 2, 1925 in McKenzie.
He was a retired owner of Paul Carroll Ins. Agency and
Carroll Farms in McKenzie. He was a World War II army
veteran and was also a member of the VFW, American Legion,
and U.S.A. Presbyterian Church. His wife, Nellie Ann
Carroll, preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Carroll of McKenzie and
Mike Carroll of Knoxville; two sisters, Betty Wheat of
Paris and Nell McAden of Wales, Mississippi; and five
grandchildren, Paul Carroll, Rachel Carroll, Brandon
Carroll, Brett Carroll and Chase Carroll.
He served as a commissioner on the Carroll County
Commission, served on the Methodist Hospital Board, the
McKenzie Special School District Board of Education and
McKenzie Industrial Board.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made
to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
H. Wray Gaston
JONESBORO, ARKANSAS: Graveside services for H. Wray
Gaston, 83, were at 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 3 at New
Prospect Cemetery with Bro. Junior Jones officiating.
Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka, Mississippi was in charge
of the arrangements.
Mr. Gaston, formerly of McKenzie, died Friday, May 31 at
the VA Medical Center in McKenzie.
He was a Baptist and a World War II army veteran who
served in the Pacific Theater. He owned a service station
in Memphis for many years and was a salesman for Wynn's
oil company. His parents, Herman and Martha Gaston and a
stepson, Rodney Rutherford preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Gaston; a son, Gary
Gaston of Ft. Worth, Texas; a daughter, Debra Flippin of
Germantown; four stepdaughters, Patricia Cunningham of
Brownsville, Brenda Nipp of Gates, Paula Hawkins of West
Virginia, and Diane Bull of Jonesboro, Arkansas; five
grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren and eight
step-great-grandchildren, several nieces and several
nephews.
Guy Harold "Doc" Revel
HENRY: Services for Guy Harold "Doc" Revel, 67, were
at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 1 at McEvoy Funeral Home with
Dusty Stout, pastor of Fairview Baptist Church
officiating. Burial followed in Fodge Cemetery in Henry
County.
Mr. Revel died Thursday morning, May 30 at Oak Manor
Nursing Home in McKenzie. A Henry County native, he was
born June 5, 1934 to the late Hulie Revel and Nona Joyner
Revel Ervin.
He was married on March 2, 1989 to the former Shirley
Wyatt who survives.
Revel was a self-employed logger. He was a U.S. Army
veteran and served in the Tennessee National Guard. He was
a member of the Henry Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter,
Wendy Huddleston of Henry; one son, Will Revel of
McKenzie; one stepdaughter, Sherry Heck of Boyertown,
Pennsylvania; one stepson, Christopher Pillinger of Henry;
three sisters, Dorothy Clendenin of Paris, Mildred Horn of
Murray and Virginia Aden of Louden; one brother, Joe H.
Revel of Henry and four grandchildren.
Daisy Mae Butler
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Daisy Mai Butler, 86, died Thursday,
May 30 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services
were conducted on Saturday, June 1 at the Oak Grove
Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Jimmy Stewart,
Brother Phillip Halter and Brother Bill Goodpasture
officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Butler was born March 10, 1916 in Carroll County to
the late Henry Clinton and Lou Genie Bond Butler. She was
a homemaker, schoolteacher, and a columnist. She wrote the
Spanish Grove News and This, That and the Other for the
paper for 60 years. She was a member of Oak Grove
Missionary Baptist Church for 72 years, a lifetime member
of the Spanish Grove Home Demonstration Club and a member
of the Republican Executive Committee. Her husband, Loren
Levi Butler, who died in 1995, an infant daughter, Joyce
Dean Butler; two sisters, Edna Joyner and Clell Nolen and
two brothers, Herman Butler and Eldon Butler preceded her
in death.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Norma and
Jerry Hardy of Huntingdon; two granddaughters, Janet Hill
of Huntingdon and Adriana (Alex) Griffy of Cordova; and
one great-grandson, Logan Hill of Huntingdon.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
James Etheridge Gowan
ATWOOD: Services for Mr. James Etheridge Gowan, 87,
were at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 31 at Bodkin Funeral Home
with burial in Hopewell Cemetery in Lavinia. Mr. Gowan
died Wednesday, May 29.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Johnson Gowan; a
sister, Annie Mai Arrington and a brother, Jodie Gowan.
Marie F. Travis
MCKENZIE: Services for Marie F. Travis were held on
Sunday, June 2 at 2:00 p.m. at Brummitt Funeral Home with
Bro. Aaron Holmes officiating. Burial was in Pilgrim's
Rest Cemetery.
Mrs. Travis died Thursday, May 30 at Methodist Hospital in
McKenzie.
She was born September 13, 1916 in McKenzie to the late
Lela Allen Featherstone and Will Featherstone. She was a
member of the Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Hammett of Cedar Grove;
four sons, Kenneth Travis of Greenfield, William and Larry
Wayne Travis, both of McKenzie and Charles Travis of
Milan; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Faye E. Myrick
GLEASON: Graveside services for Mrs. Faye E. Myrick,
77, were held Sunday, June 2 at 3:00 p.m. at Olive Branch
Cemetery.
Mrs. Myrick died Tuesday, May 28 in Lawrenceville,
Georgia.
Survivors include a daughter, Juanita Stallings.
Gallimore Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Erleene Darby Sanders
DRESDEN: Erleene Darby Sanders, 82, died Friday, May
31 at the home of her daughter, Shirley Copeland near
Dresden. Services were held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 2
at Gallimore Funeral Home with Bro. Bob Copeland and Bro.
Gerry Gallimore officiating. Burial was in Lebanon
Cemetery near Dresden.
Mrs. Sanders was born July 10, 1919 to the late Ora Mae
and Robert I. Darby. She was a homemaker and retired from
Martin Manufacturing Company. She was a member of the
Hodges Chapel Baptist Church.
A brother, Lonzo Darby and a son-in-law preceded her in
death.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Robert M.
Sanders; three daughters, Shirley Copeland, Jimmie Gail
Parham and Jean Mitchell, all of Dresden; two sisters,
Jessie Hamilton and Pauline Julian of Gleason; a brother,
Edward Darby of Camden; six grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Jessica Lynn Noles
HUNTINGDON: Miss Jessica Lynn Noles, 18, died
Thursday, May 30 at the Lexington Methodist Hospital in
Lexington from injuries she received in an automobile
accident. Memorial services were conducted on Sunday, June
2 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro.
Terry Poole officiating.
Miss Noles was born July 21, 1983 in Melrose Park,
Illinois. She graduated from Huntingdon High School in May
2001 and was a student at the Lexington Vocational School.
Survivors include her mother, Diana Liedke of Huntingdon;
her father, Dennis Noles of McKenzie; her maternal
grandmother, Henrietta Liedke of Brooksville, Florida; one
sister, Jennifer Chesser of McKenzie; one brother, Joshua
Noles of Huntingdon and two nieces.
Olivia Beville Chandler
MCKENZIE: Services for Olivia Beville Chandler, 86,
will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 5 at Brummitt
Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mrs. Chandler died Monday morning, June 3 at Oak Manor
Healthcare Center in McKenzie.
She was born January 8, 1916 in McKenzie to the late
Callie McCord Beville and George W. Beville. She was a
member of the McLemoresville First United Methodist
Church.
Survivors include her husband, Rodney Chandler; a son,
Randall Chandler of Germantown; a stepdaughter, Karen
Allen of McKenzie; a stepson, Gary Chandler of McKenzie;
four grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren. A
son, Reichle Chandler preceded her in death.
Williard Edward "Jack" Mebane
JACKSON: Funeral services for Willard Edward "Jack"
Mebane, 84, were held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 4 at the
North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. Burial was in
Ridgecrest Cemetery.
Mr. Mebane, a self-employed carpenter, died Sunday, June 2
at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. He was born on
October 3, 1913 in McKenzie, the son of the late Arvil and
Eula Mae Mann Mebane. He was a member of the Campbell
Street Church of Christ and a World War II veteran.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Louise Cranford
Mebane; a daughter, Paulette Pentecost of Bellevue,
Nebraska; one son, Kenneth Mebane of Jackson and one
grandson.
Carolyn Kemp
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Carolyn Kemp, 88, widow of Clovis
Howard Kemp, a Methodist minister, died Monday, June 3 at
Methodist Hospital North in Memphis. Two children survive,
Jane McCoy of Huntingdon and Howard Kemp of McCall, Idaho.
