Golena Puckett
1912-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Golena H. Puckett, 91, were
held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, July 16 at Greater Enon
Baptist Church with Brother James Stewart, Dr. Ed
Perkins, and Dr. Robert Prosser officiating. Burial
followed in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Ms. Puckett, former staff member at Bethel College, died
on Tuesday, July 13 at McKenzie Regional Hospital. She
was the first black, non-Cumberland Presbyterian to
enroll at Bethel College and did so at the age of 51
while serving as a maid at the college library. She
earned her degree after 14 years of part-time study.
She was born October 21, 1912 in Gleason to the late
Mattie Hancox Winston and Willis Winston.
Survivors include one sister, Lorraine Heglar of
Brooklyn, New York.

Troy Creamer
1924-2004
PARIS: Graveside services for Troy Creamer, 79, were
conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 10 at Bevel
Cemetery with Dr. Gary S. Collier officiating.
Mr. Creamer, a machinist, died on Friday, July 9 at
Henry County Medical Center.
He was born in Henry County on November 16, 1924 to the
late George Thomas Creamer and Ettie Pearl Cox Creamer.
A stepdaughter, Pat Nichols, four sisters, Lissie Allen,
Macie Hodges, Cora Markham and Carnell McWherter and one
brother, Roy Creamer, preceded him I death. He was a
Baptist by faith and a veteran of World War II where he
served in the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Marie Kimmons
Creamer; two daughters, Kathy Kidder of Plainfield,
Illinois and Donna DeMarie of Napierville, Illinois; two
stepdaughters, Sue Geurin of Hollow Rock and Linda Owen
of Paris; two sisters, Cleo Glover of Paris and Eula
Baker of Cartersville, Georgia; four grandchildren, five
step-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren and
two step-great-great-grandchildren.
McEvoy Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Thomas Owen McPherson
1922-2004
HOLLOW ROCK: Services for Thomas McPherson, 82, were
held at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, July 15 at the Church of
Christ in Bruceton with Rev. Ted Gentle officiating.
Interment followed at Poplar Springs Cemetery near
Atwood.
Mr. McPherson, a retired supervisor for the Department
of Human Resources, died on Monday, July 12 at his home.
He was born on July 6, 1922 in Milan to the late Ben
Ennis McPherson and Martha Jamison Owen McPherson. He
was a member of the Bruceton Church of Christ and was
awarded three Bronze Stars during service in World War
II.
Survivors include two daughters, Joy Boyd of Jackson and
Susan Mays of Buena Vista; one son, Steve McPherson of
Pryor, Oklahoma; two brothers, Billy Steve McPherson and
Ben McPherson, both of Hollow Rock; six grandchildren
and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer
Society. Bruceton Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.
Bobby J. Barger
1930-2004
TERRY COMMUNITY: Mr. Bobby Joe Barger, 74, died
Thursday, July 15 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in
Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday,
July 17 at 3:00 p.m. at the Obion Chapel Church of
Christ with Bro. Ernest Ray Pounds and Bro. Ray Robinson
officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Barger was born June 22, 1930 in Carroll County to
the late Luther and Maude Gallimore Barger. He was a
logger, farmer for 25 years and retired from the State
Highway Department after 12 years of service. He was
also a member of the Obion Chapel Church of Christ where
he served on the Obion Cemetery Perpetual Fund Board and
an elder of the church until his health forced him to
retire. Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in
death: Robert "Clip" Barger, Johnny F. Barger, Clayton
"Pocket" Barger, Gulley Barger, Evelyn Martin and Gladys
Sutton.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Elbadean Rhodes
Barger; one daughter, Kaye McAlister of Cedar Grove; two
sisters, Mary Nell Cole of Lavinia and Mae Gooch of
Yuma; one granddaughter and one great-grandson.

Hulon Gray Hampton
1923-2004
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Hulon Gray Hampton, 81, died on
Thursday, July 15 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in
Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday,
July 17 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel
with Bro. J.D. Abbott officiating. Interment followed in
the New Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Hampton was born June 11, 1923 in Carroll County to
the late Albert and Ethel Ellis Hampton. He was a
wildlife resource agent for the TWRA, a retired farmer
and a member of the Mt. Comfort Missionary Baptist
Church.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Imogene Parish
Hampton; one daughter, Louise Hollowell of Yuma; one
sister and one brother, Alta Mae Eubanks and Duel
Hampton, both of McKenzie; one granddaughter and two
great-granddaughters.
Colby Wayne Pounds
1978-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Colby Wayne Pounds, 25, were
at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 19 at McKenzie Funeral Home
with Bro. Jim Roberts officiating. Burial was in Finley
Cemetery.
Mr. Pounds, an employee of New Generations Furniture,
died on Friday, July 16 at his residence.
He was born September 14, 1978 in Detroit, Michigan. He
was a 1996 graduate of McKenzie High School.
Survivors include his parents, Jean Locniskar Pounds and
Wayne Pounds of McKenzie; a son, Braden Pounds of
McKenzie and two sisters, Amber Moore of McKenzie and
Cheryl Valvona of Capac, Michigan.
Johnie Mac Bomar Lowry
1928-2004
PARIS: Services for Johnie Mac Bomar Lowry, 76, were
at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 17 at McEvoy Chapel Funeral
Home with the Rev. Ronnie McClure officiating. Burial
was in Spring Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Lowry, retired from Holley Carburetor Plant, died
Thursday morning, July 15 at McKenzie Health Care
Center.
She was born January 8, 1928 in Paris to the late John
Hawkins and Marie Bomar Hawkins and reared by
grandparents Weldon and Bess Bomar. She was a member of
the Spring Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, William Ray Lowry of Paris; a
sister, Mildred Kuykendall of Paris; two grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by her husband, Freeman H.
Lowry on March 30, 1992.
Doris Penney Youree
1928-2004
NASHVILLE: Services for Doris Penney Youree were at
1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 12 at Woodlawn Funeral Home in
Nashville. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Park
Cemetery.
Mrs. Youree died at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
She was preceded in death by her husband Howard Youree.
Survivors include two sisters, Gladys Crocker and
Brooxie Barksdale both of McKenzie and two brothers,
Aden Penney of Sommerville and Weldon Penney of Jackson;
three nieces and six nephews.
Norman C. Sanders
1920-2004
HOLLOW ROCK: Services for Norman Clinoye Sanders,
84, were conducted on Saturday, July 17 at 1:00 p.m. in
the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Steve Davis
officiating. Interment followed in the Carroll Memorial
Gardens.
Mr. Sanders died on Thursday, July 15 at the Tennessee
State Veterans Home in Humboldt after a battle with
kidney disease.
He was born April 15, 1920 in Vale to the late Elus and
Era Hutchison Sanders. He graduated from Bruceton High
School and was a World War II navy veteran. He was a
member of Faith Baptist Church in Hollow Rock, VFW Post
#4349, American Legion Post #175, Masonic Lodge #288,
Alchymia Shrine Temple in Memphis and also earned his
Scottish Rite 32nd Degree.
Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Cypert of
Jacksonville, Florida; one son, Norman E. Sanders of
Jackson; two sisters, Christine Pickler of Buena Vista
and Corlynn Sanders of Lexington; two grandchildren and
two great-grandchildren.
Larry G. Stone
1957-2004
MCKENZIE: Memorial services for Larry G. Stone, 47,
will be held on Saturday, July 24 at 6:00 p.m. at the
Faith in Christ Church with Brother Wayne Burton
officiating.
Mr. Stone died Thursday, July 15 at his home.
He was born April 28, 1957 in Paris to the late Felix L.
and Macy Carol Denkins Stone.
Survivors include a son, Shannon Trevathan of
Clarksburg; a daughter, Amanda Stone of Mississippi; a
brother, Gary Stone of Huntingdon and six grandchildren.

Larry Gene Bullock
1949-2004
TRENTON: Services for Larry Gene Bullock, 55,
formerly of Dresden, were at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July
17 at Gallimore Funeral Home in Gleason with the
Reverend Trent Bullock officiating. Burial was in
Hopewell Cemetery.
Mr. Bullock, a disabled railroad engineer, died
Thursday, July 15 at Gibson County General Hospital.
He was born February 24, 1949 in Paris. He was a member
of Gleason First Baptist Church, VFW and the Elks.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa Evans Bullock; a
stepson, Brian Qualls of Newbern; a stepdaughter,
Brittney Qualls of Newbern; his stepfather and mother,
Clarence and Blanche Snider Bullock of Dresden; a
brother, Rev. Don Bullock of Gleason.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thurmon Bullock.
Patricia Sayles Chamberlain
1930-2004
GLEASON: Services for Patricia Sayles Chamberlain,
73, were at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 20 at Gallimore
Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hopewell Cemetery.
Mrs. Chamberlain, a homemaker, died Sunday, July 18 at
Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin.
She was born August 5, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois.
Survivors include two sons, Douglas Sayles of
Springville and Dewayne Sayles of Dresden; four
daughters, Barbara Hall of Henry, Mary Newell of Poteau,
Oklahoma, Gail Sayles of Chicago, Illinois and Cathy
Sayles of McKenzie; a sister, Jo Ann Salathiel of Del
City, Oklahoma and 16 grandchildren.
Eric Lynn Oliver
1950-2004
BOLIVAR: Services for Eric Lynn Oliver, 54, formerly
of Gleason, were at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 13 at
Gallimore Funeral Home Chapel with Father Carl Hood
officiating. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Oliver, a social worker at Western State Mental
Health Institute, died Sunday, July 11 at Bolivar
General Hospital.
He was born June 14, 1950 in Martin. He was a member of
the Roman Catholic Church in Bolivar.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Stone Oliver; a son,
Geoffrey Lynn Oliver of Martin; his mother, Norma June
Stallcup Oliver of Gleason; a sister, Roxanne Crider of
Gleason; and a brother Brian Oliver of Dresden.
He was preceded in death by his father Duward Oliver and
a brother, Brad Oliver.
Douglas F. Brigdale
1916-2004
MCKENZIE: Douglas Francis Brigdale, 88, a resident
of the Obion County Nursing Home in Union City, died
July 20. A graveside service is planned for Thursday,
July 22, in Henry.
Brigdale was a retired commercial artist who was born
March 19, 1916, in London, England. He was a World War
II veteran. He moved to Tennessee in 1982 along with his
wife, Eileen Brigdale, who preceded him in death in
1992.
Brigdale is survived by his daughter, Antoinette
(Bowden) McGee of McKenzie; three grandchildren, Lisa
Doster and Stephen Bowden, both of McKenzie, and Kevin
Bowden of Union City; four great-grandchildren, Tony and
Chelsea Mattox, and Brandon and Olivia Bowden, all of
McKenzie.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Brummitt
Funeral Home of McKenzie is in charge of the
arrangements.
Oscar Barnes
1922-2004
MCKENZIE: Mr. Oscar Barnes, 82, died Monday, July 19
at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. The body was
cremated.
Mr. Barnes was a resident of Lakeside Retirement
Community in McKenzie. He was born September 10, 1921 in
Carroll County to the late Samuel and Lula Barnes.
Survivors include a brother, Hollis Barnes of McKenzie
Health Care Center and two sisters, Kallie Mae Thomas of
Desert Hot Springs, California and Novella Fryers of
Ocean Springs, California and several nieces and
nephews.
George A. Smith Funeral Home in Jackson was in charge of
the arrangements.
Joe Hudson
1936-2004
PARIS: Joe Hudson, 68, died on Monday, July 19 at
Henry County Medical Center. Services which were
