Thurman Lee Darnell Bannon
1929-2003
TREZEVANT: Services for Thurman Lee Darnell Bannon,
74, were at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 11 at Bowlin Funeral
Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial was in the Bradberry
Cemetery.
Mr. Bannon, retired factory worker, died on Wednesday,
July 9 at Baptist Hospital in Huntingdon.
He was born in Dresden to the late Alton and Maude
Bradberry Darnell. He was a member of the McLemoresville
Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Elliott Darnell
Bannon; a daughter, Peggy Bounds of Trezevant; two
brothers, John William Darnell of Water Valley, Kentucky
and Herman Lee Darnell of McLemoresville and two

1921-2003
Huntingdon: Funeral services for Mr. Lloyd W. “Bill”
Birdwell, 81, were conducted on Saturday, July 12 at
11:00 a.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with
Brother Kenneth Joines, minister of the Southhaven
Church of Christ in Southhaven, Mississippi officiating.
Interment followed in the Carroll Memorial Gardens. Mr.
Birdwell was born September 20, 1921 in Senath, Missouri
to the late Opal Blount and Clayton Birdwell.
Mr. Birdwell, who retired from the Tennessee Valley
Authority in 1989, died on Thursday, July 10 at
Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville. He was a
World War II veteran.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Addie Massey
Birdwell; two daughters, Sandra Bonds of Nashville and
Gail Geibel of Greenville, Kentucky; three
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one sister,
Alice “Tootsie” Williams of Huntingdon.
Rufus J. Goad
1919-2003
CEDAR GROVE: Services for Rufus J. Goad, 84, were at
2:30 p.m., Saturday, July 12 at Bodkin Funeral Home with
burial in Poplar Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Goad, a retired employee of the Milan Arsenal, died
on Wednesday, July 9 at Maplewood Healthcare in Jackson.
He was a member of the Lavinia Baptist Church. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Jewell Goad.
Survivors include his daughter, Joyce Moody and one son,
Aubrey Goad, both of Jackson; two sisters, Modean Ayers
of Nashville and Frances Jones of Milan; two
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Duane Lacy
1934-2003
PARIS: Narion Duane Lacy, 68, died on Wednesday,
July 9 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. The
body was cremated.
A memorial service was held for 2:00 p.m., Monday, July
14 at the First Baptist Church with Jerry Massey, Bob
Shull and Bennie Akers officiating.
Burial was in Hansel Cemetery, east of Paris.
Born in Paris on November 2, 1934, he was a son of the
late Frank Thomas “F.T.” Lacy and Elizabeth Avenelle
Underwood Lacy. He was married on December 22, 1978 to
the former Karen Burdick who lives in Reston, Virginia.
A U.S. Army veteran, Lacy was a Grove High School
graduate. He received a law degree from Memphis State
University, now the University of Memphis. He was
elected to the Tennessee State Legislature in 1960. In
addition to practicing law in McKenzie and Paris, he
became attorney for the U.S. Postal Service in 1968
where he worked for 35 years.
Lacy was also a legal lecturer in several states. A
former member of the First Baptist Church in Paris, he
was a member of the Reston, Virginia Bible Church at the
time of his death.
Survivors also include two daughters, Susan Hawksford of
Northville, Michigan and Kirsten Bruestle of Bemidji,
Minnesota; one son, Monty Lunt of Fairfax, Virginia; one
brother, Billy Maurice Lacy of Springville; one sister,
Betty Stubblefield Akers of Springville and eight
grandchildren.

Suite 200, Nashville, 37215.

Donald O. McClure
1952-2003
JACKSON: Paris native Donald Owen McClure, 50, died
on Wednesday, July 9 at his residence following a long
illness. Services were at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 11 at
Arrington Funeral Directors in Jackson. Burial was at
5:00 p.m., Friday in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Paris.
He was born August 5, 1952 to John and Geneva Owen
McClure, who live east of Paris.
McClure was a graduate of Henry County High School and
was a U.S. Army veteran. He worked for TVA for 27 years
as a dispatcher and hydro operator at the Pickwick
facility. He was a member of the Elks and Moose lodges,
VFW and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Dora McClure; two sons,
Allan Beecham of Henry and John McClure of Jackson; one
daughter, Paula Tate of Jackson; one brother, Ted
McClure of Flower Mound, Texas; a sister, Linda Pugh of
Paris; and two grandchildren.
James Lowell Mobbs
1935-2003
PINE BLUFF, ARKANSAS: Funeral services for James
Lowell Mobbs, 67, will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July
16 at White-Ranson Funeral Home Chapel in Union City
with reverend James Kinsey and Rev. Larry Hitesman
officiating. Burial will follow in Stanley Chapel
Cemetery in Union City.
Mr. Mobbs died on Sunday, July 13 at his home.
He was born August 23, 1935 in Union City to the late
Pow Hatten and Martha Hampton Mobbs. He was reared and
received his early education in Union City and graduated
from Woodland Mills Schools. He was a member of the
Northwestern Baptist Church in Union City, was a U.S.
Army veteran and had retired from Tyson Foods. He had
lived in Pine Bluff for the past 22 years.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Hayes Mobbs, whom he
married on December 9, 1957; a daughter, Sherrie
Chappell of Pine Bluff; a son, Jeff Mobbs of McKenzie;
three grandchildren and one brother, Kenneth Mobbs of
Union City.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
two brothers, Amos Mobbs and David Mobbs.
The family was to receive friends at White Ranson
Funeral Home in Union City on Tuesday evening from
5:00-8:00 p.m.
David Marvin Parker
1921-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for David Marvin Parker, 82, were
at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 11 at Brummitt Funeral Home
with Brother Fred Morris officiating. Burial was in the
Bethlehem Cemetery in Henry.
Mr. Parker, a retired factory worker, died on Wednesday,
July 9 at McKenzie Regional Hospital.
He was born August 19, 1921 in McLemoresville to the
late Bessie Birmingham Parker and James Chester Parker.
Survivors include one son, Gary Parker of Atoka; one
daughter, Dawn Miles of Nashville; three grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren. His wife, Evelyn Parker,
preceded him in death.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association
or the American Cancer Society.
Linda Joyce Patrum
1948-2003
PARIS: Mrs. Linda Joyce Patrum, 55, died on
Saturday, July 12 at the Jackson-Madison County General
Hospital. Graveside funeral services were conducted on
Monday, July 14 at the New Hope Cemetery near Gleason
with Brother Gary Collier officiating.
Mrs. Patrum, the daughter of the late James Henry and
Edith Heath Chandler, was born April 3, 1948 in
McKenzie. She was a certified nurse’s aide for Home
Health Care and a member of the Reorganized Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was also preceded
in death by two brothers, Jimmy Chandler and Joe
Chandler.
Survivors include one son, Lonnie Patrum of Paris; one
daughter, Dawn Patrum Langley of Gleason; two brothers,
Paul Chandler and Michael Chandler of Missouri and four
grandchildren.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Clifton Carl Seavers
1923-2003
TREZEVANT: Clifton Carl Seavers, 79, died on
Saturday, July 12 at McKenzie Regional Hospital.
Services were held on Monday, July 14 at 5:00 p.m. at
Union Academy Baptist Church in the Big Buck Community
near McKenzie with Bro. Bud Merwin and Bro. Bobby
Campbell officiating. Burial followed in Trezevant
Cemetery.
Mr. Seavers, son of the late Carl Bennett Seavers and
Callie Seavers Bartholomew of McKenzie Health Care
Center, was born December 16, 1923 in Lavinia where he
was also reared. He was a retired millwright from
Dupont, a local building contractor and a member of the
Union Academy Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Anne Ingram
Seavers of Trezevant; his mother and stepfather, Elmer
Bartholomew; one son, Wayne (Carolyn) Seavers of
McKenzie; three daughters, Brenda (Willie) Hinson,
Scarlett (Don) Barger and Amy (Tim) Ellington, all of
Trezevant; one brother, Carl Seavers of Huntsville,
Alabama; two sisters, Lorraine Kruger of Charlotte,
North Carolina and Carol Thomas of Plainsboro, North
Carolina; seven grandchildren, Ron Seavers of McKenzie,
Keliea Sanders of Huntingdon, Brad Barger of Lexington,
Terri Norval of Bruceton, Roxanne Young of Nashville,
Alan Hinson and Russell Pryor, both of Trezevant and
nine great-grandchildren, Dereck and Kyle Seavers, Beth
Anne and Dalton Young, Colin Laman, Delaina Norval,
Bailey and Jill Barger and Samantha Pryor.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Diane
Woodard; one sister, Frances Bennett Seavers and his
stepmother, Thelma Seavers.
Brummitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Max William Sneed
1908-2003
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA: Max William Sneed, 94, passed
away on June 9 at the Alpha Home. There were no
services.
Mr. Sneed was born in Carroll County on August 20, 1908
to Pink and Hannah Sneed. He was employed in maintenance
service at the IU Medial Center and retired in 1974. He
was the oldest member of the Webb Alumni Association.
Mr. Sneed was also an army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include two sons, William Sneed and Robert
William Sneed; one daughter, Maxine Sneed Phillips; five
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nine
great-great-grandchildren.
Crown Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
B.D. Waldrup
1922-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for B.D. Waldrup, 81, were at
3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 13 at Brummitt Funeral Home with
Bros. Tim Coleman, Vance Rushing and Paul Conquest
officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Waldrup, a retired employee of the Carroll County
Highway Department, died on Friday, July 11 at McKenzie
Regional Hospital.
He was born on January 28, 1922 in Mayfield, Kentucky to
the late Elsie Stroud Waldrup and Burnice Waldrup. He
was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He
was also a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church in
McKenzie.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Waldrup; a son, Bobby
Joe Waldrup of Nashville; a daughter, Linda Sue Morgan
of McKenzie; two stepdaughters, Penny McKinney of
McKenzie and Peggy Cole of Paris; two sisters, Margie
Hime and Iva Mae Fuzzell, both of McKenzie; seven
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Willie Sue
Waldrup.
Vaughn L. Walker
1921-2003
TREZEVANT: Services for Vaughn L. Walker, formerly
of Milan, were at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 12 at
Bodkin Funeral Home with burial in the Sunset Cemetery
in Dresden.
Mr. Walker, a retired employee of Jewell Tea Company,
died on Wednesday, July 9 at Milan General Hospital.
He was a member of the Faith Baptist Church and was a
U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, Jimmy Medlin.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Medlin Walker and a
stepdaughter, Linda Rimmer, both of Trezevant; six
step-grandchildren and 17 step-great-grandchildren.
Memorials or contributions may be made to the American
Cancer Society.
Sonya D. Williams
1962-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Sonya D. Williams, 40, died on
Tuesday, July 8 at her home. Funeral services were
conducted on Thursday, July 10 at 12:00 noon in the
Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Gary Burke
officiating. Interment followed in the McAuley Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams was born on July 25, 1962 in Greenfield.
She was an accounting clerk for Johnson Control in
Lexington; coached girl’s softball in Huntingdon and
attended the Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church. She was
preceded in death by her father, Raymond Thedford and
one brother, William Thedford.
Survivors include her husband, Anthony Lynn Williams;
her mother, Willodean Thedford of Trezevant; one
daughter, Amanda Faith Williams; one son, Gregory Mikel
Williams, both of Huntingdon; one sister, Patricia
Vaughn of Trezevant and two brothers, Garry Thedford of
Huntingdon and Raymond Thedford of Memphis.
Charlotte Duncan
1924-2003
TEXAS: Charlotte Duncan died Saturday, July 5, 2003
in Midland, TX. Charlotte was born on August 15, 1924 to
Harold Scott and Ethel Paris in Ocean City, New Jersey.
She attended the Moore Institute of Art in Philadelphia,
PA. Charlotte married David Duncan Jr. who was in the
Air Force. She was very active in the Officers Wife’s
Association. She moved to Midland, TX in 1995 and was
active in the Seniors Citizens Center where she enjoyed
the ceramic classes. She was also a member of the
Daughters of American Revolution.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, her
husband, one brother, and one sister. She is survived by
one son; David S. Duncan III of McKenzie; two daughters;
Zoe Wright of Midland, TX, and Karen Duncan of Atlantic
City, NJ; and four grandchildren.
Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 9 at
Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be held at a
later date at Cape May County Veterans Cemetery in Cape
May Courthouse, New Jersey. Arrangements were under the
direction of Ellis Funeral Home, Midland, Texas.
