McKenzie's Lady Rebels hosted a pair of games with
Humboldt's Lady Vikings last week at McKenzie Recreation
Park and picked up victories in both. In the opening game,
Summer Poff gained the victory as she struck out two
batters and gained a single, which ultimately scored the
single run victory. After both teams failed to score in
the first inning, Poff led off with a single in the second
inning and after Amanda Rogers and Brittany Russell walked
to load the bases, Brittany Carpenter also walked to score
the winning run. Angie Birdwell also singled while Whitney
Townes doubled in the 1-0 victory. Poff is now 5-3 for the
season.
In the afternoon's second game, Brittany Carpenter
began the game and struck out six Lady Vikings in a 6-0
game with Rachael Clark coming in to pitch the final two
innings in relief. Clark gave up two hits and struck out
two batters. In the top of the first inning (as the Lady
Rebels took the visitor's side of the scoreboard),
Carpenter led off with a single and Kristin Wiggins and
Becky Toombs walked to load the bases. Townes came to bat
and hit a grand slam to give McKenzie a 4-0 lead. The
final two runs came in the top of the third inning as both
Wiggins and Toombs singled and ultimately scored. Amanda
Rogers hit a single with two out. Brittani Esch and Angie
Birdwell also singled in the five-inning game.
Earlier in the week, Poff took the loss against Waverly
as the Lady Rebels lost a heartbreaker 2-1. Wiggins had a
double and a single while Toombs had a pair of singles and
Birdwell and Russell each had a single. Birdwell scored
the single run in the top of the sixth on Toombs' second
single of the day. Poff struck out four batters in the
loss while giving up six hits.
