Vaynelle Arnold
1928-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Vaynelle Arnold, 75, were at
2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 8 at Brummitt Funeral Home with
Rev. Jimmy Ricketts officiating. Burial was in the
Seminary Cemetery. Mrs. Arnold, a retired factory
worker, died Monday, May 5 at McKenzie Regional
Hospital. She was the widow of Andrew Arnold. She was
born March 25, 1928 in Weakley County to the late Lottie
Hubble and E.P. "Pete" Hubble. Survivors include a son,
Danny Williams of Odenton, Maryland; a daughter, Carolyn
Crocker of Gleason; a brother, L.C. Hubble of McKenzie;
a sister, Inez Reeves of McKenzie; four grandchildren,
Paula Doede, Ricky Crocker, Renae Creveling and Joann
Williams; and eight great-grandchildren. She was also
preceded in death by two brothers, Leslie Hubble and
Desel Hubble and a grandson, Micheal Crocker.
Sara Ann Campbell
1940-2003
GREENFIELD: Services for Sara Ann Campbell, 62, were
at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 8 at Williams Funeral Home
in Greenfield with burial in Brock's Cemetery. Ms.
Campbell died on Monday, May 5 at Brakeville Nursing
Home in Knoxville. Survivors include two daughters, Lynn
Lannom of Greenfield and Pam Porter of Knoxville; two
brothers, Joe Campbell of Knoxville and Roy Campbell of
Dyersburg and four grandchildren.
Earline Galloway Scott
1926-2003
TREZEVANT: Services for Earline Galloway Scott, 76,
were at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 9 at Brummitt Funeral
Home in Trezevant with Bro. Jimmy Yarborough
officiating. Burial was in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery in
McKenzie. Ms. Scott, retired from HIS in Trezevant, died
on Wednesday, May 7, at Douglas Nursing Home in Milan.
She was born on December 20, 1926 in Trezevant to the
late Maggie G. and Earl Galloway. Survivors include her
husband, Charlie V. Scott of Trezevant; a son, Johnny
Scott of Trezevant and a daughter, Debbie Hammett of
Milan; three grandchildren, Philip Galloway and Angie
Williams of Trezevant and Patricia Harris of Milan and
10 great-grandchildren.
Kathleen Summers Peery
1923-2003
GLEASON: Services for Kathleen Summers Peery, 79,
were at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 6 at Bowlin Funeral
Home Chapel in Dresden with the Revs. Terry Griffin, Tom
Winchester and Dwayne Thomas officiating. Burial
followed in the West Union Cemetery. Mrs. Peery, owner
and operator of Ore Springs Grocery, factory worker and
caregiver to the elderly, died on Sunday, May 4 at her
residence. She was born in Weakley County to the late
Zobulyn and Iva Watson Summers. He was a factory worker
and care giver to the elderly. She was also a member of
the West Union Baptist Church in Dresden. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Fred William Peery.
Survivors include two daughters, Shara P. Goode of
Dresden and Karen P. Jones of Paris; two sisters,
Lucretia Gallimore of Dresden and Shirley Vaice of Bear,
California; six grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
Bobby L. Lowe
1939-2003
BRUCETON: Services for Bobby L. Lowe, 63, were at
2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 8 at Stockdale-Malin Funeral
Home Chapel with burial in Old Pisgah Cemetery. Mr. Lowe
died on Monday, May 5 at his residence. Survivors
include his wife, JoAnn Lowe, a son, Kim Lowe; three
sisters, Iva Mae Waldrup, Helen Cooper and Marie Nelson
and two grandchildren.
Richard Baxter
1952-2003
CEDAR GROVE: Services for Richard Baxter, 50, were
at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 7 at Reed's Chapel in
Lexington. Burial followed in Spain Cemetery. Mr. Baxter
died on Monday, May 5 at Henderson County Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Ginger Baxter; his mother,
Margaret Baxter of Cedar Grove; two sisters, Sharon
Depriest of Cedar Grove and Sandra Prince of Lexington
and several nieces and nephews. His father, Connie
Baxter and a brother, David Baxter, preceded him in
death.
Charlotte Maness Smothers
1950-2003
HOLLOW ROCK: Mrs. Charlotte Maness Smothers, 53,
died on Saturday, May 10 at the Baptist Memorial
Hospital in Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted
on Monday, May 12 at 2:00 p.m. at the Barren Springs
Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Bro. Tim Maness and
Bro. Bobby Campbell officiating. Interment followed in
the church cemetery. Chase Funeral Home was in charge of
the arrangements. Mrs. Smothers was born on May 3, 1950
in Lexington. She was a retired sewing machine operator
for the Henry I. Siegel Company and was a member of the
First Baptist Church of Bruceton. Her father, Junior
Maness preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband,
Kenny Smothers; her mother, Katherine Maness of Buena
Vista; one daughter, Stacey Jackson of Camden; on son,
Brent Jackson of Huntingdon; one sister, Sue Smith of
Buena Vista; one granddaughter; three step-grandchildren
and one step-great grandson.
Ruth Dycus McKenzie
1917-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Ruth D. McKenzie, 85, died on
Friday, May 9 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in
Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday,
May 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the Huntingdon Church of Christ
with Bro. Bill Goodpasture officiating. Interment
followed in the Carroll Memorial Gardens. Chase Funeral
Home was in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. McKenzie
was born June 13, 1917 in Dyer to the late An- drew and
Mary Francis Moser Dycus. She was a member of the
Huntingdon Church of Christ, an instructor of Piano
Lessons and a deputy clerk for the Carroll County
Courthouse for many years. She was also preceded in
death by her husband, W.E. "Mack" McKenzie, who died in
December, 1979; three brothers, Howard Dycus, Herbert
Kirby Dycus, and Benjerman Franklin Dycus and one
grandson, who died in 1991. Survivors include one
daughter, Judy McKenzie Baker of Huntingdon; two
sisters, Faye Waldrup of Collierville and Mildred
Eubanks of Dyersburg; two grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.
Leoca Rowland Bennett
1911-2003
HOLLOW ROCK: Services for Leoca Rowland Bennett, 91,
were at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 6 at Bruceton Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. William McClarin officiating.
Burial was in the Bethlehem Cemetery in Rosser. Mrs.
Bennett, a retired clerk for the U.S. Postal Service,
died on Sunday, May 4 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in
Huntingdon. She was born in Hollow Rock on October 4,
1911 to the late John Arthur Rowland and Liza Austin
Rowland. She was a member of the Prospect Baptist
Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband,
William Roy Bennett. Survivors include one daughter,
Florence Jenkins of Hollow Rock.
Thelma Louise Poindexter
1921-2003
ATWOOD: Services for Thelma Louise Poindexter, 83,
were at 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 13 at Bodkin Funeral
Home in Milan. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery. Mrs.
Poindexter, a retired employee with U.S. Rubber, died on
Saturday, May 10 at her residence. She was a member of
the First United Methodist Church in Milan. Her husband,
Joe Donald Poindexter preceded her in death. Survivors
include a special friend, Paul Featherston of McKenzie;
two sons, Billy Joe Poindexter of Memphis and Jerry
Donald Poindexter of Nashville; three sisters, Mildred
Argo of Morristown, Dean Tolley of Atwood and Sarah
Fields of Milan; one brother, Radie Williamson of
Atwood; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Edward Wright Robbins
1922-2003
HOLLOW ROCK: Services for Edward Wright Robbins, 80,
were at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 13 with Rev. James
Daniel officiating. Interment followed in the New
Prospect Cemetery. Mr. Robbins, a special equipment
operator for TVA, died on Sunday, May 11 at Baptist
Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. He was born October 17,
1922 in Lauderdale County to the late Claude Elmer
Robbins and Mattie Valeria Roye Robbins. He was a member
of the Bruceton Masonic Lodge #731 and Masonic rites
were held on Tuesday, May 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral
home chapel. Survivors include his wife, Odelle Robbins;
two daughters, Betty Forbess of Huntingdon and Wanda Kay
Presson of Chattanooga; two sons, Charles Robbins of
Huntingdon and Kenneth Robbins of Camden; one brother,
Ted Robbins of Crossville; eight grandchildren and eight
great- grandchildren.
Dallas Ray Owen
1927-2003
GLEASON: Services for Mr. Dallas Ray Owen, 76, were
at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 9 at Gallimore Funeral Home
with Dr. Maurice Hollingsworth officiating. Burial in
Old Union Cemetery. Mr. Owen died on Wednesday, May 7 at
Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. He was born in
Gleason on April 21, 1927 to the late Claude and Zela
Mae Raffety Owen. Mr. Owen was retired from the U.S. Air
Force and from McDonnell Douglass Aircraft Corporation.
He was the Senior Vice-Commander of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post 410 and a member of the American
Legion and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Survivors
include his wife, Sarah Ruth Owen of Lexington; a son,
Richard Alan Owen of Lexington; a sister, Roe Ann Ford
of Dresden and two grandchildren. A brother, Harmon Owen
also preceded him in death.
Pauline Brown
1914-2003
DETROIT, MICHIGAN: Pauline Brown, 89, died on
Sunday, April 20 in Detroit. Services were held at
Carter Metropolitan at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 28 with
Rev. Dr. Clarence Buchanan officiating. Interment was in
the Gethsemane Cemetery in Detroit. Mrs. Brown was born
September 9, 1914 in McKenzie to the late Homer Sparks
and Carrie Manley Sparks. She professed a faith in
Christ at an early age and joined the Johnson Temple.
C.M.E. Church, under the leadership of Rev. R.B.
Johnson. "Brown" as she was affectionately known was
united in marriage to John Brown, who preceded her in
death. They made their home in Detroit. She was an
active member of the Word of Truth Church until she
became physically disabled Survivors include one sister,
Imogene Ankton, also of Detroit; four nieces, six
nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
Paul Jeter Webb
1923-2003
GLEASON: Services for Paul Jeter Webb, 80, will be
at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 14 at Gallimore Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Pence officiating. Interment
will follow at Hopewell Cemetery. Mr. Webb, retired
owner of Webb Sheet Metal Company, died on Saturday, May
10 at NHC Healthcare in Milan. He was born on February
9, 1923 in Gleason to Robert and Sudie Milam Webb. He
was a member of the Blooming Grove Methodist Church. He
was also preceded in death by four brothers, Arthur
Webb, Clifton Webb, Woodrow Webb and Roy Webb. Survivors
include his wife, Marjorie Gibson Webb of McKenzie; one
son, Rodger Webb of Bartlett, Illinois; two brothers,
James Milam Webb of McKenzie and Oscar Lee Webb of
Dover, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Allie V. Holland
1918-2003
GLEASON: Services for Allie V. Holland, 85, were at
2:00 p.m., Monday, May 12 at the Gallimore Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. Roy Auvenshine officiating. Burial was
in the Hopewell Cemetery. Mrs. Holland died on Saturday,
May 10 at the General Care Convalescent Center in
Clarksville. She was born March 5, 1918 in Sharon to the
late John Andrew Matthew and Ora Lee Boulton Doster. Her
husband, Loyd Brown Holland also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Joe Holland of Columbia and
Roger Holland of Brownsville; one daughter Joyce Tuck of
Clarksville; one sister, Fern Juanita Suehs of
Hillsboro, Missouri, 11 grandchildren and 12
great-grandchildren.
Dorothy W. Webb
1918-2003
GLEASON: Services for Dorothy W. Webb, 84, were at
2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 10 at Gallimore Funeral Home
Chapel with Bro. Bill Debardaleben officiating.
Interment followed in New Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Webb, a
retired accountant, died on Wednesday, May 7 at
Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. She was born on
July 26, 1918 in Haynerville, Alabama to the late
William Bennie and Gladys Hill Woodall. Her husband,
Duane Webb, also preceded her in death. Survivors
include one son, Duane Webb, Jr. of Tucker, Georgia; one
daughter, Linda Davis of Dresden; one brother, William
Bennie Woodall, Jr. of Haynerville, Alabama; one sister,
Elsie Mae Atchison of Lownesboro, Alabama; six
grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Bonnie Jane Damesworth
1919-2003
GLEASON: Services for Bonnie Jane Damesworth, 84,
were at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 6 at the Gallimore
Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Chuck Richardson and Bro.
Jeremy Damesworth officiating. Burial was in the
Ebenezer Cemetery in New Johnsonville. Mrs. Damesworth,
a homemaker, died on Saturday, May 3 at her daughter's
residence in Newbern. She was born February 27, 1919 in
Hustburg to the late Elonzo Ross and Mary Louella
Cravens Jackson. She was a member of the Northside
Church of Jesus Christ. Her husband, Stanley Maloy
Damesworth and four children also preceded her in death,
Gladys Damesworth, Petie Damesworth, Eston Damesworth
and Rebecca Damesworth. Survivors include four sons,
Tony Damesworth of Gleason, Jimmy Damesworth of Hammond
Louisiana, Dean Damesworth of Gleason and John
Damesworth of Halls; five daughters, Edith Wynn of
Paris, Judy Hammond and Debra Lock of Dyersburg, Linda
Tabor of Hayti, Missouri, and Nancy Blevens of Newbern;
one brother, Max Jackson of Waverly; 29 grandchildren
and 35 great- grandchildren.
William James Gargus
1933-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for William James Gargus, 69,
will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14 at Brummitt
Funeral Home in McKenzie with Pastor Don Simmons and
Pastor Jerry Roach officiating. Interment will be in Mt.
Olivet Cemetery. Mr. Gargus, a U.S. Postal Service
employee died on Saturday, May 10 at Jackson-Madison
County General Hospital. He was born on October 9, 1933
in Beloit, Wisconsin to the late Clarence and Ruth Reedy
Gargus. He was a member of the Paris Church of the
Nazarene. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Goeman
Gargus; one son, Danny Gargus of Arlington; one daughter
Susan Gargus Molsberger and her husband Shawn of
Atlanta, Georgia; his father-in-law Gus Goeman of
McKenzie; one sister, Bonnie Osland of Janesville,
Wisconsin; and one cousin, Beverly Goeman of McKenzie.
His mother-in-law, Barbara Goeman and one sister, Jean
Cary, also preceded him in death.
