Cordell “Hoss” Cole
1920-2002
CAMDEN: Services for Cordell “Hoss” Cole, 82, were
held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 30 at Bruceton
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Whitworth
officiating. Burial was in the Hollow Rock Primitive
Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Cole, a retired truck diver for Red Ball, died on
Monday, October 28 at the Jackson-Madison County General
Hospital.
He was born October 24, 1920 in Benton County to the
late William Hobart Cole and Leola Mae Park Cole. His
wife, Dee Cole, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Nutting of
McKenzie, a son, Jim Cole of Camden, three grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren.Susan Carr McDonald
MEMPHIS: Services for Susan Car McDonald were at
11:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 29 at Forest Hill Funeral
Home in Memphis.
Mrs. McDonald, a former schoolteacher, died Saturday,
October 26 at her home in Memphis.
Survivors include her husband, Stanley McDonald
(formerly of McKenzie); sons Matt and Tyler McDonald,
her mother, one sister and one brother.
Ollie L. Hill
1937-2002
MCKENZIE: Services for Ollie L. Hill, 64, were at
2:00 p.m., Friday, November 1 at Union Academy Baptist
Church with Bro. Bobby Campbell and Bro. Paul Merwin
officiating. Burial was n the Union Academy Church
Cemetery.
Mr. Hill, a mechanic at Milan Arsenal, died on Tuesday,
October 29.
He was born December 28, 1937 in Athens, Alabama to the
late Fred Hill and Edith Kanup Hill. He was a member of
the Union Academy Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Katie Crocker Hill; a
daughter, Brenda Stevens of Lexington, Kentucky; one
son, Kevin Hill of McKenzie; three sisters, Beth Cowart
of Hazel Green, Alabama, Birdie Lanier and Bertha Mae
Bridgeman, both of Unionville, Missouri and one
grandchild.
Brummitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Elizabeth Faith Arnold
2002
Elizabeth Faith Arnold, two-month-old, died on Monday,
November 2 at Methodist Lebohner in Memphis. Funeral
services were conducted at three p.m., Monday, November
4 at Brummitt Funeral Home in McKenzie with burial in
Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Ms. Arnold, the infant daughter of Shane and Chondra
Hardwick Arnold, was born on August 12, 2002 in Memphis.
Survivors include her parents, one half-sister, Ashland
Faye Arnold of McKenzie; one half brother, Justin
Haddakin of Dresden; one brother, Dallas Austin Arnold
of McKenzie; grandparents Robert and Linda Garner of
Gleason, Andrew Arnold of Martin, Marvin and Leslie
Berryman of California; great-grandparents Virginia Faye
Duckworth of McKenzie and Ward Arnold of McKenzie one
aunt and two uncles.
William Henry Arnold
1938-2002
CEDAR GROVE: William Henry Arnold, 64, retired
commander of the Memphis Police Department, died on
Wednesday, October 30 at Jackson-Madison County General
Hospital. Services were held at 11:00 a.m., Friday,
November 1 at Bodkin Funeral Home in Milan with burial
in Pisgah Cemetery in Atwood.
He was born October 18, 1939 to the late Alonzo and
Ollie B. Arnold. He was a member of the McLemoresville
Baptist Church, Memphis Police Association and Fraternal
Order of the Police.
Survivors include his wife, Polly Arnold, three
daughters, Landa Ballard and Alane Thompson, both of
Cedar Grove and Dena Simko of McLemoresville; a son,
Cliff Arnold of Cedar Grove; a brother, Floyd Alonzo
Arnold, Jr. of Bonneville, Illinois and seven
grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be sent to
McLemoresville Baptist Church Building Fund.
Carolyn Jane Brandon
1941-2002
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Carolyn Jane Brandon, 61, died on
Thursday, October 31 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, November 2
at 2:00 p.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with
Brother Lloyd Ray Rich and Brother Earlie G. Lassater
officiating. Interment followed at Liberty All Cemetery.
Mrs. Brandon was born on August 29, 1941 in Carroll
County to the late Benjamin Franklin and Jessie Lorene
Wilson Crews. She was a nurse’s aide at Oak Manor and a
member of the Tates Pentecostal Church. A sister,
Dorothy Jean Bolton; two brothers, Robert Franklin Crews
and Raymond Earl Crews and a granddaughter, Jodie Marie
Smith, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Ray Brandon; two
daughters, Sandra Hudgins and Melinda Carter, both of
Huntingdon; one son, Kevin Smith of Gleason; two
sisters, Sarah Ann Wallace of McKenzie and Wanda Harris
of Alcoa; seven grandchildren and one
great-granddaughter.
Pauline Rushing
1947-2002
ARLINGTON: Services for Pauline Rushing, 55, were at
1:00 p.m., Friday, November 1 at Stockdale-Malin Chapel
Funeral Home in Camden with Bro. Jerry Dodd officiating.
Burial was in Rushing Creek Cemetery.
Miss Rushing died on Thursday, October 31 at Arlington
Developmental Center.
She was born August 26, 1947 in Benton County to Morris
Rushing and Flora Hale Rushing.
Survivors include six sisters, Shirley Johnson of
Holladay, Carolyn Jo Sego of Jackson, Barbara Decker of
Henry, Safronia Rufsholm of Clarksbville, Jean Sellers
of McKenzie and Jane French of Paris; two brothers, Ray
Rushing of Paris and Richard Rushing of Camden.
Two brothers, Larry and Clyde Rushing preceded her in
death.
Bessie Britt Ward
1931-2002
ADAMSVILLE: Services for Bessie Britt Ward, 69, were
at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 30 at Shackelford
Adamsville Chapel in Adamsville. The body was cremated.
Mrs. Ward, a retired sewing machine operator for Harwood
in Adamsville, died at Methodist Healthcare in Selmer on
Sunday, October 27.
Survivors include a daughter, Dianne Ross of Adamsville;
a son, Robert A. Forbess of McKenzie; a sister, Rachel
Pickett of Huntingdon; two brothers, Leo Britt of
Huntingdon and Robert Britt of Dickson; seven
grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Douglas Edward Ward preceded her in death.
Mildred D. Byrd
1921-2002
GLEASON: Services for Mildred D. Byrd, 80, were at
2:00 p.m., Friday, November 1 at Gallimore Funeral Home,
with Rev. Dale Mathis and Bro. John Wilson officiating.
Burial was in New Valley Cemetery.
Mrs. Byrd, a retired cafeteria worker for the Gleason
School, died Wednesday, October 30 at Jackson-Madison
General Hospital. She was a member of El Bethel
Methodist Church.
She was born November 30, 1921 in Gleason to the late
James Albert and Malicia Anna Lee Trevethan Marsh. Her
husband, Carl Byrd also preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Clark of Gleason
and two sons, Russell Byrd of McKenzie and Kenneth Byrd
of Gleason; and one grandchild.
Lucille Cochran Smyth
1910-2002
GLEASON: Services for Lucille Cochran Smyth, 92,
retired drug store owner, will be Wednesday, November 6
at 2:00 p.m. at the Gleason First Baptist Church, with
Rev. Raymond Carneal officiating. Burial will be in
Hopewell Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith died on Monday, November 4 at her home. Her
husband, Robert Vernon Smyth, preceded her in death.
She was born on January 24, 1910 in Greenfield to the
late Charles Elmer and Eva Mary Mitchell Cochran. She
was a member of the Gleason First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Bobbye Robison of Gleason;
a son, Robert Smyth of Nashville and three
grandchildren.
Gallimore Funeral Home will be charge of the
