Edith Winston Atkins Allen
1910-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Edith Winston Atkins Allen,
94, were held on Sunday, November 21 at 2:00 p.m. in the
McKenzie Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dossie Wheatley
and Craig Christina officiating. Burial followed in the
Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Allen, a homemaker, died on Thursday morning,
November 18 at Maplewood Health Care in Jackson. She was
born November 9, 1910 to the late Dr. William Horace and
Gracie Ann Cook Winston and lived her entire life in
Carroll County. She was a member of the McKenzie Church
of Christ. She was an avid gardener.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Jerry Atkins and wife Paula
of Huntingdon; a daughter, Mrs. James Millrany of
Jackson; five grandchildren, James E. Millrany and wife
Martha of Collierville, Kevin Atkins and wife Marty,
Keith Atkins and wife Debbie, Kyle Atkins and wife
Elizabeth, all of Jackson and Kerry Atkins and wife Mary
of Knoxville and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Allen;
three brothers, Erbie Winston and Carl Winston of
McKenzie and Edward Ray Winston.
Without the care of neighbors Margie Trent, Charlie and
Annie Lawrence and Katie and Jim Mercer, Mrs. Allen
would have been unable to remain in the home she loved
so dearly until four and one half months before her 94th
birthday. Their loving care was most appreciated as well
as Jamie, Becky and Hannah Boyd who watched out for her.
Paul Allen
1921-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Paul Allen, 83, were at 1:00
p.m., Friday, November 19 at Brummitt Funeral Home with
Bro. Dennis Trull officiating. Burial was in Trezevant
Cemetery.
Mr. Allen, a retired cabinet maker, died on Wednesday,
November 17 at McKenzie Health Care Center.
He was born May 22, 1921 in Trezevant to the late
Josephine Irving Allen and Homer Allen. He was a member
of the First Baptist Church in McKenzie.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Sue Allen; two sons,
Thomas Earl Allen of Shelbyville, Indiana and Mikel
Allen of Dyersburg; a daughter, Rennie Pyles of
McKenzie; five brothers; five sisters; seven
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Charles Hughes Fry
1916-2004
LAVINIA: Services for Charles Hughes Fry, 88, were
held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 18 at Bodkin
Funeral Home with burial in Lavinia Cemetery.
Mr. Fry, a retired fire and guard captain for Milan
Arsenal, died on Monday, November 15 at Jackson-Madison
County General Hospital. He was a World War II, United
States Army veteran and a member of the Lavinia Baptist
Church where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his daughter, Charlotte Cole of Milan;
two sons, William Fry of Jackson and Allen Fry of
Atwood; one sister, Louise Parrish of East Alton,
Illinois; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Fry was preceded in death by his wife, Uldean Fry.
William Neal Cooper
1921-2004
HIGHLAND, INDIANA: Services for William Neal Cooper,
83, were held on Friday, November 12 at 10:00 a.m. at
the First Church of the Nazarene in Highland, Indiana
with Rev. Robert Hasselbring officiating. Burial
followed at Elmwood Cemetery.
He died on Monday, November 8.
Mr. Cooper attended the First Church of the Nazarene of
Highland. He was the owner/operator of Bill’s Movers in
Highland from 1958-1974. He was a veteran of the United
States Army and served in World War II where he received
three Bronze Stars.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Eudene Pendley
Cooper; two children, Gwen (Bob) Campbell of Highland
and Charlie (Kim) Cooper of Chicago, Illinois; six
grandchildren, Eva (Jeremy) Weber of Greenwood,
Missouri, Ryan (fiancé Nicole) Campbell of Schererville,
Melissa Campbell and Tom Campbell, both of Highland,
Andy Cooper of Chicago and Josh Cooper of Goshen,
Indiana; three great-grandchildren, Chloe Vargas of
Chicago, Colin Campbell of Highland and Cooper Neal
Weber of Greenwood, Missouri; four brothers, Warren
Cooper, Johnny Cooper, Charlie (Jan) Cooper and Wayne
(Bobbi) Cooper, all of McKenzie and several nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Cooper
and Wade Austin Cooper; and his parents Utah and Louise
Cooper.
Billy Durwood Fulcher, Jr.
1952-2004
GREENFIELD: Services for Billy Durwood Fulcher, Jr.,
52, were conducted on Monday, November 22 at 4:30 p.m.
at the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Greenfield.
Mr. Fulcher died Thursday, November 18 at the NHC
Healthcare in Milan.
He was born May 7, 1952 in Louisiana to the late Billy
and Dorothy Miller Fulcher. He was a self-employed
carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy Harrison Fulcher; two
sisters, Ann Marie Wright and Billye Diane Fulcher; six
children, Andrew, Billie Joe, J.R., Billy III, Jeannie
and Laura; and a granddaughter.

Barbara A. Savage Hollis
1951-2004
CAMDEN: Services for Barbara A. Savage Hollis, 52,
were at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 16 at Brummitt
Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Welty officiating.
Burial was in Liberty Cemetery in McKenzie.
Mrs. Hollis, disabled, died Sunday, November 14 at Henry
County Medical Center Home Health and Hospice.
She was born December 9, 1951 in Linden. She was a
member of Holladay Church of Christ.
Survivors include nine brothers, Paul Savage, Joe Savage
and Harry Savage, all of McKenzie; Freddie Savage and
Wendell Savage, both of Henry; Steven Savage of Coco,
Florida, Mike Savage of Paris, Jeff Savage of Chicago,
Illinois and Larry Savage of Paducah, Kentucky; a
sister, Vera Shipp of McKenzie and several nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thelbert Paul
Savage, Sr. and her mother, Mary Elizabeth Molloy
Savage.
Lillie Pearl Page Gooch
1918-2004
MCKENZIE: Graveside services for Lillie Pearl Page
Gooch, 85, were at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 19 at
Everett’s Chapel Cemetery with Bro. Don Bolin
officiating.
Mrs. Gooch, retired from the Milan Arsenal in Milan,
died on Monday, November 15 at Select Specialty Hospital
in Nashville.
She was born December 19, 1918 in Gleason to the late
Sula Campbell Page and Leonard Page. She was a member of
Union Grove Baptist Church in McKenzie.
Survivors include two sons, Arthur Evans (Diana) Gooch
of Mesa Arizona and James Allen (Beverly) Gooch of
Smyrna; three grandchildren Jamie (Arby) Cordell of
Cottondale, Alabama, Lacey and Rebecca Gooch of Smyrna;
two great-granddaughters, Peyton and Kylie Cordell of
Cottondale, Alabama; one step-grandson, Ryan Carkhuff of
Mesa, Arizona; a step-granddaughter, Christina Eastis of
Birmingham, Alabama; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Arthur
Gooch; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Gooch; a brother,
Kelly Page and a sister, Wynoma Cunningham.
Thomas Dwayne “Buddy” Howe
1941-2004
BRUCETON: Services for Thomas Dwayne “Buddy” Howe,
63, were conducted on Friday, November 19 at 1:00 p.m.
in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Joe Abbott
and Bro. Rufus Chandler officiating.
Mr. Howe died on Wednesday, November 17 at the State
Veteran’s Home in Humboldt.
He was born April 2, 1941 in Carroll County to the late
William Commie and Era Florence Greer Howe. He was the
owner of Howe and Jordan Refrigeration, was a Viet Nam
veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of
the Carroll County Sam’s Camping Club. He was preceded
in death by two brothers, Wilburn Edwards and Lawrence
Edwards.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Smith Howe; one
daughter, Angela Cantrell of Bartlett; one son, Joe
Jordan of Clarksburg; one sister, Peggy Higdon of Hollow
Rock; two brothers, William Howard Howe and Aaron
Edwards, both of Bruceton; three grandchildren and two
great-granddaughters.
Harold Edgar Jackson
1926-2004
GLEASON: Services for Harold Edgar Jackson, 78, were
at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 22 at Gallimore Funeral
Home Chapel with Dr. Dale Mathis officiating. Burial was
in Sunset Cemetery in Dresden.
Mr. Jackson, retired partner of Akin-Jackson Motor
Company and a retired farmer, died on Friday, November
19 at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin.
He was born April 18, 1926 in Gleason to the late Joes
William and Beatrice Bragg Jackson. He was a member of
Olivet Methodist Church where he served as treasurer. He
was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Lucille Brooks
Jackson; two nephews Jimmy Jackson and Bill Jackson,
both of Martin.
Lorene Dodd McDade
1914-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Lorene Dodd McDade, 90,
formerly of the Big Buck Community were held on Friday,
November 19 at 10:00 a.m. in the Cedar Avenue Chapel of
McKenzie Funeral Home with the Revs. Harrell Nation and
James Ketzel officiating. Burial followed in the Union
Academy Cemetery. Mrs. McDade, retired from Henry I.
Siegel, died Sunday night, November 14 at McKenzie
Health Care Center.
She was born October 2, 1914 to the late Reuben and Mary
Noles. She married Milton McDade and they had 55 years
together before he died of cancer.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Willie McGehee, Sr.
1925-2004
SPRINGVILLE: Services for Willie McGehee, Sr., 79,
were held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 18 at Western
Oak Grove Baptist Church in Buchanan with the Rev. James
C. Webb, Jr. officiating. Burial followed in the Western
Oak Grove Church Cemetery.
Mr. McGehee died on Saturday, November 13 at Henry
County Health Care Center in Paris. He was a veteran of
World War II and was employed by Midland Brake Co. for
several years.
He was born August 14, 1925 in Springville to the late
Dave McGehee and Verna Payne McGehee.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Shirley McGehee;
daughters, Carol Corbin of Springville Veronica Menzies
of Murray, Kentucky, Cynthia K. Edwards and Linda Rhea
Gardner, both of Nashville and Brenda Sue McGehee of
Springville; sons, Willie B. McGehee, Jr. and John David
McGehee, both of Springville, and Mark Stephen McGehee
of Bolivar; seven grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren.
William Glynn Blaylock
1928-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for William Glynn Blaylock, 76,
were at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 18 at Williams
Funeral Home in Greenfield with Rev. Keith Pence
officiating. Interment followed in Meridian Cemetery in
Greenfield.
Mr. Blaylock, a machinist, died Monday, November 15 at
his residence.
He was born May 26, 1928 in Greenfield to the late
Jennings Blaylock and Ruby Walker.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Blaylock; a
daughter-in-law Janet Belew of Bradford, a sister, Betty
Reagan of Woodland Mills and a brother, Elma Lee
Blaylock of Nashville.
Cleo Jordan Medlin
1916-2004
BRUCETON: Services for Cleo Jordan Medlin, 88, were
at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 19 at Bruceton Funeral
Home Chapel with the Rev. Craig Jordan officiating.
Interment followed in the Benton County Memorial Gardens
near Camden.
Mrs. Medlin, retired inspector for H.I.S. Co., Inc.,
died on Wednesday, November 17 at the Life Care Center
in Bruceton.
She was born May 14, 1916 in Benton County to the late
Willie Western Jordan and Elvie Melton Jordan. She was a
member of Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Wansie Benson of Hollow
Rock; two sons, Norman Medlin of Eads and Jerry Medlin
of Iuka, Mississippi; and a brother, Raymond Jordan of
Bruceton; four grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon G.
Medlin and a granddaughter, Cary Ann Medlin.
Jeanne Marie Shankle
1922-2004
MESA, ARIZONA: Graveside services for Jeanne Marie
Shankle, 82, were held on Thursday, November 18 at
Hopewell Cemetery with the Rev. John K. Adams
officiating.
Mrs. Shankle, widow of Thomas L. Shankle, died Saturday,
November 13 at Chula Vista Care Center in Mesa.
She was born March 24, 1922 in Halls to the late Brown
and Donie White Davis. She owned Marie’s Café on Lee
Street in McKenzie in the mid-1960’s and early 1970’s.
She was employed for a time in the 1950’s and 1960’s at
Wilker Brothers Pajama Factory in McKenzie. In the late
1940’s she and her husband owned and operated the movie
theatre in downtown Gleason. She later worked at
Hillview Nursing Home in Dresden.
Survivors include a sister, Frances Crawford of Mesa,
Arizona.
Faye Nored
1945-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Ms. Faye Wheat Nored, 59,
were Saturday, November 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Cedar
Avenue Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home with Brothers
Kenny Carr and Vance Rushing officiating. Burial
followed in the Caledonia Cemetery in McKenzie.
Ms. Nored, a dispatcher with the City of McKenzie Police
Department, died Tuesday, November 16 at her mother’s
residence in McKenzie.
She was born September 27, 1945 in McKenzie to Mrs.
Ethel Modene McLeod Wheat of McKenzie and the late B.J.
Wheat. She was a member of Caledonia Baptist Church and
of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Survivors include two daughters, Tammy D. Price and Lisa
F. Goode and one son, Timothy D. Nored, all of McKenzie;
two sisters, Mary B. Burnine of Gleason and Janie Filtz
of Dresden; three brothers, Barry Wheat, Larry Wheat and
Sam Wheat, all of McKenzie and five grandchildren.
Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society in
Faye’s memory.
Dorian Smothers
1943-2004
MEMPHIS: Services for Dorian Smothers, 61, were
conducted on Monday, November 22 at 1:30 p.m. at the
Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis and on Tuesday,
November 23 at 2:00 p.m. at the Davis Chapel United
Methodist Church with Brother Joe Jerigan and Brother
Wayne Holmes officiating. Interment followed in the
church cemetery.
Mr. Smothers, formerly of Carroll County, died Friday,
November 19 at the VA Hospital in Memphis.
He was born March 6, 1943, in Carroll County to the late
John McGarbin and Lolar Miller Smothers. He was a
self-employed van conversion and a member of the
Bellevue Baptist Church. He was a veteran of Viet Nam
and past president of the organization for the Advocacy
of the Disabled.
Survivors include a special friend, Kay Sweeney of
Memphis; one sister, Clarice Leitgen of Katy, Texas; an
aunt, Luna Williams of Huntingdon and several nieces and
nephews.

Robert Lee Sparks

PARIS: Services for Robert Lee Sparks, 88, were
conducted on Saturday, November 20 at 1:00 p.m. at
Trinity Funeral Home with Elder Leon White officiating.
Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Sparks, retired employee of Holley Carburetor, died
on Tuesday, November 16 at Henry County Health Care in
Paris after an extended illness.
He was born August 6, 1916 in McKenzie to the late
Butler Sparks and Maude Sparks. He was preceded in death
by a brother, Clarence Sparks, Sr., a niece, four
nephews and a great-nephew.
Survivors include nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a
Methodist by faith.
Mary Beth Wilcoxson
1941-2004
MCKENZIE: Services for Mary Beth Wilcoxson, 63, were
Thursday, November 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cedar Avenue
Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home with Bro. John Forgy
officiating. Burial was in the Lawrence County Memorial
Gardens in Lawrenceburg on Friday, November 19.
Mrs. Wilcoxson, librarian for McKenzie Elementary
School, died Tuesday afternoon, November 16 at her
daughter’s residence in Jackson. She was a native of
Herdford, Texas and was born on October 28, 1941 to the
late Alonzo Benjaman Messenger and Leta J. Ellerd. She
was a member of the Church of Christ, the Carroll County
Humane Society, Odyssey of the Mind and designed the MES
Library concept. She received her Masters Degree in Arts
in Education with a 4.0 in the spring of 2004.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Hale Wilcoxson; two
daughters, Katy Elizabeth Cloutier and husband, Joseph
and Annette Jeanene Galloway and husband Jere, all of
Jackson; two sisters, Jerri Hallum and husband Thomas of
Canadian, Texas and Inez Elrod and husband Dexter of
Rotan, Texas; one brother, Lonnie Messenger and wife
Brenda of Breckienridge, Texas; five grandchildren,
Cameron Galloway, Donovan Galloway, Jared Cloutier,
Julianna Cloutier and A.J. Cloutier, all of Jackson. She
was preceded in death by one brother and sister, Donald
Messenger and Joann Messenger.
