Jimmie May Campbell
1938-2003
FORREST CITY, ARKANSAS: Mrs. Jimmie May Campbell,
65, died Sunday, December 7 at her home. Mrs. Campbell
was born April 3, 1938 in Wynne. She was the daughter of
Harvey James Altman and Lillie May Buckhannan Altman,
was a housewife and a member of the Tabernacle of Jesus
Christ.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday,
December 9 in the chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Burial
followed in the Harris Chapel Cemetery.
In 1956, Mrs. Campbell married James Alfred Campbell,
Sr., who survives.
Additional survivors include five daughters, Betty Beene
of West Memphis, Vickie Thomas of Forrest City,
Arkansas, Karen Thomas and Charlotte Campbell, both of
Wynne, Arkansas and Amanda Heard of West Memphis; three
sons, James Campbell, Jr. of Proctor, Arkansas, Bobby
Campbell of Heber Springs, Arkansas and Carl Campbell of
McKenzie; three brothers, J.W. Altman of Hughes,
Arkansas, Carl “Gene” Altman of Booneville, Mississippi
and Bobby Altman of Polk, Florida; five sisters, Ruby
Woods of Wynne, Arkansas, Jinnie V. Fisher of
Burnsville, Mississippi, Marie Hobbs of Chicago,
Illinois, Bessie Featherson of Iuka, Mississippi and
Bonnie Parker of Helena, Arkansas; 18 grandchildren and
four great-grandchildren.
Ester Cunningham
1927-2003
MCKENZIE: Ester Cunningham, 76, died on Wednesday,
December 10 at Volunteer Hospital in Martin. Funeral
services were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December
12 at Greater Enon Baptist Church in McKenzie with the
Revs. Donald Bobbitt and James Stewart officiating.
Burial followed in Mt. Ararat Cemetery in Trezevant.
She was born April 16, 1927 in Trezevant to the late R.L.
and Maggie Bobbitt. She was married on April 1, 1944 to
Fred Cunningham, Sr., who preceded her in death. She was
a member of St. John Baptist Church in Jarrell.
Survivors include six daughters, Patricia Brown of
Paris, Maggie Cunningham of Martin, Lynn Cunningham of
Jackson and Esther McClerkin, Lois Milton, and Karen
Cunningham, all of McKenzie; a son, Fred Haywood
Cunningham of McKenzie; two sisters, Stella Hughes of
Wilma, Arkansas and Mary Wardlow of McKenzie; four
brothers, Robert Bobbitt of Paris, James Finis Bobbitt
of Atwood, Leroy Bobbitt and Willie Dean Bobbitt, both
of Louisville, Kentucky; 16 grandchildren and 19
great-grandchildren.
Ralph Cunningham
1936-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Ralph Cunningham, 67, were at
11:00 a.m., Monday, December 15 at Holy Cross Catholic
Church in Paris with the Rev. Victor Ciamatario
officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Cunningham, an alcohol and drug therapist for Aspell
Recovery Center, died on Friday, December 12 at his
residence.
He was born May 2, 1936 in McKenzie. He was a member of
the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Paris and was an air
force veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Cunningham was preceded in death by his parents,
Joseph Cunningham and Lena Matheny Cunningham and one
brother, Gordon Cunningham.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Terreo Cunningham;
one son, Mark Cunningham of Huntingdon; one daughter, Ty
Cunningham of Ohio; two stepchildren, Jim Burns of
Nashville and Nathan Burns of Murfreesboro; one brother,
Ray Cunningham of McKenzie and two grandchildren.
Brummitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mildred Hundley
1912-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Mildred Hundley, 91, will be
at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 17 at Brummitt
Funeral Home with Bro. John Forgy and Rev. Vance Rushing
officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mrs. Handley, a retired factory worker at Wilker
Brothers, died on Sunday, December 14 at McKenzie
Regional Hospital.
She was born April 30, 1912 in McKenzie to the late
Martha Jane Waddell Haynes and James W. Haynes. She was
a member of the McKenzie Church of Christ.
Survivors include three sons, Gordon McFadden and Tommy
McFadden, both of Henry and Billy McFadden of
Huntsville, Alabama; five daughters, Madeline Barker,
Judy Finley, June Howell and Jane Spann, all of McKenzie
and Shirley Pierce of Hammond, Indiana; a sister, Mary
Nanney of Bells; 22 grandchildren, 30
great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Raymond
Hundley and Bruce McFadden, an infant son, two brothers,
Lester Haynes and Lawton Haynes; two half-brothers,
Russell Haynes and James Haynes and a sister Nellie
Greer.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 16 from 9:30
a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday, December 17 from
9:00 a.m. until services at 11:00.
Harriette Kee
1918-2003
HOLLOW ROCK: Mrs. Harriette Kee, 85, passed away on
Friday, December 12 at the Life Care Center in Bruceton.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, December 14
at 1:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro.
Wayne Burton officiating. Interment followed in the
Crossroads Cemetery in Benton County.
Mrs. Kee was born June 29, 1918 in Carroll County to the
late Cratus and Lena Parish Birdwell. She was a
homemaker and a member of the Prospect General Baptist
Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry
Kee, who died in 1983; three brothers, Brasco Birdwell,
Callus Birdwell and Geno Birdwell.
Survivors include five daughters, Jeanette Massey of
Huntingdon; Treva Taylor and Alice Bush, both of Paris,
Doris DePriest of Hollow Rock and Betty Tenley of
Mansfield; three sons, Perry Kee, Jr. and Charles Kee,
both of Vale and Jimmy Kee of Hollow Rock; one brother,
Zeno Birdwell of Bruceton; one sister, Rhonda Hendrix of
Buena Vista; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-three
great-grandchildren.
Eric A. McClerkin
1967-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Eric A. McClerkin, 36, passed away
on Wednesday, December 10 at his home. Funeral services
were conducted on Saturday, December 13 at 1:00 p.m. in
the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles
Coplin, Rev. Earl Wade and Rev. Patrick Tisdale
officiating. Interment followed in the St. Paul Baptist
Church Cemetery.
Mr. McClerkin was born March 25, 1967 in Huntingdon. He
graduated from Huntingdon High School in 1985. He was a
member of the St. Paul Baptist Church and was employed
by the Ceco Door Company. He was preceded in death by
his father, Walter R. McClerkin, who passed away
December 6, 2003.
Survivors included his loving and devoted mother,
Shirley Ann Webb McClerkin of Huntingdon; two sons,
Anthony T. McClerkin of Huntingdon and Corderol D.
McClerkin of Milan; two sisters, Diane McClerkin of
Jackson and Janelle McClerkin of Huntingdon; two
brothers, Robert J. McClerkin of Nashville and James H.
(Dorothe) Webb of Alpharetta, Georgia; four aunts,
Charlotte (Tommy) Hunt, and Linda (Larry) Reames, both
of Nashville, Connie McClerkin of McKenzie, Wanda
McClerkin of Huntingdon; three uncles, James Jr. Webb,
Alvin (Denise) McClerkin and Roscoe McClerkin, all of
Huntingdon; two nephews, Jared Webb and Devin McClerkin,
one niece, Courtney Webb. He also leaves a host of
cousins, relatives and friends.
Danny Wayne Quinn
1952-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Danny Quinn passed away Thursday,
December 11 at the Methodist Central Hospital in
Memphis. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday,
December 14 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral Home
Chapel with Bro. Jim Holt and Bro. Phillip Halter
officiating. Interment followed in the New Springhill
Cemetery.
Mr. Quinn was born October 27, 1952 in Lexington. He was
a foreman for the Henry I. Siegel Company and a member
of the New Springhill Missionary Baptist Church. His
father, O’Neal Quinn, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Ivy Nell Quinn; his mother,
Martha Quinn of Huntingdon; one daughter, Trina Quinn of
Lexington; two sons, Matthew Quinn of Huntingdon and
Daniel Quinn of Hollow Rock; two stepsons, Doyle Cox of
Dresden and Dale Cox of Jackson; one grandchild and
three step-grandchildren.
Carolyn Sue Thomas
1942-2003
MCKENZIE: Mrs. Carolyn Sue Thomas, 61, died on
Tuesday, December 9 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital. A
memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Thomas was born February 13, 1942 in Cumberland
County, Illinois to the late Roy and Dorothy Oakley
Huffman. She was a housekeeper for the Baptist Memorial
Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Norbert Thomas; one son,
Garry Thomas of McKenzie; and two grandchildren.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
James A. Williams
1909-2003
CLEVELAND: James A. Williams, 94, passed away on
Wednesday, December 10 in a local healthcare facility.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in
McKenzie where he held many offices. He was an avid
fisherman and was a member of the McKenzie Board of
Education for 25 years. He owned Ben Franklin Five &
Dime Store in McKenzie and the Williams Fabric Stores in
West Tennessee for many years. Mr. Williams was the son
of the late Oliver and Annie Williamson Williams.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Ivy Nell
Williams of Cleveland; two children and spouses, James
O. and Carolyn Williams of Cleveland and Joseph C.
Williams and Azza El Abd of Washington D.C.; three
grandchildren, James O. Williams Jr. of Nashville,
Courtney Williams of Boone, North Carolina and Hussein
Heshmat of Washington, D.C.; one sister, Rachel McKinney
of McLemoresville and one brother, John T. Williams of
Memphis.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday,
December 13 in the Brummitt Funeral Home Chapel in
McKenzie with Rev. Harold Nation officiating. Interment
was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist
Church of McKenzie or Bethel College of McKenzie. Ralph
Buckner Funeral Home of Cleveland was in charge of the
preliminary arrangements.
Dr. Philip G. Williams, MD
1924-2003
MILAN: Services for Dr. Philip G. Williams, 79, were
at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, December 11 at Milan Cumberland
Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the Mt. Olivet
Cemetery in McKenzie. Bodkin Funeral Home of Milan was
in charge of the arrangements.
Dr. Williams, a retired physician, died on December 7 at
Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. He was a member
of the Milan Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he was
an elder and Sunday school teacher. He was also a World
War II, United States Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Williams of Milan;
two daughters, Molly Williams Holloway of Columbia and
Carrie William Butler of Newburgh, Indiana; three sons,
Philip G. Williams, Jr. of Newport News, Virginia,
Herbert B. Williams of Norris and Joe B. William of
Lavergne; one sister, Mary Margaret Joyce of Milan; one
brother, Joe F. Williams of McKenzie and fourteen
grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Milan
Cumberland Presbyterian Church or the charity of the
donor’s choice.
Thomas Howell Williams
1923-2003
BRUCETON: Services for Thomas Howell Williams, 80,
were at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 10 at Bruceton
Funeral Home Chapel with Ted Gentile officiating. Burial
was in the Prospect Cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Mr. Williams, a retired unit operator for TVA, died on
Monday, December 8 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in
Huntingdon.
He was born June 16, 1923 in Bruceton to the late Henry
Carl Williams and Era Blanche Elkins Williams. He was a
member of the Bruceton Church of Christ and served in
the United States Army during World War II where he was
awarded three Bronze Stars.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Mark Williams of Bruceton
and a sister, Juanita Holley of Bruceton.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Michael
Williams and a brother, Clyde Wallace Williams.
Frank Donald Newsom
1936-2003
TREZEVANT: Services for Frank Donald Newsom, 67,
will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 17 at
Trezevant First Baptist Church with the Rev. Malcolm
Norton officiating. Burial will be in the Trezevant
Cemetery. McKenzie Funeral Home is in charge of the
arrangements.
Mr. Newsom, a Carroll County School Bus driver and
farmer, died Sunday, December 14 at his home.
He was born October 24, 1936 in Trezevant to the late
Ollie and Jesse Newsom. He attended the Trezevant First
Baptist Church and was a member of the Trezevant Men’s
Club. He was a retired transportation supervisor for
Memphis light, Gas and Water and was currently serving
as a Trezevant City Alderman and a Carroll County
Commissioner. Mr. Newsom also served in the Tennessee
National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Allen Baker Newsom;
three daughters, April (Wayne) Moore, Kim (John) Brannon
and Susan (Ryan) Dyer, all of McKenzie; a son, Don
(Lisa) Newsome of Arlington; a sister, Mavis Mason of
Marietta, Georgia and six grandchildren, Alannah Newsom,
Mattie Moore, Alan Akin, Alec Akin, Jon Austin Brannon
and Dalton Dyer.
