Tony Gaylord Chaney
1956-2003
ATWOOD: Mr. Tony Chaney, 46, died on Monday, March
31 at the Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center in
Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday,
April 3 at 1:00 p.m. at the Leach Full Gospel Church
with Bro. Dean Sellars officiating. Interment followed
in the church cemetery.
Mr. Chaney was born on May 24, 1956 in Pikeville,
Kentucky. He was a self-employed auto mechanic and a
member of the Leach Full Gospel Church. He was preceded
in death by his father and mother, Gaylord and Mary
Thacker Chaney and two brothers, Darrell and Ralph
Chaney.
Survivors include two sons, Tony Gaylord Chaney of
Summerset, Kentucky and Gaylord Chaney Jr. of Pikeville,
Kentucky; four sisters, Rhonda Brewer of Forest Hill,
Kentucky, Mary Lois Tackett of Virgie, Kentucky and
Vonda Gibson and Beth Ann Chaney, both of Pikeville,
Kentucky; four brothers, Harold Chaney, Johnny L. Chaney
and Ricky Chaney, all of Pikeville, Kentucky and Stephen
Craig Chaney of Atwood.
Chase Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Payton Alexander Chappell
2003
GLEASON: Services for Payton Alexander Chappell,
seven-weeks old, were at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 2
at Gallimore Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Pinnell
officiating. Burial was in the Hopewell Cemetery.
Payton died on Monday, March 31 at Volunteer Community
Hospital.
Survivors include his parents, Charles Michael and Marie
Totty Chappell; one sister, Keeley Chappell, all of
Gleason; his grandparents, Larry and Linda Chappell of
Gleason and Lynn and Mary Totty of Greenfield and his
great-grandparents, Alice Chappell of Gleason and Robert
and Nancy Higgs of Gleason.
Sallie Jane Collins
1918-2003
GLEASON: Services for Sallie Jane Collins, 85, were
on Thursday, April 3 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gallimore
Funeral Home with Bro. James Trull officiating. Burial
was in the Hopewell Cemetery.
Mrs. Collins, widow of M.C. Collins, died on Monday,
March 31 at her home.
She was born on February 28, 1918 in Big Sandy to the
late William Frank and Eliza Bucy Chesser. She was a
member of the Church of Jesus Christ.
Survivors include her daughter, Martha Nick of Paris;
two sons, Clyde Wesley Collins of Lombard, Illinois and
Clarence Collins of Gleason; four sisters, Effie Sheeks
of West Memphis, Arkansas, Louise Hayes of Chicago,
Illinois, Thelma James of Latham and Juanita Hopkins of
Union City; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren
and eight great-great grandchildren.
Edward Gene Hunter
1939-2003
HUNTINGDON: Funeral services for Edward Gene Hunter,
64, were conducted on Thursday, April 3 at 1:00 p.m. in
the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Edwin Long
and Brother Lonnie Robinson officiating. Interment
followed at the New Hope Cemetery.
Gene was born on January 25, 1939 in Ruleville,
Mississippi to E.G. and Ibbie Hunter, both of whom
preceded him in death.
He was married to Nelda Jane Robinson on March 28, 1969
and to this union one child, Barbara Jane Hunter, was
born. On August 21, 2002, Barbara and her husband,
Michael Hamm presented Gene with the light of his life,
little Hunter Wayne Hamm.
Gene professed a belief in Christ at an early age and
was a member of the Releigh Assembly of God Church in
Memphis.
He was employed for 15 years as a driver for McLean
Trucking Company and Yellow Freight Systems until he was
forced to retire because of health problems.
Gene suffered a massive heart attack and died on April 1
at Methodist Hospital North in Memphis.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Nelda Jean
Hunter; one brother, Thomas Eddie Hunter of Cleveland,
Mississippi; three children, Debbie Thornton and Edward
Hunter of Tupelo, Mississippi and Barbara Hamm of
Memphis and three grandchildren.
Joyce Carolyn King
1939-2003
GLEASON: Services for Joyce Carolyn King, 64, were
at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 6 at Gallimore Funeral Home
with the Rev. Gene Price officiating. Burial was in the
New Hope Cemetery.
Mrs. King, a retired school teacher from Gideon,
Missouri, died on Wednesday, April 2 at Henry County
Medical Center in Paris.
She was born on January 19, 1939 in Gleason to the late
Claude E. and Avery Cole King. She was a member of the
Tumbling Creek Baptist Church.
There are no immediate survivors.
Paul Wayne Lambert
1931-2003
LAVINIA: Services for Paul Wayne Lambert, 71, were
at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 4 at Friendship Funeral Home
with burial in the Providence Cemetery.
Mr. Lambert, a retired factory worker, died on
Wednesday, April 2 at NHC Healthcare in Milan.
He was born on September 25, 1931 to the late Linard W.
Lambert and Minnie Lea Bolding Lambert. He was a member
of the Providence Baptist Church and the National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Joynell Lambert of Lavinia;
three daughters, Joyce Hassell, Judy Faye Lambert and
Melinda Morris, all of Milan; three sons, Allen Lambert,
Leonard Lambert and Johnny Lambert, all of Lavinia; a
sister, Barbara McIntyre of Trenton; two brothers,
William Lee Lambert of Crockett Mills and Eugene Lambert
of Trenton and fifteen grandchildren.
Mildred Ruth Neighbors
1919-2003
GLEASON: Services for Mildred Ruth Neighbors, 83,
were at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 4 at the Gallimore
Funeral Home with burial in Butler Cemetery.
Mrs. Neighbors died on Tuesday, April 1 at Baptist
Memorial Desota Hospital in Southaven, Mississippi.
She was born on September 8, 1919 in Gleason to the late
John Wesley and Arola Arnold Byrum. She was a member of
the Sand Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Paula Thetford of Memphis;
a son, Thomas Sharpe of Como, Mississippi; a sister,
Joyce Trevathan Gentry of Gleason; four grandchildren
and seven great-grandchildren.
Lucille O’Guin
1920-2003
GLEASON: Services for Lucille O’Guin, 82, were on
Monday, April 7 at 2:00 p.m. in Gallimore Funeral Home
with the Rev. Roy Auvenshine officiating. Burial
followed in the Hopewell Cemetery.
Mrs. O’Guin, widow of Larry Burns O’Guin, died on
Friday, April 4 at her home.
She was born on July 21, 1920 in Tiptonville to the late
John and Myrtle Scott Lyles. A son, Chester Roney, also
preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Roney of Gleason
and Teresa Taylor of Burton, Michigan; a son, Robert T.
Taylor II of Gleason; seven grandchildren and eighteen
great-grandchildren.
Curtis Taylor
1933-2003
TREZEVANT: Services for Curtis Taylor, 70, will be
at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 11 at Mt. Ararat Baptist
Church in Trezevant with the Rev. C.E. Pippin, Sr.
officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Ararat Church
Cemetery.
Mr. Taylor, retired employee of the Milan Arsenal, died
Saturday, April 5 at his home.
He was born March 2, 1933 in Wingo to the late Cornus
Taylor and Adeana Harris Taylor. He attended Clay School
in Trezevant and was a member of the Mt. Ararat Baptist
Church.
Survivors include his wife Martha Adkisson Taylor; a
daughter, Maurine Taylor Strickland of Paris, a sister,
Madeline Glass of Trezevant; a brother, Eugene Taylor of
Cleveland, Ohio; five grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
A son, Michael Taylor, preceded him in death.
Trinity Funeral Home in Paris was in charge of the
