Buck Calbert
1926-2003
TREZEVANT: Graveside services for Buck Calbert, Sgt.
Major, U.S. Army, retired, were on Monday, June 30 at
2:30 p.m. at the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Mr.
Calbert, 77, died on Wednesday, June 25 at McKenzie
Regional Hospital.
He was a 25-year member of the United States Army and
served in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He
was a lifetime member of the McKenzie VFW Post #4935.
Survivors include his wife, Hoo Ham Calbert; two
daughters, Liz Calbert Swatsek of Los Angeles,
California and Ruth Calbert Haggart of Southaven,
Mississippi; one son, Ken Calbert Spencer of Rossville;
two sisters, Violet Kemp of Bridgeport, Alabama and
Martha Austein of Memphis; one brother, Billy Calbert of
Jacksonville, Florida; four grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Calbert’s name may be made
to the organization of the donor’s choice. Forest Hill
East Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Chester Roy Verner
1922-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Chester Roy Verner, 80, were
at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 27 at Brummitt Funeral Home
in McKenzie with Bro. Dennis Trull officiating. Burial
was in Whitfield Pavatt Cemetery in the Eagle Creek
Community of Benton County.
Mr. Verner, a farmer, died on Wednesday, June 25 at
Jackson Regional Hospital. He was a member of VFW Post
#4939 and served with the United States Army in World
War II with the 6th Calvary.
He was born On September 4, 1922 in Ducktown to the late
Lorence Harrison and Minnie Davis Verner.
Survivors include his wife, Mattie A. Sikes Verner; two
sons, Jim Verner of Camden and Charles Verner of
McKenzie; one daughter, Ann Maxwell of McKenzie; one
brother, C. Den Verner of Chantilly, Virginia; three
sisters, Jewel Blalock of Armory, Mississippi; Edna
Marshall of Ellijay, Georgia and Dorothy Davis of
Richmond, Virginia; nine grandchildren; and thirteen
great-grandchildren.
James Richard Duncan
1933-2003
SPRINGVILLE: Graveside services for James Richard
Duncan, 70, were at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 27 with
Rev. Gene Price officiating. Burial was in the Hopewell
Cemetery.
Mr. Duncan was disabled, but had been a heavy equipment
operator before retirement. He died at the Veterans
Hospital in Nashville on Monday, June 23. He was a
veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the VFW
in Union City. He was also a member of Mt. Olive Baptist
Church in Crystal.
Survivors include his wife, Flora B. Duncan; three
daughters, Janet Duncan of Springville, Karen Lawrence
of Buchanan, and Mererida Lee of Henry; one brother,
Homar Duncan of Jackson; one sister, Helen Crowe of
Milan; and five grandchildren.
His parents, Terry L. Duncan and Lila McDaniel Duncan
preceded him in death.
Roselle “Rosie” Priest Dunning
1917-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Roselle “Rosie” Priest
Dunning, 86, will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 2 at
Brummitt Funeral Home with Bro. Dennis Trull
officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mrs. Dunning, retired dress shop clerk, died on Sunday,
June 29 at Lifecare Center in Bruceton.
She was born on March 20, 1917 in Weakley County to the
late Iva Stafford Priest and Willie Priest. She was a
member of the First Baptist Church in McKenzie.
Survivors include a sister, Nell Deck; a
daughter-in-law, Carol Jean Dunning; a niece, Suzanne
Reed, all of McKenzie; and three grandchildren, Mike
Dunning, Jeff Dunning and Amy Dunning.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry
Dunning and a son Bill Dunning.
Jewel Goodman Moore
1915-2003
BRUCETON: Services for Jewel Goodman Moore, 87, were
at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 1 at Bruceton Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. Billy Joe Hilliard officiating. Burial
was in Crossroads in Benton County.
Ms. Moore, a partner in Ernie’s Steak House, died on
Saturday, June 28 at Jackson-Madison County General
Hospital.
She was born November 25, 1915 in Benton County to the
late Gilbert Burns Goodman and Ethel Abbott Goodman. She
was a member of Center Point Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Sherry Padilla of
California; a son, Ernest Lee Moore of Bruceton; and
three grandchildren.
Ralph Delmore Sampson
1937-2003
GLEASON: Services for Ralph Delmore Sampson were at
11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 28 at Gallimore Funeral Home
with Rev. Roy Auvenshine officiating. Burial was in the
Everett Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Sampson, 66, died Thursday, June 26 at Volunteer
Community Hospital.
He was born on January 3, 1937 in McKenzie to the late
Errol and Robbie Pate Sampson.
Survivors include two sons, Mark Sampson of Gleason and
Greg Sampson of McKenzie; a brother, Kenneth Sampson of
Gleason; a sister, Diane Kee of McKenzie; three
grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Albert Eugene “Gene” Biggart
1922-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Albert Eugene “Gene” Biggart, 81,
died Wednesday, June 25 at the Huntingdon Health and
Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were conducted
on Friday, June 27 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral
Home Chapel with Bro. Wayne Burton officiating.
Interment followed in the Carter’s Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Biggart was born January 1, 1922 in Carroll County
to the late Lucian and Mary Louise Merritt Biggart. He
was a member of the Huntingdon First United Methodist
Church, Huntingdon Elks Lodge, VFW of McKenzie and was a
World War II army veteran. He was also preceded in death
by one daughter, Deborah Ann Biggart, three sisters,
Lessie Carroll, Ethel Carroll, and Nellie Lawrence and
two brothers, Teddy Biggart and Leon Biggart.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Tucker and
Barbara McLain, both of Huntingdon; one son, Doug
Biggart of Westport, six grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
Bobby Gene McGuire
1937-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Bobby Gene McGuire, 65, died on
Saturday, June 21 in Newton, Iowa. Funeral services were
conducted on Wednesday, June 25 at 10:00 a.m. in the
Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Mackens and
Bro. Terry Bradshaw officiating. Interment followed in
the Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mr. McGuire was born on October 9, 1937 in Kellyville,
Oklahoma. He was a retired conductor for CSX Railroad
Company, a veteran of the army and a Methodist by
belief. His father, Lorn McGuire preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Martha Walton
McGuire; his mother, Denzyl McGuire of Depew, Oklahoma;
one daughter, Marty French of Bruceton; two sons, Jerry
McGuire of Bruceton and Larry McGuire of Cumberland
Furnace; one sister, Trela McKinzie of Depew, Oklahoma;
two brothers, Leon McGuire of Kellyville, Oklahoma and
Richard McGuire of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; five grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.
Wayne Springer
1918-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Wayne Springer, 84, died Tuesday, June
24 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, June 26 at
1:00 p.m. at the Clarksburg Church of Christ with Bro.
Bill Crossno and Brother Martin Klamm officiating.
Interment followed in the Sellers Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Springer was born June 28, 1918 in Carroll County to
the late Clarence and Lillian Simpson Springer. He was a
farmer and a member of the Clarksburg Church of Christ.
A brother, Henry Springer, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Raymell Dill
Springer; a daughter, Pansy Cary of Huntingdon; a son,
Billy Wayne Spring of Nashville; one brother, Harlon
“Pete” Springer of Huntingdon; seven sisters, Hester
Scott of Bemis, Lola Rosser of Hollow Rock, Vera
Collins, Mildred Bridges, Polly Simpson, Lorene Spring
and Alva Jean Boyd, all of Huntingdon; two grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Madeline Webb Reed
1926-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Madeline Webb Reed, 77, died on
Tuesday, June 24 at the Life Care Center in Bruceton.
Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, June 26 at
11:00 a.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Elder
Wendell Boyd officiating. Interment followed at Jamison
Cemetery.
Mrs. Reed was born June 20, 1926 in Westport to the late
Samuel and Erma Lee Hollowell Webb. She was a retired
employee for Publix Shirt Corporation and a member of
the Westport Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Thomas Enloe Reed, a
granddaughter, two sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include two daughters, Bevia J. Pierson of
Plainfield, Indiana and Ruthie L. Foster of Huntingdon;
two sons, Thomas W. Reed and Mike H. Reed, both of
Huntingdon; three brothers, Lester Webb of Huntingdon,
Wilburn Webb of Ft. Worth, Texas and David Webb of
Killeen, Texas; six grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren. |
