Earl C. Christopherson
1919-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Earl C. Christopherson, 83,
were at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 17 at Brummitt
Funeral Home with Bro. Harrell Nation officiating. The
body was cremated.
Mr. Christopherson, retired head custodian at Friendship
Junior High in Mt. Prospect, Illinois, died on Sunday,
April 13 at Oak Manor Health Care Center in McKenzie.
He was born on October 13, 1919 in Chicago, Illinois to
the late Alma S. Christopherson and Charles
Christopherson. A sister, Myrtle Gunkel, also preceded
him in death.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and
Disabled American Veterans. He served during World War
II as a Carpenter's Mate 2nd Class with the branch of
the U.S. Navy known as the Seabees, 15th Construction
Battalion.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Morris
Christopherson; twin daughters, Nancy Christopherson of
Houston, Texas and Cathy Gilmore of Olympia, Washington;
one son-in-law, Jim Gilmore and grandchildren Jeron and
Shannon Gilmore, also of Olympia Washington; and one
sister, Pearl Cieslak of Green Valley, Arizona.
Jean Smith
1929-2003
ANTIOCH: Services for Jean Smith, 74, were Thursday,
April 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Gallimore Funeral Home with
Rev. Gene Price officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet
Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith, retired employee of the Department of Human
Services died on Sunday, April 13 at her home.
She was born on January 1, 1929 in Nashville to the late
Benjamin Samuel McElhiney and Lillie Freeman McElhiney.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in
McKenzie.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice Lee McCaleb of
McKenzie; a son, Robert Doug Smith, Jr. of Nashville;
five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Leona Crossett Hammer
1926-2003
ATWOOD: Services for Leona Crossett Hammer, 76, were
at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 21 at Howse Baptist Church
with Dr. Tony Latham officiating. Burial was in the
Pisgah Cemetery.
Mrs. Hammer, a retired ITT Telecommunications employee,
died Thursday, April 17 at her home. She was a charter
member of the Howse Baptist Church. She was also a
member of the Atwood Home Demonstration Club and a
volunteer at Milan General Hospital.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Mathis of
Hockessin, Delaware; a son, Wally Hammer of Jackson; and
two granddaughters.
The family requests memorials be directed to the Howse
Baptist Curch. Bodkin Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.
Stella Alice Hall Wallace
1923-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Alice Hall Wallace, 80, were
at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 22 at Brummitt Funeral Home
with the Revs. Nickey McMinn and James Ray Hayes
officiating. Burial was in the New Bethel Cemetery in
Henry.
Mrs. Wallace died on Saturday, April 19 at McKenzie
Regional Hospita.
She was born January 17, 1923 in Henry County to the
late Flossie Nash Hall and James Hall. She was a member
of the New Bethel Baptist Church in Henry.
Survivors include a son, Hulon Wallace of McKenzie; two
brothers, James Hall of McKenzie and Norman Hall of
Sharon; a sister, Pauline Hall of Como; five
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Her husband, L.C. Wallace preceded her in death.
Wanda Hardin
1952-2003
HOLLOW ROCK: Mrs. Wanda Hardin, 51, died Monday,
April 14 at her home. Funeral services were conducted on
Wednesday, April 16, in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel
with Bro. Joe Abbott and Bro Billy Joe Hilliard
officiating. Interment followed in the Davis Chapel
Cemetery.
Mrs. Hardin was born April 3, 1952 in Huntingdon. She
was a homemaker, a loving and nurturing grandmother and
a member of the Grace Missionary Baptist Church. She was
preceded in death by her father, Hubert Crider; three
brothers, Justin Crider, Joe Crider and Glenn Crider,
one sister, Larue Wafford and two nephews.
Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Thomas
Hardin, her mother, Viola Crider of Hollow Rock; one
son, Thomas Guy Hardin of Camden; five sisters, Mae
Shelby, Dora Dobson, Estelle Glisson, Margie Bridges,
all of Hollow Rock and Kathy Russell of Bruceton; three
brothers, Hubert Crider, Jr., James Harold Crider and
Paul Crider, all of Hollow Rock; and one grandson.
James Issac Hutcherson
1938-2003
HOLLOW ROCK: Mr. James Issac Hutcherson, 64, died on
Tuesday, April 8 of an apparent drowning. Graveside
services were conducted on Monday, April 21 at 3:00 p.m.
at the Archers Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery in
Crockett County with Bro. Danny Hutcherson officiating.
Mr. Hutcherson, the son of the late Issac Willigreen and
Mamie Louise Rogers Hutcherson, was born May 20, 1938.
He was a construction worker and a member of the Archers
Chapel Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Grooms Hutcherson, two
daughters, Vicky Granger of Clarksburg and Janeice
Frisbee of Humboldt; one son, Charles Hutcherson of
Decaturville; one stepdaughter, Amy Thomas of Hollow
Rock; four brothers, Forrest Hutcherson and Danny
Hutcherson, both of Westport, Dalvin Hutcherson of
Huntingdon and Wallace Hutcherson of Nashville and five
grandchildren.

James Randall “Bo” Patterson
1951-2003
CAMDEN: Services for James Randal “Bo” Patterson,
51, were at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 17 at Bruceton
Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Patterson, a cabinet maker for B&B Cabinet Shop,
died Tuesday, April 15 at West Tennessee Transitional
Care.
He was born May 29, 1951 in Hollow Rock to the late
Arthur L. and Minnie Smothers Patterson. He was a member
of the Center Point Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Pam Crouse Patterson; one
daughter, Angie Sullivan of McKenzie; a son, Randall
Patterson of Huntingdon; two sisters, Geneva Bailey of
Hollow Rock and Carol Lee Hopper of Bruceton; five
brothers, Bobby Patterson of Buena Vista; Danny
Patterson of Huntingdon, Charlie Patterson of Camden,
Ricky Patterson of Yuma and Billy Patterson of Trenton;
a half-brother, Jeffery Patterson and a stepbrother,
Justin Douglas and two grandchildren.
Betty Ann Pedersen
1925-2003
FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA: Mrs. Betty Ann Pedersen, 77,
formerly of McKenzie died Monday, April 14 at a local
hospital in Fairhope. Memorial services will be held at
a later date. Survivors include her husband, E.E.
Pedersen and a daughter, Martha Pedersen.
Sarah Evelyn Pruitt
1921-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Sarah Evelyn Pruitt, 81, were
at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 17 at the McKenzie Church
of Christ with Bro. John Forgy officiating. Burial was
in the Shiloh Cemetery.
Mrs. Pruitt, retired secretary at Gaines Manufacturing
Company, died on Monday, April 14 at McKenzie Regional
Hospital.
She was born November 21, 1921 in Woodbury to the late
Charlie S. Pitmon and Ethel Gann Pitmon. She was a
member of the McKenzie Church of Christ and a volunteer
at Oak Manor Health Care Center.
Survivors include a son, James “Doodle” (Debbie) Pruitt
of Gleason; two sisters, Dorothy M. Pitmon of Nashville
and JoAnne Moore of Columbia; two grandchildren, Kristie
Arnold and Randy Pruitt, both of Gleason; two
great-grandchildren, Madison Arnold and Jacob Arnold,
both of Gleason.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Wilburn
Pruitt; a brother, James Robert Pitmon and a sister,
Mary Frances Ricks.

Frances Annette Smith
1940-2003
LEXINGTON: Services for Frances Annette Smith, 62,
widow of Jerry F. Smith, were at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday,
April 16 at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Lexington with
burial in Henderson County Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Smith died Sunday, April 13 at Osceola Baptist
Hospital at Osceola, Arkansas.
She was a retired schoolteacher for the Hollow Rock
School District.
She is survived by her brother, Mr. Mike Plunk of
Lepanto, Arkansas.

Opal G. Smothers
1914-2003
MCKENZIE: Mrs. Opal G. Smothers, 89, formerly of
Huntingdon, died on Sunday, April 20 at the Baptist
Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. Funeral services were
conducted on Tuesday, April 22 at 2:00 p.m. in the
Palmer Shelter United Methodist Church with Bro. Wayne
Holmes officiating. Interment followed in the church
cemetery.
Mrs. Smother was born January 16, 1914 in Carroll County
to the late Murray E. and Fronnia Weaver Smith. She was
a retired press operator for Publix Shirt Corporation
and a member of the Davis Chapel United Methodist
Church. Her husband, Howard Smothers, who died November
29, 1994, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Faye Townsend and
Janice Ross, both of McKenzie; one son, Grady Smothers
of Huntingdon; four sisters, Mae Henry Roark of
Nashville, Ludell Walker, Pauline Bennett and Lorene
Oatsvall, all of Huntingdon; three grandchildren and one
great-grandson.

Nevil Smothers
1918-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Nevil Smothers, 84, died Thursday,
April 17 at his home. Funeral services were conducted on
Saturday, April 19 at 1:00 p.m. in the Dilday Funeral
Home Chapel with Reverend Lynn Stapleton officiating.
Interment followed in the Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Smothers, the son of the late Joel and Maude
Bradford Smothers, was born August 26, 1918 in Holladay.
He was a retired millwright, a member of the Leach Full
Gospel Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge and a World
War II army veteran. His wife, Beulah Smothers, who died
in 1982 also preceded him in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Camper of
Lexington; two sons, Wayne King of Lexington and Mike
King of Huntingdon; four grandchildren and six

James David Bratton
1932-2003
SPRINGVILLE: Services for James David Bratton, 70,
formerly of McKenzie, will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday,
April 23 at First Baptist Church in Milan. Burial will
be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McKenzie. Bodkin Funeral
Home in Milan is in charge of arrangements. He died
Sunday, April 20 at his home following several months of
treatment for cancer.
Mr. Bratton currently served as a part-time officer with
McKenzie Police Department and served as Chief of Police
for Milan Police Department from December 1970 until his
retirement there in May 1995.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, and a former member of the
Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police. Prior to
accepting his post at Milan, he worked in Lansing,
Michigan, and also as a police officer in McKenzie for
about five years.
Survivors include his wife Carol Bratton; four
daughters: Kay Coffman of Medina, Cindy Blausis of Michigan, Teresa
Auvenshine of McKenzie and
Paula Bratton of Nashville; three sons: Ricky Bratton of
Bradford, Jackie Dunn of Jackson and Jimmy Dunn of
Columbia; a sister, Geneva Orr of McKenzie; a brother,
Clifton Bratton of McKenzie, twelve grandchildren and
one great grandson.
The family requests memorials be directed to the
American Cancer Society.
Visitation at Bodkin Funeral Home is set for 4:30 p.m.
Tuesday, April 22.
Jimmy Washburn
1948-2003
TREZEVANT: Mr. Jimmy Washburn, 54, died on Monday,
April 21 at McKenzie Regional Hospital. Services were
