  Bruce Giddens
1946-2003
HUNTINGDON:
Mr. Bruce Giddens, 47, of Wichita, Kansas, formerly of Huntingdon, died on Saturday, July 19 in Wichita. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, July 24 at 3:00 p.m. at the Huntingdon First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jerry Jeffords, Dr. William Bailey and Dr. Paul Mullikin officiating. Interment followed in the Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Giddens was born on February 6, 1957 in Jackson to the late Dr. Herbert Gray Giddens and Wilmoth Wynns Giddens. He was an industrial engineer manager for the Raytheon Aircraft Company and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Giddens; one daughter, Emily Giddens of Wichita, Kansas; two sisters, Gaye Gooch of Huntingdon and Dana Moffitt of Booneville, Mississippi.
Chase Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Milburn Jackson Markham
1917-2003
BRUCETON:
Services for Milburn Jackson Markham, 86, were at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, in the Bruceton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leonard Green officiating. Burial was in the Prospect Cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Mr. Markham, a retired truck driver, died on Sunday, July 20 at Camden General Hospital.
He was born on February 18, 1917 in Benton County to the late Chester Markham and Mary Allen Markham. A Baptist in faith, he was a World War II army veteran and received three bronze stars and a purple heart. He was a member of the Hollow Rock VFW Post #4349.
Survivors include his wife, Maudeline Boswell Markham; one daughter, Carole Moore of Bruceton; two sisters, Marie Chester of Martin and Louise Goodman of Nashville; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Jim Porter Hill
1932-2003
HENRY:
Graveside services for Jim Porter Hill, 70, were at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 21, at Palestine Cemetery with family members officiating.
Mr. Hill died on Saturday, July 19 at Henry County Medical Center.
A Henry County native, he was born in the Palestine community on September 17, 1932 to the late J.W. Hill, Jr. and Lucille Looney Hill.
He was married on October 24, 1954 to his lifelong sweetheart, the former Jane Wright, who survives. She was a registered nurse at Henry County General Hospital.
During the Korean War, he served his country as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star for valor, the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
He began his 35-year career with the L&N/CSX Railroad as a freight man clerk in Paris. He retired as regional sales manager in Southfield, Michigan.
Besides his wife, survivors include a son, Chad Hill of Mt. Juliet; a daughter, Lisa Parker of Henry; one brother, Joe Hill of Union City, two great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be made to the Henry County Cancer Care Center, 1290 Kelley Drive, Paris.

Willis E. Wade
1924-2003
PURYEAR:
Services for Willis Eugene Wade, 78, were at 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 21 at Ridgeway Funeral Home with Warren T. Sykes officiating. Burial followed in West Union Cemetery in Dresden.
Mr. Wade died on Friday, July 18 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was born August 21, 1924 in Sharon to the late James Hubert Wade and Ina Lynn Bolton Wade.
He was married to the former Virginia Ruth Chappell, who also preceded him in death. A sister also preceded him in death.
Wade retired from Holley Carburetor Plant, which was formerly located in Paris. He served as a military policeman in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include three daughters, Sherry Lambert of Mansfield, Nancy Johnson of Murray and Virginia Rogers of Water Valley, Mississippi; one son, Larry Wade of Murray; one sister, Lyndell Black of Gleason; three brothers, Billy Wade of Fort Myers, Florida and Raymond Wade and Hubert Wade, both of Leslie Michigan; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Lillie O. Adkisson
1929-2003
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA:
Services for Lillie O. Adkisson, 78, a former McKenzie resident, were on Saturday, July 19 at 1:00 p.m. a the Lavenia, Smith & Summers Home for Funerals, Inc. in Indianapolis with Rev. Darryl Davis officiating. Burial followed at the Crown Hill Cemetery of Indianapolis.
Mrs. Adkisson, a homemaker, died on Tuesday, July 15.
She was born on November 15, 1929 in Waverly to Mary Brigham Taylor, who survives, and the late Thomas Brigham. A brother, Clarence Brigham also preceded her in death.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband of 58 years, Carl Adkisson; three sons, Thomas, Gregory and Jeffrey; and seven grandchildren.

Charlie Howell Hart
1920-2003
CEDAR GROVE:
Services for Charlie Howell Hart, 83, were at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 29 at Bible Hill Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Mr. Hart died on Tuesday, July 24 at Lexington Manor Nursing Home.
Survivors include three daughters, Charlene Hart, Cookie Hart and Wanda Delores Elmore and one brother Willard Hart.
Stephenson-Shaw Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Virginia Coleman Vaughn
1928-2003
ATWOOD:
Services for Mrs. Virginia Coleman Vaughn, 74, were at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 26 at Bodkin Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Nichols and Rev. Phillip Lindsley officiating. Burial was in the Latham Chapel Cemetery near Medina.
Mrs. Vaughn, a retired licensed practical nurse with Douglas Nursing Home, died on Wednesday, July 23, at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Milan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion R. “Doc” Vaughn.
Survivors include a stepson, James Ray Vaughn of Toone; a brother, Charles O. Coleman of Lavinia; and three daughters, Coretha Nichols of Mt. Pleasant, Mary Bettie of Winder, Georgia and Sandra Bixler of Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina.

James Edward Clark
1946-2003
CEDAR GROVE:
Mr. James E. Clark, 57, died on Wednesday, July 23 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were conducted on Friday, July 25 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Wayne Burton officiating. Interment followed in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cedar Grove.
Mr. Clark was born on January 4, 1946 in Jackson and was a disabled maintenance worker for Milan Compress. His father, Ben Julian Clark, one brother, Billy Dean Clark and one sister, Mary Jo Clark all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Shirley Roberts Clark; one daughter, Sherwin Odom of Huntingdon; his mother, Lillie Mae Clark of Clarksburg; one sister, Frances Milam of Clarksburg; one brother, Gene Clark of Huntingdon and two grandchildren.

Joe Harold Hester
1936-2003
HUNTINGDON:
Mr. Joe Harold Hester, 66, died on Saturday, July 26 at his home. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, July 28 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Johnny Boyd officiating. Interment followed in the New Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Hester was born on December 17, 1936 in Carroll County to the late Thomas Hardy and Ira Viola Gooch Hester. He was a member of the Westport Missionary Baptist Church, a retired technician for Proctor and Gamble Company, a Vietnam air force veteran and had retired from the National Guard after 35 years of service. Two brothers, James Thomas Hester and William Hardy Hester also preceded him in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Cindy Cagle of Jackson, Nancy Umstead of Dyer and Kim Massey of Bells; one son, Joe Hester, Jr. of Huntingdon; eight sisters, Helen Sparks of Camden, Glenda Gail Bell of Yuma, Sandra Milam of Portageville, Missouri, Mary Ann Oatsvall, Martha Pearson, Alice Mitchell, Betty Hollingsworth and Barbara Kay Rust, all of Huntingdon; two brothers, Darrell Gooch Hester of Buena Vista and Larry Dale Hester of Wildersville; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Barbara Ann Odle Roberson
1944-2003
HUNTINGDON:
Services for Mrs. Barbara Ann Odle Roberson, 59, were on Monday, July 28 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John Baptist Church in McKenzie with Minister Valorie Ragland officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Atwood.
Mrs. Roberson died on Friday, July 25 at Huntingdon Health and Rehab Center in Huntingdon.
She was born on April 2, 1944 in Linden to the late Clara Odle.
Survivors include one daughter, Andrea Anders of Atwood; one son, Derrick Adams of Atwood; and four grandchildren.
Trinity Funeral Home in Paris was in charge of the arrangements.

Henry David Moss
1928-2003
HUNTINGDON:
Mr. Henry David Moss, 74, died on Sunday, July 27 at the Life Care Center in Bruceton. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, July 29 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Vincent LaPlanca officiating. Interment followed in the Hampton Cemetery.
Mr. Moss was born on November 14, 1928 in Hardin County to the late Robert Hardy and Emma Lou Walls Moss. He was a retired painter and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Two brothers, Robert Moss and Arthur Moss also preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Lillie Mae Newell Moss; three daughters, Judy Mae Sanford and Carolyn Gilley, both of Huntingdon and Tammy Gibson of Atwood; two sons, David Wayne Moss of Jackson and Paul Moss of Huntingdon; two brothers, Joe Thomas Moss of Humboldt and William Hugh Moss of Bradford; nine grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Damon Devon Hines
1916-2003
HUNTINGDON:
Mr. Damon Devon Hines, 86, died on Wednesday, July 23 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, July 26 at 2:00 p.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Clubb and Walter Butler officiating. Interment followed in the Liberty All Cemetery.
Mr. Hines was born on December 10, 1916 to Henry and Kate Hines in Medaryville, Indiana. He lived in North Judson, Indiana until he left to serve in World War II. He was a member of the U.S. Army band and later served in the Rainbow Division infantry and was on the front line at the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
While stationed at Camp Tyson, he met and married Lucy Butler on May 3, 1944. Mr. Butler worked for “The South Bend Tribune” and “The Jackson Sun” and was director of the Carroll County American Bridge Contract League.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years and one daughter, Kathy Hines of Huntingdon.

Mercedes Becerra
1961-2003
MCKENZIE:
Mrs. Mercedes Becerra, 41, died on Tuesday, July 22 at her home. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, July 24 at 4:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Ed Fisher officiating. Interment followed in the Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Becerra was born on November 12, 1961 in Guadalajara. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Prudencio Becerra and her parents, Salvador and Francisca Urenda Hernandez.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Rita Pritchard
1941-2003
MCLEMORESVILLE:
Mrs. Rita Pritchard, 62, died on Monday, July 21 at the Life Care Center in Bruceton. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, July 24 at 1:00 p.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Lynn Stapleton and Buddy Chandler officiating.
Mrs. Pritchard, the daughter of the late Rufus and Geneva Pharis Griffis, was born on May 12, 1941 in Screven, Georgia. She was a member of the McLemoresville Baptist Church and an employee of Henry I. Siegel. A sister, Elenor Griffis also preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Dannie Pritchard; a son, Danny “Bubba” Pritchard, Jr. of Huntingdon; two daughters, Tammy Pritchard of McLemoresville and Geneva Rumley of Huntingdon; a brother, Rufus Griffis of Macon, Georgia; a sister, Marvalene Boyd of Macon, Georgis and four grandchildren.

James Marvin Reeder
1913-2003
MCKENZIE:
James Marvin Reeder, 89, died on Friday, July 25 at the Henry County Medical Center in Paris. Graveside services were held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, at the Obion County Memorial Gardens in Union City with Rev. Fred Thomas officiating.
Mr. Reeder, a tool and die worker, was the son of the late James Ethan Reeder and Vennie Pearl McMillan Reeder. He was born on December 20, 1913 in Weakley County. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Louise Sublett Reeder and three sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by one sister, Mary Nell Hardy of Plymouth, Michigan.
White-Ranson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Carol Ann Scruggs
1957 - 2003
McKENZIE:
Carol Ann Scruggs, 46, of McKenzie, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at the Life Care Center in Bruceton. Funeral services for Ms. Scruggs were held Thursday, July 24, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in Hopewell Cemetery in Atwood. Rev. Alan Trull officiated the services.
Ms. Scruggs was a LPN at McKenzie Health Care, as well as a member of the Henry United Methodist Church. She was born June 27, 1957 in Milan to the late Carl Connell and Geneva Connell.
