Robbie Imogene Butler
1938-2003
BUENA VISTA: Mrs. Robbie Imogene Butler, 65, died on
Tuesday, December 16 at the Jackson-Madison County
General Hospital. Funeral services were conducted on
Thursday, December 18 at 1:00 p.m. in the Dilday Funeral
Home Chapel with Brother Leland Butler officiating.
Interment followed in the Butler Cemetery.
Mrs. Butler was born September 29, 1938 in Henderson
County to the late Robert and Iris Blankenship Shands.
She was an employee of the Thomas Bradford Shirt Corp.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Shands.
Survivors include her husband, Myron Timothy Butler; two
sons, Charles Michael Melton of Paris and Tony Lee
Melton of Orlando, Florida; a stepdaughter, Carolyn
Clark of Bruceton; a sister, Carol Waugh of Gleason;
four brothers, Larry Shands and Roger Shands, both of
Huntingdon; Darrell Shands of Buena Vista and Ricky
Shands of McKenzie; two grandchildren; four
step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
Johnnie Clayton Compton
1946-2003
MEMPHIS: Mr. Johnnie Clayton Compton, 57, died on
Wednesday, December 17 at the Methodist South Hospital
in Memphis. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday,
December 20 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in
Huntingdon with Brother Fred Ward officiating. Interment
followed in the Chapel Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Compton was born September 28, 1946 in Gibson County
to the late James Milburn and Frances Swearingen
Compton. He was a locomotive engineer for Canadian
National Railroad, a member of the Trinity Baptist
Church in Southaven, Mississippi, served in the United
States Marines and was a Vietnam veteran.
Survivors include his wife of 34 year, Pam Brewer
Compton; a daughter, Kellie Elizabeth Compton and two
sons, John Clinton Compton and William Corey Compton,
all of Memphis; two sisters, Susan Compton-Crawford of
New Castle, Pennsylvania and Kristie French of
Huntingdon.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Ella Vonnell Davis
1911-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Ellis Vonnell Davis, 92, died on
Wednesday, December 17 at the Life Care Center in
Bruceton. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday,
December 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home
Chapel with Brother Wayne Holmes officiating. Interment
followed in the Davis Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Davis was born July 24, 1911 in Carroll County to
the late Sherman and Louetta Jamison Brandon. She was a
homemaker and a member of the Davis Chapel United
Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Kenneth Davis, who passed away on July 28, 2001
and two grandsons, Kent Davis and John Davis.
She is survived by three sons, Clayton Davis of
Shalimar, Florida, Rayburn Davis of Huntingdon and
Kenneth Davis, Jr. of Huntingdon; four grandchildren and
five great-grandchildren.
Earl W. Hughes
1928-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Earl W. Hughes, 75, were at
1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 20 at Webb High School
with the Rev. James Stewart officiating. Burial was in
Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Trinity Funeral Home was in charge
of the arrangements.
Mr. Hughes died on Monday, December 15 at Methodist
University Hospital in Memphis.
He was born February 16, 1928 in McKenzie to the late
Roger W. Hughes and Maudella Haynes Hughes. He was a
member of the Johnson Temple C.M.E. Church. He was a
graduate of Webb High School and an U.S. Army veteran of
both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice Williams of
Memphis; a stepdaughter, Janice Hughton of Ealls Church,
Virginia and a brother, Doc Hughes of Indianapolis,
Indiana.
Floyd Nash
1900-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Floyd Nash, 103, passed away on
Monday, December 15 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in
Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday,
December 18 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cumberland Presbyterian
Church in America with Rev. Albert Jarrett officiating.
Interment followed in the Humbles Cemetery.
Mrs. Nash was born February 17, 1900 in Carroll County
to the late Colie Williamson and Mattie Carter Utley.
She was a housekeeper, a member of the American Legion
Auxiliary and a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian
Church of America. She was also preceded in death by her
husband, R.D. Nash, who died in 1979; one daughter,
Lillie M. Nash and one son, John D. Nash.
Survivors include two daughters, June Cozart of
Huntingdon and Irene Fason of Albuquerque, New Mexico;
three sons, Otis Nash of Huntingdon, Robert Nash and
James Nash of Dayton, Ohio; twenty-seven grandchildren;
forty-nine great-grandchildren and nineteen
great-great-grandchildren.
Bonnie Mayreen Neighbors
1905-2003
GLEASON: Services for Bonnie Mayreen Neighbors, 98,
were at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 8 at Gallimore
Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Larry Dean Shaw
officiating. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery.
Mrs. Neighbors, a retired Martin Manufacturing Co.
employee died on Saturday, December 6 at McKenzie
Regional Hospital.
She was born April 29, 1905 in Gleason to the late
Clerie and Rosa Page Maynard. She was a member of the
Gleason Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha Hearn of Lansing,
Illinois; two sisters, Mamie Sue Shaw and Dell Taylor,
both of Gleason; three grandchildren, four
great-grandchildren and one-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dee
Neighbors and two daughters, Louise Thomas and Pauline
Parks.
Thomas Edgar Nelson
1919-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Thomas Edgar Nelson, 84, died on
Tuesday, December 16 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in
Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday,
December 20 at 10:00 a.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home
Chapel with Bro. Scott Carter officiating. Interment
followed in the Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Nelson was born June 3, 1919 in Pitt County, North
Carolina to the late Ira Elbert and Sarah Fanie
Whitehurst Nelson. He was a retired employee of the West
Tennessee Public Utility District, a member of the New
Crossroads Baptist Church and a retired Master Sergeant
with 20 years of service in the U.S. Army. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Nelson, who
passed away in 1990.
He is survived by brother, Ray Nelson of Stokes, North
Carolina.
Nola Mae Price
1915-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Nola Mae Price, 88, will be
at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 24 at Brummitt Funeral
Home with the Rev. Aaron Holmes officiating. Burial will
be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Christmasville.
Mrs. Price, a retired teacher and homemaker, died on
Saturday, December 20 at McKenzie Health Care Center.
She was born September 11, 1915 in Redford, Missouri to
the late Cora Loness and Henry Frank Helvey. She was a
member of the Waverly Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two sons, LeRoy Price and Bill Price,
both of Globe, Arizona; a daughter, JoAnn Ownby of
McKenzie; nine grandchildren, eighteen
great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Melvin
Otto Price.
Oneita Price
1923-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Oneita Price, 80, died on Sunday,
December 14 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral
services were conducted on Saturday, December 20 at
11:00 a.m. at the Huntingdon Cumberland Presbyterian
Church in America with the Rev. Albert Jarrett
officiating. Interment followed in the Humbles Cemetery.
Mrs. Price was born September 12, 1923 in Obion County
to the late Ernest and Mary Tittsworth Warford. She was
a retired schoolteacher for the Hollow Rock-Bruceton
Special School District. She was preceded in death by a
brother, Owen William Warford.
She is survived by a brother, T.A. Warford of Kentucky.

Larue Lowrance Robinson
1911-2003
HOLLOW ROCK: Services for Larue Lowrance Robinson,
92, were at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 17 at
Bruceton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Davis
officiating. Burial was in Marlboro Cemetery.
Mrs. Robinson, retired owner/manager of Robinson
Insurance Agency, died Sunday, December 14, at Colonial
Hills Nursing Home in Maryville.
She was born September 1, 1911 to the late Clyde H. and
Ocia Lindsey Lowrance. She was a member of the Bruceton
First Baptist Church and a Sunday school teacher there
for many years.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha Zabetakis of
Sanford, Connecticut; a son, Hal Robinson of Maryville;
two sisters, Peggy Lindaman of Nashville and Celene
Butler of Jackson; three grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wade
Robinson.
Rena Seats
1910-2003
HUNTINGDON: Services for Rena Seats, 93, were held
at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 18 at Little Grove
Missionary Baptist Church. Burial was in the church
cemetery.
Ms. Seats, widow of Homer Seats, died on Friday,
December 12 at Huntingdon Health and Rehab Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Lorraine Williamson and
grandson, James D. Williamson, both of Detroit,
Michigan; a sister-in-law, Mary Thomas of Milan, nieces
Rena Alge and Pamela Taylor of Bruceton and a host of
relatives and friends.

J.L. Smothers
1925-2003
HOLLOW ROCK: Mr. J.L. Smothers, 78, died on Tuesday,
December 16 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in
Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday,
December 18 at 2:00 p.m. at the Marlboro Baptist Church
with Brothers Jack Hopper and Jerry Hollingsworth
officiating. Interment followed in Humbles Cemetery.
Mr. Smothers was born June 1, 1925 in Carroll County to
the late John Logan and Sally Ann Lewis Smothers. He was
a self-employed carpenter, a member of the Marlboro
Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in
death by a sister, Verlya Wilkes.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Bertha Trull
Smothers; a sister, Hazel Thomas of Huntingdon and two
brothers, Charles Smothers and Leo Smothers, both of
Huntingdon.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mamie Claire Richardson Williams
1913-2003
LAVINIA: Funeral services for Mrs. Mamie Claire
Richardson Williams, 90, were at 2:00 p.m., Friday,
December 19 at the Lavinia Methodist Church with
Reverend Eugene Leslie officiating. Burial was in the
Lavinia Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams, a retired schoolteacher, died on Tuesday,
December 16 at McKenzie Regional Hospital. She was a
member of the Medina Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William B.
Williams; a brother, John Glover Richardson and a
sister, Irene Caldwell.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Williams Burkett of
Lavinia.
The family request memorials be directed to the West
Carroll Primary School Library in McLemoresville.

Ella Frances Bowers
1918-2003
TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA: Graveside services for Ella
Frances Bowers, 85, formerly of Gleason, were at 11:30
a.m., Thursday, December 11 in Sandhill Cemetery with
the Rev. Dennis Scott officiating.
Mrs. Bowers, retired senior associate with Investors
Realty, died Friday, December 5 at Westminster Oaks
Health Center in Tallahassee.
She was born June 26, 1918 in Gleason to the late Herman
and Pauline Barnett Weldon. She was a member of the East
Hill Baptist Church and Tallahassee Garden Club.
Survivors include two sons, Gene Weldon Bowers of
Tallahassee, Florida and Terry Alan Bowers of New York
City, New York; a sister, Ruby Wallace of Fennville,
Michigan; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren
and six great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Earnest
Harold Bowers; two brothers, Raymond Weldon and Barnett
Weldon and a sister, Louise Smothers.
Michael Meade Curry
1957-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Michael Meade Curry, 46, passed away
on Monday, December 22 at the Life Care Center in
Bruceton. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday,
December 23 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral Home
Chapel with Bro. Kenny Carr officiating. A graveside
service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 27
in the McElwee Cemetery in Minniehaha, West Virginia
with the Rev. Betty Shields officiating.
Mr. Curry was born January 9, 1957 in Orlando, Florida
to the late Ralph White and Margaret Wilson McElwee
Curry. He was a construction worker all his life and
worked for the Behlen Manufacturing Company prior to a
long illness.
Survivors include his wife, Kelly Curry; one son,
Michael Meade Curry, Jr. of Huntingdon; five sisters,
Mary Diller of Marlinton, West Virginia, Diane Jenson of
Sanford Florida and Sharon Curry, LuAnne Moore and Sue
McDaniel, all of Orlando and two brothers, Bob Curry of
Orlando, Florida and Ralph Curry of Lilburn, Georgia.
Leron Ethel Jones
1912-2003
GLEASON: Services for Mrs. Leron Ethel Jones, 91,
were held on Tuesday, December 23 at 2:00 p.m. at
Seminary Methodist Church. Burial took place in Seminary
Cemetery.
Mrs. Jones, the widow of Willie Oval Jones, died Sunday,
December 21 at Volunteer Community Hospital.
Survivors include her daughter, Betty Freeman of Gleason
and son Bobby Jones of Trenton; six grandchildren and 14
great-grandchildren.
