Ray White
1920-2002
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Ray White, 82, died on Friday,
November 8 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral
services were conducted on Sunday, November 10 at 2:00
p.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brothers
Bill Goodpasture and Bob White officiating. Interment
followed in the Long Rock Cemetery.Mr. White, the son
of the late Will and Minnie Merritt White, was born May
10, 1020 in Carroll County. He was a retired farmer and
served as property assessor of Carroll County for 16
years. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, a member
of the VFW, American Legion and was a member of the
Carroll County Democrat Executive Committee. He was a
past member of the Huntingdon Rotary Club, a member of
the State of Tennessee Equalization Board and the State
of Tennessee Property Assessors Association. He was a
member of the Twin Oaks Church of Christ. A sister,
Madaline Anderson and two brothers, Waldon White and Tom
White, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Rumley
White, a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Rickey
Wilson of Huntingdon; two sons and a daughter-in-law,
Jimmy White of McKenzie and Jerry and Brenda White of
Huntingdon; three brothers, Bill White of Dresden, Jamie
White of Huntingdon and Weldon White of Lowell, Indiana.
He also leaves a very special niece, Diana Skelton;
seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers who served were his grandchildren, Jeff
and Melissa White, Jennifer and Bobby Sellers, Timmy
White, Josh and Melanie White, Clint Wilson, Katy Wilson
and Hayden White. Honorary pallbearers who served were
Ernest Douglas, Poker Pearson, Dr. Jerry Atkins, Peggy
Brandon, Joyce Sullivan, Bessie Mae Phillips, Sylvia
Cary and R.C. Wilson.
Ollie L. Hill
1937-2002
MCKENZIE: Services for Ollie L. Hill, 64, were at
2:00 p.m., Friday, November 1 at Union Academy Baptist
Church with Bro. Bobby Campbell and Bro. Paul Merwin
officiating. Burial was in the Union Academy Church
Cemetery.
Mr. Hill, a mechanic at Milan Arsenal, died on
Tuesday, October 29. He was born December 28, 1937 in
Athens, Alabama to the late Fred Hill and Edith Canup
Hill. He was a member of the Union Academy Baptist
Church.
urvivors include his wife, Katie Crocker Hill; a
daughter, Brenda Stevens of Lexington; one son, Kevin
Hill of McKenzie; three sisters, Betty Zane Cowart, and
Birdie Lanier, both of Hazel Green, Alabama and Bertha
Mae Bridgeman of Unionville, Missouri; three
grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Brummitt Funeral
Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Herbert Maurice Baskin
1931-2002
BRIGHTON: Services for Herbert Maurice Baskin, 71,
were at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 7 at Munford
Funeral Home in Munford. Burial was in Helen Crigger
Cemetery.
Mr. Baskin, formerly of McKenzie, died Tuesday,
November 5 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was a farmer and a member of Wright’s Chapel
Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Baskin Sanders
of Burlison; a son, Kenneth Baskin of McKenzie; two
sisters Patsy Wilkins of Brighton and Jody Farmer of
Atoka; two brothers Douglas Baskin and Billy Baskin both
of Brighton; six grandchildren and three
great-great-grandchildren.
Mary Agnes Deaton
1916-2002
GLEASON: Services for Mary Agnes Deaton, 86, were at
2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 9 at Gallimore Funeral
Home with Donald Doster and Don Bowlin officiating.
Burial was in New Valley Cemetery.
Mrs. Deaton died on Thursday, November 7 at Methodist
LeBonheur Healthcare in Jackson. She was born September
12, 1916 in Como to the late Robert Ellis and Ruthie
Harper Ellis. She was a member of the Union Grove
Baptist Church.
Survivors include six daughters, Aleene Vickers of
Gleason, Joy Lewis of Greenfield, Dorothy Burlison of
New Johnsonville, Reba Gallimore of Dresden and Brooksie
Owen and Patsy Lovell, both of McKenzie; a son, Freddie
Deaton of Dyersburg; a sister, Lois Johnson of Gleason,
28 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and three
great-great grandchildren.
Her husband, Bryant Deaton and a son, David Deaton,
preceded her in death.
James Arthur Bush
1919-2002
MCKENZIE: Services for James Arthur Bush, 83, were
at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 9 at Brummitt Funeral
Home with Bro. Vance Rushing and Bro. Robert Simmons
officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Bush died Thursday, November 7 at Methodist
Hospital.
He was born July 13, 1919 in Huntingdon to the late
Irene Thomason Bush and Jasper Bush. He was a member of
the Bethel Baptist Church and the American Legion of
Gleason.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Scott Bush of
McKenzie; three sons Shane Garner of McKenzie and Jimmy
and Timothy Bush, both of Huntingdon; one sister, Wilma
May Simmons of Huntingdon; and five grandchildren.
Loyce Butler
1924-2002
BRUCETON: Services for Loyce Butler, 78, were at
2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 12 at Bruceton Funeral Home
Chapel with the Rev. Billy Joe Hilliard officiating.
Norman Hillard gave the eulogy. Burial was in Prospect
Cemetery.
Mrs. Butler, a retired seamstress, died Saturday,
November 9 at Baptist Hospital in Huntingdon. She was
born October 3, 1924 in Hickman, Kentucky to the late
Gilbert Burns Goodman and Ethel Veiler Abbott Goodman.
Survivors include a daughter, Gina Pierce of
Bruceton; a sister, Jewell Moore of Bruceton; and three
grandchildren. Her husband, Warren Green Butler,
preceded her in death.
Leigh Anne Henderson
1957-2002
HERNANDO, MISSISSIPPI: Services for Leigh Anne
Henderson, 45, were at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 6
at Hernando Funeral Home in Hernando, Mississippi.
Burial was in Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery in
McKenzie at 1:30, Thursday, November 7.
Mrs. Henderson, scheduling coordinator for Sheraton
Casino, died Monday, November 4 at Baptist Desota
Hospital in Southaven, Mississippi.
She was born April 26, 1957 in Jackson. She was a
graduate of the University of Memphis.
Survivors include her husband, Timothy Dale
Henderson; her mother, Mary Jane Martin of McKenzie; a
son, Kenneth Bryan Pleasants of Denver, Colorado; two
sisters, Lynn White of Tampa, Florida and Lisa Wagner of
Uvalve, Texas; and a brother, Kirk Martin of Memphis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the
American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
Her father, Kenneth K. Martin, Jr., preceded her in
death.
Robert M. Sanders
1916-2002
DRESDEN: Services for Robert M. Sanders, 86, were at
Gallimore Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday,
October 31 with Rev. Bob Copeland and Rev. Gerry
Gallimore officiating. Burial was in Lebanon Cemetery.
Mr. Sanders, retired foreman for Borel Brick Company,
died on Tuesday, October 29 at Methodist Volunteer
Hospital in Martin.
Mr. Sanders was born June 30, 1916 in Centerville to the
late Thomas Alec and Sarah Frances Elizabeth Arrington
Sanders. His wife, Erleene Sanders also preceded him in
death.
Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Copeland,
Jimmie Gail Parham and Jean Mitchell, all of Dresden;
one brother, Jimmy Sanders of Gleason; four sister,
Lessie Long, Gleason, Mattie McCaslin and Kathryn McCoy,
both of Cedar Grove and Elease Williams of Oakfield; six
grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild.
Owean Louise Cox Williams
HOLLOW ROCK: Services for Owean Louise Cox Williams
were at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 8 at Mt. Pisgah
A.M.E. Church with burial in Nebo-Pisgah Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams died on Monday, November 4 at Methodist
Hospital in Sugarland, Texas.
Survivors include her husband, Charles L. Williams;
two daughters, Shari Clarke of Lincoln, Nebraska and Kim
Williams Hill of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren and
several cousins and family friends.
Trinity Funeral Home in Paris was in charge of the
arrangements.
Justeen Marie Bryant
1923-2002
TREZEVANT: Services for Justeen Marie Bryant, 79,
were at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 12 at Brummitt
Funeral Home in Trezevant with Bro. Lee Scott
officiating. Burial was in Trezevant Cemetery.
Mrs. Bryant, retired owner of the Trezevant Dime
Store, died on Saturday, November 9 at Methodist
Hospital in McKenzie.
She was born August 5, 1923 in Huntingdon. She was a
member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in
Trezevant and a volunteer for Baptist Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Murry Bryant and
several nieces and nephews.
Sarah Glover Williams
1934-2002
ATWOOD: Services for Sarah Glover Williams, 68, were
at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 12 at Bodkin Funeral
Home in Milan with the Reverends Thomas Barber and Tony
Latham officiating. Burial was in the Howse Baptist
Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams, retired employee of HIS in Bruceton,
died on Thursday, November 7 at Oak Manor Health Care
Center in McKenzie.
She was born July 4, 1934 in Atwood to the late
William Clayton Glover and Cora Inez Taylor Glover. She
was a member of the Howse Baptist Church in Atwood.
Survivors include a son, Joe Williams of Atwood; a
daughter, Pat Featherston of McKenzie; a brother, Joe T.
Glover of Atwood and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Howse Baptist Church in
Atwood.
Her husband, Joe Ed Williams, preceded her in death.
Henry S. Goodwin
1939-2002
ATWOOD: Services for Henry S. Goodwin, 63, were held
at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 12 at First Baptist
Church in Atwood. Burial was in Pisgah Cemetery. Bodkin
Funeral Home of Milan was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Goodwin, a retired businessman, died Saturday,
November 9 at his residence.
Mr. Goodwin was a member of the First Baptist Church
in Atwood where he was a deacon. He was also a U.S. Navy
veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Goodwin of Atwood;
three daughters, Debbie Mauldin of Atwood, Kim McCormack
of Jackson and Christi Ray of Bardwell, KY; a son, Greg
Goodwin of Atwood; two sisters, Bonita Stewart of Atwood
and Ima Green of Michigan; one brother, Harry Goodwin of
Alexandria, Virginia and eight grandchildren.
Laqueeta Annette Forsythe
1937-2002
HALLS: Services for Laqueeta Annette Forsythe, 65,
will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 13 at the
Halls Funeral Home. Burial will be in Archers Chapel
Cemetery near Halls.
Mrs. Forsythe, former operator of Country Cooking
Truck Stop & Restaurant in McLemoresville, died from
injuries sustained in a tornado on Saturday, November
10.
Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Springer and
Helen Ann Bushart, both of Huntingdon; four sons, Ricky
Forsythe, Neil Forsythe and Jason Forsythe, all of
Huntingdon and Barry Forsythe of McLemoresville; three
sisters, Barbara Warren and Ernestine Mattair, both of
McKenzie and Nancy Burns of Memphis; twelve
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Carolyn Jean Brown
1942-2002
BRUCETON: Carolyn Jean Brown, 60, died on Friday,
November 8 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. Services
were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 11 at Ridgeway
Funeral Home with Steve Whitworth officiating. Burial
was in the New Hope Methodist Church Cemetery at Hollow
Rock.
Born in Hollow Rock on February 1, 1942, she was the
daughter of Martin and Emmer Mae Kirk Ford, both
deceased.
She was married November 9, 1957 to Bobby Brown who
survives.
Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and a member of the Hollow
Rock Methodist Church, Tennessee Democratic Women and
Carroll County Democratic Women.
She was a Native American Cherokee Indian of the Wolf
Clan. She also served on the Carroll County Executive
Board.
Survivors include one daughter, Rhonda Crawford of
Mansfield; one son, Robert L. Brown of Hollow Rock; one
sister, Shirley Delaney of North Hollywood, California;
one brother, Larry Ford of Bruceton; two grandchildren
and one great-grandchild. |
