The Lifetouch Photographers will
be at our school on Friday, September 5, to take
school-day pictures. All freshmen, sophomores, and
juniors will have their photographs taken for the
yearbook at this time. All students will have the
opportunity to purchase photographs using the pre-pay
envelopes that were distributed last Friday.
Students should bring the envelope and money if they
choose to purchase these lifelong mementos. Again,
that will be this Friday, September 5, at 8:00 A.M.
Because of its importance, let
me remind everyone of our Parent-Teacher Conference
scheduled on Thursday, September 11. This will
mark the 4 ½ week period in our first semester and is
an excellent time to meet with teachers about the
progress of their student. It is often wrongly
thought that once students reach high school, parental
responsibility lessens. If anything, it is even
more critical for parents to stay in contact with
teachers and staff to insure that a student graduates
and that the student develops definitive plans for the
future. I encourage all parents to visit your
school on Thursday, September 11. The time
of the conference will be from 3:30P.M. to 6:30 P.M.
We ask that if you cannot come to the conference to call
the school to speak with a teacher during regular work
hours.
The delivery of class rings is
always an exciting time for our juniors, and that time
is near. On Wednesday, September 10, the Balfour
representative will have rings to distribute to the
juniors who ordered them last spring. I have
posted a list of students who ordered rings and the
balance that they owe for this final transaction.
Balfour will not accept personal checks. They will
accept cash or money orders made payable to Balfour.
Balfour has handled our class ring order for over 30
years and is a reputable company that guarantees its
work. The company is very good about re-sizing
misfit rings or correcting problems that they are
responsible for. The representative will be here
during lunch on September 10 to deliver to students who
have paid their balance in full.
Our cross county team will begin
its competitive season on Tuesday, September 9, at USJ
in Jackson. Cross country athletes run 3.1 miles in a
variety of terrains. They combine speed, stamina,
and determination to master the sport. This year
our cross country coach is first-year teacher Christina
French who teaches physical education at the elementary
school. Competing for the girls are freshmen
Caitlin Blackwell and Katya Kesterson, sophomore Ashley
Murrey, and seniors Sarah Hartz and Amber King.
Boys competing in cross country include sophomores Lee
Barham, Matthew Blaylock, Zach Drye, Holland Hames,
Chance Hudgins, James Lee, Chase Mitchell, Caleb Owen,
Brice Priestley, and junior Jason Bloodworth.
The golf teams had a big week
with three scheduled matches. On Tuesday, the team
traveled to Sharon in a three-way match with Dresden and
Trenton. The girls lost to the two teams, but were
led by junior Megan Cox with a 59. The boys won
their two matches in upping their record to 8-0.
Sophomore Marshall Smith had a 38 to earn the medalist
for the match. On Wednesday, the teams traveled to
Paris Landing to have a match with Henry County High
School. The girls fell to the host team, but had a
good show from freshman Kristi Petering with a 57 and
sophomore Courtney Creasy with a 59. On Friday the
team returned home for a three-way match with Clarksburg
and Huntingdon.
The Rebel golf team improved to
10-1 with wins over Gleason and Clarksburg yesterday.
Craig Broadbent tied for Medalist with a 37. Other
scorers recording were John French with a 40, Beau
Brown, 40, and Marshall Smith, 41. The
Lady Rebels were led by Courtney Creasy and Tish
Brown’s 58’s in a loss to Gleason.
The McKenzie Band Boosters will
have an important meeting on Tuesday, September 9, at
7:00 P.M. in the High School Theater. The purpose
of the meeting will be to discuss the spring trip to
Orlando, Florida, and to discuss fundraising for the
event and personal financial responsibility. The
band traditionally takes a trip every four years to
perform at a tourist or historical attraction. The
cost of the trip is quite expensive and requires a
committed fundraising effort to succeed. Please
support these students as they prepare for this
memorable event.
The band has also worked hard
after school in preparing its halftime show and its show
for the competitive season. They practice from
Fourth Block to 4:30 and 5:00 P.M. in preparing a
quality show. The 55-man band will begin its
competitive season at the Milan Invitational on
Saturday, September 20. The following week they
journey to the Gibson County Invitational. On
October 4, the band will attend the JCM Invitational
and/or Dyersburg Invitational. They will end the
pre-state competition on October 11 with the Obion
County Invitational at Troy. On October 18, the
band will conduct an all-day mini-camp at Rebel Stadium.
They will end the season on October 25 with the Division
I State Competition at Murfreesboro. Support our
band and Band Boosters as they represent our school at
these different venues.
On September 16, a representative from Ken-Tenn Sports
will be here to take jacket orders. These letter
jackets will be for students who earned letters for
basketball or any of our spring sports or for those who
earned an academic letter. As soon as I learn the
amount of the deposit payable to Ken-Tenn, I will inform
the students. |
