Jack W. Jeter
1911-2004
GLEASON: Jack W. Jeter, 92, of Gleason, Tennessee,
died Thursday, April 8, 2004 at Weakley County Nursing
Home. Funeral services for Mr. Jeter were held Saturday,
April 10, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Gleason First United
Methodist Church. Burial followed at Hopewell Cemetery.
Rev. Mike Jeffers officiated the services.
Johnny Bradberry, Charles Hodges, Roy Lee Hodges, Les
McElhiney, Thomas Morris, Harold Parks, Buddy Robison,
Howard Ross, Jerry Simmons, Clay Wilson, and Bob Wray
served as Honorary Pallbearers. John Campbell, Brian
Baker, Jason Hollars, Paul Jeter, Jerry McElhiney, and
Rusty Rutledge served as Pallbearers.
Mr. Jeter was a retired rural mail carrier. He was also
a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Jeter was born October 2, 1911
in Gleason, Tennessee. He was the son of the late Dr.
and Mrs. J.E. Jeter. In addition to his parents, Mr.
Jeter was also preceded in death by his brother and
sister-in-law, Dr. Robert and Imogene Jeter.
Mr. Jeter is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia
Hodges Jeter; a daughter, Gail (Kerry) Campbell of
Nashville, Tennessee; two sons, Jere (Maureen) Jeter of
Franklin, Tennessee, and Robert (Rita) Jeter of Gleason,
Tennessee; seven grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.
Ashton Grey Martin

WUERZBURG, GERMANY: Services for Ashton Grey Martin,
two months old, were at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 10 at
LeDon Chapel Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris with the
Rev. Joe McClure officiating. Burial was in Foundry Hill
Cemetery in Puryear.
The infant died March 30 in Schweinfurt, Germany. He was
born January 17, 2004 in Wuerzburg, Germany.
Survivors include his mother and father, Jermey and
Destaney Wallace Martin of Schweinfurt, Germany; his
maternal grandparents Tina and Jeff Wallace of Buchanan;
his paternal grandfather, Ronnie Martin of McKenzie;
paternal grandmother, Ruby Sanders of Shelbyville;
great-grandmother Faye Hartzler of McKenzie,
great-grandfather Roy Martin of Huntingdon; two
brothers, Dakota and J.J. Martin, both of Schweinfurt,
Germany and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents JoAnn
and J.C. Reed, Dorothy Beecham, Franklin Wallace and
James and Virginia Andrews.
Jethro Butler
1923-2004
WILDERSVILLE: Services for Mr. Jethro Butler were
held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 10 at Chase Funeral
Home Chapel. He was born in Huntingdon on June 19, 1923
to the late Erlie and Lubie Bledsoe Butler. He died
April 7 at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He received his formal education at the old St. Paul
Community School and later served in the military. He
was a World War II army veteran. He was a member of the
St. Paul Baptist Church. He was employed by TVA for a
short time and later at the Milan Arsenal where he
worked for approximately 28 years. He was a member of
the American Legion.
He met and married Ms. Jettie H. Rivers and they had two
children. She preceded him in death. He later married
Ms. Martha Pearson of Huntingdon. He was also preceded
in death by two daughters, three sisters and one
brother.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Norma
Williamson of Wildersville; three sons, Terry Lynn
Butler of Lexington, Jeffery Lynn Butler and Gene Hart,
both of Wildersville; one sister, Ms. Odessa Abbage; one
brother, Mr. Hugh L. Butler, both of Huntingdon; several
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Martin Russell McAlexander, Jr.
1963-2004
CEDAR GROVE: Mr. Martin Russell McAlexander, Jr.,
40, died Thursday, April 15 at his home. Funeral
services were conducted on Sunday, April 18 at 2:00 p.m.
in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Phil
Mitchell officiating. Interment followed in the Leach
Seventh Day Adventist Cemetery.
Mr. McAlexander was born December 12, 1963 in Tate,
Georgia to the late Martin Russell and Edith Wanda Braun
McAlexander, Sr. He was a member of the Mt. Gilead
Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by a
sister, Luv Kee.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nancy Perry McAlexander;
two stepsons, Joshua Pott and Ben Potts, both of
Lexington; a stepfather, Luke Kee Sr. of Huntingdon; one
brother, Geoff McAlexander of Bruceton; and a
half-brother, Lucian Kee, Jr. of Buena Vista.

Myrtle Selph
1919-2004
GLEASON: Graveside services for Myrtle Selph, 84,
were at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 15 at Sunset Cemetery
in Dresden. Ridgeway Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.
Mrs. Selph died on Monday, April 12 at McKenzie Regional
Hospital.
She was born April 20, 1919 in Pinon, New Mexico. She
was a former employee of Gaines Manufacturing and Holley
Carburetor Plant and also worked as a seamstress and
sitter for several years.
Survivors include four daughters, Jenny Huff of Bonne
Terre, Missouri, Edna Norwood of Gleason, Margie
Kalbfell of Afton, Missouri and Darlene Evans of Paris;
three sons, Larry Barlow of Camden, Steve Barlow of
Henry and Bobby Barlow of Gleason; 15 grandchildren and
11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husbnd, Harrison
H. Barlow, Sr, second husband John A. Selph, her mother,
Erin Adell Travis Arnold, her father, Lonnie Guy Arnold;
three sons, Roy, Ralph and Henry Barlow, Jr.; two
sisters, Bessie McCloud and Verna Barlow; a brother,
Robert Arnold; a daughter-in-law Mary Barlow; a
grandson, Tracy Lynn Barlow, great-grandson Andrew Huff
and grandson-in-law Greg Crocker.
Henry Timothy “Timmy” Springer
1958-2004
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Henry Timothy “Timmy” Springer, 46,
passed away Tuesday, April 13 at the Baptist Memorial
Hospital in Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted
on Wednesday, April 14 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral
Home Chapel with Bro. Bobby Beechum officiating.
Interment followed in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near
Skullbone.
Mr. Springer was born February 8, 1958 in Huntingdon. He
was preceded in death by his father, Franklin Springer
and one brother, Randy Springer.
Survivors include two sisters, Frankie Springer and Ann
Park, both of Huntingdon and two brothers, Dan Springer
of Huntingdon and Michael Springer of Florida. His
mother, Mary Louise Tart Springer died Friday, April 16.
Mary Louise Springer
1932-2004
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Mary Louise Springer, 71, passed
away on Friday, April 16 at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, April 18 at
3:00 p.m. at the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro.
Bobby Beecham officiating. Interment followed in the Mt.
Pleasant Cemetery near Skullbone.
Mrs. Springer was born September 6, 1932 in Henderson
County to the late Walter Albert and Mary Jane Moody
Tart. She was a homemaker. She was also preceded in
death by two sons, Randy Springer and Timmy Springer.
Survivors include two daughters, Frankie Springer and
Ann Park, both of Huntingdon; two sons, Dan Springer of
Huntingdon and Michael Spring of Florida; two sisters,
Lucille “Kitty” Britt and Linda Lou Springer, both of
Lexington; one brother, Billy Jean Tart of McKenzie;
twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Leah Vern Wiley
1912-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Leah Vern Wiley, 91, were at
2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 18 at First Baptist Church with
the Rev. Clayton Owen officiating. Burial was in Mt.
Olivet Cemetery.
Mrs. Wiley, a homemaker, died Thursday, April 15 at
Farragut Health Care in Knoxville.
She was born May 11, 1912 in Gleason to the late Martha
Webb Alimon and John Alimon. She was a member of the
First Baptist Church in Gleason.
Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Ann (Frank) Hall of
Knoxville and one grandson, Matt Hall of Knoxville.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ed Wiley;
three brothers and three sisters.
Brummitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mary Viers Smith Cooper
1940-2004
HUNTINGDON: Funeral services for Mary Viers Smith
Cooper, 64, were Tuesday, April 20 at 11:00 a.m. in the
Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Norman
Culpepper officiating. Interment followed in Highland
Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Cooper died late Saturday afternoon, April 17, at
Huntingdon Health Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Madison County and lived in the Bemis
Community for many years where she received her
education at J.B. Young School. She was the daughter of
the late Everett W. Viers and Bessie Irene Wilson Viers.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Parkview Baptist
Church. She had made her home in Huntingdon the past 13
years.
Survivors include three daughters, Sylvia Haberland and
Misty Kehrer, both of Huntingdon and Selena Etheridge of
Jackson; two sons, James M. Cooper of Huntingdon and
Frank Smith of Jackson; two sisters, Martha Pearl
Stewart of Joliet, Illinois and Betty Jo Johnson of
Nesbit, Mississippi; and eight grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence F. Smith, who
died in 1966 and a grandson, James Michael Cooper, Jr.
Margie Carlton
1933-2004
GREENFIELD: Margie Carlton, 70, of Greenfield, died
Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at Oak Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services for Ms. Carlton were held Thursday,
April 15, 2004, at 4:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in
Greenfield. Burial followed in Meridian Cemetery in
Greenfield. Bob Copeland officiated the services.
Ms. Carlton was a factory worker. She was born June 22,
1933 in Greenfield to the late Leon Galey and Gracie
(Lewis) Galey.
Ms. Carlton is survived by three daughters, Cindi
(Carlton) Ferguson of McKenzie, Pam (Carlton) Summers of
Gleason, and Kathy (Carlton) Black of Gleason; two
brothers, Bobby Galey of Greenfield, and Robert Galey of
Greenfield; three grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren. |
