SCHOOL NEWS FOR WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 25, 2002 

McKenzie Elementary Students Enjoy Christmas Sing-a-long
   
McKenzie Elementary students enjoyed a Christmas Sing-a-long directed by Mrs. Pat Forgy on Friday morning, December 20 just before going home for a long Christmas break.

The Sing-a-long featured Elizabeth Wallace singing "Blue Christmas"; Brayton Edlin and Tyler Sisson jamming to "Santa Clause is Watching You"; Michael Keenon, Juan Calderon, Jacob Eaton and Grant Lowrance as David Seville and The Chipmunks singing "The Chipmunk Song"; Savannah Kincaid and Drake Cunningham leading "Rudolph the Red-nose Reindeer"; and Ishmael Hernandez, Cody Jackson, Shane Nunnery, Lisa Attebury, Matt Thomas, Chelsea Mattox, and Meagan Hickman breaking down to "Rap the Halls". The Rebel Singers contributed five numbers to the event, with Ashlee Hampton swinging to "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree; Ashley Balius crooning "I'll be Home for Christmas; and Conor Scruton singing "Away in a Manager", and a group performance of Jingle Bell Rock and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

Students also enjoyed the dancing and festive antics of the emcee, Santa Claus, and joined in singing a number of Christmas favorites before returning to their classes for special treats.
 
 
     
  McKenzie Junior Beta Club Sponsors Christmas Program  
    
The McKenzie Junior Beta Club sponsored the annual Christmas program at the middle school Thursday morning, December 19.

The program included readings about Christmas traditions around the world, vocal ensembles, tone chimes, 8th grade guitarists , and band performances. Vocal presentations were performed by Lauren Purtteman, Allison Owen, Elizabeth Oliver, and Kelsey
Cooper. Readings were presented by Nathan Masulo, Lauren Morris, Elizabeth Russell, Lauren Perritt, Alex Masulo, Alicia Moore, Hannah Scruton, Ryan Ferrell, and Harris Laughrey.
 

 
     
  Area Students Named to All West Tennessee Bands  
 
  
McKenzie, Huntingdon and West Carroll bands all have members who auditioned and were selected as members of the 2002 All West Tennessee Honor Bands. Over 1200 students from across the area including Memphis, auditioned at Union City High School recently hoping to be part of these prestigious bands.

On the senior high level (grades 10-12), the following MHS students were selected: Percussion (100 auditioning with 18 selected ) Matthew Holt, 6th chair, Wind Ensemble; tuba (60 auditioning with 12 being selected) Chase Barton, 6th chair, Blue Band; Clarinets (150 auditioning with 45 being selected) Rebekah Cooper, 21st chair, Red Band.

At the Junior High level (grades 7-9) out of 140 trumpets auditioning with 45 being selected, MHS freshman David Deaton was selected as 5th chair, Red Band.

From Huntingdon, Curtis Gibson was selected as second chair on Tuba in the Red Band, Merrilee Vickers was selected as 13th chair, trumpet in the red band, both at the high school level. At the junior high level, Kaitlin Autry was second chair trumpet in the Gold Band and Bradley Churchwell was first chair, trombone in the Red Band.

West Carroll’s Brandon Thomas and Daniel Howell were selected to represent their school. Thomas was chosen for clarinet, Blue Band, 13th chair, All West Concert Band and Howell was chosen for trumpet, third chair in the Red Band, All West Tennessee Jazz Band.

These students will be traveling to Jackson at the end of February to rehearse with other selected musicians from West Tennessee to perform a public concert on the campus of Jackson Central Merry. Congratulations to all of these musicians for their hard work and gaining recognition as some of the best on their individual instruments.
