Charles Gilbert Summers
1935-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Charles Gilbert Summers, 68,
were at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 9 at Cedar Avenue
Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home with the Rev. Wray
Forrest officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Summers, retired salesman for B.R. Supply in
McKenzie, died on Friday, November 7 at Regional
Hospital in Jackson.
He was born June 12, 1935 in Henry to the late Mary
Helen McCord Summers and Herbert Summers. He attended
New Bethel Baptist Church in Henry.
Survivors include his wife, Blondell Underwood Summers;
a son, Keith Summers of McKenzie; two sisters, Thelma
Hall and Valla Ree Parr, both of McKenzie; two
grandchildren, Jennifer Summers and Amanda Lewis, both
of McKenzie; and one great-grandchild, Asia Nicole Lewis
of McKenzie.
Perlie Mae Bartholomew
1930-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Perlie Mae Bartholomew, 73, died
Tuesday, November 4 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in
Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted on
Wednesday, November 5 at 3:00 p.m. at the New Hope
Baptist Church in Yuma with Brother Phillip Halters
officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Bartholomew was born April 9, 1930 in Yuma to the
late Henry E. and Josie Morgan Todd. She was a homemaker
and a member of the New Liberty Missionary Baptist
Church. She was preceded in death by three sisters,
Betty Floyd, Rosemary Floyd and Lavinia Hicks.
Survivors include her husband, John Mack Bartholomew;
two daughters, Myra Wilson and Janice Perry, both of
Huntingdon; two stepsons, Johnny Bartholomew and James
Sidney Bartholomew; one brother, Wilfred Todd of
Huntingdon; four grandchildren; three
step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two
step-great-grandchildren.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Curtis A. Bowden
1940-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Curtis A. Bowden, 62, were at
2:00 p.m., Friday, November 7 at Cedar Avenue Chapel of
the McKenzie Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Carr
officiating. Burial was in the Caledonia Cemetery.
Mr. Bowden, retired die-setter/motor wheel corp. in
Lansing, Michigan, died on Wednesday, November 5 at
McKenzie Regional Hospital. He was also employed at
Holley Carburetor and the Henry Farmers Co-Op in Paris.
He was born November 9, 1940 in Cottage Grove. He was a
member of the Cottage Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Fay Runions Bowden; two
daughters, Brenda Dial of Atwood and Cathy Gallimore of
Nashville; his mother, Lillie Ruth Lawrence of Paris;
two sisters, Lillie Mae Odom and Mary Nell King, both of
Paris; a brother, Robert Bowden of Cottage Grove; five
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter C. Bowden
and a brother, James Bowden.
Julia Mitchell Herring
1927-2003
BRUCETON: Services for Julia Mitchell Herring, 76,
were at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 1 at Bruceton
Funeral Home Chapel with Father Ed Fisher officiating.
Burial was in the Prospect Cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Mrs. Herring, retired framing consultant for J.L. Hudson
Department Store, died Monday, October 27 at St. Mary's
Hospital in Livonia, Michigan.
She was born July 25, 1927 in Bruceton to the late John
Lawrence Mitchell and Margaret Ann Gorman Mitchell. She
was a member and secretary of St. Bernadine's Catholic
Church.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Lawrence Herring of
Livonia, Michigan; a sister, Margaret Hurt of Martin and
a brother Joe Mitchell of Bruceton.
Her husband, Thomas E. Herring preceded her in death.
Birdie Mae Lowe Morris
1914-2003
HUNTINGDON: Services for Birdie Mae Lowe Morris, 89,
formerly of Trezevant, were at 2:00 p.m., Thursday,
November 6 at Brummitt Funeral Home in Trezevant with
Bro. Bill Goodpasture officiating. Burial was in
Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery in McKenzie.
Mrs. Morris, widow of R.B. Morris, died Tuesday,
November 4 at Huntingdon Health and Rehab Center.
She was born June 9, 1914 in Trezevant to the late Ida
Mae Lamb Lowe and J.T. Lowe. She was a member of the
Trezevant Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son, Donald Morris of Atwood; a
daughter, Billie Joe Morris of Trezevant; three
grandchildren, Anthony Morris of Milan and Dusty Morris
and Cristy Morris, both of Atwood; three
great-grandchildren, Mikayla Morris, Davison Morris and
Carson Morris, all of Milan; seven brothers, Mitchell
Lowe, Lonnie Lowe, Leon Lowe, Halford Lowe, Earl Lowe,
Arthur Lower and Perry Lowe and three sisters, Bertha
Peale, Iona Allen and Lois Lowe, all preceded her in
death.
Edith Estelle Rosser
1930-2003
CLARKSBURG: Mrs. Edith Estelle Rosser, 73, passed
away Friday, November 7 at her home. Funeral services
were conducted on Sunday, November 8 at 2:00 p.m. at the
Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Billy Ringold and
Bro. Martin Klamm officiating. Burial followed in the
Sellers Hill Cemtery.
Mrs. Rosser was born February 3, 1930 in Carroll County
to the late David H. and Lucy Dill Eskew. She was a
retired cook for the Clarksburg School and a member of
the Clarksburg Church of Christ. She was also preceded
in death by two brothers, Martin Eskew and Carlos Eskew.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, James Rosser;
one daughter, Beth Garrott of Nashville; one son, Steve
Rosser of Clarksburg; two sisters, Leona Chandler and
Ruth Bennett; two brothers, James Eskew and Ray Eskew,
all of Huntingdon; and five grandchildren.
Leon Pershing Smith
1918-2003
GLEASON: Services for Mr. Leon Pershing Smith, 85,
were at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 7 at Gleason First
Christian Church. Burial was in Murray City Cemetery in
Murray, Kentucky.
Mr. Smith, a retired self-employed brick mason and
builder, died Wednesday, November 5 at Jackson-Madison
County General Hospital.
He was born December 7, 1918 to the late Ernest and
Morie Smyth Smith. He was a member of the Gleason First
Christian Church and a World War II veteran.
Joseph Scott Patterson
1964-2003
MAUK, GEORGIA: Memorial services for Joseph Scott
Patterson, 39, were held on Thursday, November 6 at 2:00
p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home in Butler, Georgia with
Rev. Scott Tucker officiating. Mr. Patterson passed away
on Tuesday, November 4. He had lived in Lawrenceville
before moving to Butler one year ago.
Survivors include his wife, Ronie Patterson of Mauk; one
son, Jason Patterson of Lawrenceville; one stepson, Mark
Davis of Mauk; his father, Jimmy Lee Patterson of
McKenzie; one brother, Tony Patterson of Thomaston; one
sister, Robin Peoples of Thomaston; a stepsister, Denise
Love of Birmingham, Alabama; one granddaughter, an
uncle; several nephews and several cousins.
Robert W. Webb
1922-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Mr. Robert Wade Webb, 81,
were at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 11 at McKenzie
Funeral Home with the Revs. Vance Rushing, Dennis Beal
and Claude Prince officiating. Burial was in the Shiloh
Cemetery.
Mr. Webb, retired from Auto Body Repair Shop, died on
Sunday, November 9 at his residence.
He was born August 28, 1922 in McKenzie to the late Rosa
Etta Felty Webb and John Baptist Webb. He was a deacon
at Enon Baptist Church, a charter member of the VFW Post
#4939 and a Mason, 32 degree Scottish Rites.
He was a World War II U.S. Army combat engineer and
received the Bronze Star.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary Katherine
Sutton Webb; his son, Jeff Webb of Spring Hill, Florida;
grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Reynolds, Meredith Nicole
Reynolds, Sarah-Katherine Reynolds and Stacey Lynn Webb.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rosemary
Reynolds, as well as 12 brothers and sisters: Sarah
Webb, Margaret Jane Harris, Joseph Thomas Webb, Pina
Ellen Gibson, Lucinda Pryor, Daniel Dee Webb, Minnie Mae
Purvis, Willard Louis Webb, Johnnie Weslie Webb, Charles
Henry Webb, and Mary Adaline Cozart.
Marion L. Harris
1916-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Marion L. Harris, 87, will be
at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 13 at Johnson Temple
CME Church. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Brummitt Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Harris, widow of Claude Harris, died Saturday,
November 8 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
She was born January 31, 1916 in McKenzie to the late
Minnie Haynes Jones and Robert L. Jones. She was a
member of Johnson Temple CME Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorris (Thomas) Woodard of
McKenzie; three grandchildren, Sarita Oglesby (Tommy) of
Palm Springs, California, Deborah Williams (Ricky) of
Indio, California; and Tory Woodard of Nashville; and
two great-grandchildren, Aaften Oglesby and Austin
Oglesby.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 12 from
4:30-7:00 p.m. at Brummitt Funeral Home.
