Rhonda Ledell Sims
1954-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Rhonda Ledell Sims, 49, will
be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 24 at Greater Enon
Baptist Church with the Rev. James Stewart officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Trinity Funeral
Home in Paris is in charge of the arrangements.
Miss Sims, an employee of Carroll County Developmental
Center for 25 years, died Thursday, March 18 at McKenzie
Regional Hospital.
She was born October 10, 1954 in McKenzie. She was a
member of Greater Enon Baptist Church, choir and Sunday
school
Survivors include her mother, Erma Erving Sims of
McKenzie and a brother, Rev. Julius Sims of St. Louis,
Missouri; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Julius W. Sims.
Ricky Lyn Bailey
1960-2004
HUNTINGDON: Mr. Ricky Lyn Bailey, 43, died on
Wednesday, March 17 at the Huntingdon Health and
Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were conducted
on Friday, March 19 at 1:00 p.m. in the Dilday Funeral
Home Chapel with Brother Tony Lipford officiating.
Interment followed at Mt. Comfort Cemetery.
Mr. Bailey was born June 10, 1960 in Carroll County to
the late Thurman and Ruth Ellen Boyd. He was a brick
layer and a Baptist. He was preceded in death by a
brother, L.C. Bailey.
Survivors include a daughter, Miranda Bailey of
Springville; six sisters, Mary Brotherton, Brooxie
Parish, Patsy Bailey, Carolyn Pillow, Debbie Burns, all
of Huntingdon and Brenda Todd of McKenzie; four
brothers, Bruce Bailey and Scotty Bailey, both of
Huntingdon, Donald Bailey of Paris and Joe Bailey of

Emily Arlene Brown

HOLLOW ROCK: Miss Emily Arlene Brown died Monday,
March 15 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital. Graveside
services were conducted on Thursday, March 18 at 11:00
a.m. at Marlboro Cemetery.
Miss Brown was born March 10 in McKenzie. She was
preceded in death by two brothers, Jacob Cuehlke and
Timothy Cuehlke.
Survivors include her parents, Danny and Kathy Brown;
four sisters, Kellie Cuehlke, Danyell Brasel, Dolly
Shafer and Harley Brown; three brothers, Anthony Cuehlke,
John Cuehlke and Logan Cuehlke; her paternal
grandparents, Melvina Breuklander and Vern White, both
of Camden and her maternal grandparents, Margaret and
Harold Cuehlke of Florida.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Marshall Tucker Mayo
Memorial services for Marshall Tucker Mayo will be at
2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 28 at the National Guard Armory
on Highway 22 North, located behind Republic Builders.
Mr. Mayo died February 15.
Hazel Christine Murphy
1920-2004
TERRY COMMUNITY: Mrs. Hazel Christine Murphy, 83,
passed away on Thursday, March 18 at the Jackson-Madison
County General Hospital. Funeral services were conducted
on Saturday, March 20 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral
Home Chapel with Bro. Lee Johnson officiating. Interment
followed in the Obion Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Murphy was born July 10, 1920 in Bogota to the late
Filmore and Mary Ladd Johnson. She was a member of the
Obion Chapel Church of Christ; a homemaker and was very
involved with the home demonstration club. She was also
preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Otis
Murphy, who passed away on April 15, 1999; five
brothers, Curtis Johnson, Joe Allen Johnson, Harold
“Buddy” Johnson, Rowland Johnson and Ernest Johnson and
one sister, Irene Chandler.
Survivors include two daughters, Dean Dill of Lavinia
and Donna Mann of Brownsville; one son, Bennie Murphy of
Cedar Grove; eight grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren.
Seth Harrell Perritt
1926-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Seth Harrell Perritt, 77,
were at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 20 at Brummitt
Funeral Home with Bro. Jake Hawkins officiating. Burial
was in Chapel Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Perritt, retired lineman for Carroll County Electric
Department, died on Thursday, March 18 at his residence.
He was born December 19, 1926 in Carroll County to the
late Bonnie Edwards Perritt and Walter Perritt.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Scott Perritt; a
daughter, Sandra Jean Flores of McKenzie; a sister,
Brooxie Pinson of Huntingdon; six grandchildren, Jim
Hawkins, Jake Hawkins, Justin Hawkins, Jeffrey Hawkins,
Curt Perritt, and Becky Johnson and six
great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two sons, Jimmy Perritt
and Stanley Ray Perritt; three brothers, Manuel Perritt,
Max Perritt and Walter Perritt and a sister, Ruth
Abernathy.
Maxie L. Presson
1916-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Maxie L. Presson, 87, were at
2:30 p.m., Sunday, March 21 at Brummitt Funeral Home
with Bro. Clayton Owen officiating. Burial was in Shiloh
Cemetery in McKenzie.
Mrs. Presson, retired LPN, died Saturday, March 20 at
Oak Manor Health Care Center in McKenzie.
She was born August 18, 1916 in Henry to the late Viola
Sneed Akers Presson and Lee A. Presson.
Survivors include a son, Robert Presson of Nashville;
two daughters, Betty Sexton of White House and Judy
Smith of Kingston Springs; a special daughter, Nevelin
Akers of Nashville; five grandchildren, Tricia Presson,
Angela Sexton-Dickerson, Samantha Milender, Brian Smith
and Michael Smith; four great-grandchildren, Austin
Smith, Conner Dickerson, Logan Milender and Kelsey
Dickerson.
She was also preceded in death by her husband Robert C.
Presson and two sons, Kenneth Wayne Presson and Lavon
Presson.
Donna Wilson
1947-2004
PARIS: Former Emerson Electric employee and Henry
County beautician Donna Kay Owen Burnett Wilson, 56,
died Wednesday, March 17 at Camden General Hospital
after suffering a stroke.
Graveside services were held Friday, March 19 at Olive
Branch Cemetery near Cottage Grove with Thomas
Winchester of Union Friendship Baptist Church
officiating.
Born in Henry County on December 9, 1947, she was the
daughter of the late Ernest and Colene Kennedy Owen. She
was a graduate of Grove High School
Survivors include one son, Stacey Burnett of Gleason;
one brother, Ronnie Owen of Hardin, Kentucky and two
grandchildren.
Dr. Joe Dudley Bell
1920-2004
Dr. Joe Dudley Bell, 83, formerly of Gleason and Memphis
passed away on Saturday, March 20 at Jackson-Madison
County General Hospital.
A private burial service was held on Tuesday, March 23
at Hopewell Home in Gleason with retired Rev. Benny
Hopper officiating.
Dr. Bell was born October 30, 1920 in Gleason to the
late Thomas Earl Bell and Ruth McGee Bell. He was a
member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Memphis
and was a retired professor emeritus from the University
of Tennessee College of Dentistry. He was a United
States army veteran and a decorated pilot during World
War II. He was a POW at Stalag Luft III in Germany for
three years and an original participant in what has
become known as “The Great Escape.”
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Emma Louise “CC”
Jeter Bell; a son, Dr. Peter A. Bell of Memphis; a
daughter, Betty Bell McWherter of Jackson; six
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, any
memorials be made to the donor’s choice.
Gallimore Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.
Thomas “Buck” Gateley
1949-2004
HUMBOLDT: Services for Thomas “Buck” Gateley, 54,
will be on Wednesday, March 24 at Shelton-Hunt Funeral
Home. Burial will be in the Liberty All Cemetery in
Huntingdon.
Mr. Gateley, an employee of the Humboldt Police
Department, died on Sunday, March 21 at his residence.
He was born in Lexington to the late Irene Swafford
Gateley and Hershel Gateley.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy Brandon Gateley; two
sons, Charles Moon of Humboldt and Billy Gateley of
Bradford; two sisters, Betty Hormell of Cedar Grove and
Margie Schmidt of Tennessee Ridge and one grandchild.
Joyce Ann Clark
1943-2004
ATWOOD: Joyce Ann Clark, 60, died at 10:30 a.m. on
Saturday, March 20 at Jackson-Madison County General
Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted on
Thursday, March 25 at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist
Church with Rev. John Wade Bryant officiating. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Clark was born on April 28, 1943 in Atwood to the
late Russell Gilliam and Pearline Elam Gilliam. She was
a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband Billy Clark; one daughter,
Lisa Clark and one son, Jeff Clark, both of Atwood; one
brother, Kenneth Smith of Humboldt and three
grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Mt. Olive
Baptist Church in Atwood on Wednesday, March 24.
