Edgar Alton "Eddie" Pratt
1950-2002
ANTIOCH: Mr. Edgar Alton "Eddie" Pruitt, 52, died
Saturday, October 19 at his home. Funeral services were
conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 22 in the Dilday
Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Rufus Chandler
officiating. Interment followed in the Chapel Hill
Cemetery.
Mr. Pruitt was born May 27, 1950 to the late Guy
Randolph and Mildred Sue Gean Pruitt in Carroll County.
He was an employee of the VA Medical Center. A brother,
Johnny Pruitt, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta Scott Pruitt; three
daughters, Judy Pruitt, Linda Warren and Kimberly
Divilbiss, all of Antioch; three sons, Stephen Richards
of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Dennis Pruitt and Kendall
Pruitt, both of Antioch; one sister, Wanda Kirksey of
Huntingdon; two brothers, Don Rex Pruitt of Huntingdon
and Gary Pruitt of Georgia and seven grandchildren.
Elizabeth Burroughs
MCKENZIE: Mrs. Elizabeth Burroughs died Monday,
October 21 at Methodist Hospital of McKenzie. Visitation
will be at Brummitt Funeral Home, McKenzie from
5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening. The body will lie in
state at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church on
Highland Avenue, McKenzie from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00
a.m. funeral on October 23. Dr. Robert Prosser, Dr. John
David Hall, Rev. Robert Hull and Dr. Tony Janner will
officiate the service.
Mrs. Burroughs, the former Alumni Records Clerk at
Bethel College, was an ordained elder in the First
Cumberland Presbyterian Church of McKenzie, where she
also taught the Encounter Sunday School Class for many
years. Born in Petersburg, she was a graduate of Morgan
Preparatory School. She was a member of the Inglenook
Book Club, co-founder of the Morning Glory Garden Club
and a charter honorary member of Alpha Phi Sigma
Sorority at Bethel College. In 1994, she received the
Alumni Service Award from Bethel College and in 2001
was, along with her husband, Raymon, the recipient of
the Patron of Clergy award from the Cumberland
Presbyterian denomination. She was honored last spring
with the naming of the Elizabeth Burroughs Walkway in
the Bethel College Memorial Garden.
Mrs. Burroughs is survived by her daughter, Judith
Burroughs Keith, her son-in-law, J. B. Keith and two
grandsons, Adam Keith and Micolas Keith. Her husband,
Dr. Raymon Burroughs, preceded her in death. In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be sent to Bethel College or the
Cumberland Presbyterian Children's Home.
Ethel "Mammy" Gray Hampton
1908-2002
MCKENZIE: Services for Ethel "Mammy" Gray Hampton,
93, were at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 22 at Brummitt
Funeral Home with J.D. Abbott and Bro. Dennis Beal
officiating. Burial was in Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Hampton, widow of Albert Hampton, died on Sunday,
October 20 at Methodist Hospital in McKenzie.
She was born on December 7, 1908 in Holladay to the late
Judy Ann Flowers Ellis and John W. Ellis. She was a
member of Victory Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Alta Mae Eubanks of
McKenzie; two sons, Duel Hampton of McKenzie and Hulon
Hampton of Huntingdon; two sisters, Evie Green and Annie
Robinson, both of Huntingdon; three grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
A sister, Lillie Clark and four brothers, Levie Ellis,
Roy Ellis, Grover Ellis and Edmond Ellis preceded her in
death.
Mary Ethel Jackson
1919-2002
PARIS: Services for Mary Ethel Jackson, 84, will be
held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25 in the LeDon
Chapel, Ridgeway Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Merwin and
Rev. David Varner officiating. Interment will be in the
New Valley Cemetery in Gleason. Visitation will be from
4:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 24 and after 10:00
a.m. on Friday, October 25.
Mrs. Jackson was the owner and operator of Ethel's Bar
for 31 years and a member of the Gleason Baptist Church.
She was born June 6, 1919 in Paris to the late Jessie
Ann Helms Dunn and Other H. Dunn. Her husband, Ollie
Burl Jackson, who died on January 21, 1974 three
sisters, Nora Sway, Idella Summers and Ruby Kirk and
three brothers, William Dunn, James Austin Dunn and
Thomas Dunn (in infancy) preceded her in death.
Survivors include four nephews and one niece.
Leland Clyde Payton
1928-2002
CAMDEN: Services for Leland Clyde Payton, 74, will
be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 24 at Bruceton
Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Speaks Cemetery
in Louisville, Illinois. The body was cremated.
Mr. Payton, a farmer, died on Thursday, October 11 at
his residence.
He was born February 7, 1928 in Clay County, Illinois to
the late William Elmer and Sophia Erwib Payton.
He leaves a nephew, Issac Pedigo of Clinton, Illinois.
Frances P. Gee
1922-2002
FULTON, KENTUCKY: Services for Frances P. Gee, 80,
formerly of Union City, were held at 1:00 p.m., Friday,
October 18 at Hornbeak Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.
Michael Farmer officiating. Burial was in Clark Cemetery
in Hickman County, Kentucky.
Mrs. Gee was a member of the Lake Road Baptist Church in
Union City and the VFW Women's Auxilliary in Milan. She
was retired from the Milan Army Ammunition Plant in
Milan.
She was born on July 14, 1922 in Truman, Arkansas to the
late Era Stovall and Oscar Bain. Two brothers and one
sister also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Frances R. "Bobbie"
Elliott of Crutchfield, Kentucky; two sons, Richard A.
Gee of Port Orange, Florida and Ralph S. Gee of Dover;
10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandson.
James B. "Mickey" Mitchell
1939-2002
CARUTHERSVILLE, MISSOURI: Former Henry Countian
James B. "Mickey" Mitchell, 63, died on Thursday,
October 10 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. He was
the retired owner and operator of Cast Iron Welding Co.
in Henry.
Locally, he leaves a daughter, Bonnie Jodie Waldrup of
Henry.
Services were at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 13 at H.S.
Smith Funeral Home in Caruthersville. Burial followed in
Maple Cemetery.
According to information given in "The Commercial
Appeal" in Memphis, Mr. Mitchell also leaves one other
daughter, Rusty Lynn Deschappell of Clarksville; three
sons, James L. Mitchell of Huntingdon, Dennis Ray
Mitchell of Lexington and Christopher Bernard Mitchell
of Clarksville; one sister, Jean Baxter of
Caruthersville and seven grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be sent to the
American Cancer Society.
Etta Lee Henry
1922-2002
GREENFIELD: Services for Mrs. Etta Lee Sexton Henry,
80, were at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 20 at the Curry
Funeral Home Chapel in Dyersburg with Brother Barry
Capps officiating. Burial was in Newhaven Cemetery in
Ridgely.
Mrs. Henry, a retired owner/operator of a grocery store,
died on Friday, October 18, at her residence. She, widow
of Ernest E. Henry, was a member of Sidonia Missionary
Baptist Church. One son, Jerry Don Henry, also preceded
her in death.
She was born on July 7, 1922 in Decaturville.
Survivors include one daughter, Lois Williams of
Jackson, two sons, Dal Henry of McKenzie and Danny Henry
of Greenfield; nine grandchildren; and 19
great-grandchildren.
Anthony John Whyte
1975-2002
BENTON, KENTUCKY: Anthony John Whyte, 27, died at
1:00 a.m., Friday, October 18 at his home. He was a
construction worker.
Survivors include his wife, Lucinda Josephine Bivin
Whyte, his mother, Bonnie Ann Checchi Caplinger, both of
Benton, Kentucky; his father, James M. Caplinger of
Bruceton; two stepsons, Justin Lee Wood and Jeremiah
Wood, both of Benton; two brothers, Howard Thomas Whyte,
III and Bradley Charles Whyte, both of Benton; and three
sisters, Loretta Diane Blair of Hollywood, Florida,
Meriah Gutterson of Orlando, California and Jessica Raye
McGowan of Benton.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October
21 at Filbeck Cann & King Funeral Home with Dr. J.T.
Parish and Mr. Robert Mitchell officiating. Burial
followed in Bondurant Cemetery.
Iva Lee Traywick Lankford
1909-2002
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Iva Lee Traywick Lankford, 93, died
on Thursday, October 17 at the Methodist Hospital in
McKenzie. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday,
October 19 at 2:00 p.m. in the Long Rock United
Methodist Church with Dr. Jon Carlock, Dr. Robert
Prosser and Steve Todd officiating. Interment followed
in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Lankford was born September 28, 1909 in Carroll
County to the late Osper and Ader Evans Traywick. She
was a retired employee of Publix Shirt Corp. and a
member of the Long Rock United Methodist Church. Her
husband, Claudie Lankford; two sister, Ollie Neely and
Beulah Williams and one brother, Russell Traywick,
preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, David Henry Lankford of
McKenzie and James Edward Lankford of Huntingdon; two
grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Lola Dill
1909-2002
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Lola Dill, 93, died on Monday,
October 14 at her home. Funeral services were conducted
on Thursday, October 17 at 2:00 p.m. at the Huntingdon
First Baptist Church with Brother Fred Ward and Brother
George Hill officiating. Interment followed at Carroll
Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Dill was born June 15, 1909 in Carroll County to
the late Charlie and Audrey Kee Johnson. She was a
homemaker and a member of the Huntingdon First Baptist
Church. Her husband, Hurchel Dill, who passed away on
October 16, 1981; one daughter, Gracie L. Robinson and a
sister, Lorene Townsend, preceded her in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Raymell Arrington of
Huntingdon, Betty Norton of Hampton, Georgia and Linda
Walker of Florence, Kentucky; two sons, William "Bill"
Dill and Roy Gene Dill, both of Huntingdon; one sister,
Jewel Woodard of Camden; eleven grandchildren and
fifteen great-grandchildren.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Dr. Jim Williams
1918-2002
MILAN: Dr. Jim Williams, 84, died on Monday, October
21 at the Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville,
Indiana. Services will be held on Saturday, October 26
at 10:00 a.m. at Bodkin Funeral Home in Milan with Dr.
Roy Hall officiating. Burial will take place in Mt.
Olivet Cemetery in McKenzie.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Williams of Tarpon
Springs, Florida and Dr. Hillsman Williams of
Lewisville, Kentucky; two brothers, Dr. Phillip Williams
of Milan and Joe Williams of McKenzie; one sister, Mary
Margaret Joyce of Milan and three grandchildren.
Willie "Bill" Floyd Heath
1902-2002
GLEASON: Services for Willie "Bill" Floyd Heath,
100, will be at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 23 at
Gallimore Funeral Home with Rev. Don Bullock
officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Heath, a retired merchandiser/salesman, died on
Monday, October 21 at McKenzie Health Care Center.
He was born on August 28, 1902 to the late Harmon and
Lillie Jones Heath. His wife, Edna M. Heath also
preceded him in death. He was a member of Gleason First
Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Suzanne Heath Russell of
McKenzie, two step grandchildren and four step
great-grandchildren. |
