Chloe H. Throgmorton
1930-2003
A private service was conducted at 2:30 p.m., Thursday,
December 5 at McEvoy Funeral Home for Chloe H.
Throgmorton of Old McKenzie Highway near Henry with Dr.
Gary S. Collier officiating. Interment followed in Bevil
Cemetery.
Mrs. Throgmorton, 73, died Tuesday, December 2 at Henry
County Medical Center.
A Henry County native, she was born September 9, 1930 to
the late James and Lula Howard McDaniel.
She was a homemaker and member of Shady Grove Baptist
Church.
Survivors include her husband, Henry V. Throgmorton, to
whom she was married on November 5, 1958. She was also
survived by one son, Mikey Throgmorton of Henry.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Zula Ard and
Phylis Conway and one brother, Lester McDaniel.
Walter B. McClerkin
1942-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Walter B. McClerkin, 61, passed away
Sunday, December 6 at his home. Funeral services will be
conducted on Wednesday, December 10 at 2:00 p.m. at the
St. Paul Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Coplin
officiating. Interment will follow in the church
cemetery.
Mr. McClerkin was born February 23, 1942 in Carroll
County to the late Arlander and Anna Pearl Hurt
McClerkin. He was a member of the St. Paul Missionary
Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by one
sister, Anna Jean McClerkin and one brother, Bobby Lee
McClerkin.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Shirley Webb
McClerkin; two daughters, Diane McClerkin of Jackson and
Janelle McClerkin of Huntingdon; two sons, Jeff
McClerkin of Nashville and Eric McClerkin of Huntingdon;
one stepson, James Holland Webb of Atlanta, Georgia;
four sisters, Charlotte Hunt of Nashville, Connie
McClerkin of McKenzie, Linda Reames of Nashville and
Wanda McClerkin of Huntingdon; two brothers, Alvin
McClerkin and Roscoe McClerkin, both of Huntingdon; and
several aunts, nieces and nephews.
Annie Virgie Dunlap
1916-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Annie Virgie Dunlap, 87, were
on Saturday, December 6 at the Jehovah’s Witnesses
Kingdom Hall in McKenzie. Burial was in Seminary
Cemetery in the Pillowville Community.
Mrs. Dunlap, widow of Leamor Erroll Dunlap, died on
Thursday, December 4 at West Tennessee Transitional
Center in Jackson.
She was born on November 30, 1916 in McKenzie to the
late Bessie Jones Grooms and Rubin Wright Grooms. She
was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Kingdom Hall,
McKenzie.
Survivors include a daughter Janice Chandler of
McKenzie; four grandchildren Kim (Matt) Chapman, Billie
(Gwen) Dunlap, Eddie (Brenda) Dunlap and Dena (Stacey)
Trammell and ten great-grandchildren Noah Chapman,
Jeanna Dunlap, Cara Dunlap, Dylan Dunlap, Megan Dunlap,
Morgan Dunlap, Clint Trammell, Kristen Trammell , Casey
and Zachery.
She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Grooms Dunlap.

Audrey Odell Gateley
1923-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Audrey Odell Gateley, 80, passed
away Monday, December 1 at the Tennessee Christian
Medical Center in Madison. Funeral services were
conducted on Thursday, December 4 at 1:00 p.m. at Twin
Oaks Church of Christ with Br. David Morrison
officiating. Interment followed in the Twin Oaks
Community Cemetery.
Mrs. Gateley was born October 13, 1923 in Benton County
to the late William and Lonie Barker Pafford. She was a
homemaker and a member of the Twin Oaks Church of
Christ. She was also preceded in death by her husband
Othel Gateley and one granddaughter, Kay Driver Gentry.
Survivors include one daughter, Teresa Driver of
Madison; one sister, Bessie Ladd of Union City and one
granddaughter.
Charles Wendell Glover
1927-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Charles Wendell Glover, 76,
were at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 29 at Cedar Avenue
Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home with the Revs. Jim
Robinson and Jerry Gallimore officiating. Burial was in
the Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Glover, a retired truck driver for Fruehauf
Driveway, died Wednesday, November 26 at McKenzie
Regional Hospital.
He was born May 8, 1927 in Tullahoma to the late Ethel
Toms Glover and John Glover. He was a member of
Bethlehem Baptist Church in Henry and a World War II
U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Glover; two sons,
David Glover of Normandy and Charles Glover, Jr. of
Gainesboro; five sisters, Sue Holston of California,
Paulette Hamilton of Hermitage, Ann Thomas and Lillian
Hill, both of Smyrna and Clarbow Ricker of Tullahoma; a
brother, Dennis Glover of Tullahoma; eleven
grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two stepsons, Richard Jones
and Michael Jones and one sister, Nancy Ray.
Thomas Edward “Hammer” Harris
1939-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Thomas Edward “Hammer” Harris, 64,
died on Wednesday, December 3 at his home. Memorial
services were held on Friday, December 5 at 3:00 p.m. at
the Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Ed Fisher
officiating.
Mr. Harris was born on May 11, 1939 in Baltimore,
Maryland to the late John Frederick and Elizabeth
Rolland Harris. He was a seaman. He was preceded in
death by a brother, Jimmy Harris.
Survivors include a daughter, Toni Tremblay of Royal
Palm, Florida; one son, Phillip Harris of Baltimore,
Maryland; one brother, Freddy Harris of Houston, Texas;
one sister, Betty Coolahan of Huntingdon; and two
grandchildren.

Elroy Hudgins Sr.
Elroy Hudgins Sr. died Monday, November 24 at a hospital
in Loma Linda, California hospital from complications of
a long illness. Funeral mass was at 10 a.m. Friday,
December 5 at Montecito Mortuary.
Mr. Hudgins was born in Carroll County on March 18,
1938. He lived in Colton, California for 38 years. He
retired from ROHR Industries in 1994.
He was a veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Hudgins of Colton; a
son, Roy Hudgins Jr. of San Bono, California; a
daughter, Debbie Guajardo of Oceano, California; five
sisters, two brothers; 7 grandchildren and one great
grandchild.
Richard Tucker
1941-2003
ATWOOD: Mr. Richard Tucker, 62, died on Sunday,
December 7 at the Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation
Center. Graveside funeral services were held on Tuesday,
December 9 at 1:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in
Henderson County.
Mr. Tucker, the son of the late Joseph Levi and Betty
Juanita Smith Tucker, was born on May 13, 1941 in
Decatur County. He was a retired factory worker and
retired from the National Guard. He was also preceded in
death by a daughter, Donna Leigh Slott.
Survivors include one daughter, Regina Bridgett Tucker
of Lexington; a brother, Robert Dwayne Tucker of
Lexington; one son-in-law, Michael Slott and two
grandchildren.

John Thomas Walsh
1920-2003
CLARKSBURG: Mr. John Thomas Walsh, 83, died on
Monday, December 1 at the Huntingdon Health and
Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Walsh was born April 11, 1920 in Lavinia to the late
Ben and Dora Johnson Walsh. He was a horse trainer for
Dr. Sergio Salazar.
Survivors include a daughter, Dottie Routh of Hartselle,
Alabama and one son, William T. Walsh of Reddick,
Florida.

Walter Scott Spears, Jr.
1930-2003
PARIS: Graveside services for Walter Scott Spears,
Jr., 73, will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 10 in
Memory Cemetery in Paris.
Mr. Spears died on Sunday, December 7 at Henry County
Medical Center.
He was born January 11, 1930 in Decatur, Illinois to the
late Walter Scott Spears, Sr. and Leona Mae Thorton
Spears. He married Betty Becker, who survives in 1947.
Mr. Spears was a former salesman and served as acting
plant manager for Threestar Plating Co. in McKenzie in
2002. He was also an U.S. Army veteran. He moved to
Paris in 1959.
Mr. Spears was instrumental in helping McKenzie land the
industries American Lantern, Del-Met and Plumley. He was
also a former plant manager for Champion Plastics in
Henry.
Additional survivors include three sons, Alan Spears of
Sparta, Robert Spears of McKenzie and Brian Spears of
Athens; a daughter, Catherine Brown of Riceville; a
sister, June Trusner and a brother, Bobby Spears, both
of Decatur, Illinois; seven grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers and
three sisters.
Willodean Williams Butler
1929-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Willodean Williams Butler, 74, died
on Monday, December 8 at the Huntingdon Health and
Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be
conducted on Wednesday, December 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt.
Nebo Baptist Church with Bro. Paul Merwin officiating.
Interment will follow in the McAuley Cemetery.
Mrs. Butler was born September 11, 1929 in Carroll
County to the late Curtis Parker and Ala Bama Bell
Williams. She was an employee of the Brown Shoe Company,
a member of the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and the Buena
Vista Home Demonstration Club. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Bulas Butler; two sisters, Dessie French
and Gaynell Bush and two brothers, J.G. Williams and
Elbert Williams.
Survivors include three daughters, Janice Sullivan of
Bruceton, Peggy Howell of Huntingdon, and Karen Butler
of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; three sons, Ray Butler of
Bruceton, Dennis Butler of Cedar Grove and Randy Butler
of Gallatin; three brothers, Eugene Williams, Buford
Williams, both of Hollow Rock and Kenneth Williams of
Hopewell, Virginia; two sisters, Helen McFadden of Atoka
and Eunice Gersdorf of Glenview, Illinois; 17
grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Clyde Finas Wilson
1923-2003
MANSFIELD: Clyde Finas Wilson, 80, died on Tuesday,
December 2 at Henry County Medical Center. Funeral
services were conducted at Bethlehem Baptist Church at
3:00 p.m., Thursday, December 4 with Jerry Gallimore and
Jim Robinson officiating. Burial followed in the church
cemetery. He was a member and deacon of the Bethlehem
Baptist Church.
Mr. Wilson was born October 16, 1923 in Trezevant to the
late Sidney S. and Verder Elizabeth Walker Wilson. He
was married on October 24, 1942 to the former Sylvia
Mairine Arrington, who died September 27, 1998.
He was a self-employed Jersey dairy farmer and an
honorary member of the Future Farmers of America.
Mr. Wilson was recognized as Henry County’s Mister Dairy
Farmer. He had a registered Jersey operation and the
biggest farm in West Tennessee. His herd won so many
trophies and ribbons that when he expanded his milking
parlor, awards decorated the entire top floor.
Always eager to show others around his farm, he was host
to several University of Tennessee Extension field days
in subjects like forage production, milk parlor
efficiency and solar-powered grain drying.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Allen of Henry
and Sue Garner of Mansfield; two sons, Finas Wilson and
James Wilson, both of Mansfield; one brother, E.C.
Wilson of Jackson, eight grandchildren and 12
great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Wilson
and a sister, Roza Wilson Argo.
