Joe Willard Griffin
1937-2004
MCKENZIE: Joe Willard Griffin, 66, died Sunday,
February 29, at his home. Funeral services for Mr.
Griffin were held Tuesday, March 2, at 4:00 p.m. at
Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield with Brother Dennis
Beal officiating. Burial followed in Pilgrim Rest
Cemetery in McKenzie.
Mr. Griffin was an employee of WSW of Sharon. He was
born November 28, 1937. Mr. Griffin was preceded in
death by his father, O.B. Griffin.
Mr. Griffin is survived by his wife, Shirley Griffin of
McKenzie; a son, Rickey Griffin of McKenzie; a daughter,
Kathy (Griffin) Brennan of McKenzie; his mother, Lena
(Bynum) Griffin of McKenzie; a brother, L.J. Griffin of
Greenfield; and four grandchildren.
Crystal Rene Lewis
1984-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Crystal Rene Lewis, 19, will
be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 10 at Cedar Avenue
Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home with the Rev. Cortez
Merrill officiating. Burial will be in Leach Apostolic
Church Cemetery in Leach.
Miss Lewis died Sunday, March 7 at Henry County Medical
Center from injuries sustained in an automobile
accident.
She was born June 15, 1984 in McKenzie. She was a 2003
McKenzie High School graduate and a member of Eastwood
Baptist Church.
Survivors include her mother, Patricia Marise Smith of
McKenzie; her father, Danny Lewis of Orlando, Florida;
three sisters, Melissa Deaton of Greenfield, Carla King
Heater and Robyn Lewis, both of McKenzie and a brother,
Otis King of Huntingdon.
Mavis Marie Mason
1925-2004
KENNESAW, GEORGIA: Mrs. Mavis Marie Mason, 79, died
on Saturday, March 6. Funeral services were held on
Tuesday, March 9 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of
Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor Billy
Johnson officiating. Interment followed at Pine Ridge
Memorial Park.
Mrs. Mason was the daughter of Ollie and Jessie Newsome
and was born in Trezevant. She was an active member of
Freedom Christian Fellowship Church of God in Kennesaw.
Survivors include her husband, Manuel Mason of Kennesaw;
one son, Daniel R. Mason of Marietta, Georgia; and four
daughters, Donna K. Mason of Marietta, Georgia; Brenda
F. Jamison of Memphis; Linda C. Hoffman of Mount Dora,
Florida and Mavis Rhena Gray of Pottstown, Pennsylvania.
Charlie Jackson Davenport
1935-2004
WILSON, NORTH CAROLINA: Charlie Jackson Davenport,
son of Cornelius Davenport and Edna Clarence Davenport
was born November 1, 1935 in Portland. A memorial
service was conducted by Elder Norris at 3:00 p.m.,
Thursday, March 4 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah
Witnesses in Wilson, North Carolina.
He was the only living son of four children born to this
union. Charlie also had three half-brothers, Mac
Davenport, Bill Davenport and Lawrence Davenport.
On December 22, 1956, Charlie was joined in marriage to
Mary Frances Ownby and from this union three children
were born: Teresa Jayne Finn of Rocky Mount, Charlie
Jackson Davenport, Jr. of Raleigh and Stephanie Renee
Roberson of Elm City. There are 13 grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.

Elsie B. Swafford Fennell
1917-2004
HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Elsie B. Swafford Fennell, 87, died
Friday, March 5 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral
services were conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 7 in
the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Scott Carter
officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Hill
Cemetery in Henderson County.
Mrs. Fennell was born February 5, 1911 in Benton County
to the late Albert and Vera Mealer Beal. She was a
homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Gladys Matak of Dallas,
Georgia; two sons, Billy Swafford of Huntingdon and
Bennie Swafford of Georgia; one sister, Lessie Adell
"Sally" Moore of Shelbyville, Indiana; 14 grandchildren

Loyd Clifton Green
1921-2004
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Loyd Clifton Green, 82, died Friday,
March 5 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral
services were conducted on Sunday, March 7 at 1:00 p.m.
in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Russ
Wilkens officiating. Interment followed at Memorial Park
Cemetery in Memphis.
Mr. Green was born March 29, 1921 in Franklin to the
late Leslie and Ethel Rainey Green. He was a retired
truck driver for Nationwide Express and a World War II
veteran. He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter,
Doris Moore; three brothers, Robert Allen Green, Floyd
Milton Green and Dewey Edward Green and one sister, Mary
Lizzie Green.
Survivors include three sons, Larry W. Green of
Huntingdon; Robert L. Green of Selmer and Loyd Clifton
Green, Jr. of Pocahontas; a stepdaughter Martha Edwards
of California; three brothers, G.A. Green of Nashville,
Leslie Buford Green of California and J.W. Green; two
sisters, Mary Ellen Harper of Franklin and Ruby Reed;
six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Jennie V. "Mama Jennie" Johnson
1924-2004
HUNTINGDON: Services for Jennie V. "Mamma Jennie"
Johnson, 79, were held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 6
at Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church in Huntingdon.
Burial was in Humble Cemetery.
Mrs. Johnson died on Monday, March 1 at Baptist Memorial
Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile
accident.
Survivors include five sons, Danny Johnson, James L.
Johnson, Robert Johnson, Jimmy Johnson and W.C. Johnson,
Jr., all of Smyrna; a sister, Willie Sue Gordon of
Huntingdon and a brother, Arthur Hampton of Huntingdon.
She was the widow of Rev. W.C. Johnson.
Richard H. Karnes
1930-2004
LEACH: Mr. Richard Howard Karnes, 73, passed away
Tuesday, March 2 at his home. Funeral services were
conducted on Saturday, March 6 at 10:30 a.m. in the
Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Donnie Gately
officiating. Interment followed in the Twin Oaks
Community Cemetery.
Mr. Karnes was born October 27, 1930 in Gibson County to
the late Paul McKinnley and Gertie Thompson Karnes. He
retired from the United States Air Force as a Master
Sergeant and was a member of the Twin Oaks Church of
Christ. He was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene
Karnes and one sister, Dorothy Hood.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Evelyn Karnes;
two daughters, Ann Karnes of Leach and Vickie Eskew of
Orange Park, Florida; two sons, Richard Glenn Karnes of
Henderson and Jeffrey Dale Karnes of Leach; one brother,
Neal Karnes; and five grandchildren.
Elizabeth Gail Kelly
1956-2004
SPRINGFIELD: Mrs. Elizabeth Gail Kelly, 47, died
Monday, March 2 at the Northcrest Medical Center in
Springfield. Funeral services were conducted on
Wednesday, March 3 at 2:00 p.m. in the Dilday Funeral
Home Chapel with Brother Paul Merwin officiating.
Interment followed in McAuley Cemetery.
Mrs. Kelly was born November 26, 1956 in Carroll County.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Oak Grove
Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, William Lloyd Kelly, Jr.;
her parents, C.B. and Ina Bell Williams of Buena Vista;
two daughters, Kimberly Nicole Kelly and Emily Elizabeth
Kelly; one son, Evan Lloyd Kelly, all of Springfield;
and two brothers, Charlie Ben Williams and John Wayne

Ellsworth Lewelling
1929-2004
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Ellsworth Lewelling, 74, passed away
Wednesday, March 3 at his home. Funeral services were
conducted on Saturday, March 6 at the Chase Funeral Home
Chapel with Bro. Martin Klamm officiating. Interment
followed in the Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Lewelling was born October 25, 1929 in Madison
County to the late Ira Vinson and Virginia Elizabeth
Barnett. He was a farmer, a retired maintenance worker
for the Tennessee Department of Transportation and a
member of the Clarksburg Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Joyce Lewelling;
one son, Robert Reed and one brother, Ivy Eugene
Lewelling, all of Huntingdon and one grandson.
Richard M. McIntyre
1936-2004
BRUCETON: Mr. Richard Merrill McIntyre, 67, passed
away Wednesday, March 3 at the McKenzie Regional
Hospital. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday,
March 6 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel
with Father Edward Fisher officiating. Interment
followed in the Prospect Cemetery.
Mr. McIntyre was born October 6, 1936 in White County,
Illinois to the late George and Bonnie Hampton McIntire.
He retired from the air force on August 1, 1974, serving
as a master sergeant and was a member of the Catholic
Church. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Alma
Sawyer, Georgia Sawyer, Marjorie Jacobs, Erma Campbell
and one brother, J.R. McIntyre.
Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Harp of San Jose,
California; two stepdaughters, Brenda Luzzi of Paris and
Cindy Kozak of Hollow Rock; two son, Mark McIntyre of
Bruceton and Gregory McIntyre of Ceres, California; one
sister, Geneva Strum of Grayville, Illinois and seven
grandchildren.
Helen Clark Rutherford
1928-2004
HOLLOW ROCK: Mrs. Helen Clark Rutherford, 75, passed
away Sunday, February 29 at the Shore Memorial Hospital
in New Jersey. Funeral services were conducted on
Friday, March 5 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chase Funeral Home
Chapel with Bro. Steve Davis officiating. Interment
followed in the Twin Oak Community Cemetery.
Mrs. Rutherford was born December 26, 1928 in Carroll
County to the late Arthur Leonard and Georgia Mallard
Arnold. She was a member of the VFW in Hollow Rock and
attended Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl Brandt of Egg
Harbor Township, New Jersey; three sons, Alan Rutherford
of Hollow Rock, John Rutherford of Nashville and Leonard
Rutherford of Mobile, Alabama; three grandchildren and
one grandson.
Sarah Ann Blackburn
1925-2004
SPRINGVILLE: Services for Sarah Ann Blackburn, 78,
will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 11 at Russwood
Baptist Church with Bro. Kenneth Basham officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McKenzie.
Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris is in charge of the
arrangements.
Mrs. Blackburn died on Monday, March 8 at Plumley Rehab
Center in Paris.
She was born August 10, 1925 in McKenzie to the late Jon
and Sally Bobb Ezell Everett. She was a member of
Russwood Baptist Church and a member of the Daughters of
the American Revolution.
Survivors include her husband, Morris Blackburn; a
daughter, Millicent young of Memphis, her brother-in-law
Johnny Williams of Huntingdon and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Everett
