Marie Stanford
1920-2002
CEDAR GROVE: Services for Marie Stanford, 82, were
at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 27 at Mt. Gilead Baptist
Church. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Mrs.
Stanford died on Tuesday, December 24 at Skilled Nursing
of Jackson. She was retired from the Milan Arsenal.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Dodd of Cedar
Grove; two sons, Allen Stanford of Memphis and Roger
Stanford of Greenville, South Carolina; three sisters,
Mary Thornton and Mable Page, both of Jackson and Ruthie
Climer of Decaturville; one brother, Robert Usery of
Jackson and four grandchildren. Her husband, Virgil
Stanford, preceded her in death. Reed’s Chapel was in
charge of the arrangements.
Harry Joe Nelson
1944-2002
GREENFIELD: Services for Harry Joe Nelson were at
11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 24 at Williams Funeral
Home with burial in New Valley Cemetery. Survivors
include his wife, Brenda Kay Nelson, three daughters,
Kim Clements, Teresa Lewis and Dana Powell; one son,
Robert Nelson; one sister, Janice and nine
grandchildren.
Edward Lee “Ed” Morris
1951-2002
BRUCETON: Graveside services for Edward Lee “Ed”
Morris, 51, were held on Friday, December 27 at 11:00
p.m. with Warren T. Sykes officiating. Burial was in the
Foundry Hill Baptist Cemetery in Puryear. Mr. Morris, a
material handler for Dana Corp., died on Monday,
December 23 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
He was a member of the Puryear Baptist Church. He was
born on September 1, 1951 in Murray, Kentucky to the
late Laverne Lee Morris and Edna Inez Mohundro Morris
Rousseau. Survivors include his wife, Angie Hatley
Morris; one son, Eddie Morris of Shelbyville; one
daughter, Mary Morris of Paris; one stepson, Aaron
Foster of Bruceton; two sisters, Sue and Mary of
Wisconsin; one brother, Joe Rousseau of Gleason and two
grandchildren. Ridgeway Funeral Home was in charge of
the arrangements.
Freddie Ann Dangeau
1927-2002
HUMBOLDT: Freddie Ann Dangeau, 75, wife of Rev.
Orvind M. Dangeau for 59 years, died on Monday, December
23 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis after an
extended illness. Mrs. Dangeau was actively involved
with the music and youth programs of the churches where
the couple pastured, including First Baptist in
Somerville and McKenzie. Mrs. Dangeau was a graduate of
Forrest City High School in Forrest City, Arkansas and
attended Williams College of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas,
Union University of Jackson and Southwestern Baptist
Theological Seminary of Fort Worth, Texas. She was a
member of the First Baptist Church in Humboldt. She was
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard R. Porter, Sr. of
Forrest City, Arkansas. Survivors also include two
children, Charles Dangeau of Memphis and Marcia Garrett
of Southaven, Mississippi; three grandchildren, Cheyenne
Dangeau, Jonathan Garrett and Jennifer Garrett, all of
Memphis; two sisters, Rebecca Ann Priddy of Pencil
Bluff, Arkansas and Carol Dinkins of Hot Springs
Village, Arkansas and one brother, Bobby Zallacher of
Illinois. Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Friday,
December 26 at Shelton-Hunt Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Graveside services were at 3:00 p.m. at Barnishaw
Cemetery in Pine Tree, Arkansas.
Howell Green Butler, Jr.
1928-2002
BRUCETON: Services for Howell Green Butler, Jr., 75,
were at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, December 22 at Bruceton
Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bud Merwin and Bro. Gray
Burk officiating. Interment followed at Spelling
Cemetery in Buena Vista. He died on Friday, December 20
at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. Mr. Butler
was born on April 9, 1928 to the late Mr. Howell Butler
Sr. and Mrs. Oral Dew Campbell Butler. He was a retired
mechanic for DuPont, a member of the Mt. Nebo Baptist
Church, a World War II naval veteran and a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Jo Butler; a
daughter, Dr. Jan Butler of Bruceton, one son, Dr. Joe
Butler of Birmingham, Alabama; one sister, Wilmuth
Bridges of Bruceton and two grandchildren.
Lottie Mae Sullivan
1914-2002
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Lottie Mae Sullivan, 88, died on
Saturday, December 21 at the Baptist Memorial
Hospital. Funeral services were con-ducted on Monday,
December 23, at 3:00 p.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home
Chapel with Brother Lloyd Ray Rich officiating.
Interment followed in the Shiloh Cemetery, near
McKenzie. Mrs. Sullivan, the daughter of the late Jacob
Martin and Lessie Gray Thomas Harris, was born
November4, 1914 in Decatur County. She was a retired
employee of Rhodes Laundry and a member of the Enon
Baptist Church. Two brothers, Jonathan Harris and Lennie
Harris; one sister, Mary Ann Cary and two
great-grandchildren preceded her in death. Survivors
include Donnie Maria Balentine of Huntingdon;
three sons, William Sullivan and Willis Sullivan, both
of Huntingdon and Earl Sullivan of McKenzie; 14
grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Jessie Lee Edwards
1913-2002
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Jessie Lee Edwards, 89, died on
Wednesday, December 25 at the Methodist LeBonheur
Hospital in Jackson. Funeral services were conducted on
Saturday, December 28 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chase
Funeral Home Cemetery with Bro. Darrell Harris
officiating. Interment followed in the Obion
Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Edwards was born on August 3, 1913
in Perry County to the late Henry and Pearl Floyd
Edwards. He was a retired farmer and a World War II army
veteran. His wife, Rasylvia Edwards and one
granddaughter pre-ceded him in death. Survivors include
five daughters, Shelia Hilliard,
Darlene Pryor and Charlene Kelley, all of Huntingdon and
Debra Sands and Linda Trull, both of Cedar Grove; two
sons, Jesse Wayne Edwards and James Jeffrey Edwards,
both of Cedar Grove; three sister, Olli Bell
Taylor of Trezevant, Earlene Burnine of McLemoresville
and Sue Burnine of Indiana; fifteen grandchildren
and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Rubye May Canady
1912-2002
PARIS: Services for Rubye May Canady, 90, were at
2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 31 at 2:00 p.m. in
the LeDon Chapel, Ridgeway Funeral Home, with Bro. Jim
McKeel officiating. Interment followed in the Mt.
Pleasant Cemetery in Buchanan. Mrs. Canady, a homemaker
and member of Bethlehem Church of Christ, died on
Saturday, December 28 at Henry County Healthcare Center
in Paris. She was born on October 9, 1912 in
Sedalia, Kentucky to the late John Franklin Story and
Neva Hessie Fuller. Her husband, Noble Madison Canady,
preceded her in death on August 8, 1999. A daughter,
Mazelle Canady, five brothers, Rex, Zelner, Lathan,
Herbert and Ruble B. Story and a sister, Lou Doran, also
preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters,
Geraldine Sykes of Paris and Janice Ann Webb of
Mansfield; four grand-children; and four
great-grandchildren.
Mary Carolyn Bates
1930-2002
MCKENZIE: Services for Mary Carolyn Bates, 72, were
at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 31 at the First Baptist
Church in McKenzie with Bro. Dennis Trull officiating.
Interment will follow in Carroll Memorial
Gardens. Mrs. Bates, a homemaker and member of the First
Baptist Church in McKenzie, died on Sunday, December 29
at Methodist Hospital in McKenzie. She was born on June
15, 1930 to the late Irene Wimberly Nichols and
James Rex Nichols. Survivors include her husband, J.L.
Bates; two daughters, Alison Tyson of Jackson and Alesia
Cates of Jackson; two sister, Ruby Brawner of Lansing,
Michigan and Nancy Lyons of Las Vegas, Nevada; three
grandchildren, Crystal Ridley, Jake Cupples and
Carolyn Cupples; three great-grandchildren, Airan Reed,
Keylan Ridley and Alexis Winter. Brummitt Funeral
Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Myra Wirth Tafuro
1917-2002
MCKENZIE: Myra Wirth Tafuro, 85, died on Saturday,
December 28 at her residence. Mrs. Tafuro, the daughter
of the late Henry and Edith Geltz Agricola was born on
July 28, 1917 in Cypress Hills, New York. She was a
homemaker and a member of the First United
Methodist Church in McKenzie. Funeral services were
conducted on Tuesday, December 31 at 10:00 a.m. at the
First United Methodist Church with Rev. Harrell Nation
officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Maurice “Mo” Tafuro; two
sons, Rick Tafuro of Ocean Beach, New York and Bob
Tafuro of Holbrook, New York; one sister, Eadie Van
Nostrand of Henry; one brother, Harry Agricola of Henry
and two grandchildren, Lisa Docherty and Rod Tafuro.
Brummitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
