Jessie Cornelia Armstrong Ainley
1924-2003
DRESDEN: Services for Jessie Cornelia Armstrong
Ainley, 79, were at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 22 at
Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the New Hope
Cemetery in Latham.
Mrs. Ainley died on Saturday, September 20 at
Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
She was born near Sharon to the late Robert Lee and
Josephine Bone Doster. She was a member New Hope Baptist
Church near Latham.
Survivors include her husband, Ray Ainley; two
daughters, Rebecca Cheatham of McKenzie and Nelda Brewer
of Russellville, Alabama; two stepdaughters, Brenda
Kelley of Dresden and Debbie Rust of McKenzie; a son,
Kelly Barber of Parkersburg, West Virginia; a stepson,
David Ainley of Houston, Texas; a sister, Carmen Parrish
of St. Louis, Missouri; eleven grandchildren and ten
great-grandchildren.Raymond Cecil Blackwell
1916-2003
CEDAR GROVE: Services for Raymond Cecil Blackwell,
87, were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 19 at
Pafford Funeral Home in Lexington. Burial was in Hickory
Flat Cemetery in Cedar Grove.
Mr. Blackwell, a retired sawmill employee, died
Wednesday, September 17 at Jackson-Madison County
General Hospital.
Survivors include his daughter, Doris Richardson of
Cedar Grove; a son, Sidney Wayne Blackwell of Lexington;
sisters Maureen Webb and Annie Loys Mathney, both of
Jackson; four grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.
Roy Dandy Crocker
1951-2003
MCKENZIE: Services for Roy Dandy Crocker, 52, were
held on Saturday, September 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Brummitt
Funeral Home in McKenzie with Bro. Randy Vowell
officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in
McKenzie.
Mr. Crocker, a retired upholsterer, died on Wednesday,
September 17 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was born on February 23, 1951 in McKenzie to the late
Elmer Odell and Nettie Cunningham Crocker. He was a
member of Cooper's Chapel Baptist Church in McKenzie. He
was also preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Lee
Crocker, Charles A. Crocker and Troy Lynn Crocker and
one sister, Alice Fay Taylor.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine H. Crocker; two sons,
Patrick R. Crocker and Ryan Crocker, both of McKenzie;
three brothers, Ray Crocker, Don Crocker and Bobby
Crocker, all of McKenzie; two sisters, Betty Foss and
Carolyn Clement, both of Paris; and one grandchild, Beth
Crocker.
Mae Overcast
1929-2003
PARIS: Virginia Mae Overcast, 74, died on Thursday,
September 18 at her residence. Services were held at
2:00 p.m., Sunday at McEvoy Funeral Home with the Rev.
Alan Trull of Henry United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial was in the Foundry Hill Baptist Church.
She was born May 21, 1929 in Henry County to the late
Clydous Lee Berkley and Artie Ola Hastings Berkley. She
had retired from Tecumseh Products in Paris. She was
also a member of the Bethany Independent Missionary
Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Cathy Turner of Vale,
Cindy Byars of Henry and Cheryl Miller of Paris; two
sons, Randy Overcast and Ricky overcast, both of Paris;
two sisters, Sue Paschall of Ohio and Carolyn Edwards of
McKenzie; two brothers, Leon Berkley of Paris and Elroy
Berkley of Missouri; ten grandchildren, five
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lucy Ann
Berkley in infancy and Lucille Wimberley; two brothers,
Clydous and J.W. Berkley and an infant granddaughter.
U.L. "King Fish" Fisher
1927-2003
PURYEAR: Gibson County native U.L. "King Fish"
Fisher, 76, died on Thursday, September 18 at the
Plumley Rehabilitation Center in Paris. Services were
held at Bodkin Funeral Home in Milan. Burial was in the
Walnut Grove Cemetery near Trenton. Mr. Fisher was
married on November 12, 1950 to the former Alice Jo
Stavely, who survives.
He was born April 6, 1927 in Trenton to the late William
Jesse Fisher and Laura Mae Petty Fisher. He was a
self-employed carpenter and painter.
Survivors include two sons, David (Diane) Fisher of
McKenzie and the Rev. Lyndel (Sherry) Fisher of Newbern;
a daughter, Janet D. Moody of Puryear; one sister,
Audrey Cross of Trenton and five grandchildren, Jonathan
David Fisher, James Daniel Fisher, Andrea Fisher (Brian)
Jackson, Angel Hutchens and Jesse K. Moody.
The family request memorials be made in Fisher's name or
in honor of grandson Jesse Moody to St. Jude Children's
Research Hospital in Memphis.
Lardine Strayhorn Kirby
1939-2003
HUNTINGDON: Services for Lardine Strayhorn Kirby,
64, were held Saturday, September 20 at 1:00 p.m. at Mt.
Pleasant Baptist Church in Parkers Crossroads. Burial
followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Kirby was born on January 9, 1939 in Lexington to
the late Willie Strayhorn and Jessie Mae Pritchard. She
was also preceded in death by her husband, Prentice
Kirby; one daughter, Peggy Williams; one sister, Della
Mae Abbage; two brothers, William Thomas Straynorn and
Billy Joe Strayhorn; and one half-brother, Patrick
Williams. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist
Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Joann Jordan, Charlene
Irvin and Mary Williams all of Huntingdon and Evelyn
Stanford of Lexington; six sons, Lorenzo Williams and
Glen Howard, Jr., both of Lexington and Eric Williams,
Tony Williams,Dwight Williams and Joe Williams, all of
Huntingdon; one half-brother, Charles Williams of
Parkers Crossroads; two sisters, Pearlie Deberry of
Huntingdon and Fay Edwards of Cape Cauraldo, Illinois;
two brothers, Don Browning of Virginia and Robert
Browning, Jr. of California; 26 grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
Trinity Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Carlus R. Owen
1920-2003
MADISONVILLE: Carlus R. Owen, 83, died on Tuesday,
September 16 at East Tennessee Healthcare in
Madisonville.
Locally he leaves a brother, Dewey L. Owen of Henry and
a sister-in-law, Virginia Owen of Paris.
Services were held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 19 at
Biereley-Hale Funeral Home in Madisonville with the Rev.
Curtis Woods and Dr. Long Shoopman officiating. Burial,
with military honors provided by Sweetwater VFW Post
5157 were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 20 at
the Haven Hill Memorial Gardens in Madsonville.
Owen, who was the son of the late Euin L. and Essie
Owen, was the widower of Carolene Mason Owen. He was a
retired schoolteacher, a Baptist and a member of the
U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Survivors also include a son, Charles Owen of
Madisonvile; two brothers and sisters-in-law Max and
Willene Mason of Niota and Huge and Marilyn Maughan of
Athens and Loretta Coward of Fort Worth, Texas.
Two brothers also preceded him in death.
Lucille Marie Smith
1929-2003
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Lucille Marie Smith, 74, died on
Saturday, September 20 at Life Care Center in Bruceton.
Services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September
22 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mickey
Myers officiating. Interment followed in Ridgegrove
Cemetery in Lexington.
Mrs. Smith was born February 11, 1929 in Henderson
County to the late Brady and Myrtle Johnson Hart. She
was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by one
sister, Eva Gean Rea and two brothers, Raymond Hart and
Bobby Hart.
Survivors include four daughters, Becky Zurofsky of
Lexington, Susan Britt of Jacks Creek, Gina Stubblefield
of Lexington and Janette Singleton of Cedar Grove; three
sons, Lewis Cary of Cedar Grove, David Smith of Union
City and Michael Smith of Hollow Rock; four sisters,
Veleta Bishop of Memphis, Pansy Henry of Paris, Chris
Rogers of Arkansas and Judy McCann of Jackson; two
brothers, Aaron Hart of Huntingdon and Steve Hart of
Cedar Grove; 16 grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren.
Wilford Tharpe
1928-2003
PARIS: Services for Wilford Tharpe, 75, were at
11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 20 at New Hope United
Methodist Church in Mansfield with the Rev. Hamilton
officiating. Interment followed at the New Hope Church
Cemetery with Trinity Funeral Home in charge of the
arrangements.
Mr. Tharpe died on Tuesday, September 16 at the Henry
County Medical Center. He was a member of the New Hope
Church.
He was born July 3, 1928 in Mansfield to the late Keith
B. Tharpe and Winnie Babe Tharpe.
Survivors include three sisters. Esserdean Travis,
Juanita Harris and Esther Robinson, all of Chicago,
Illinois and one brother, Gene Tharpe of Mansfield.
James Wilburn White
1952-2003
LEXINGTON: Mr. James Wilburn White, 51, died on
Tuesday, September 16 from injuries he received in an
automobile accident.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday, September 19
at 1:00 p.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with
Brother Bernie Birdwell officiating. Interment followed
in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cedar Grove.
Mr. White was born August 17, 1952 in Steel, Missouri to
the late Roy Douglas and Mary Walls White.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Sue Hood of
Cedar Grove and Jamine White of Bowling Brook, Illinois;
one son, Jimmy White of Illinois; and one brother, Roger
White of Cicero, Illinois.
Norma Ann McMullin
1962-2003
MEMPHIS: Norma Ann McMullin, 41, formerly of
McKenzie died on Tuesday, September 16 of injuries
sustained in a car accident near Kingman, Arizona.
She is survived by her mother, Peggy Ann Downing, a
sister, Cindy McMullin, a brother, Matthew McMullin, all
of Memphis and her father, (Ret.) Capt. Tom McMullin of
Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Peggy Wiggleton Hervatine
1957-2003
SQUAW VALLEY, CALIFORNIA: Technical Sergeant Peggy
Jo Hervatine, 46, formerly of McKenzie, died on Tuesday,
September 16 as a result of injuries sustained in a car
accident near Kingmon, Arizona.
She was born in McKenzie and was a 1974 graduate of
McKenzie High School. Sgt. Hervatine dedicated
twenty-eight years to military service. At the time of
her death, she was serving with the 144th Fighter Wing
of the California Air National Guard, based in Fresno,
California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Nellie
Wiggleton of McKenzie. Survivors include her husband
(Ret.) Colonel Bob Hervatine of Squaw Valley,
California; a brother, Buddy Wiggleton of McKenzie; and
nephews Scotty Wiggleton of Hopkinsville, Kentucky and
Jamie Wiggleton of Nashville. Burial will be in
Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. |
