Ida Bell Hughes
1901-2003
MCKENZIE: Funeral services for Ida Bell Hughes were
at noon on Saturday, February 15 at the Johnson Temple
Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in McKenzie with
the Rev. Henry Cunningham officiating. Burial was in Mt.
Olivet Cemetery in McKenzie.
Mrs. Hughes, 101, died on Tuesday, February 11 at Oak
Manor Nursing Home in McKenzie.
She was born in McKenzie on June 25, 1901, to the late
Carlos and Annie Jones Manley Bell. Her husband, Percy
Hughes, and a daughter, Ida Mae Hughes also preceded her
in death.
Mrs. Hughes was a member of the Johnson Chapel Church
for more than 90 year. She was a member of the Webb
School Alumni Association in McKenzie, member of the
Stewardess Board, Missionary Society, Choir and Sunday
School and had served as the first president of a senior
citizens organization.
Survivors include several relatives, Earl Hughes of
McKenzie, Callie Gates of Cleveland, Ohio, Janice Hughes
Williams of Memphis, Virgie Hart of St. Louis, Missouri
and Dock Hughes of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Trinity Funeral Home in Paris was in charge of the
arrangements.
James Mabry Hames
1927-2003
TREZEVANT: Funeral services for James Mabry Hames,
76, were on Sunday, February 16 at 2:00 p.m. at McKenzie
Baptist Church with Bro. Eugene Blankenship officiating.
Burial was in Carroll Memorial Gardens. Mr. Hames, a
retired Milan Arsenal employee, died Friday, February 14
at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was born on February 3, 1927 in Trezevant, the son of
the late Charlie Hames and Nena Argo Hames.
Mr. Hames was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Patterson Hames;
daughters Susan Newbill of Jackson, Shannon Triplett of
Trezevant, Janie Lee Wood of Bogata, Texas; sisters,
Jeffie Stafford of Trezevant, Cora Walker of Spring
Creek and Esther Allen of Jackson; 13 grandchildren Cory
Woods, Axel Woods, Tosha Stafford, Jonathan Triplett,
Tammie McDonald, Tina Goff, Dustin Hames, Joey Hames,
Jeannie Hames, Chad Hames, Heather Towery, Chad Woods
and Courtney Woods; and four great-grandchildren, Corbin
McDonald, Chase McDonald, Kara Goff, and Kiley Goff.
Brummitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Donald "Jack" Max Lovell
1932-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Donald "Jack" Max Lovell, 70,
were at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 18 at Brummitt
Funeral Home with Rev. John Pugh and Brother Vance
Rushing officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery in
Medina. Mr. Lovell, First Mate on a tug boat, died
Sunday, February 16 at McKenzie Regional Hospital in
McKenzie.
He was born July 9, 1932 in Gibson, son of the late
Emily Williams and Harley T. Lovell.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys V. Lovell, sons,
James Lee Newland of Marietta, Georgia, Dennis Max
Lovell of San Antonio, Texas and Terry Joe Lovell of
McKenzie; daughter, Nancy Louise Crane of Paris;
sisters, Sarah Graves of Medina and Betty Norman of
Fernandina Beach, Florida, 16 grandchildren; 23
great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Milford Bruce Brooks
1909-2003
BRUCETON: Graveside services for Milford Bruce
Brooks, 93, were at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 15 at
Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, Virginia with Rev.
Greg Townsend officiating.
Mr. Brooks, a retired coal miner, died on Wednesday,
February 12 at Life Care Center in Bruceton.
He was born May 11, 1909 in Lee County, Virginia to the
late Allen and Mary Kathleen Stanley Brooks. He was a
member of Big Stone Baptist Church and a World War II
navy veteran.
Survivors include a son, James Brooks of Adelanto,
California and a niece, Mary Palmer of Bruceton.
His wife, Verna Brooks, preceded him in death.
Floyd Derryberry
1904-2003
YUMA: Services for Floyd Derryberry, 99, were at
2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 18 at Reeds Chapel in
Lexington with burial in Jones Cemetery in Wildersville.
Mr. Derryberry, a farmer, died on Sunday, February 16 at
Henderson County Hospital.
He was a member of the Wildersville Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Em Derryberry of Yuma.
Wesley Cunningham
1928-2003
LAVINIA: Services for Wesley Cunningham, 74, were at
2:00 p.m., Friday, February 14 at Bodkin Funeral Home
with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Cunningham, a retired farmer, died on Tuesday,
February 11 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church.
He was the widower of Fara Mae Cunningham.
Maudie Neal "Bootsie" Burgess Hayes
1924-2003
HORN LAKE, MISSISSIPPI: Maudie Neal "Bootsie"
Burgess Hayes, 79, died on Sunday, February 9 at Baptist
Memorial Hospital DeSota in Southaven. Funeral services
were held on Wednesday, February 12 at 10:00 a.m. Burial
was in the Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens in Southaven.
She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hayes, widow of Namon Edward Hayes, leaves a
daughter, Tene Nelson of Hernando, MS; four sons,
Kenneth Hayes and Richard Hayes, both of Horn Lake;
Michael Hayes of McKenzie and Mark Hayes of Brighton;
two sisters, Merl Avant and Bobby Jean Carter and a
brother, Claude Burgess, all of Mangham, Louisiana; 17
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Jessie Sanford Robertson, Jr.
1953-2003
HOLLOW ROCK: Services for Jessie Sanford Robertson,
Jr., 49, were at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 13 at
Bruceton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jarrett
Glosson officiating. Burial was in Barren Springs
Cemetery.
Mr. Robertson, supervisor for Tennessee Pearl Company,
died Tuesday, February 11 at his residence.
He was born on March 20, 1953 in Joiner, Arkansas to
Violet Cavitt Robertson and the late Jesse Sanford
Robertson, Sr.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his spouse,
Shelia Blagg Robertson; a daughter, Angela Smith of Ft.
Eustis, Virginia; two sons, Patrick Robertson and Justin
Robertson, both of Hollow Rock; a sister, Judy Moore of
Blytheville, Arkansas; two brothers, Todd Robertson and
Sammy Robertson, both of Hollow Rock and one grandchild.
Brookie Ann Burke Connell
1917-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Brookie Ann Burke Connell,
85, were at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 17 at Brummitt
Funeral Home with Bro. Kenneth Edwards officiating.
Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McKenzie.
Mrs. Connell, a homemaker, died on Friday, February 14
at Baptist Hospital in Huntingdon.
She was born March 30, 1917 in McKenzie to the late
Della Barton Burke and Pratt Burke. She was a member of
the McKenzie Church of Christ. Her husband, Ralph
Connell, a brother, William Burke and a grandson, John
Beecham also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Beecham of
Naperville, Illinois; two grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
Louise Leach Ramsey
1921-2003
MCLEMORESVILLE: Services for Louise Leach Ramsey,
81, were at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 15 at the
Bodkin Funeral Home with burial in the Pisgah Cemetery
in Atwood.
Mrs. Ramsey, a homemaker, died on Wednesday, February 12
at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
She was a member of the Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian
Church where she served as the church pianist. Her
husband Roy Ramsey, Jr. preceded her in death.
Surviving are three sons, Pete Ramsey of Martin, Mark
Ramsey of Huntingdon and Phillip Ramsey of Niangua,
Missouri; two daughters, Ellen Ramsey Barr of Memphis
and Jennifer Hays of Milan; six grandchildren, Mike
Hays, Jenny Lytle, Brett Ramsey, Matt Ramsey, Clifton
Roy Ramsey and Alan Ramsey and two great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be directed to the Bethel
Cumberland Presbyterian Church in McLemoresville.
Prentice Jamison
1907-2003
HUNTINGDON: Services for Prentice Jamison, 95, were
at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 16 at Smyrna Baptist
Church in Huntingdon where he was a member with his son,
Rev. Carvene Jamison officiating. Rev. Jamison is pastor
of the Williams Grove Baptist Church. Burial was in
Humble Cemetery in Huntingdon.
Jamison died on Wednesday, February 12 at Baptist
Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
He was born July 13, 1907 in Huntingdon to the late
George and Elmyra Jamison. He was married to the former
Hallie King, who died on July 6, 1981.
Jamison leaves 319 living descendants, including four
daughters, Louise Blankenship, Melvie Sue Pearson and
Vella Owens, all of Huntingdon and Mary Jean Craig of
Jackson; three other sons, Rev. Dewayne Jamison and
Raymond Jamison, both of Huntingdon and George L.
Jamison of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; 72 grandchildren; 158
great-grandchildren and 81 great-great grandchildren.
Two sons, Prentice Jamison, Jr. and Raynell Jamison and
three daughters, Dorothy Willis, Margaret Ann Melton and
Evelyn Jamison also preceded him in death.
Trinity Funeral Home in Paris was in charge of the
arrangements.
Edward Uriah Hurlburt
1957-2003
MCKENZIE: Graveside services for Edward Uriah
Hurlburt, 45, were at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, February 13
at Shiloh Cemetery with Bro. Dewayne Thomas officiating.
Mr. Hurlburt, disabled, died Tuesday, February 11 at his
residence.
He was born on September 21, 1957 in Monticello, Indiana
to the late Audrey Hurlburt and Bert William Hurlburt,
Sr. He was a U.S. Army veteran and attended the
Lighthouse Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary K. Hurlburt; three
daughters, Karen (Roger) Webb of McKenzie; Heidi Jo
Hurlburt and Chasity (Eric) Myers of Hollow Rock; a
stepdaughter, Donna Faye Warren; two brothers, Byron
Hurlburt of Monticello, Indiana and Bert Hurlburt, Jr.
of Humboldt; two sisters, Vivian Abbott of Monticello,
Indiana and Joann Blackwell of Tomball, Texas; and two
grandchildren Madison Myers and Brent Austin Webb.
Mildred Lois Ross
1924-2003
GLEASON: Services for Mildred Lois Ross, 78 were at
2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 16 at Gallimore Funeral Home
with the Rev. Jim Stubbs officiating. Burial was in the
New Valley Cemetery.
Mr. Ross died on Saturday, February 15 at
Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was born on
June 11, 1924 in Gleason to the late Tommy Jackson and
Eva Mae Wiseman Page. She was a member of the New Valley
Methodist Church. She was the widow of Earl Ross.
Survivors include Marcia Chandler of Gleason and Kathy
Ross of Milan; a son, Steve Ross of Gleason; a brother,
Jerry Page of Gleason, five grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
Edna Bill Shaddix Greene
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Edna Bill Shaddix Greene died on
Sunday, February 16 at the Life Care Center in Bruceton.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, February 19 at
1:00 p.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Dr.
Mickey Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow at
Marlboro Cemetery.
Mrs. Greene was born in Jefferson County, Alabama. She
was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a
retired office assistant/secretary/bookkeeper for the
Federal Land Bank Association of Huntingdon for 22
years, which dealt in farm loans. Her parents, Willie
McClure and Minnie Lee Carr Shaddix and a half-brother,
Gerald David Shaddix, all of Birmingham, Alabama, all
preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Bill G.
Greene of Huntingdon; a son and daughter-in-law Paul D.
and Beverly Leedham Greene of Nashville; one brother,
William Deward Shaddox of Birmingham, Alabama; one
nephew; one niece; three great-nephews and two
great-nieces, all of Birmingham, Alabama.
