The McKenzie Lady Rebels basketball team recently
completed their fourth consecutive year of Basketball at
the Beach. The Ft. Walton Beach, Florida based camp draws
girls basketball teams from across the southern United
States. This year's field included 48 teams. The Lady
Rebels experienced their most successful week of
competition in their four-year history. With only one loss
coming from Murray County, Georgia, the Lady Rebels posted
eight consecutive wins. Included in those victories were
teams from Florida, Alabama, Louisiana and Tennessee. They
also picked up a victory over perennial Tennessee
powerhouse Wayne County. This four-point Lady Rebel
victory highlighted the very successful week of
competition.
Two Lady Rebels were recognized as part of the camps' All
Camp Team. They were Kristin Wiggins and Becky Toombs.
Both were excited about their awards, but quick to not
that the wins this week were team victories. Coach Dan
Ridley stated that it was difficult not to be excited
about this year's team. He said, "With the great
leadership we have, better athleticism and team speed, we
should have a very exciting season." Ridley also said his
greatest excitement comes from how this team plays
together. "They are focused on one thing, winning. They
have set aside individual goals and needs in order for our
team to be successful." Ridley said the team has one
more summer camp to attend. They will be going to Obion
County High School July 12-13. |
