The Huntingdon Fillies gave it everything they had in their final two games of the season. In their championship game with USJ, they came up two points short but played hard and led brief moments in that game. They were also six of seven at the line, giving them every chance of victory. USJ virtually won the game on a buzzer shot by Rachel Cole after the ball was inbounded with nine-tenths of a second remaining.

In the sub-state game with Trenton, the Fillies went on a 17-2 run and led by 10 at intermission. However, a poor scoring effort in the third period and hitting only six of 15 attempts at the line, six in the final quarter, led to a three-point victory for the Lady Tide.

Huntingdon 45-USJ 47

In the Region 7-A championship game, the Fillies came out hitting well and took a 15-10 lead by the end of one over the host Lady Bruins. Lakeah Lockhart hit a three-pointer and two of two at the line to lead with five, followed by Brandi Melton with four, Ashlee Lockhart with a three-pointer, Kodia Tharpe with two and Crystal Fuller with one. The second quarter, the Lady Bruins came out hitting much better and gained their own lead by intermission. L. Lockhart led with a three-pointer while Fuller and Tharpe scored two each. At intermission, USJ led 26-22.

The Fillies came out hitting better in the third and Melton tied the game at the 6:48 mark at 26. The Fillies then managed to go on to lead by five twice before the Lady Bruins charged back to trail by a single point at the end of three. Melton led with nine points, followed by Fuller with four and Tharpe with two of two at the line. After three, Huntingdon led 37-36. The final period, neither team scored very well, but the game came down to a final shot. After Huntingdon took a 43-40 lead at the 5:12 mark, Kimberly Trull hit a three-pointer to tie the game at the 3:41 mark. With only 31 seconds remaining in the game, it was still tied at 43. Courtney Alvey was fouled and went to the line to score two and give the Lady Bruins a two-point advantage. With 5.6 seconds remaining, L. Lockhart hit a short jump shot to tie the game at 45. As the Lady Bruins began to inbound the ball, Bruin Coach Tony Shutes evidently was attempting to call a time-out and although the clock had ticked down to 2.6, five full seconds was placed back on the clock. The Lady Bruins got the ball to their end of the court and call an additional time-out with nine-tenths of a second remaining. The ball was then inbounded to Cole, who shot the ball which hit the rim and then went into the net for the winning shot as the buzzer sounded. Waneca Melton led Huntingdon with four while Fuller and L. Lockhart each scored two. USJ won the game 47-45.

INDIVIDUAL STATISTICS: Brandi Melton 13, Lakeah Lockhart 10, Crystal Fuller 9, Kodia Tharpe 6, Waneca Melton 4, Ashlee Lockhart 3.

At the conclusion of the game, the All Tournament team was named with Brandy Melton and Crystal Fuller named to that team. Also from District 13-A were Kathy Doupis of Hollow Rock-Bruceton, Jessica Murphy of West Carroll and Kendall Dodd of Big Sandy.

Huntingdon 39-Trenton 42

As regional runner-up, the Fillies traveled to Trenton to take on the Trenton Lady Tide as one of the final 16 Class A teams in the state. In first quarter action, the Fillies and Lady Tide scored evenly with the Tide leading by a single point after one full quarter of action. B. Melton led with four while L. Melton, who led with seven points, hit a three-pointer to give the Fillies their first lead of the game, 16-15. After that the Fillies had their 17-2 run and led 28-18 at intermission. Fuller contributed six while W. Melton added four and L. Lockhart scored two.

The second half began well with Tharpe putting the Fillies up by 12, hitting the first basket of the third period. However, from that point, the Lady Tide scored 12 straight points and after three, the game was tied at 30. The final period, B. Melton gave Huntingdon a lead with two of two at the line, with a 32-30 advantage. The game continued to go back and forth, but in the end, the Fillies were unable to hit at the line, missing six of 11 attempts in the final period. B. Melton and Fuller led with four each while L. Lockhart scored one as Trenton won the game, 42-39.
