Kathleen June “Cathy” Ownby Porter
1949-2004
MCKENZIE: Private services for Kathleen June “Cathy”
Ownby Porter, 55, were held at Pisgah Cemetery in Atwood
with Rev. Harrell Nations officiating. A memorial
service will be held at a later time.
Mrs. Porter, a homemaker, died on Wednesday, June 9 at
Henry County Medical Center.
She was born June 8, 1949 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Survivors include her parents, Alvin P. and Betty June
Bogle Ownby of McKenzie, three sons, James Ray “Jimmy”
Hubbard of Martin and Damorn Porter and Anthony Porter,
both of California; one brother, Alvin V. Ownby of
Arkansas and three grandchildren.
McKenzie Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Helen S. Barrow
1915-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Helen S. Barrow, 88, were
held Union Academy Baptist Church in McKenzie with Bro.
Paul Merwin officiating. Interment followed in the
church cemetery.
Mrs. Barrow, a homemaker, died on Wednesday, June 9 at
her residence.
She was born June 17, 1915 to the late Edgar and Zenie
Green Sampson. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Jesse Barrow, one brother, John W. Sampson and two
sisters, Sadie Horn and Gladys Travis. She was a member
of Union Academy Baptist Church.
Survivors include one sister, Brooksye Burke of
McLemoresville.
Brummitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Dorothy Faye Looney
1932-2004
NASHVILLE: Services for Dorothy Faye Looney, 72,
were held on Thursday, June 10 at Brummitt Funeral Home
in McKenzie. Interment followed in the Everett's Chapel
Cemetery.
Miss Looney, a homemaker, died on Monday, June 7 at
Alive Hospice, Inc. in Nashville. She was a member of
Crieve Hall Baptist Church in Nashville.
She was born February 23, 1932 in McKenzie to the late
John and Ella Williams Looney. She was preceded in death
by siblings Robert Looney, Roe Looney, Cecil Looney, Mae
Golden and Laverne (Pete) Cullimore.
Survivors include two brothers, Paul Looney of Lansing,
Michigan and Elmer Looney of Diamondale, Michigan; two
sisters, Mary Frances Hilliard of Northlake, Illinois
and Lottie Tucker of East Lansing, Michigan and a
special friend, Sue Everett of Nashville.
Annie Mae Boyd
1897-2004
COLUMBUS, OHIO: Services for Annie Mae Boyd, 106,
formerly of Hollow Rock, were on Friday, June 11 at 2:00
p.m. at Abundant Life Christian Church in Hollow Rock
with Pastor James E. Nesbitt officiating. Burial
followed in the Pisgah-Nebo Cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Mrs. Boyd died on Saturday, June 5 at Mt. Carmel East
Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
She was born on December 25, 1897 in Springville to the
late Polly and O.T. Russell. She was preceded in death
by daughters, Lorene Singer and Bertha Mae Arnold; sons
Clydell Boyd and Robert Boyd; brothers, Thomas Russell
and Lee “Trump” Russell; and sisters Rosie Brooker,
Eleanor Hudson, Ada Russell and Gracie Porter.
Survivors include two sons, Rev. O.C. Boyd and Odell
Boyd, both of Columbus, Ohio; three daughters, Katherine
Holmes and Vera Hedrick of Columbus, Ohio and Christine
Nesbitt of Hollow Rock; and a host of grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and
great-great-great-grandchildren.
Trinity Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Eddie Lee Ray
1928-2004
PURYEAR: Services for Eddie Lee Ray, 76, were held
on Friday, June 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Funeral Home
with Overseer A.R. Powell officiating. Interment
followed in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Ray died on Tuesday, June 8.
He was born March 5, 1928 to the late Earl Ray and
Bennie Milliken Ray in Whitlock. He was preceded in
death by one son, Terrence Lee Ray, one sister, LaRue
Humphreys and two brothers, J.C. “Buck” Ray and Johnson
Lee Ray.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Guthrie Ray; one
daughter, Cathy Harris Burton of Columbus, Ohio; five
sons, Randall Pritchard and Eddie Ray, both of Paris,
Michael Cowan of Clarksville, Bonnie Ray of Jackson and
Randy Harris of Columbus, Ohio; five sisters, Georgia
Long, Marie McNairl, Ella Faye Martin and Clara Mae
Foster, all of Paris; two brothers, Lonnie Thomas of
Paris and Earl Ray, Jr. of Alabama, 16 grandchildren and
four great-grandchildren.
Lucy Guinevere Dowdy
1916-2004
WARREN, MICHIGAN: Mrs. Lucy Guinevere Dowdy, 88,
formerly of Buena Vista, died on Friday, June 4 at her
home. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, June
9 at 10:00 a.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with
Bro. Joe Abbott officiating. Interment followed in
Marlboro Cemetery.
Mrs. Dowdy was born February 3, 1916 in Buena Vista to
the late William and Minnie Elizabeth Pickler Ozier. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Gardell Dowdy, a
son-in-law Earl Brumm and a grandson, Christopher Brumm.
She is survived by a daughter, Donna Brumm, a grandson

Nancy B. Joyner
1910-2004
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Nancy B. Joyner, 94, died on
Sunday, June 6 at the Huntingdon Health and
Rehabilitation Center in Huntingdon. Funeral services
were conducted on Tuesday, June 8 at 2:00 p.m. in the
Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Dick Fuller
officiating. Interment followed in Sellers Hill
Cemetery.
Mrs. Joyner was born April 27, 1910 to the late Jim and
Josie Louis Bridges. She was a retired employee of Henry
I. Siegel.
She is survived by three nieces, Josie Halton and
Elwanda Sue Waddle, both of Huntingdon and Dorothy
Walley of Imboden, Arkansas and two nephews, Benny
Bridges of Bemis and Troy Bridges of Jackson.

Warren G. Smothers
1920-2004
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Warren G. “Snake” Smothers, 83,
passed away on Wednesday, June 9 at the Life Care Center
in Bruceton. Funeral services were conducted on Friday,
June 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the New Crossroads Missionary
Baptist Church with Bro. Scott Carter officiating.
Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Smothers was born November 15, 1920 in Benton County
to the late William Frances and Cora Noles Smothers. He
was a retired school bus driver for the Carroll County
Transportation Department, a farmer and a member of the
New Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church. He was
preceded in death by five sisters, Claris Drinkard,
Ollie Orr, Lula Glisson, Era Baker, and Mildred
Carlisle.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Lorell Mae
Townsend Smothers; one daughter, Brenda Lankford of
Corinth, Mississippi; two sons, Harold Smothers of
McKenzie and Tim Smothers of Huntingdon; one brother,
Pershing “Pap” Smothers of Huntingdon; four
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Julia D. Taylor
1910-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Julia D. Taylor, 93, were at
4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 13 at McEvoy Funeral Home Chapel
in Paris with the Revs. Alan Trull and Johnny Arnold
officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Taylor died on Friday morning, June 11 at Oak Manor
Health Care in McKenzie.
She was born November 15, 1910 in Henry County to the
late Cammie B. Smith, Sr. and Melissa Hamlin Smith. She
had been a member of the Henry United Methodist Church
since 1916, 88 years. There she served as church
secretary, treasurer, Sunday school teacher and she was
a lifetime member of the Woman’s Missionary Society.
She retired from North West Tennessee Economic
Development Council, was a substitute teacher for 15
years with the Henry County School System and served as
president of the PTA. She was a past president of the
Henry County Auxiliary and a charter member of the Henry
County Heart Association. She received a 15-year pin for
service with the Henry County Chapter of the American
Cancer Society. She served as acting Post Master at
Henry and for two years was on the Western District
Board of the Boy Scouts of America.
Survivors include a daughter, Rita Anne McSwain of
McKenzie; two sisters, Mrs. Willie Grace Brewer of North
Carolina and Mrs. Mildred B. Cate of Georgia; two
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two nieces
and nephews.
Her husband, Thomas Bomar Taylor, a sister, Mrs. Ruby
Wright and a brother, C.B. Smith, Jr. all preceded her
in death.
Robert Richard Hollowell, Sr.
1937-2004
LEXINGTON: Services for Robert Richard Hollowell,
Sr., 66, were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 12 at
Pafford Funeral Home. Burial was in Emmanuel Baptist
Church Cemetery in Huron.
Mr. Hollowell, a retired Navistar employee, died on
Wednesday, June 9 at his residence. He was a United
States Army veteran and a member of Lexington Christian
Church.
He was born July 19, 1937.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Constance Eslinger
Hollowell; a son Robert Richard “Bobby” Hollowell, Jr.,
of McKenzie; four daughters, Valerie Gillenwater of
Huron, Sherri Lynn Hollowell of Lexington, Susan Gail
McHorris and Donna Lee Edens, both of Huron; three
sisters, Elsie Gaither of Sterling, Illinois, Florence
Land of Silvis, Illinois and Dorothy Dorsey of Moline,
Illinois; two stepbrothers, Harlind and Harold Albertson
and 10 additional stepbrothers and stepsisters; 15
grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded
in death by one grandchild, Carmel Lee Edens.

Kenneth Wayne Stewart

HENRY: Private graveside services for Kenneth Wayne
Stewart, 51, will be Thursday, June 17 at Highland
Memorial Gardens n Jackson. Mr. Stewart, retired
employee of Illinois Central Gulf Railroad, died on
Monday, June 14 at his home.
He was born June 8, 1953 in Jackson to the late Doris
Marie Raines Stewart and William L. Stewart. He was a
Baptist in faith, a member of the Henry Volunteer Fire
Department and a member of Henry County Rescue Squad.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Barham Stewart; two
daughters, Traci C. Stewart of Henry and Jennifer L.
Stewart of McKenzie; one son, David W. Stewart of
Anchorage, Alaska and three grandchildren.
Ernest Earl Smith
1921-2004
HUNTINGDON: Ernest Earl Smith, 83, died on Monday
morning, June 14, at Baptist Hospital East in Memphis.
