Billy Ray Harper
1932-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Billy Ray Harper, 71, will be at
11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 4 at Cedar Avenue Chapel
of the McKenzie Funeral Home with the Reverends Vance
Rushing and Paul Conquest officiating. Burial will be in
Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Harper, retired employee of General Motors in
Lansing, Michigan, died Monday, December 1 at McKenzie
Regional Hospital.
He was born March 27, 1932 in Como to the late Effie
Jane Clark Harper and George Lindell Harper. He was a
member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sara Lee Crocker Harper; two
daughters, Carol Noonan of McKenzie and Joanne Large of
Lansing, Michigan; a son, Michael Ray Harper of
Bradford; three sisters, Elawease Ellis of Gleason and
Faye Taylor and Shirley Morris, both of Greenfield;
three brothers, George Harper of McKenzie and L.C.
Harper and William Harper, both of Paris; three
grandchildren, Mindy Jo Large of Lansing, Michigan and
Carrie Noonan and Eric Noonan, both of McKenzie and one
great-grandson, Blake Large of Lansing, Michigan.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Paul
Harper, James Harper and Raymond Harper.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 3 from
3:00-8:00 p.m.
Shirley Jean Hutcheson McCormack
1939-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Shirley Jean Hutcheson McCormack,
64, were at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 2 at Cedar
Avenue Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home with the Rev.
Jimmy Ricketts officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet
Cemetery.
Mrs. McCormack died on Sunday, November 30 at
Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
She was born February 4, 1939 in McKenzie to the late
Lillian Elizabeth Delaney Hutcheson and Rollie Clifton
Hutcheson.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Roberts of
Alamo and Debbie Shelton of Corinth, Mississippi; three
sisters, Peggy Burton of Illinois, Betty Jo Reynolds of
Gleason and Mary Jane Hutchins of McKenzie; a brother,
John W. Hutcheson of Chewalla; three grandchildren and
three great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin
Roosevelt Hutcheson and Bell Clifton Hutcheson.
Barbara Jean Allen
1953-2003
TREZEVANT: Services for Barbara Jean Allen, 50, were at
11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 27 at Brummitt Funeral
Home in Trezevant with Bro. Richard Allen officiating.
Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Miss Allen, a factory worker, died Tuesday, November 25
at Life Care Center in Bruceton.
She was born June 26, 1953 in Trezevant to the late
Mattie Iona Lowe Allen and Henry Allen.
Survivors include a sister, Virginia McConnell of
Greenfield; two brothers, George Allen of Trezevant and
Danny Allen of Sparta.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy
Allen and Charles Allen.
Ruby Bates
1924-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Ruby Bates, 78, were at 2:00
p.m., Sunday, November 30 at Brummitt Funeral Home with
Bro. Vance Rushing and Bro. Dennis Beal officiating.
Burial was in Enon Cemetery.
Ms. Bates, a homemaker and farmer, died Thursday,
November 27 at McKenzie Regional Hospital. She was born
December 9, 1924, to the late Ernest and Vernyl Curry
Bates. She was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist
Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Kaye (James) Gilliam of
Trezevant; a brother, Buster Bates of Phil Campbell,
Alabama; one grandson Jimmy (Denise) Gilliam; great
grandchildren Celina and Zachary Gilliam; a niece,
Annette Bates and one nephew, Phillip Bates.
Bro. Clarence F. Carter
1918-2003
HUNTINGDON: Brother Clarence F. Carter, 85, died on
Wednesday, November 26 at his home. Funeral services
were conducted on Sunday, November 30 at 2:00 p.m. at
the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brothers Kenneth
Stapleton, Rufus Chandler and Scott Carter officiating.
Interment followed in the Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Brother Carter was born September 5, 1918 in Carroll
County to the late Charlie Luther and Lillie Mae Carter.
Brother Carter was called to the ministry in late 1937,
early 1938. He was preceded in death by one son, Bruce
Daniel “Danny” Carter, three brothers, Howard Carter,
Harold Carter and Gerald Carter and two sisters, Edith
Mason and Clara Foster.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mrs. Alene
Blackwell Carter; one son, Dr. Lee M. Carter and wife
Barbara; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Carter; two brothers,
John Carter and Giles Carter; one sister, Betty Meggs;
six grandchildren, Steve Carter, Stanley Carter, Scott
Carter, Shawn Carter, Rachel Carter and Katherine
Carter; and one great-granddaughter, Kayla Carter, all
of Huntingdon.
Charles Wendell Glover
1927-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Charles Wendell Glover, 76, were
at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 29 at Cedar Avenue
Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home with the Revs. Jim
Robinson and Jerry Gallimore officiating. Burial was in
the Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Glover, retired truck driver for Fruehauf Driveway
died Wednesday, November 26 at McKenzie Regional
Hospital.
He was born May 8, 1927 in Tullahoma to the late Ethel
Toms Glover and John Glover. He was a member of the
Bethlehem Baptist Church in Henry and a World War II
U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include two sons, David Glover of Normandy and
Charles Glover, Jr. of Gainesboro; five sisters, Sue
Holston of California, Paulette Hamilton of Hermitage,
Ann Thomas and Lillian Hill, both of Smyrna and Clarbow
Ricker of Tullahoma; a brother, Dennis Glover of
Tullahomoa; eleven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren
and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two stepsons, Richard Jones
and Michael Jones and a sister, Nancy Ray.
Lemuel Jessee
1946-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Lemuel Jessee, 57, died Wednesday,
November 26 at his home. A memorial services was held on
Saturday, November 29 at 1:00 p.m. in the Dilday Funeral
Home Chapel with Brothers Rick Crossno and Lee Bates
officiating.
Mr. Jessee, the son of the late Thomas and Jettie Mae
Robinson Jessee, was born September 30, 1946 in
Virginia. He retired from General Motors after 30 years
and was a reserve and jailer for the Carroll County
Sheriff’s Department. He was a Mason, Shriner, Eagle and
a member of the Huntingdon Elks Lodge.,
Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Patsy Jessee;
two daughters, Candy Pavliscak of Lake Orion, Michigan
and Angie Jessee of Waterford, Michigan; two sons,
Robert Jessee of Sterling Heights, Michigan and James
Jessee of Lake Orion, Michigan; a stepdaughter, Jennifer
Leveque of Vasser, Michigan and two stepsons, Joseph
Davis of Weisdale, Florida and Jeffrey Davis of Apopka,
Florida; a sister, Arlene and six grandchildren.
Butler Ray Perry
1920-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Butler Ray Perry, 83, were at
1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 29 at Brummitt Funeral
Home with Bro. Keith Pence officiating. Burial was in
Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Perry, retired butcher, died Thursday, November 27
at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was born November 3, 1920 in Henry County to the late
Ivie Pearl Tucker Perry and Smith Perry. He was a member
of the Community Grove Methodist Church and a World War
II army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Perry; two sons,
Jan Perry and Jerry Perry, both of McKenzie; a brother,
Harold Perry of Henry County; a sister, Ruth Fridenstine
of Paris; eight grandchildren and 16
great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Inez Trask
and Willie J. Robey.
Lula Pryor
1922-2003
ELGIN, ILLINOIS: Mrs. Lula Pryor, 80, formerly of
Bruceton, died Monday, November 24 at the Glen Oaks
Hospital in Illinois. Funeral services were conducted
Saturday, November 29 at 10:00 a.m. at the Dilday
Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Darryl Harris
officiating. Interment followed in the Carroll Memorial
Gardens.
Mrs. Pryor was born November 25, 1922 in Carroll County
to the late Elmer Vaughn and Flora Warren Arnold. She
was a homemaker. She was also preceded in death by her
husband, James Pryor; two brothers, Boyd Vaughn and
Leslie Arnold; two sisters, Lois Warren and Leona
Leadetter.
Survivors include two daughters, Velma Sanchez of Elgin,
Illinois and Brenda Sanders of Henry; three sons, Earl
Pryor of Winfield, Illinois, Elton Pryor of Henry and
Jerry Pryor of Huntingdon; two sisters, Maydell
Whitehead of Kansas and Betty Williams of Troy; two
brothers, Bud Arnold of Dennison, Texas and David Vaughn
of Union City; 14 grandchildren and 16
great-grandchildren.
Mable Louise Taylor
1921-2003
GLEASON: Services for Mable Louise Taylor, 82, were at
2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 2 at Gallimore Funeral Home
Chapel with the Rev. Gene Price officiating. Burial was
in New Hope Cemetery.
Mrs. Taylor died on Saturday, November 29 at McKenzie
Regional Hospital.
She was born October 19, 1921 in Parris Island, South
Carolina to the late Dewey and Lora Blanch McGee
Berryhill.
Survivors include a son, Gene Dotson of Gleason; a
daughter, June Vaughan of Lake, Michigan; a sister, Emma
Oller of Lansing, Michigan; seven grandchildren; twelve
great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchildren.
She was the widow of Ishmeal Dotson and Fred Taylor.
Alton Tegethoff
1937-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Alton Tegethoff, 66, were at
11:00 a.m., Monday, December 1 at Brummitt Funeral Home
with the Rev. Aaron Holmes officiating. Burial was in
Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Tegethoff, a factory worker, died Friday, November
28 at McKenzie Regional Hospital.
He was born May 22, 1937 to the late Myrtle Faye Burke
Tegethoff and Roy E. Tegethoff. He was a member of
Pilgrim’s Rest Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Alva Lee Wilkinson Tegethoff;
a daughter Cristal Conway of McKenzie; three
grandchildren, Tandi Conway, Tyler Thompson and Angel
Thompson, all of McKenzie.
