  Rev. Frank Scott Cowan
1924-2003
MADISONVILLE, KENTUCKY:
Services for Rev. Frank Scott Cowan, 78, were at 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 8 at Eastview Baptist Church in Madisonville with Rev. T.D. Stubblefield of the First Baptist Church in Chesterfield, Missouri and Rev. Norris Mills of Eastview Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in the New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Sturgis, Kentucky.
Rev. Cowan died on Wednesday, September 3 at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
He was born on November 11, 1924 in Buchanan to the late Tab Frank Cowan and Racheal Lightfoot Cowan. He attended Western Oak Grove Elementary School and Central High School in Paris and was pastor of New Salem Baptist Church in Sturgis, Kentucky for over 23 years. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Irene Dawson Cowan.
Survivors include three daughters, Helen Cowan of Louisville, Kentucky, Brenda Cowan of Lexington, Kentucky and Myrtle Cowan of Madisonville, Kentucky; three sons, Rev. Glen Cowan and Fred Cowan, both of Madisonville, Kentucky and Lynwood Cowan of Orlando, Florida; two sisters, Ernestine Travis and Onita Bunton, both of Springville and 10 grandchildren.
Trinity Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Etta Chapman Barfield Dyer
1921-2003
MIFFLIN:
Services for Mrs. Etta Chapman Barfield Dyer, 82, were on Wednesday, September 3 in the chapel of the Leon Johnson Funeral Home with burial in the Mifflin Cemetery. 
Mrs. Dyer died on Monday, September 1 at the home of her daughter in Murfreesboro from complications from Alzheimer's disease.
She was a native of Carroll County and was a daughter of the late John D. and Mellie Harvey Chapman. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Samuel A. Barfield and her second husband, Claude Dyer, who died May 20, 2003. She was a member of the Mifflin Baptist Church and was a retired cafeteria manager from Tigrett Junior High School.
Survivors include two sons, Louis Barfield of Huntsville, Alabama and J.P. Barfield of Nashville; one daughter, Mrs. Linda Mandrell of Murfreesboro; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Brenda Kellow and Mrs. Lorna C. Howell, both of Lebanon and Mrs. Glenda Atkins of Jackson; one stepson, Mike Dyer of Jackson; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Bates of Russellville, Arkansas and Mrs. Marie Martin of Dallas; four grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Chapman and John D. Chapman, Jr.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Murfreesboro Alzheimer's Association or the Mifflin Baptist Church.

Roxie Lee Christian
1922-2003
HUNTINGDON:
Mrs. Roxie Lee Christian, 81, died Saturday, September 6 at her home. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, September 7 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Wayne Holmes officiating. Interment followed in the Humbles Cemetery.
Mrs. Christian was born on May 25, 1922 in Henry County, to the late Heston and Nannie Lee Malone Hayes. She was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and a retired cook for the Carroll County Nursing Home. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Mary Olive Nolen and one brother, Buster Hayes.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Rochester "Pee-Wee" Christian; two daughters, Glenda Mae Butler and Marsha Christian; one son, Billy Hayes Christian all of Huntingdon; one grandson and three great-grandchildren.

Celia Bessie Fry
1908-2003
CEDAR GROVE:
Mrs. Celia Bessie Fry, 95, died on Friday, September 5 at the Life Care Center in Bruceton. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, September 7 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Brett Mebane and Bro. Robert Barger officiating. Interment followed in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cedar Grove.
Mrs. Fry was born on February 8, 1908 in Cedar Grove to the late Leone and Jayne Woodard Adams. She was a member of the Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church and a homemaker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Logan Fry, who died February 26, 1993 and one daughter, Patsy Ruth Fry Mebane, who died October 25, 1968.
Survivors include two granddaughters and two great-granddaughters.

Mary Ann Herron
HUNTINGDON:
Mary Ann Herron died on Sunday, August 31 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Services were held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, September 2 at the Huntingdon Church of Christ with Ray Ivy, Buster Norden and Bill Goodpasture officiating. Burial followed in the Henderson City Cemetery.
Mrs. Herron was the daughter of the late Judge and Mrs. Jere Galbraith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Herron, who passed away in 1979. She was a retired employee of 33 years with the Carroll County D.H.S. and was an active member of the Huntingdon Church of Christ.
Mrs. Herron also received the "Silver Medallion Award" for the most outstanding citizen of Carroll County in 1977.
She is survived by one daughter, Dr. Kitty Ben Mahoney of Nashville and two grandsons. Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. 

Katherine Wray
1923-2003
GLEASON:
Katherine Wray, 80, died on Saturday, September 6 at her home. Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 9 at the First United Methodist Church in Gleason. Burial was in the Hopewell Cemetery. Gallimore Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Brian Smith, Monte Bowers, Jay Oliver, Ryan Tucker, Evan Tucker, and Joshua Hollowell served as pallbearers.
Mrs. Wray was born on February 12, 1923 in Houston, Mississippi to Robert and Ruth Duke. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gleason for 64 years. She and her husband Bob were beloved UMYF counselors for several years and influenced the lives of many young people in Gleason. Many friends and family members were the recipients of handcrafted Christmas egg ornaments as well as her all occasion gifts of coconut cakes and pies. An avid gardener, Miss Katherine would often say that she promised God she would "tend the roses if He would make them grow."
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Bob Steve Wray; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kitty and Johnny Oliver of Gleason, Leesa and Steve Tucker of Bolingbrook, Illinois and Jan and Mike Hollowell of Tullahoma; nine grandchildren, Shelly Bryan Bowers, Jay Oliver, Courtney Bryan Baker, Carrie Hollowell, Ryan Tucker, Joshua Hollowell, Evan Tucker, Leizha Hollowell and Katie Tucker and one great-grandchild, Seth Bowers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jo Nell Mattox and brother, Robert Harold Duke.
The family requests memorials be sent to Gleason First United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Chestine King
1916-2003
HUNTINGDON:
Mrs. Chestine King, 86, formerly of Carroll County, died on Friday, August 29 at the Baptist Hospital in Nashville. Graveside funeral services were conducted on Sunday, August 31 at 1:00 p.m. at the Oak Grove Cemetery with Reverend Robert Simmons officiating.
Mrs. King, the daughter of the late Orval and Ethel Norden Ashby, was born on September 5, 1916. She was a homemaker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Merle King, who died on February 15, 1983 and a son, Billy Wayne King, who died April 7, 2002.
Survivors include three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. 

William D. "Willie" Poore
1930-2003
DRESDEN:
Services for William D. "Willie" Poore, 73, were at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 9 at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery.
Mr. Poore, a retired auto dealer, died on Saturday, September 6 at his home.
He was born in McLeansboro, Illinois to the late Clyde and Lena Venable Poore. He was a Baptist, a U.S. Army Korean Conflict veteran, a member of the D.A.V., American Legion Post #94 and Gleason Masonic Lodge #330.
Survivors include his wife, Velverly King Poore; four daughters, Linda Hussein and Elaine Chandler, both of Dresden, Reba Rodriguez of Gleason and Brenda Poore of Benton, Illinois; four sons, Wendall Poore and William Poore, both of McKenzie, Cecil Poore of Jackson and Wade Poore of Dresden; two stepdaughters, Markena Walters of Clinton, Kentucky and Valerie Ashley of Dresden; a stepson, Michael Nelson of Palmersville; a sister, Julie Ann Matheny of McLeansboro, Illinois; a brother, Ray Poore of Lawton, Michigan and 27 grandchildren.

Zula Mae Simmons
1910-2003
HOLLOW ROCK:
Mrs. Zula Mae Simmons, 92, formerly of Memphis, died on Friday, August 29 at the Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, August 31 at 11:00 a.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Kevin Holland officiating. Interment followed in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis.
Mrs. Simmons, the daughter of the late John Oscar and Julia Elizabeth Dunlap Simmons, was born December 5, 1910 in Henry County. She was a retired sales clerk for Oak Hall Men's Store and a member of the Audubon Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include a brother, John Thomas Simmons of the Mixie Community; three half-brothers, Tommy Simmons, Sammy Simmons and David Simmons, all of Henry County; two nieces and several great-nieces and nephews. 

Rev. Hillman E. Walker
1938-2003
HOLLOW ROCK:
Services for Rev. Hillman E. Walker, 65, were at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 6 at Stockdale-Malin Chapel in Camden with burial in the Crossroads Cemetery.
Rev. Walker died on Wednesday in Germantown. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a minister and an entrepreneur.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Webb Walker; two daughters, Tina Walker and Kimberly Walker Crain; four sisters, Faye Holladay, JoAnn Blow, Mozell Jones and Jean Foster and two grandchildren.

Marie Thomas Wilson
1925-2003
HOLLOW ROCK:
Services for Marie Thomas Wilson, 78, were at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, September 6 at Bruceton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert White officiating. Burial was in the Prospect Cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Mrs. Wilson, a retired bookkeeper died Thursday, September 4 at Life Care Center in Bruceton. She was born June 23, 1925 in Hollow Rock to the late George Washington and Jessie Mae Prince Thomas.
She was a member of the Hollow Rock United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Roland E. Henning of Nashville and Dolan L. Wilson of Marietta, Georgia; a sister, Lura M. Klatt of Muskegan, Michigan; a brother, David Thomas of Nashville; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Audrain Wilson. 

Royce Kenneth Wilson
1947-2003
DRESDEN:
Mr. Royce Kenneth Wilson, 56, died on Thursday, August 28 at the Volunteer General Hospital.
He was born August 14, 1947 in Maine to the late Norman Kenneth and Geannie Whitam Wilson. He was a self-employed mechanic.
Survivors include a daughter, Desiree Wilson; one son, Ryan Wilson, both of Mayfield, Kentucky; and one brother, Rick Wilson of California.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. 

Verda Lena Wooters
1915-2003
HUNTINGDON:
Mrs. Verda Lena Wooters, 87, died on Sunday, August 31 at the Life Care Center in Bruceton. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, September 2 at 11:00 a.m. at the Twin Oaks Church of Christ with Bro. Steve Wilkinson and Brother Donny Gateley officiating. Interment followed in the Twin Oaks Cemetery.
Mrs. Wooters was born on December 27, 1915 in Carroll County to the late Homer and Lyda Mann. She was a homemaker and a member of the Twin Oaks Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Boyd Wooters, who passed away in September 1991 and one son, Jerry Wooters who passed away in 1987.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Wooters of Huntingdon and Glenn Wooters of Shelbyville, Kentucky; three daughters, Betty Thompson and Arlene Wilkes, both of Huntingdon and Carol Wentworth of Colonial Heights, Virginia; one sister, Arlene Daniels of Murfreesboro; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Tensil Enzor
1916-2003
ATWOOD:
Services for Mr. Tensil Enzor, 87, were at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 6 at the First United Methodist Church in Atwood with burial in the Pisgah Cemetery.
Mr. Enzor, a retired employee of Cory Foam, Inc. died on Wednesday, September 3 at his home.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Espey Enzor and Winsome Enzor. 
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Enzor of Atwood; one son, Steve Enzor of Medina; one stepson, Jerry Howell of Hollow Rock; one stepdaughter, Cindy Butler of Goodlettsville; one sister, Ruth Samuels of Atwood; one grandson and six step grandchildren.
Mr. Enzor was the oldest member of the First United Methodist Church in Atwood and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Bodkin Funeral Home in Milan was in charge of the arrangements.

Onie Mae Luter
1917-2003
MCLEMORESVILLE:
Mother Onie Mae Luter, 85, died on September 5. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Luter and children, Johnetta Moore and Billy Luter.
Survivors include her children Fred Luter of Gary, Indiana, Linda Hicks of Chicago, Illinois, Samuel Luter of McLemoresville, and Mary Jordan, Agnes Gatewood and Paul Luter, all of Nashville; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Family visitation will be on Wednesday, September 10 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church at 1109 32nd Avenue, Nashville. The praise service will follow with Pastor Jimmy D. Greer, Sr. officiating. Family visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. with funeral services to be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 11 at New Reedy Creek Missionary Baptist Church in McLemoresville with Pastor Kenneth Hillsman officiating. Interment will follow.
