Billie Bruce Rawson
1946-2004
HUNTINGDON: Billie Bruce Rawson, 58, died on Monday,
November 29 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
He was born July 4, 1946 in San Francisco, California to
the late Billie and Beverly Michaels Rawson. He was a
truck driver for Martin Transport.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Jo Duty Rawson.

Sylvia Pritchard
1918-2004
CLARKSBURG: Services for Sylvia Davison Pritchard,
86, were conducted on Friday, December 3 at 2:00 p.m. in
the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mark Simons
officiating. Interment followed in the Carroll Memorial
Gardens.
Mrs. Pritchard died on Tuesday, November 30 at the
Baptist Hospital East in Memphis.
She was born April 27, 1918 in Huntingdon to the late
George Emory Davison and Elva Elizabeth Harmon Davison.
She was a retired factory worker for the Milan Arsenal
and a member of the Roans Creek Church of Christ. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Pritchard.
Survivors include two daughters, Natelle Waugh and
Eileen Pritchard, both of Clarksburg; two brothers,
Doyle Davison of Huntingdon and Oscar Davison of
Trezevant; three grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren and a
special friend, Mike McLemore.
James Richard Carroll
1931-2004
HENRY: Services for James Richard Carroll, 73, were
conducted on Thursday, December 2 at 2:00 p.m. in the
Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ray Ward and Bro.
George Sellers officiating. Interment followed in
Oakwood Cemetery in Milan.
Mr. Carroll died on Monday, November 29 at the McKenzie
Regional Hospital.
He was born February 28, 1931 in Texas to the late Frank
Leslie Carroll and Willie Edna Lusk Carroll. He was a
member of the Henry Baptist Church, a Korean naval
veteran (having serving on the aircraft carrier Hornet
CVA 12. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Carroll.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mary Sutton
Carroll; five sons, Mike Carroll of Henry, Pat Carroll
of McKenzie, Tim Carroll of Puryear, Tad Carroll of
Henry and Rod Carroll of Paris; two sisters, Merlene
Burress of Milan and Betty Replogle of Paris; two
brothers, Frank Carroll, Jr. of Henry and Robert Carroll
of Martin; eight grandchildren and two
great-granddaughters.
Verna O. Montgomery
1914-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Verna O. Montgomery, 90, were
at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 6 at Brummitt Funeral
Home with the Rev. Harrell Nation officiating. Burial
was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mrs. Montgomery, a homemaker, died Friday, December 3 at
McKenzie Health Care Center.
She was born September 23, 1914 in Weakley County to the
late Ed Scarbrough and Ethel Burke Scarbrough. She was a
member of the First United Methodist Church in McKenzie.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan (Harold) Gibson of
McKenzie and Annette (Gary) Reed of Memphis; a son,
Dwayne Montgomery of McKenzie; a sister, Joyce McBride
of McKenzie; three grandchildren, Nick (Teresa) Reed of
Memphis; Chad (Julie) Reed of Oakland and Dixie (Mike)
Whitby of Dallas, Texas; and two great-grandchildren,
Morgan Reed and Lauren Whitby.
Ruby Pearl Kizer Rosser
1917-2004
MCKENZIE: Funeral services for Ruby Pearl Kizer
Rosser, 87, formerly of Wildersville were on Monday,
December 6 at 10:00 a.m. in the Cedar Avenue Chapel of
McKenzie Funeral Home with Dr. George E. Clark and Rev.
Dennis Trull officiating. Burial followed in Jones
Cemetery in Wildersville.
Mrs. Rosser, a homemaker and the widow of James
Jefferson “Jeff” Rosser, died on Saturday, December 5 at
McKenzie Regional Hospital. She was born July 11, 1917
in Wildersville to the late George Estes Kizer and
Rachel Melissa Davis Kizer. She was also the
daughter-in-law to the late John Ora Rosser and Lottie
Rosser. Mrs. Rosser was a member of the McKenzie First
Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Gayle (Tim) Rosser
Clark of Jackson, Brenda (Kenneth) Doster of McKenzie,
Candice (Danny) Beasley of Decatur, Alabama and Phyllis
(Frank) Tipple of Riverside, California; one sister,
Myrtle Davis Kizer Parker of Parkers Crossroads; seven
grandchildren, David (Lisa) Doster of McKenzie, Stacy
Sterling of Pillowville, Kyle Beasley and Cara Beasley,
both of Decatur, Alabama, Jay (Marjorie) Kimmell of
Bellington, Washington, Patty Harter of Corona,
California and David (Shelly) Tipple of Orange,
California; and 12 great-grandchildren.

LAVINIA: Services for John Reagan Stuart, 4, were
held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 4 at First Baptist
Church in Milan. Interment followed at Lavinia Cemetery.
John Reagan died Monday, November 29 at Scottish Rite
Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
Survivors include his parents, Brad Stuart and Jill
Stuart of Cumming, Georgia; his grandparents, Ray and
Georgia Stuart of Dunwoody, Georgia and Ann Robinson of
Lavinia; an aunt, Jan Harrison of Milan and an uncle,
Johnny Robinson of Lavinia. He was preceded in death by
his grandfather, John W. Robinson, Sr.

GLEASON: Services for Ellis Franklin Trevathan, 92,
were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 2 at the
First United Methodist Church in Gleason with Rev. Mike
Jeffers officiating. Interment followed in the Hopewell
Cemetery.
Mr. Trevathan died on Tuesday, November 30 at the
Weakley County Nursing Home.
He was born October 24, 1912 in Gleason to the late
William Franklin and Rubye Ellis Trevathan. He was the
retired owner of the Gleason Foundry and a member of the
Rotary Club. He was preceded in death by a son, Frank
Trevathan.
Survivors include his wife, Rosa White Trevathan; six
daughters, Rubye Snider of Gleason, Kaye Hynds of
Martin, Rose Mary Evans of Tupelo, Mississippi, Nancy
Wyman of Cedar Grove, Sue Price of Nashville and Anita
Knowles of Franklin; one son, Jeter Trevathan of
Memphis; one brother, Underwood “Woody” Trevathan of
North Carolina; one sister, Anne Johnson of Martin, 20
grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

James Lee Whickcar

MCKENZIE: Graveside services for James Lee Whickcar,
85, were Saturday, December 4 at 11:00 a.m. at the
Butler Cemetery near Gleason with Rev. Jeff Crabtree
officiating.
Mr. Whickcar, a retired steward for the Teamster’s Union
in Detroit, Michigan died Wednesday night, December 1 at
McKenzie Health Care. He was a native of South Bend and
was born January 15, 1919 to the late Arthur Whickcar
and Gladys Waller Whickcar. He was a member of Eastwood
Baptist Church in McKenzie.
Survivors include his wife, Roma Neighbors Snead
Whickcar; one daughter, Marlene Harrison of South Bend,
Indiana; two stepdaughters, Mary Jean Walker and
Margaret Beasley, both of McKenzie; one son, Ronnie
Whickcar of South Bend, Indiana; three stepsons, Joe
Snead of Jacksonville, Florida, and Jimmy Snead and John
Snead, both of McKenzie; a brother, C.A. Whickcar of
South Bend, Indiana and several grandchildren.

GLEASON: Services for Roy Thomas Parks, 84, were at
2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 1 at Gallimore Funeral
Home with the Rev. Mike Jeffers officiating. Interment
followed in Hopewell Cemetery.
Mr. Parks, retired employee of a lumber company, died on
Monday, November 29 at McKenzie Health Care Center.
He was born May 22, 1920 in Gleason to the late Thurman
and Beulah Haley Parks.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Parks and
a sister, Lucinda Webb Parks.
There are no immediate survivors.
William Alexander Turner

MCKENZIE: Services for William Alexander Turner,
infant, were held at the Cedar Avenue Chapel of the
McKenzie Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December
4 with the Rev. Ron Cox officiating. Burial followed at
Mt. Zion Cemetery in Medina.
He died at McKenzie Regional Hospital.
Baby Alex was the son of Shawna Sumrok of McKenzie and
Shawn Turner of Henry. He is survived by an older
brother, Dakota Sumrok and sister, Chloe Sumrok of
McKenzie.
His maternal grandparents are Sheila Holbrook of
Broadway, North Carolina and the late Dan Holbrook of
McKenzie. Paternal grandparents are Teresa Turner of
Paris and Eddie Turner of Henry and a very special
friend Joey Neely of McKenzie.
Betty June Bogle Ownby
1930-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Betty June Bogle Ownby, 74,
were at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 5 at Cedar Avenue
Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home with the Rev. Harrell
Nation officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mrs. Ownby, a homemaker and community volunteer worker,
died on Thursday, December 2 at McKenzie Regional
Hospital.
She was born June 27, 1930 in McKenzie to the late
Thomas Wilce Bogle and Cathleen Haddock Bogle. She was a
member of the First United Methodist Church, member of
the Carroll County Election Commission for 26 years and
Carroll County Democrat Executive Committee and past
member of the BPW.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Al Ownby; a
son, Alvin V. Ownby of Milan; five sisters, Mary Jo
Vaughn of McKenzie, Elois Garner of Buchanan, Demetra
Steele of LaVergne, Glenda Hodges of Gleason and Mildred
Aitken of Taft, California; three grandchildren, Amy
Ownby of Arkansas, Tim Ownby of Birmingham, Alabama and
Jimmy Hubbard of Martin; and a great-grandchild, Destiny
Barbara Ownby.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathi Porter; a
sister, Novacine Scott and two brothers, James Bogle and
Steve Bogle.
Charlotte Ann Spencer

PARIS: Services for Charlotte Ann Spencer, 61,
formerly of Bruceton, were at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday,
December 7 at Bruceton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev.
Terry Bradshaw officiating. Burial was in New Prospect
Cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Mrs. Spencer, a cashier at Paris Wal-Mart, died
Saturday, December 4 at her home.
She was born June 25, 1943 in Memphis to the late James
Otis Cawthon and Mary Dorcas Bennett Cawthon.
Survivors include a daughter, Holly Spencer of Camden; a
son, William “Bubba” Spencer of Bolivar; a sister, Carol
Bethshears of Bruceton and two grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by a brother, Gary Cawthon.
Travis Brown Scates
1923-2004
PARIS: Services for Travis Brown Scates, 81, will be
at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 8 at Brummitt Funeral
Home with Bro. Craig Peevyhouse officiating. Burial will
be in Seminary Cemetery.
Mr. Scates, retired air force tech sergeant and retired
from Anchor Hocking Glass in Houston, Texas, died
Monday, December 6 at his residence.
He was born October 18, 1923 in McKenzie to the late
Odis Brown Scates and Mary Travis Scates. He was a
member of the McKenzie Senior Citizens Center.
Survivors include a son, Neil (Sara) Scates of Magnolia,
Texas/ a daughter, Sylvia Bruce of Paris, widow of Henry
Bruce; two brothers, Robert Scates of Virginia Beach,
West Virginia and James Scates of Centerville, Texas;
four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Lankford
Scates.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 7 from 4:00-8:00
p.m.
Mary C. Pinkley
1910-2004
ATW0OD: Services for Mary C. Pinkley, 94, were at
2;00 p.m., Tuesday, December 7 at First Baptist Church
in Atwood with burial in Pisgah Cemetery.
Mrs. Pinkley, a homemaker, died December 5 at Milan
General Hospital. She was a member of the First Baptist
Church in Atwood.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Samuel
Pinkley.
Survivors include a son, Harold Pinkley of Humboldt; a
daughter, Joyce Springer of Atwood; seven grandchildren
and eleven great-grandchildren.
