Outcasts Win June Tournaments

Cagle's Outcasts, which includes Ashley Stafford of McLemoresville, Sara McGowan of Lavinia and Ruth Forrest of McLemoresville, won two tournaments during the month of June. The majority of the team consists of the Northside High School team from Jackson.

The 16 and under travel team participated in the Randy Smith Memorial Fast Pitch Softball Tournament and faced tough competition. The St. Louis Marauders were picked the early favorites to win. However, the Outcasts managed to defeat the Marauders three times during tournament action and added the Tullahoma Aces, Lady Blaze and the Indy Tradition from Indianapolis, Indiana to their list of victories. Forrest was named MVP of this tournament and Brandi Belcher, Best Offensive Player. Stafford had a good weekend as she pitched three of the six games and allowed only one run for the weekend. Forrest hit three in the park homeruns. McGowan's bat drove in some of the winning runs which added to the team's success. The games and scores were as follows: Pool Play: 4-0 win over Marauders (Stafford, winner); 10-0 win over the Tullahoma Aces, 3-2 victory over Lady Blaze; Tournament Games: 6-0 win over Indy Tradition (Stafford, winner), 3-0 win over Marauders and in the championship game, Stafford gained a 4-2 victory over the Marauders.

In the College Grove 6th Annual Summer Classic, the Outcasts were undefeated for the tournament, winning all five games. They defeated the Milan Lady Stars in the championship game with a final score of 6-1. Other teams defeated included the Tullahoma Aces and Tuff-E-Nuff. Individual awards were presented to Forrest as Best Defensive Player and Samantha Bridges as Tournament MVP. Stafford picked up a 12-0 victory over the Aces and a 4-2 win over the Lady Stars.

The Lady Stars have five local girls participating on their team. They are Rachel Arnold and Ashley Townsend (named Best Offensive Player in latter tournament) of McLemoresville, Anna Moore of Trezevant and Jessica Carlton and Meagan Rush of Huntingdon.
