Gracie Bridges Allen
1928-2004
HOLLOW ROCK: Services for Gracie Bridges Allen, 75,
were at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 31 at Faith Baptist
Church with the Rev. Steve Davis officiating. Burial was
in Prospect Cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Mrs. Allen, retired owner/manager of Gracie's Beauty
Shop, died on Thursday, January 29 at Jackson-Madison
County General Hospital.
She was born September 23, 1928 in Hollow Rock to the
late Monroe Graden Bridges and Genettie Lorene Holladay
Bridges. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church. She
was also preceded in death by a brother, Travis Bridges.
Survivors include her husband, Leslie Harrell Allen of
Hollow Rock; a daughter, Judy Dill of Huntingdon; a son,
Harrell Allen of Camden; a brother, Charles Bridges of
Tampa, Florida; two grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
Bruceton Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Ernestine Bunyard
1943-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Ernestine Bunyard, 60, were
at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, January 29 at Enon Missionary
Baptist Church. Burial was in Enon Cemetery. Brummitt
Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Bunyard, retired lab supervisor from Barnes
Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, and also a retired Avon
lady, died on Monday, January 26 at Jackson-Madison
County General Hospital.
She was born December 11, 1943 in Benton County to the
late Viva P. Anderson Fowler and Lowell Fowler. She was
a member of Enon Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, George W. Bunyard; two
sons, Mark Bunyard of McKenzie and George W. Bunyard,
Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri; two brothers, Billy Joe
Fowler of McKenzie and Vernice Fowler of Missouri; two
sisters, Dorothy Chandler and Linda Garner, both of
McKenzie; four grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leon
Fowler and Alvis Fowler.
Alma Carter
1931-2004
CEDAR GROVE: Services for Alma Carter, 72, were held
at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 31 at Bible Hill
Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the church
cemetery.
Mrs. Carter died on Monday, January 26 at Henderson
County General Hospital.
She was born July 20, 1931 in McLemoresville to the late
Henry Greer and Alma Hillsman Greer.
Survivors include a son, William Hurt of Artesia,
California; children she reared, Loretta Simmons,
Patricia Stein, Maxine Robinson and Centrilla Hunt, all
of Cleveland, Ohio; two stepsons, Ralph Carter and Roy
Lee Carter, both of Lexington; and one sister, Bertie
Flake of Ben Harber, Michigan.
Mercer Brothers Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.
Alice Cate
1920-2004
PARIS: Alice W. Cate, 83, died on Monday, January 26
at Henry County Medical Center. Funeral services were
conducted at 11:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 28 at McEvoy
Funeral Home with Dr. Gary S. Collier officiating.
Burial was in the Henry Cemetery.
She was married to Lovelace Cate, who survives. She was
born in Henry County on August 30, 1920 to the late
Robert and Lucy Barham Lawrence.
A homemaker, Mrs. Cate formerly worked for Wilker
Brothers in McKenzie. She attended the Methodist Church.
Survivors in addition to her husband include a daughter,
Diana Clark of Paris; five sisters, Carleen Wilson,
Wilmadell Tanner and Texie Lawrence, all of Paris; Helen
Malone of Henry and Juana Matusow of Boca Raton,
Florida; one brother, Oswie Lawrence of St. Charles,
Missouri; a sister-in-law Sue Lawrence of McKenzie; four
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Janice
Cate; one son, Larry Cate; one sister, Jewel Lemons and
six brothers, Jessie, Howard, R.B., Flavel, Robert and
Lynn Lawrence.
Cyril E. Chandler
1915-2004
NELSONVILLE, OHIO: C.E. Chandler, 88, died at
Doctor's Hospital in Nelsonville, Ohio on January 23 of
natural causes. He was born in Carroll County on
December 28, 1915 to the late Thomas Claude Chandler and
Maggie Lee Woods Chandler.
Mr. Chandler worked in the construction business and
served in the U.S. Army in 1944. He founded an
earthmoving, mining and paving company, Chandler
Brothers, with his brothers and operated the company
continuously from 1947-2003.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday, January 30 at
2:00 p.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Dr.
William P. Bailey officiating. Interment followed in the
Long Rock Cemetery.
Mr. Chandler was preceded in death by his wife, Mary
Lavelle Kirby and one brother, C.L. Chandler. He was a
Mason.
Survivors include one son, Jim Chandler of Nashville;
two brothers, Jack Chandler of Tullahoma and T.C.
Chandler of Huntingdon; one sister, June Chandler Borky
of Huntingdon; two grandsons; a cousin, Rodney Chandler

Zelma Mae Ellis Turner
1928-2004
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Zelma Mae Ellis Turner, 75, died on
Friday, January 30 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in
Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday,
January 31 at 1:00 p.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home
Chapel with Brother Wendell Boyd and Brother Bobby
Russell officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Olivet
Cemetery.
Mrs. Turner was born on March 22, 1928 to the late Obey
Lee and Nancy Ann Baker Ellis. She was a homemaker, a
member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Benton
County and a member of the Eastern Star. She was
preceded in death by three brothers, James Lester Ellis,
Thelma Ray Ellis and Arlon Lee Ellis.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Charles
Turner; two daughters and sons-in-law, Charlie Mae and
Wendell Boyd of Buena Vista and Joyce and Bobby Russell
of McKenzie; a brother, L.D. Ellis of Buena Vista; six
grandchildren, Jerry Boyd, Virginia Douglas, both of
Westport and Brandy Turman, Laura Russell, Josh Russell
and John David Russell, all of McKenzie; and eight
great-grandchildren, Hope Douglas, Nick Douglas, Faith
Douglas, Logan Boyd, Caleb Boyd and Peyton Boyd, all of
Westport and Russell Turman and Grayce Turman, both of

Edward A.Paige
1939-2004
LANSING, MICHIGAN: Born March 19, 1939 in Gleason,
Edward A. Paige died January 24 at the age of 64. Ed had
retired from GM after 35 years of service. He was
preceded in death by his father, Emerson Page, a son,
Douglas and father and mother-in-law, Carl and Maybelle
Brooks.
Surviving are his wife, Kay; daughter Lisa Paige of
Potterville, MI, beloved and adored grandson, Dylan
McKay; mother Virginia Bunn of McKenzie; brothers, Roy
Page and Daryl Bunn of McKenzie; nephews Terry Rice, Tim
Page, Tracy, Kyle, Rob and Chad Hicks and many
great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, January 27 at
2:00 p.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. Lansing Chapel,
900 East Michigan Avenue, Lansing with Brother Thomas
Haynie officiating. Interment followed in Deepdale
Memorial Gardens in Lansing.
