E.B. “Buzz” Tanner
1921-2004
UNION CITY: Funeral services for Emerson Beck “Buzz”
Tanner, father of U.S. Congressman John Tanner of Union
City, were at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 10 at
White-Ransom Funeral Home in Union City with Bishop
Richard L. Saunders and the Rev. Tom Murdock
officiating. Burial was in Eastview Cemetery in Union
City.
Tanner, 82, died Thursday, April 8 at Baptist Memorial
Hospital in Union City.
His wife, Carolyn Hubbard Tanner survives. They were
married on September 5, 1998. His first wife, Edith
Sumners Tanner, preceded him in death after 54 years of
marriage.
Born June 17, 1921 in Obion County, he was the son of
the late Walker and Dorothy Beck Tanner. He was a World
War II army veteran. He worked at Union City Insurance
Agency and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints in Fulton, Kentucky.
Additional survivors include two other sons, Dr. Robert
Ty Tanner of Waynesboro and Rodger Tanner of Union City;
two stepdaughters, Liz Upshaw of Houston and Margaret
Neese of Union City; one brother, Bill Tanner of Union
City; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, three
step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Lena Mae Perritt
1921-2004
BRUCETON: Mrs. Lena Mae Perritt, 83, died Monday, April
5 at the Life Care Center in Bruceton. Funeral services
were conducted on Wednesday, April 7 at 10:00 a.m. in
the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Scott Carter
officiating. Interment followed in the Shiloh Cemetery
in McKenzie.
Mrs. Perritt was born February 5, 1921 in Carroll County
to the late Gabe and Vera Davis Williams. She was a
homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Gabe Perritt.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Maxie Neely of

Annie Marie Reynolds
1915-2004
MCKENZIE: Mrs. Annie Marie Reynolds, 88, died Friday,
April 9 at McKenzie Regional Hospital. Funeral services
were conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 12 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Clint Ezell
officiating. Interment followed in Shiloh Cemetery in
McKenzie.
Mrs. Reynolds was born September 20, 1915 to the late
Issac and Rosa Lena Britt Vancleave. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Tom Reynolds, three sons, William
Isaac Reynolds, Charles Reynolds and Tommy Blake
Reynolds; two grandchildren, Howard Reynolds and Kathy
Reynolds; three sisters, Lura Bouldin, Irene Chandler
and Verna Wilson.
Survivors include two daughters, Anita Boulais of
Fairborn, Ohio and Karen Heisterkamp of West Linn,
Oregon; one sister, Roberta Moore of Little Rock,
Arkansas; one brother-in-law George Wilson of McKenzie,
ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

James W. Wilcox
1909-2004
HOLLOW ROCK: Mr. James W. Wilcox, 94, died Wednesday,
April 7 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday, April 9 at
2:00 p.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother
James Daniels officiating. Interment followed in the
Long Rock Cemetery.
Mr. Wilcox was born April 28, 1909 in Carroll County to
the late Henry Otha and Estelle Conners Wilcox. He was a
member of the Twin Oaks Church of Christ and a farmer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Mae Wilcox,
who passed away on October 22, 1998 and three sisters,
Nina Jean, Jewell McAdams and Cappie Presson.
Survivors include a song, Harlan Wilcox of Huntingdon

Betty L. Duke
1936-2004
HOLLOW ROCK: Mrs. Betty L. Duke, 67, died Thursday,
April 8 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, April 10 at
1:00 p.m. at the Fairview Baptist Church with Bro. Bob
Ivy officiating. Interment followed in the church
cemetery.
Mrs. Duke was born September 19, 1936 to the late Cecil
and Sally May Howard Niesler. She was preceded in death
by a brother, Jessie E. Richardson, Sr. and a sister,
Mildred Gaskin.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Smothers of Hollow
Rock and Jerry Smothers of Nashville; one sister, Mary
Lou Hinson of Jackson; and a brother, C. Everett
Richardson, Jr. of Dana, Indiana.

Linnie Bell Lowery
1930-2004
TREZEVANT: Services for Linnie Bell Lowery, 73, were
held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 10 at Pleasant Green
Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Holly Leaf. Burial was
in Pleasant Green Cemetery.
Mrs. Lowery, a factory worker, died Wednesday, April 7
at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
She was born June 22, 1930 in Trezevant, daughter of the
late Bertha and Wrintha Williams Lowery. She was a
member of the Pleasant Green Presbyterian Church in
Holly Leaf.
Survivors include her husband, Alfred Lowery of
Trezevant; sons Daniel Lowery of Orlando, Florida, Jack
Lowery of Milan and Doug Lowery of Trezevant; a sister,
Marie Cole of Knoxville; a half-brother, Paul Walker of
Trezevant; seven grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
Brummitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Louise R. Jones
1925-2004
CEDAR GROVE: Services for Mrs. Louise R. Jones, 78, were
held at 2:00 p .m. on Monday, April 12 in the
Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Don
Cooper officiating. Burial was in Highland Memorial
Gardens in Jackson.
Mrs. Jones died Saturday, April 10 at West Tennessee
Transitional Care in Jackson.
She was born in Scotts Hill to the late Finis and Viola
Mae Cannon Grice and was educated in the local schools.
Mrs. Jones was the retired owner/operator of retirement
homes in both Jackson and Cedar Grove. She was a member
of the Lavinia Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter and
a sister, Ruth Moody.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby L. Jones of Cedar
Grove; a daughter, Thedolia Kay Setty of Cedar Grove;
two sister, Dorothy Rambo of Jackson and Lena Lucille
Mays of Lexington; a brother, James Clinton Cannon of
Lavinia; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren;
two great-grandchildren and six
step-great-grandchildren.
Bobby Thomas Argo
1929-2004
TREZEVANT: Services for Mr. Bobby Thomas Argo, 74, were
held Monday, April 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Brummitt Funeral
Home in Trezevant with Brother Malcolm Norton
officiating. Burial was in Trezevant Cemetery.
Mr. Argo died Friday, April 9 at the Tennessee State
Veterans Home in Humboldt.
He was born September 30, 1929 in Trezevant to the late
Felix E. and Octa Walker Argo and was a retired employee
of Henry I. Siegel Company in Trezevant.
Surviving are a daughter, Joy Poindexter of Jackson and
three sons, Mark B. Argo of Sheffield, Alabama, Tommy
Argo of Trezevant and John Argo of Lawrenceburg.
Elna Irby Henderson
1909-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Mrs. Elna Irby Henderson, 94,
were on Sunday, April 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Walton Grove
Presbyterian Church in Henry, where she was a member,
with Pastor Albea of Walton Grove officiating. Interment
followed in Shiloh Cemetery in McKenzie.
Mrs. Henderson died Thursday, April 8 at McKenzie
Regional Hospital in McKenzie.
She was born September 22, 1909 in Guntown, Mississippi
to the late Elijah Irby and Clifford Irby. She was also
preceded in death by her husband, Dorris Henderson who
died in 1996.
Survivors include two daughters, Velma Taylor of
Knoxville and Jean Edwards of Detroit, Michigan; a son,
Dwight Henderson of McKenzie; six grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren.
Elva Kee King
1912-2004
BUENA VISTA: Services for Elva Kee King, 91, were at
3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 9 at Bruceton Funeral Home
Chapel with Bro. Clarence Noles officiating. Burial was
in McAuley Cemetery.
Mrs. King, retired elementary school teacher for the
Hollow Rock-Bruceton Special School District, died
Wednesday, April 7 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in
Huntingdon.
She was born August 18, 1912 in Buena Vista to the late
William Henry Kee and Lula Ozier Kee. She was a member
of Mt. Nebo Baptist and Bruceton Order of the Eastern
Star #314.
Survivors include a sister, Sue Beachboard of Madison,
several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lee
“Pete” King.
Liggie Franklin Cordle
1956-2004
BATH SPRINGS: Funeral services for Mr. Liggie Franklin
Cordle, 47, were conducted on Sunday, April 11, at 3:00
p.m. in the Decatur County Funeral Home Chapel with Bro.
Danny Pettigrew and Bro. Joe Wood officiating. Interment
followed in Grays Chapel Church Cemetery.
Mr. Cordle, a truck driver and farmer, passed away on
Saturday, April 10 at Decatur County General Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Josie Hollowell Cordle; two
daughters and two sons, Renee Gooch of Yuma, Angie
Wadley of Lexington, Wayne Chamberlin of Humboldt and
Ray Chamberlin of McLemoresville; four sisters, Wilma
Sue Watson of Bath Springs, Linda Tucker and Evelyn
Tharpe, both of Decaturville and Martha Barker of Regan
and six grandchildren.
R.C. Lawrence
1927-2004
HENRY: School bus driver R.C. Lawrence, 77, died
Wednesday morning, April 7 at Henry County Medical
Center. Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday,
April 10 at McEvoy Funeral Home with the Rev. Alan Trull
of Henry United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was
in Old Union Cemetery near Como.
A Henry County native, he was born March 2, 1927, to the
late Roe Chester Lawrence and Ludie Mae Jackson
Lawrence. He graduated from Henry High School and
attended a business college for one year. He drove a
school bus for the Henry County School System and Paris
Special School District for 19 years and was a Korean
War veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Harriet Sue Peebles, to whom
he was married on July 15, 1949; two daughters, Debbie
Wiles of Paris and Sue Ellen Jeruzal of Memphis; and one
grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Rombye
Omar and Mable Mason and a brother, Barney Lawrence.
Janice Ann Chandler
1945-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Janice Ann Chandler, 58, were at
2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 10 at Brummitt Funeral Home
with the Rev. Keith Pence officiating. Burial was in
Finley Cemetery.
Mrs. Chandler, owner of Chandler Repair Shop and a
beautician, died Friday, April 9 at Methodist Hospital
Central in Memphis.
She was born May 6, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois to the
late Annie Virgie Grooms Chandler and Leamor E. Dunlap.
She was a member of Blooming Grove United Methodist
Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Kim (Matt) Chapman of
McKenzie; a grandchild, Chandler Noah Chapman of
McKenzie.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willis
Reuben “Billy” Chandler.
Ashton Grey Martin

WUERZBURG, GERMANY: Services for Ashton Grey Martin, two
months old, were at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 10 at LeDon Chapel Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris with the
Rev. Joe McClure officiating. Burial was in Foundry Hill
Cemetery in Puryear.
The infant died March 30 in Schweinfurt, Germany. She
was born January 17, 2004 in Wuerzburg, Germany.
Survivors include her mother and father, Jermey and
Destaney Wallace Martin of Schweinfurt, Germany; her
maternal grandparents Tina and Jeff Wallace of Buchanan;
her paternal grandfather, Ronnie Martin of McKenzie;
paternal grandmother, Ruby Sanders of Shelbyville;
great-grandmother Faye Hartzler of McKenzie,
great-grandfather Roy Martin of Huntingdon; two
brothers, Dakota and J.J. Martin, both of Schweinfurt,
Germany and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents
JoAnn and J.C. Reed, Dorothy Beecham, Franklin Wallace
and James and Virginia Andrews.
Brent Morel
1976-2004
MEMPHIS: Services for Marine Captain Brent Morel, 27,
will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 15 at the
Cherokee Baptist Church, 5340 Quince Estate, Memphis.
Interment will follow at the Memphis National Cemetery.
Visitation will be at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 14 at
the Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue.
Captain Morel was killed in combat in Fallujah, Iraq on
Wednesday, April 7. He was a 1994 graduate of Bartlett
High School and a 1999 graduate of the University of
Tennessee at Martin.
Survivors include his wife Amy Morel of Camp Pendleton,
California; his parents, Mike and Molly Morel of
McKenzie; one sister, Marcy Woods and her husband
Richard, of McKenzie and grandparents Paul and Georgette
Smith of Martin, Tommy Morel of Mount Juliet and JoAnn
